I'm in the NW, North Manchester if anyone else is nearby?

Jammyx · 31/12/2018 21:34

Thanks @FuzzyPixel not too long until the 12 week scan, hope everything goes really smoothly for you and you're able to relax and enjoy your pregnancy thereafter x

I'm also in London. I have a few close friends but they don't have children/aren't expecting. Fortunate to have lots of family all over London though

Love seeing all your little bumps coming along. I'm noticing something resembling a slight bump but I'm convinced it's the result of over indulgence rather than baby Grin

Starygazer are there loads of NCT things around? I'm East London and am really wondering whether it's worth me joining. I'm a bit awkward and don't make friends that easily but I wonder if I should try.

Happy new year, we'll all be having our babies this year! 😍

I'll be your friend wombarton, we can be backward together! 😉 If you go on the NCT website they let you search NCT groups by postcode. There were loads where we are. We did that and picked one that's closest to our postcode, about 5 mins' walk from home. If the friendships aren't to be, at last it will be relatively easy to go! The Signature one, from memory, also had more on breastfeeding and c-sections so that was part of why we went for it over the other package.

Hope whoever said they live near Croydon isn't affected by that big fire. ☹️

ReginaPhalange89 · 01/01/2019 07:20

Happy New year mummies!

I was in bed for 10.30, even my 6 year old stayed up til midnight haha.

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 01/01/2019 07:41

Happy new year everyone! I definitely recommend doing NCT. The friends I made there were a lifesaver for me during the first year of parenting. parenting can be really lonely sometimes so it's nice to have someone else going through it with you. Even if you have friends who already have kids their kids aren't at the same stage as yours so their experiences are completely different. We're all still really close now and see each other at least once a week even though we've all returned to work. In terms of the course content it's a bit rubbish to be honest. The only thing I found came in handy was the bit about c sections because when it was time for me to have one I wasn't scared by the number of people in the room etc because I already knew what to expect. It is quite pricey but totally worth it to make friends. I have heard stories about some groups not getting on though so it's luck of the draw.

I saw people discussing buying stuff upthread. I recommend booking tickets for the baby show (i think it's in march) So many great bargains (especially on large items like travel systems and car seats) and lots of freebies too.

14+2 today and feeling sooo much better! Half the time i don't even remember i'm pregnant lol Looking forward to re-starting the gym now and sorting out this first trimester weight gain

Squ1ggle · 01/01/2019 07:50

Happy New year everyone

@AllIWantIsToSleepAndEat ah lovely to have someone local!

RoseBud2016 · 01/01/2019 08:21

Happy New Year everyone!

@Regina I have a 17 month old who will have just turned 2 in July. So we are thinking about getting a double pushchair. We will buy second hand though because I’m not sure we will use it for more than a year.
Have you thought about any ones in particular?

Does anyone live on the South coast? X

Jxtina86 · 01/01/2019 08:25

Happy New Year all!

@StargazyDrifter I'm near Croydon and whilst on the tram line that runs past the place, not been affected thankfully. Didn't even realise what had happened until DH told me just now. So awful for all those affected.

ReginaPhalange89 · 01/01/2019 08:28

@RoseBud2016 well, we currently have an Oyster which I really like. You can get an oyster max which is basically a double version, it looks identical! So I'm trying to find out if the seats I have would fit on to the double chassis ! But I can't seem to get an answer. If I could do that I would, you can get second hand frames on eBay etc.

If not I'm probably just going to keep an eye on Facebook marketplace, Gumtree etc for a second hand one nearer the time. Haven't really looked at any so not sure what I'd like ! Like you I don't think we'll use it for long so definitely don't want to fork out loads. Although to be fair it's probably the only big thing we need to get, we can re use the crib, cot bed etc !

ReginaPhalange89 · 01/01/2019 08:28

I'm in the West of Scotland is anyone else around here ?

Jxtina86 · 01/01/2019 08:43

@ReginaPhalange89 can I ask which Oyster you currently have? I was having a look online and really like the look of them. Local shop is a stockist so going to have a play but first hand experience is always good to hear!

ReginaPhalange89 · 01/01/2019 09:12

@Jxtina86 I think mine is just called an Oyster 2 ! I got mine from a pram centre near me but think this is the same one....

www.bumpstartbabyshop.co.uk/products/babystyle-oyster-2-wild-purple

I really like it. It's quite compact, had a lot of comments on how petite the carrycot was ! It's really nice to push, love that it parent or forward faces . Folds down really easily and quite small (although that wasn't an issue for us, but I'm sure it'd fit in a small boot). I loved that it was a separate carrycot for newborn rather than a seat that converts to both. You can also buy colour packs so our original plan when we thought we didn't need a double was just to buy a new colour!

Jxtina86 · 01/01/2019 09:20

@ReginaPhalange89 ooh that does sound good, thanks! I think I was looking at the Oyster Zero, but the 2 looks even better. Not sure the Zero can be parent facing unless you use the carry cot which did put me off. Compact is good - we don't have a car so use public transport a lot and will need to be able to fold it up if necessary. A BabyZen is also on the potential list but not sure it's worth the higher price point plus baby looks quite low whereas seems a bit higher in the Oyster which I like.

HchyScott · 01/01/2019 09:21

Anyone nearby Buckinghamshire or are the London ladies my closest people? Happy new year all! X

ReginaPhalange89 · 01/01/2019 09:34

Ah yeah I just googled babyzen, not keen on the look of that ! It also looks like one that doesn't have a separate carrycot, I had one like that with my first baby and hated it ! Had to take it all apart constantly to fold it to go in the pram etc. It was an old silvercross though and don't think they're even sold anymore lol.

Michelle0507 · 01/01/2019 09:47

Where is the baby show at?

I was a Nanny for twins and we had the mountain bugee double it was amazing.

Happy New Year x

Capybaras · 01/01/2019 09:49

Happy new year everyone! Can't believe we're having our babies this year!

I'm in South Wales (think I'm the only one by the sounds of it!)

Haven't a clue about prams but there's a pram centre nearish to us so will head there to try them out.

GiGi18 · 01/01/2019 09:52

Happy new year everyone, can't believe we are having a baby this year! Thanks for the new thread @wombatron

With regards to stuff, I've already got a pram as my pregnant sister bought one second hand from gumtree then got gifted the exact same one by my cousin so I'm getting the first one. It's an icandy. Seen a few people on here don't like them, any reasons? I literally have no idea about this stuff! Will need to get a separate car seat as it's not the full travel system. I'm itching to get stuff in the sales but still not had my scan. It's next Tuesday so a week today!

I'm in Glasgow, think there are a few Scottish ladies on here @ReginaPhalange89

Went to the pub for NY last night and stayed out till 1am. I feel absolutely exhausted today so definitely a lazy one! I didn't have any alcohol, had two erlingers which does a nice alcohol free beer and a soda water and lime for the bells. If I'd had one prosseco I would have been sad I couldn't have more so better to have none at all. I think that will be the last time I go to the pub for a while, it's really not the same sober and the volume gets higher and higher. Man I'm getting old and least I'll have an excuse to stay in my PJs at home soon.

cravingmilkshake · 01/01/2019 09:53

Thanks @wombatron I am here. X

BirthdayKake · 01/01/2019 10:00

Happy baby year everyone!!

Regina the Oyster 2 is exactly what I'm planning on getting, in olive. Glad to hear it's a good pram! So bloody hard to find second hand though. Need to sell my Cosatto first, it's very girly and I'm bored of it anyway!

Hope everyone's ok today. I'm feeling smug that most of the country will be waking up to the same level of sickness that I've had for bloody weeks now, ha!

Capybaras · 01/01/2019 10:12

It's so nice waking up hangover free! I'm actually enjoying not drinking and was thinking last night, 'maybe I'll just be one of those people who quits drinking' - doubt that will happen. Great to have a clear head though and no NYE drunken regrets!

Are there any good websites which review prams etc for a head-start before hitting the shops to get a feel for what we want? When are people starting to buy stuff?
Bought a few things in the sales - bottle/steriliser sets, a bouncer amongst other things but don't know when to start buying the big bits!

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 01/01/2019 10:16

@Capybaras the madeformums website is really good for reviews and recommendations. Always go and check out the items in store though (mothercare/ mamas and papas) to get a feel for it all. I was dead set on getting a Stokke Crusi pram when I was pregnant but when I tried it out it was just too cumbersome and difficult to push so ended up with the Xplory instead after trying it all out first

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 01/01/2019 10:17

Also another tip is to join the amazon prime family club for some good bargains - we ended up getting the perfect prep machine for only £45 on there
