Are anyone else starting to get braxton hicks more frequently? I’m just curious as I have noticed that I have these last couple of weeks.

powkin · 30/12/2018 20:46

Fingers and toes crossed for you @Lulabell1 - sounds like baby is ready to take on the world already! Can’t believe we have another one on the way already!

Been buying loads of little bits today so feeling a lot more prepared, just need my second hand baby bits to arrive and then I’ll start assembling the bag!

twinklingelephant · 30/12/2018 20:59

Good luck @lulabell1, I hope it all goes swiftly for you and you have you baby in your arms very soon. 34 weeks? Eek, really need to pack a bag now!!

twinklingelephant · 30/12/2018 21:01

@surprisedmom, I'll try a hot water bottle, good idea. Do you lie on it? I have a pregnancy pillow which is great first thing but half way through the night I often use it only between my legs and find my wedge pillow better under my bump. Just nothing is comfy towards the end of the night!!!

AliceRR · 30/12/2018 21:15

Just going though baby clothes I have for hospital bag

I have some “newborn” which generally seems to be up to about 7lbs, “up to 1 month” which seems to be the same as newborn and both up to about 10lb and then 0-3 months which seems to be up to about 14lbs but obviously it varies from shop to shop

I can’t imagine I would have a baby over 10lb (I mean I know I don’t know yet but am I likely to get more of an indication?) so I’m thinking I just need newborn / up to 10lb clothes for baby? 🤔

BeverlyZimek · 30/12/2018 21:31

@AliceRR at your scans they can estimate your baby’s weight but it’s less common for them to be over 10 pounds (I think the average is between 7-9 pounds) so I’m sure you will just need newborn clothing in your hospital bag xx

AliceRR · 30/12/2018 21:36

@BeverlyZimek At my scans I think I’ve always been spot on average and midwife also suggests I’m “just right” size wise. DH and I were both small ish babies (5-6lbs) and we are not big so would be surprised if we have a baby over 7lbs but you just don’t know. I’m seeing MW tomorrow so will see what she says about size

Fredthespider · 30/12/2018 21:42

@AliceRR we've packed an unopened pack of "tiny baby" vests - but that is all we've bought in that size, we figured we can sell on if not needed, and if they are needed then they can manage in that whilst someone pops to the shops to get more stuff. Then we've got more vests for newborn and 0-3. Babygrow/outfits to go on top we've got newborn and up to 1 month but tbh the whole size thing has confused me as there is some big differences in the sizes - Waitrose newborn is huge!

We figured that they will most likely only need to be dressed in a vest whilst in the hospital where it's warm and we've got other sizes that we're going to pack into a separate bag which can stay in the car to save space in the room/around the bed.

Surprisedmom · 30/12/2018 21:43

@AliceRR if your midwife notes have a personalised growth chart in them then you can see based on the curve what they predict your baby will weigh. For me the lowest line still predicts over 7lb as the 20week scan showed he was a big baby. However, yours should be personalised and totally different.

@twinklingelephant I tend to lie on the side that isn’t aching and then put the hot water bottle on the hip that is rather than lying on it as I don’t think you’re supposed to do that incase they burst. But if you have one of the microwaveable heat up ones you might try lying on it.

Rowse · 30/12/2018 21:44

@Notquiteagandt when you put it like that, I don't know what I was thinking considering not washing them Confused

I hate all the fire retardant chemicals etc and usually always wash what I buy. I think the way the muslins are all nicely and neatly rolled up made me want to keep them that way for ease of packing!

I loved seeing all the little newborn clothes come out of the wash, I enjoyed the process far more than I thought I would! And it feels good to be more prepared.

AliceRR · 30/12/2018 21:47

Thanks @Surprisedmom @Fredthespidee I’ll have a good look at my notes. The sizes are confusing!

Also those who are washing clothes, would you also wash baby coat? I have a little jacket I bought online in newborn size and also MIL bought us a really nice winter coat. If I’m washing clothes and blankets then it makes sense to wash that I suppose but then also wondering whether to even bother taking the coat as you’re not supposed to have them on in the car seat so maybe better to just use a blanket? It’s so adorable though! (the coat)

Sorry, cue the silly questions now I am trying to actually plan for a newborn! 🙈

Fredthespider · 30/12/2018 21:49

In terms of size because our measurements were split between two scans we never got given a rough guide to how big they thought baby would be. Head was 14th percentile, abdominal was 24th percentile at 22 weeks, but femur length was 75th percentile at 20 weeks. So it's a skinny long one based on that.

Bump has been pretty much dead on 50th for the fundal height measurements so who knows!

Yakadee · 30/12/2018 21:52

@Lulabell1 - good luck! Hope to see a lovely update soon. Congratulations xxx

Since2016 · 30/12/2018 22:27

Good luck @lulabell1

Can’t believe it’s almost 2019...

AutumnLee12 · 30/12/2018 22:29

Good luck @Lulabell1 thinking of you!

I definitely need to start my hospital bag! I've made a list and got most of it I just need to physically do it!

Lookingforadvice123 · 30/12/2018 22:42

What's everyone's views on post pregnancy leggings eg the ones in the link below? I know people have mentioned the belly bandit, but I'm less keen on that as it's to wear all the time. I need to buy some more maternity leggings to wear after birth anyway, as the ones I'm wearing now are getting thin and holey and I definitely won't be back in normal trousers for a few weeks! But I'm wondering if I should get some of these post pregnancy ones instead...

AliceRR · 30/12/2018 23:54

Any tips for restless legs? Between restless legs, painful hips and PGP it’s getting more difficult to sleep

AliceRR · 30/12/2018 23:55

Oh and the baby feels like she’s trying to break out of my uterus 😂

BeverlyZimek · 31/12/2018 00:02

@AliceRR I’m having the same problems so wish I could help but I’ve been looking for tips too 😕

twiglet · 31/12/2018 00:19

@Lulabell1 good luck 🙂

Thank you for the bra recommendations ladies.
I seem unable to sleep at all tonight Sad I'm so tired as well! Everytime I'm relaxed my legs are twitching and my feet feel hot.

Since2016 · 31/12/2018 00:22

I’d be interested to see what you think of them if you get some @lookingforadvice123 I wore maternity / high waisted leggings last time plus the bandit which worked fine but hear you re the thin / holey - what Id really like is something that’s as thick and supportive as my usual running leggings - the reviews of these are a little mixed? I do have a pair of yoga leggings I can still get into though so may have to live in those!

maxiflump1 · 31/12/2018 00:48

Another one awake here. So tired but every time I lie down I end up having a coughing fit which then brings up acid. A couple times I've coughed so hard a bit of wee has come out which is a bit mortifying

Hope you're doing ok @Lulabell1

BeverlyZimek · 31/12/2018 00:59

I can’t sleep either 😕 and I’m thinking of you @Lulabell1, hope all is well xx

detachablehoof · 31/12/2018 07:06

Thanks to everyone who's posted reassuring comments that you just do deal with labour when it comes to the time. That's what I'm hoping for. I do feel like I need to be better prepared and more knowledgeable about pain relief options etc.

Going baby stuff shopping today - with just five weeks to go it's about time too 😱 eeek it's suddenly feeling SO close - we don't even have a name sorted yet!

emalady · 31/12/2018 07:08

I didn't sleep at all on Friday night but managed to sleep OK last night having done a bit more exercise in the day and upped the meditation. I also realised I didn't have any coffee at all so I might have to avoid it for now as it was wonderful to actually sleep. Hope you managed to get a few hours.
