I've never had a migraine before ! The blurry has gone now but I've got a headache istead, I took some paracetamol but threw up not long after so probably not going to help 🙈

Kentishgal · 14/12/2018 11:02

Sorry they're called ocular migraines, not optical. I think some people first get migraines in pregnancy.

Oh Roo I hadn't realised you've been so poorly for weeks! That's really tough.

Laburna that's also tough about the sugar? So feel for you just wanting anything that takes the sickness away. I have not yet had a brush with GD but apparently possible with PCOS regardless of BMI. So I'm half expecting it to crop up later. They're not testing me proactively though.

AIDE2424 lovely news! So exciting! ❤️

OneStep2 hope the work announcement goes well, it's nice to get all done up and feel like you a bit more, I sometimes feel like all this sloping around in stretchy jeans hasn't been good for my confidence, but equally the thought of thing etc 🤢. One day! Your family are the best! 😂

Kentishgal I know exactly what you mean about chargeable hours, did this in another life. Got the bollockings, had things written off, had the nightmares. Horrid. Funnily enough I was wondering only the other day whether they take a dip in the first trimester, must do, and you don't have the stamina to work longer to make them up. Hopefully not long til you can tell them?

I've made myself 1L of chopped ginger and hot water and this seems to be helping. Not planning on leaving the house today.

Kentishgal · 14/12/2018 12:22

Yes stargazydrifter mine certainly have! I've told my line manager and HR but not really interested unfortunately - you know what it's like, you're either in the office and meeting your target or off sick. I had 6 weeks off in summer when I had my tube removed and endometriosis sorted, and then MiL died, so can't really take any more time off. I just want to hibernate and forget about work!

Ok I'm inspired - now off to make a litre of ginger tea too!!!

Bugger! In a car crash - police chasing a car and the car they were chasing went into us. Car might be a write-off.

Can anyone advise on what happens with the toddler's car seat? Obviously we have to replace it - is this likely to be covered by the car or home insurance? Or do we have to buy it again ourselves?

Kentishgal · 14/12/2018 13:12

RooKangaroo - same thing happened to me when my daughter was about three months - his insurers paid for a new car seat and isofix - I just sent them details.

Ps v frightening for you though - are you ok?

BirthdayKake · 14/12/2018 13:15

Sorry Roo! Someone smashed into us on a bloody motorway last December - insurance did pay out for car seats

RooKangaroo · 14/12/2018 13:18

Thanks both, good to know!

We're all fine - toddler hit her head, but should be ok.

ememem84 · 14/12/2018 13:20

Oh man! roo xxx

Just succumbed to a tuna cheese and onion toasted wrap. Yummm

BirthdayKake · 14/12/2018 13:23

I'd get her checked out, Roo. We were compensated and when I had months of on and off neck pain, I was glad I'd gone for it!

StargazyDrifter · 14/12/2018 13:54

Oh Roo what a shock! I'd go to GP and get you and the LO looked over, for peace of mind and to have a record. While I'm no expert, there have been a couple of threads lately about crashes and falls and the conclusion has been that beans are well cushioned and resilient and v unlikely to be affected. Sending you hugs and whatever treat doesn't make you 🤢. 💐

Kentishgal I know exactly what you mean. It's a horrible environment to be in unless you're 100% firing on all cylinders, and even then it has its drawbacks! Put yourself first as much as you can. Also bear in mind pregnancy sick leave doesn't count like normal sick leave towards attendance procedures or appraisals or whatever, so you have that in your back pocket. But I totally get that this makes no difference to their overall perception. These places have muddled values. ☹️

thedust · 14/12/2018 14:08

Stargazydrifter - I've got PCOS too and have been identified as high risk for GD. I've got a glucose tolerance test booked in for April (seems so far away!) although I'm within the recommended BMI range. I always try to eat well but the first trimester is really messing with my diet - all I want to eat is pretty much everything that is bad for pcos and GD. White carbs! Sugar!

I've felt really ill today after my flu jab yesterday. Just the typical side effects, a bit of a fever and achey. I slept terribley too so I'm so glad it's Friday. I very nearly called in sick this morning, my manager doesn't know yet about the pregnancy. I don't really see her that often and she actually isn't in today so I brought myself in.

Hope you are ok Roo - must be a shock!

StargazyDrifter · 14/12/2018 14:25

thedust that's really helpful to know, thank you. I might ask about a test next time I see the midwife. I'm also a healthy BMI (just!) and would rather not wait for it to go wrong. Also craving carbs and sugar way more than usual. If I don't eat them I get really hungry!

StargazyDrifter · 14/12/2018 14:26

Gah - sent too soon! Hope the flu jab stuff subsides soon! They are always so unpleasant.

ReginaPhalange89 · 14/12/2018 14:26

Oh gosh Roo! That's scary. Someone crashed into me when I was 7 months pregnant and it was terrifying although thankfully we were ok! I would assume the car seat would be paid for but not sure !

TwinkleDay · 14/12/2018 15:50

@rookangaroo sorry to hear your having such a shit day I hope you and passengers are ok, I love my cars and would go mad if I even got a scratch on one especially as we are trying to sell one if anyone is interested in a lovely blue 09 Ford Focus zetec s ... but the main thing is you are ok x

Laburna · 14/12/2018 16:05

I have spoken to the MW about the GD as I knew from the start my blood sugar numbers were all over the place. There are a few trusts who will test early for GD, but mine don't do earlier than 16 weeks, and it's mainly to get past the first trimester. I think I'd have more issues at the moment trying to stick to a GD diet, and I was mostly diet controlled last time, than if I am eating what and when I can. It's getting easier now, and I suspect in another week or so, the sickness will be entirely gone and I'll be able to eat normally again.

I think it's important to note for people at risk of GD, that different trusts have different policies regarding who gets sent for a test in the first instance. So on the list of things you get measured against to rate your risk, some trusts will only need one tick, others will expect 3 before they send you. It's a bit crazy, but it doesn't usually develop until 24/26 weeks, and then can get picked up at your MW appointments after that anywaym, so you can be sent later anyway. Some people do two or three tests in the end!

StargazyDrifter · 14/12/2018 16:09

Oh that's really, really helpful to know Laburna! I'd be lost without this thread as no family support, and even then you guys are way more expert. ❤️

Laburna · 14/12/2018 16:27

I find it really crazy that there aren't nationwide policies and procedures for pregnancy, but everywhere does it all different!

StargazyDrifter · 14/12/2018 17:19

I know! Saw on another thread that a Parliamentary committee is looking at a national strategy at the moment. Maybe something will come of it eventually.

thedust · 14/12/2018 17:32

Oh it's such a postcode lottery isn't it! Guess my trust is one that automatically refers for a GTT just for one risk factor. But then I've heard no mention of the electronic notes so still have the folder.

StargazyDrifter · 14/12/2018 18:24

Soo the 1L of hot water with fresh ginger hasn't done anything. Not even better for just being more hydrated. Lost the whole day to nausea. Start again tomorrow. 🤢

Laburna · 14/12/2018 18:50

Oh no @stargazydrifter that sucks. On the days when mine were really bad, I never found anything that helped either :(
Tomorrow 🤞🤞

Kentishgal · 14/12/2018 18:57

Ditto stargazydrifter - if anything I felt worse after drinking it!

Mind you I was also chain-eating digestives, which I'm not sure helped.
