Has anyone previously used a gro egg 2? My friend has recommended this as a room thermometer/night light but the reviews online are a bit mixed? Just wondering if it’s worth it?

Since2016 · 20/01/2019 21:02

We have two gro eggs. One in DD’s room and one in ours. I think they’re helpful as a guide but easy to obsess over - DH and I clash about temperatures constantly! I think some sort of a room thermometer is helpful for littles as a guide tho.

DeliberatelyGinger · 20/01/2019 21:19

I don't fit in the bath! There's no room for my arms. It was a lovely sparkly blue colour though as I used is bath bomb from lush.

AliceRR · 20/01/2019 21:19

We have the gro egg, don’t think it’s the most modern version, but I find the light annoying. Might feel differently when I have a baby in the room but at the moment I find myself unplugging it as I like darkness

AliceRR · 20/01/2019 21:19

Temp wise I’m sure it does the job!

bubblybrit · 20/01/2019 21:27

Thanks @Since2016 & @AliceRR. Might order one to try it out. Amazon are doing a deal at the moment where you get a free Tommee Tipee nappy bin if you spend over a certain amount (can’t remember how much but don’t think it’s a lot!)

AliceRR · 20/01/2019 21:38

Random question but I’ve bought and washed mattress covers for Moses basket and bedside crib upstairs. Should I have waterproof covers for mattress too?? I’ve seen them when shopping but hadn’t occurred to me I might need them!

My friend is pregnant and due in March and he Mum’s advice is to put plain terry cloths on top of the sheets so that if baby is sick then you don’t need to change the whole sheet eg in the middle of the night

Yakadee · 20/01/2019 21:42

@AliceRR - we never did. My son wasn't very sicky but we did do the muslin thing from time to time and worked just fine x

Notquiteagandt · 20/01/2019 21:56

@AliceRR I have and for the pram too. I have gotten natural mattress on my moses basket so if it gets wet its game over. I have the little green sheep ones thlugh so soft breathable cotton and not rustley and hot.

I have the little paper thermometer you get inside the grobags stuck up sparodically around the place.

But I just have the gro egg one. I actually prefared the look of it to the two and didnt see the justification in the new design being twice the price.

Camsie30 · 20/01/2019 22:15

My baby monitor had the temp on it which is good once you start leaving them to sleep. I'm never sure about night lights as I worry that they create bad sleeping habits...

hayley013 · 20/01/2019 22:27

I've got a thermometer that came with the grosnug up in baby's room but I didn't bother with dd so don't really think about it, just have one for the bath

lanalawr · 21/01/2019 00:12

@AliceRR I've got a waterproof sheet for the crib. We only needed them a few times for dd when she was little and her nappy leaked. I did tuck a muslin around the mattress by her head in case she was sick and had a big muslin as a sheet on the pram mattress for the same reason. They were changed quite often even though she wasn't a particularly sicky baby.

We just used a bath/room thermometer last time and will do the same again. The temp is also on my baby monitor though. The light wouldn't bother me because we leave the landing light on for dd especially now that she's in a bed and wanders through to us occasionally.

lanalawr · 21/01/2019 00:13

Lidl have their baby event on at the moment and the tommee tippee bath/room thermometer is roughly half price (maybe slightly less).

twiglet · 21/01/2019 01:39

Sad pregnancy insomnia is back with avengence. Its my last week of work so can't call in sick in 6 hrs time as its pregnancy related so they would start my mat leave automatically! (plus I have a load of work to finish up!)

babyp160 · 21/01/2019 06:59

I've managed to avoid illness until now but I know you guys haven't.

Finished work now so I can rest but I have a awful cold but the worst part is my throat is burning.

What can I take for my throat?

Thanks girls

Eyedontknow · 21/01/2019 07:23

@twiglet insomnia/inability to sleep here, too. However, last night I was getting Braxton Hicks quite regularly after midnight until around 2, then they subsided and I was able to fall asleep for maybe an hour until they woke me up again. Hoping it could be the start of something though?! Thankfully already on leave, so not in your position. Hope it's not too terrible of a day for you!

Congrats @wames90 !

@babyp160 paracetamol and lots of tea with honey. I've also found gargling warm salt water helps with soreness.

lanalawr · 21/01/2019 08:24

@babyp160 I was told that the halls soothers were ok to use last pregnancy. I don't remember them being particularly effective but it did help a tiny bit. Otherwise honey and lemon in hot water can help.

AliceRR · 21/01/2019 09:23

I’m feeling a bit down today. Probably just tired and then was arguing with DH in the car (think we were both tired) although it didn’t progress beyond him finding my bad mood cute and funny (he didn’t recognise his own bad mood obviously)

I only have four days at work including today so need to just suck it up!!

On another note, my cheeky wipes have just arrived (I get stuff delivered to work) and they are much smaller than I thought they would be!

AliceRR · 21/01/2019 09:26

will look into how much waterproof sheets are 🤔

I feel like I keep thinking I’ve got everything I need and then I realise I need something else!

I still need nighties or something for the hospital - any recommendations for something cheap that will do the job?

And a friend suggested on pack of maternity pads is probably not enough and suggested I get some disposable underwear too

Then need to finally pack the hospital bag...

babyp160 · 21/01/2019 09:31

Thanks all.

@AliceRR we got some waterproof sheets from John Lewis which were in the sale.

Nightie wise I got a pack of 2 nursing ones from mothercare which are dark colours and reasonable.

I've packed 2 packets of maternity towels.

mary99220 · 21/01/2019 09:44

@babyp160 I was ill whole last week and it seems to be getting better now but I did the same as the others said, paracetamol, hot water with lemon and honey to drink, gargling some salty water and try to rest as much as you can!
@powkin your picture made me laugh so much!! Nothing like that happened to me just yet but I wouldn't be surprised Grin
I went to the hospital on Friday night as I was worried about her movements, she was very calm and I could barely feel her, normally in the evening her exercises would start and her punches would be very painful. It turned out that she was fine, just having a quiet day but this was the first time it happened and I just wanted to be reassured!Smile
I had a little baby shower on Saturday,my friends from work organised it and it was so nice,I loves the gifts and their company Smile and now I'm back to the waiting game!!

AliceRR · 21/01/2019 10:04

Thanks @babyp160

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 21/01/2019 10:07

I've never had a room thermometer for DD. It's common sense and you know when it's hot and cold and can get a general idea. Also, as a PP said, when you can see it, you can become slightly obsessive over it.

I know a lot of people like the Gro Egg for the light. As an alternative, the Gro light is really good and we have one of those.

mummymummymummummum · 21/01/2019 10:31

@AliceRR I've used Cheeky Wipes for 2.5 years. They are smaller than disposable wipes, but you'll rarely need to use more than one per nappy change. I watched a cousin use 6 disposable wipes for a wee nappy a few weeks ago! Cheeky Wipes are also great for cleaning face and hands once you start weaning Smile (I volunteer for a cloth nappy library, don't work for Cheeky Wipes!)
