@AliceRR the mirror is not my friend! My thighs are getting all chubby like a newborns!

I’m due to finish on the 24th - everyone says how it’s so nice I have all this time off before the baby but I can’t see that I’m going to be galavanting about town!

welshweasel · 14/01/2019 12:03

@since2016 I’d recommend getting a pack of vests and sleepsuits in tiny baby as well. You can always take them back and exchange them. DS was 5lb 9oz and he was in early baby, then tiny baby and didn’t get into newborn clothes for a good few weeks.

I had my final growth scan today. 6lb 13oz with a week to go so hoping for a 7 pounder. It’s all starting to get a bit real now. Pre op on Wednesday and steroids Friday/Saturday!

Eyedontknow · 14/01/2019 12:16

@Powkin yes to the microwees. I have it where I go to the toilet, stand up and immediately have to go again. And sometimes walk into the next room and need to go more again. It's neverending.

Eyedontknow · 14/01/2019 12:20

@AliceRR I thought I was free of stretch marks until my husband said oh look you've got lines under your stomach! They'd just been hiding under the bump unfortunately. However they've since spread to the top so I can see them now, too. Sad

Yakadee · 14/01/2019 12:27

Yes to microwaves, yes to new stretch marks and feeling very uncomfortable! 😩

AliceRR · 14/01/2019 12:47

@powkin @eyedontknow I finish on 25th but have today off and next Wednesday so only 8 days. I am training the newbie at work thought and finding it really stressful so feel like using the 8 days I’ve got left and going sooner!

I probably have stretch marks under bump. I can’t even imagine how I’ll look when this ginormous bump deflates

I have the microwees too. I don’t pee loads but at certain times I get an uncomfortable feeling like I need to go when I know I don’t as I’ve just been!

detachablehoof · 14/01/2019 13:00

I'm 37 weeks today... and still not packed my bag!! I'm not worried tho as I'm pretty sure I'll go overdue (babies in my family are always late, without exception)

Still, I'd like to get a bit more organised - still got so much to buy!

Am also feeling really uncomfortable - it hurts to walk in heels and turning over in bed is so painful. I can hear my pelvis click when I do it 🤢 got a sore back and shoulders - like PP whichever side I lie on is sore 😣 and I can only walk at the speed of a slug 😂 I'm assuming these are just last month niggles though and not a sign of anything about to happen! I saw the midwife on Friday and she said baby is 1/5 engaged. I have definitely noticed a reduction in heartburn so it must have started to move downwards. Don't think my bump is visibly lower tho

detachablehoof · 14/01/2019 13:02

Oh and I seem to have got lucky with stretch marks, I got some on my bust at about 25 wks but they have actually faded a bit already and I don't have any on my tummy! I'm hoping that means I won't get any!

Just got a new full length mirror in our dressing room and wish we hadn't 😂 the sight of my body makes me want to weep - feel SO fat and ugly.

AliceRR · 14/01/2019 13:04

@detachablehoof I’m the same re walking like a snail but haven’t even considered heels for months so you must be doing well 😂😬

detachablehoof · 14/01/2019 13:31

@AliceRR haha I only wear them if I know I won't be on my feet much - but it's becoming too difficult to even walk from the car to the house in heels so I think I'll have to stop 🤣 now I need to find somewhere to buy decent (slip on!) flats! I love Boden and Kurt Geiger but budget is a bit tight this month.

mummymummymummummum · 14/01/2019 13:54

I'd love to walk like a snail; it sounds much more graceful than waddling like an overweight duck!

babyp160 · 14/01/2019 14:32

@Since2016 I'm 34+4 and baby just measured at 6lb 4 at a scan.... currently sh*tting it about labour and have a little envy 🙈😂

Surprisedmom · 14/01/2019 15:08

Is anyone actually feeling more positive about their body now they’re pregnant?
I mean I feel like a beached whale and like I need those loud reversing noises that trucks have when i’m trying to roll over in bed. But, when I look in the mirror I rather like my bump and think in some ways I will miss my pregnancy body as it looks pretty good to me. I know my body probably won’t look so great afterwards when my tummy deflates and is all flabby though, so guess i’d best enjoy it while I can 😆

Celebelly · 14/01/2019 15:09

If anyone has Amazon Prime, there’s a documentary on there called Baby Care 101 - the Ultimate Baby Manual. It’s about an hour and a half long and shows loads of stuff about caring for a newborn - it’s American but most stuff is pretty relevant. It goes through soothing methods, breastfeeding, how to bathe them, etc. Might be good for watching with husbands and partners!

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 14/01/2019 15:25

For those who are having their first baby.. that first look at your body after labour is a shock, not going to lie! My belly looked like an old deflated balloon.. however, it gets better! I was gutted in the immediate aftermath, it’s gets a lot better!!

With growth scans, mines estimated to be 9.5lb at term, but I’ve still packed some first baby size vests (and newborn, and 0-3), all washed. I’ll just donate them to the ward if I don’t need them. I’m assuming they get early labours without bags packed fairly frequently?

Since2016 · 14/01/2019 15:27

Thanks @welshweasel my mum is sorting some newborn babygros - hoping they’ll be small enough? It’s really thrown me!

@babyp160 don’t worry! You’ll be absolutely fine, I’m hoping this one has a growth spurt!

fiona5 · 14/01/2019 15:29

I am so ready to have my baby now. Currently 36+4 and so uncomfortable.

Feet in my ribs, something scraping my hips and a constant big bottom moving around!

I can't eat, I can't sleep, I will miss being pregnant as it's so beautiful but I'm very much ready.

Fredthespider · 14/01/2019 15:37

Loving the term microwees! So accurate!

mary99220 · 14/01/2019 15:49

Hi mums, I hope you are all fine and excited to meet your babies! Time just flies, I can't believe that we are all soon not going to be pregnant!Smile
I'm a first time mum to be and I'm a little worried today, last night I couldn't sleep at all, had very intense period pains and backache. I'm due on the 8th of February but I was just wondering if this is the sign that I'm going to give birth sooner? I haven't lost my mucus plug just yet and I'm seeing my midwife on Thursday so I'm not sure how low down the baby is. Also crotch lightning are just getting worse and worse Confused Do you think I should be prepared to meet the baby this week?SmileSmile or are these just normal symptoms?

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 14/01/2019 16:46

Period pains was how my first two labours started. Back aches etc. meant nothing to me... period cramps were a definite sign though.

Have a warm bath and see if they ease off at all, if not.. keep timing them. They’ll get gradually stronger if it’s real, not necessarily fast though... my first labour was 58 hours from the first pain.
I’d call your midwife just to get advice, it’s been several years since I’ve done all this!

AliceRR · 14/01/2019 19:44

@Notasgreenascabbagelooming oh gosh the idea of my stomach looking like a deflated balloon is not a nice one! I can’t actually imagine how my stomach would look. I have no idea... if I’d still have a bump, I’d have a smaller bump, will I have loose skin?? Perhaps best not to think about it 😂

Yakadee · 14/01/2019 20:41

I second that the skin / stomach gets better although, I did have a little bit of saggy / loose skin but really not that bad. Plus, I was overweight to start with and put loads on in that pregnancy so not just baby.

Maybe a daft question, but if you get loads of lightening crotch, does that mean baby is head down or not necessarily? Xx

bubblybrit · 14/01/2019 22:18

Just wondering if anyone else is struggling to breathe at the moment? I’m 35+2 and feel as if my lungs are getting squashed! Makes sleeping almost impossible as I get a bit panicked.

twiglet · 14/01/2019 22:24

@bubblybrit yes but I have a long baby and his feet are under my rib cage. I've found stretching out like a pencil with arms above my head whilst lying down helps relieve it slightly

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 14/01/2019 23:05

@AliceRR

It’s not nice at all! But in my naivety I’d not really considered that I’d still look fairly pregnant with a wrinkly belly straight after, I honestly don’t know what I’d expected... but I was truly gutted!! It really is short lived though.

Just prewarning in case anyone hasn’t really thought about it and gets as upset as I did 😂 It’s all fixable if it’s important to you though 👌🏼
