12 week scan OK today thankfully. Slight chaos as they lost my notes and sent them to the wrong hospital so now I have to go and retrieve them.

Baby measuring 12+3 so EDD now 1/7/18. Baby was very placid and still during the scan but heart is beating. Hopefully this temperament persists! And they didn’t charge for scan photos as I was wearing my NHS ID badge and gave me loads so that was nice.

Fingers crossed for those with scans the next few days.

StargazyDrifter · 20/12/2018 21:26

That's lovely news, Diana! And good of them on the photos. 😊

Michelle0507 · 21/12/2018 10:31

I seem to have been hit with an awful pain in my left hip, currently sat with a hot water bottle on it, has anyone experienced this? I have been on Google (suprise) and seems it is quite common.

ememem84 · 21/12/2018 11:02

Disaster today. As it’s friday and payday and we were in town early I said I’d treat dh to a stay in coffee at local coffee shop.

Apparently my aversion to fresh coffee is back. 😭 had to drink up and leave quick. Cannot stand the smell.

Michelle0507 · 21/12/2018 12:12

Rang MW for some advice, it wasn't mine - thank goodness she just didn't seem confident in what to do. She told me to call my GP I said they won't see me as I have a MW ring EPAU I'm discharged because I have a MW! In the end she said I'll call EPAU, they're scanning me 1pm Christmas Eve. There is a Dr on today at a sit and wait clinic but itll be hours as there is a back log. At least if it gets worse today I have an option.
Google told me it's normal for 11w and I called my friend who's a health visitor and she explained the same about the hormone realease around 12w and hip pain.

TheScaredyKat · 21/12/2018 13:21

I've now told my work colleagues the news, they are all super excited. Felt under pressure to tell them in the end because I told my manager last week (before 12w scan) just because I had her on her own which doesn't happen that often so I thought I should take the opportunity.
She then told her manager but forgot to say that it wasn't common knowledge yet and she's been talking about it openly in the office and mentioned it to me in a meeting on Wednesday. Luckily at the time there was only one other person in the room and I'm not sure they caught onto what was being said (or pretended not to hear). I just quickly changed the subject as it was super awkward. Then when she later approached me and my colleagues at lunchtime I was so worried she was going to mention it that I just walked away.
When I told the OH about it he was horrified that my manager had been gossiping. She made out to me that she had to tell her but I don't think that's strictly true is it?!

Michelle0507 · 21/12/2018 13:28

My supervisor/line manager didn't tell my actual manager in fact she's amazing at respecting my wishes.

Onestep2 · 21/12/2018 16:43

Had 12 week scan today, baby healthy and wouldn't sit still for a decent photo. Was upside down and doing flips and all sorts!

However was very disappointed by nhs, was rushed in, was on bed for less than 3 mins, sonographer didn't even spend much time hovering over baby and rushed us out. Photo they printed is all blurry and rubbish and you can't make out fuck all.

SOOOOOOO booked another private scan for tonight. 😂😂😂

Squ1ggle · 21/12/2018 16:45

Had a funny do on the tram home, got all hot and dizzy then passed out for 3 or 4 stops and when I came round the lady sat next to me had actually moved away. Thanks love Hmm

Capybaras · 21/12/2018 17:13

Oh @Squ1ggle what is wrong with people? Hope you're feeling better now, may be due to low BP! Make sure you take it easy tonight and hydrate!

Hope you're ok @Michelle0507 it's reassuring to know you have a scan in a few days and do have an option in case it gets worse. Fingers crossed it's just stretching pains or something!

That's a shame you felt you had to let people know @TheScaredyKat . I've been really lucky that my line manager and manager have kept it quiet for me. Had my works Christmas do on weds eve and I think I managed to get away with passing off lemonade as gin and elderflower as prosecco!

Have my early reassurance scan tomorrow and morning and finally got my official 12 week scan date through for the first week of jan when I should be 13+1 (but hopefully
Tomorrow's scan will shed some light on that!)

Capybaras · 21/12/2018 17:14

Congratulations on the scan @Onestep2! That must be so amazing to see your wriggly baby! Hope you manage to get some decent pics at your scan this eve!

Laburna · 21/12/2018 18:08

Went for the meeting this morning and it was a bit pointless to be honest. As suspected my PAPP-A is low and everything else is relatively within normal parameters. Being 38 has dragged the risk rate to high, she said if I'd been 18 I'd have been fine.

She wasn't massively helpful, but I think because we'd already decided to do the NIPT, and we've got an appointment with my consultant tomorrow for the test and a rescan.

Whether the result comes back as high or low risk for downs overall, we'll be continuing the pregnancy, but have my fingers crossed that it's a PAPP-A problem rather than downs.

Squ1ggle · 21/12/2018 18:24

Thanks @Capybaras yes, it happened once when I was expecting ds and my bp can be low anyway. Feeling better now. Just completely shattered. Last day at work today and after a horrible few months work-wise I'm more than ready for a break

Michelle0507 · 21/12/2018 18:30

@capybaras thank you, hopefully it is. I had some of the most awful stomach pains I've ever experienced earlier when I was stood cooking tea as obviously the other half couldn't cook but it eased after 10 min. Wishing the weekend away now!

Squ1ggle · 21/12/2018 19:02

That sounds positive @Laburna fingers crossed for you

TwinkleDay · 21/12/2018 19:17

@onestep2 sorry nhs was rushed and not great with the phone calls but glad they were saying all the right things.

@laburna good luck for rescan and test tommorow, hope little poppet ok in there. X

I had twow episodes of gagging today, first on a bit of fat on my bacon sandwich this morning and then in the afternoon an out of date product that smelt like rotten eggs was open in the kitchen so I ran out and got some air... yuck yuck

TheScaredyKat · 21/12/2018 19:50

That sounds like good news @Laburna Hope all goes well for the test and rescan!

TwinkleDay · 21/12/2018 21:23

Anybody know about the eligibility for the site start maternity grant? We have never claimed any benefits so unsure how ‘well off’ you have to be to not qualify for it.

TwinkleDay · 21/12/2018 21:23

Site = sure

Doh!

StargazyDrifter · 21/12/2018 22:02

Good luck, Laburna, hope they are good to you and you get an answer soon!

Squ1ggle that's horrible, feel better soon!

Onestep that's not very festive, hopefully this evening's private scan was better!

I sympathise with the gagging, happened to me today over lunch. Ugh. I am starting to feel like there's a tiny bit of a bump there now. Can't such all of it in. Exciting! If a little bit surreal.

Capybaras · 21/12/2018 22:16

@TwinkleDay when I had my booking in appointment the midwife skipped over the surestart grant as both me and my partner are working, she didn't even mention salary etc so may only be entitled if on some form of benefits? Not 100% though sorry!

@StargazyDrifter I'm starting to get a bit of a bump too - I'm choosing all my clothes carefully at the moment to hide it! Don't think I can wear my ordinary jeans any longer too as they are getting tight!

StargazyDrifter · 21/12/2018 22:42

Capybaras I also can't wear my normal jeans any more. Went out for lunch with DH today and had to unbutton halfway through! 😂

TwinkleDay · 22/12/2018 06:46

Pahaha yes ladies! Bumpy is in full swing here only a couple more day to hide it, I went out and bought a lovely Xmas dress covered in penguins the other night.. tried it on when I got home and OH was like err yeah maybe not that one you look round 😲 I am a size 14 - 16 normally lol so will save it for Xmas day, when folks are about at home I have my big fluffy dressing gown on, when at work I have big long scarves, an apron or my massive factory fleece on... I have today round people and then my re wigglebum scan ok Monday PM then I can start on the waredrobe upgrade 😂
@capybaras no nothing has been mentioned to us either.. I have read something online about for your combined salary is over 70k then your would not be entitled to child benefits the £80 a month

allthegoodnamesalreadytaken · 22/12/2018 07:47

@Laburna that's good news. Will keep fingers crossed for you that it isn't downs.

@TwinkleDay our combined salary is £100k ish and we get child benefit for DD still. I think it's if either of you earn more than £50kish then you have to pay a small percentage back? Not sure on the sure start grant though sorry

Laburna · 22/12/2018 08:05

@Twinkleday Child Benefit is based on single highest earner only. Which is obviously ridiculous, but basically if the highest earner in your house earns less than £50k a year it's tax free, between £50 and £60k and the tax payable is less than the benefit you get. If you earn over £60k as the highest earner it's not worth claiming, but you have to tell them you don't want the money to get your pension credits. You can do this via a form you get after the baby is born.

The stupid part is, both partners can earn £50k and they can get more than a family where there's only one income of £60k.
