@babyp160 wow so organized I may just nick that idea as it'll be so much easier for DH rather than him asking me when i'll most probably be out of it

@Lookingforadvice123 sorry to hear about your friend

lanalawr · 23/12/2018 20:42

@Celebelly I wouldn't worry about a going home outfit. I took one in for dd (a 0-3 month romper suit because she was a summer baby). We never got around to putting her in it so she just came home in the sleepsuit she was wearing. It turned out that it didn't fit her until at least 3 months old anyway because it was huge. This time I'm planning to buy a couple of new sleepsuits so this baby's first outfit will be new and all being well they'll come home in a new sleepsuit. After that they're likely to be in hand me downs.

@Lookingforadvice123 I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. That's heartbreaking. It's frightening because you just assume at this point that things will be fine. I hope she's got a good support network around her.

Yakadee · 23/12/2018 20:51

@Lookingforadvice123 - that's just awful! Your poor friend and her family x

sickmumma · 23/12/2018 21:13

@Lookingforadvice123 that's so awful! Your poor friend! It does really put things into perspective doesn't it.

For all the ladies asking about size early baby is usually upto 5lb something, newborn/first size is usually upto 7.8lbs, upto 1 month upto 10lbs and I think 0-3 is 14lbs but that's me remembering off the top of my head! If you are buying all in one coats I find they come up big! Supermarket sizes are more generous in width and places such as h and m and next tend to be slimmer but longer (which is what I needed for my babies!) 4th baby due and you kind of know what you like - a sleepsuit with built in feet and hands are a must! Muslins and bibs in marks and Spencer's are best value for money/ quality and have nicer colours! That's my advice 😂 wish I could remember what breast pads I used - I remember the Tommee Tippee ones were a bit scratchy (as I got those with a bottle set) and I am
Pretty sure I swapped to the the pink
Johnson box ones but that may well
Have changed in the 5 years since I've had DD!

Lookingforadvice123 · 23/12/2018 21:18

Thank you for the messages all, they did have an indication that something wasn't right but I don't think this was at all expected as I don't think they thought the issue was this serious (I'm not putting details as obviously it's not my place).

It's horribly sad though and does make me think twice about moaning when I'm uncomfortable etc and made me squeeze my lovely DS that bit tighter. I know I'm very lucky.

Size wise I know that John Lewis and ASDA newborn sizes were generous when I was buying for DS (3 years ago!). I think their newborn size went up to over 9lbs and they were all huge in DS 7lb 13 when born. Next were a good bit smaller if I remember, newborn was up to 7lb odd. The labels should say, I think.

Celebelly · 23/12/2018 22:01

Has anyone not really had any Braxton Hicks yet?

The only times I feel what might be tightening seems to just be when she's moved in a certain way and is pressing against me in an awkward angle. When she moves again it's fine.

Are they super obvious? Ie. would I know without doubt if I had one?

Camsie30 · 23/12/2018 22:04

I've never heard of a going home outfit! Brought my daughter home in a sleep suit and snow suit as it was freezing in Jan! Probably same again for this Feb boy. I've just ordered some "up to one month" vests from m&s on the sparks pre sale. Will get some more basics from Asda/ Sainsbury's/ Tesco at some point. We're moving in with my parents after Nye as I'll have no kitchen at all from 7th when the builders come back (have had temp kitchen since September) so will be with them when I give birth probably. Making a list of all the things I'll need for the first few weeks so we can take it all over in the next week or so. Luckily they're only ten mins away! It's long...!

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 23/12/2018 22:24

@celebelly I’ve never noticed when I’ve had Braxton Hicks.. I remember in previous pregnancies, the midwife asked if I’d had many, I replied ‘none’ and she informed me I was having a fairly strong one right then... I was clueless 😂

As for going home outfits, my two sons both had a special outfit for leaving the hospital, which have been kept in their keepsake box. I still have my coming home outfit from 1981..
I wouldn’t use an all in one snow suit though, as they’re not safe in car seats are they?

Camsie30 · 23/12/2018 22:36

It's not a very thick one and my daughter was so tiny that she only fit into the body of it, the arms and legs were empty!!!

Since2016 · 23/12/2018 22:38

Going home outfit here is just a new sleep suit. I kind of assumed that was the general approach - an outfit for a newborn? As in proper clothes?

@lookingforadvice123 that’s awful your poor friend. I know someone who had a still birth at 34 weeks and it terrifies me. It defintely makes me realise how lucky we are.

Agree re JL being big and Next being small - you’ll also work out fairly quick what / where you like too!

maxiflump1 · 23/12/2018 22:47

@Celebelly I've been having Braxton Hicks since about 26 weeks but it is my second baby. It feels like your whole stomach tightens as thorough baby is having a big stretch and it can take my breath away! Don't remember having them this often or this early with my first so don't think it's anything to worry about if you're not having them.

babyp160 · 23/12/2018 22:47

Mothercare also has a 50% off clothes sale. I went in today.

@Lookingforadvice123 I hope they're ok. Nothing will Prepare you for the news xx

Surprisedmom · 23/12/2018 22:51

@Celebelly I don’t think i’ve had anything i’d feel sure was Braxton Hicks, only like you said that sometimes I feel tight or uncomfortable based on babies position (or stuffing myself at dinner and feeling overly full).

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 23/12/2018 23:27

My going home outfit isn’t a full set of clothes as such, it’s just something that I think looks comfy and is a bit nicer than the average daily wear. Could still be a sleep suit, but it would be a nicer (to me) one.

I’ve just bought a converse vest with soft matching trousers today.. that might be the outfit, just need to choose the jacket, socks and hat.. or it might be something else entirely 🤷🏻‍♀️

babyp160 · 23/12/2018 23:47

We put our snuzpod3 together this weekend after reading some reviews on missing and broken parts.

Thank god we did. Bolts didn't screw onto the nuts at all as they were not cut in properly.

Warning to those who have this crib it's common.

lanalawr · 24/12/2018 00:33

All those saying next are small and Asda big, do you mean width wise? I definitely found the opposite but dd is long and skinny so always grew out of things in length rather than width.

@Celebelly I never noticed BH last time. I think I probably did have them but thought it was dd pushing against me. I've noticed them a lot this time.

Lulabell1 · 24/12/2018 02:31

@lookingforadvice123 thats really not nice news, and at this time of the year. My friend also lost her baby yesterday evening she had him at 24 weeks and he was fighting for 6 weeks but last night passed unfortunately I also squeezed DD very tight and even let her sleep in my bed last night as DP was on a night shift i feel very strange and cannot sleep since hearing the news.

Going home outfit I have had since October my auntie got me a Ralph Lauren baby grow with matching hat for my babyshower and his name will be Ralphie so I think its the perfect bit of clothing for himSmile

Lulabell1 · 24/12/2018 02:45

Also may I add what is this insomnia about😒 I have to be up and at work for 8.30

AvoidingMarking · 24/12/2018 03:08

Same @Lulabell1 though DD will wake me at 6 at the latest. I've woken up at this time for 3 nights in a row.

Just woken up and been sick. Praying it's pregnancy related and I'm not ill. OH is working Christmas and Boxing Day so I'm meant to be going to Mum's.

hayley013 · 24/12/2018 06:19

@Lulabell1 I love the name Ralphie, so cute. I've woken early this morning, need to pop to the shops for last minute bits, I know I'm crazy. Going to go now seeing as I'm up.

I feel seriously rough this morning, stomach is aching and feel nauseous, hope this isn't the return of it for another 7 weeks 😫 it could be excitement though, im terrible at Christmas haha

Yakadee · 24/12/2018 07:30

@Celebelly - I'm another who hasn't had BH (I don't think so anyway???). Never did with my first either? I do get the uncomfortable because baby has moved but maybe that's one?

Haven't picked which outfit just yet but was thinking nice sleepsuit and snuggly onsie / coat (car seat safe), hat etc.

Last half day at work today. I'm working from home and my boss has told me to log on and then log off at 12 - I hope I don't have anything to do lol x

twiglet · 24/12/2018 07:44

No going home outfit here either I had just put in a range of sizes of vests and sleep suits and a cardigan which MIL knitted and a hat that DH granny knitted.
It's cold up here hence the cardigan as I can't put him into a snow suit for the car seat.
Got a fleecy blanket as well to go over the top.

Yakadee · 24/12/2018 07:50

@twiglet - we got given (so sorry, don't know where from) a wrap thing for the carseat. It goes in under baby and the straps etc go on baby like normal and it wraps over the top of them. It was fab, very snug. I need to dig it out. X

AvoidingMarking · 24/12/2018 08:11

@Celebelly I don't remember having any with my first but I had to be induced on my due date so maybe they would have started.

@Lookingforadvice123 that's awful. A colleague lost hers at 42 weeks this year. It is so sad.

twiglet · 24/12/2018 08:38

@Yakadee thanks will have a Google, I had seen some like that but didn't know if it would fit our car seat.
North East Scotland is cold it was reading minus 2 this morning and so far this Winter has been mild!
