Today was my last day at work 😀!!! So relieved that I can enjoy the run up to baby without the stress of work. Official maternity leave doesn’t kick in until mid January but had so many holidays left to take that I thought why not stop early?!?

Yakadee · 21/12/2018 17:27

@bubblybrit - bliss! Enjoy x

bubblybrit · 21/12/2018 17:54

Thank you @Yakadee! Hope you don’t have too long to go x

Notquiteagandt · 21/12/2018 17:54

So looks like I am potentially meeting my little girl sooner than thought. Scan today shows she hasnt gained as much weight as they would have liked. So brought my next scan forward and will judge it then.

Potentially be in 4wks eeeekkk seems so soon..!!

Nestings not kicked in yet. But im going to cleaning and prepping like a crazy lady now..!!

Yakadee · 21/12/2018 18:22

@bubblybrit - thankfully not too much longer. Just 6.5 working days (actually finish 16th Jan).

@Notquiteagandt - hope you're OK. I'm sure everything will be fine, glad to here they're looking after you x

babyp160 · 21/12/2018 18:54

@Notquiteagandt at least they're keeping a close eye xx

lanalawr · 21/12/2018 18:58

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking when were you told that? I was 28 weeks when mine were run. She said my levels were at 105 but 106 was their threshold for treatment. Nothing was mentioned about stores though. I think they might be rerunning bloods at 34 or 36 weeks for me though.
@Notquiteagandt wow four weeks! It's good that they're keeping a watch on how your baby is doing more regularly than planned. How are you feeling? How many weeks will you be then?

twiglet · 21/12/2018 19:09

We were going to avoid buying baby stuff until I realised the cost of things and then we decided spreading it out was for the best!
Still got a few things to get but nothing big really.

@1stTimeTina I've harassed DH into doing the big stuff as I have pgp so it's pretty sore to clean. Our new cordless Dyson has helped alot as it's really light and I can vacuum x10 quicker with no effort so it's not painful.

Notquiteagandt · 21/12/2018 19:37

Thanks all. I am so over being pregnant now. So sooner the better as far as I am concerned is better as long as she is happy and healthy in my arms. Im happy. I will be 35 nearly 36wks.

I had a scan at 36wks booked and they said no bring it forward a week as if we do end up inducing could potentially be at 36wks.

We will see whats what.

Think the fact I was vommiting non stop in the waiting room and looked like death probally helped my cause 😂

Baby has a small issue with her kidneys. Toyed with me having Hyperemesis, cholestasis and gallstones. I think, well i hope they wont let me go over.

bubblybrit · 21/12/2018 19:56

Oh that’s good @Yakadee. Bet you are on countdown now x

emalady · 21/12/2018 20:25

@notquiteadandt I'm feeling pretty much over being pregnant too. I hope she is doing OK and the kidney issue isn't too much of a problem. I've agreed to try and avoid induction but can request it if I'm too fed up. We shall see.

Surprisedmom · 21/12/2018 21:39

@notquiteadandt it does sound like you’ve had a really rough ride throughout your pregnancy. I’m glad they’re keeping a good eye on you and hope that your baby can come out soon (but not too soon).

Everyone, I wondered if you had any advice on how to handle a silly situation. My best friend (who lives overseas) is coming to visit for a few days in January, which i’m thrilled about as it means I can have some girl time and do stuff like go to the cinema before bump arrives. However, she is more than a little baby crazy (self-confessedly so) and has made several comments about how excited she is to feel my baby kicking. I really don’t want her - or anyone else - touching my stomach and feel very much that getting to feel him kick is my own personal privilege (especially since the dad isn’t around so I don’t have him to share it with).

Do any of you have any advice on how to fend her off or explain to her that I don’t want her to feel the baby kick? Is being blunt and saying ‘it’s my body and baby and I don’t want to be touched’ the best option?

Yakadee · 21/12/2018 21:52

@Surprisedmom - if she's a good friend, surely she'd just understand if you explained you don't want her to? I totally get that it's a personal thing, I'm not big on sharing it although my sisters have had a feel but we're very close but nobody else (apart from my husband). I'd maybe just tell her that it's lovely she's so excited how're you don't want her to touch your bump? X

Since2016 · 21/12/2018 21:59

I can’t stand people touching me. DH and DD and that’s it. I give off a ‘don’t touch me vibe’. I’d just say straight off that it makes you uncomfortable.

@notquiteagandt you poor thing. I’m sure she’s ok but I really feel for you. Glad you’re being well monitored.

@bubblybrit last day for me on thurs! I had toyed with going back in jan but this bug and my back issues have confirmed that I’m not! Mat leave starts on 8th jan so a month of mat leave before baby arrives. Quite comfortable with that as I’ve done diddly squat and already have plans almost every day next week 😂

Already had messages about work though.... but I’ve deleted my work email app! Hah!

Surprisedmom · 21/12/2018 22:06

Thanks @Yakadee and @since2016 you’re both right that I should just tell her honestly. I think she might be upset since she really does seem obsessed with everything about pregnancy and wants to be as close to my baby as she can (I already had to flatly refuse her visiting too close to the babies due date as she wanted to be here for the birth). But it will probably be easier to tell her no in person, rather than over the phone.

Since2016 · 21/12/2018 22:19

I would do. My best friend is a little similar, not helped by the fact that her friend who’s just had her first has let her be v hands on - measuring her bump etc - but just not for me. She knows me well enough though to know I’m just not comfortable with it - I’m sure there’s lots she can be involved in it’s lovely she’s interested!

bubblybrit · 21/12/2018 22:36

Great @Since2016! I must admit that I’m looking forward to a little rest before she arrives. DH and I still have a few small things to do around the house for her arrival so will be nice to not feel too rushed/stressed which I would be if work was on top of that!

DeliberatelyGinger · 22/12/2018 00:32

@Lulabell you automatically win cos you’re growing an entire person!

detachablehoof · 22/12/2018 00:57

I haven't bought much yet either - literally all I have got is one little outfit in newborn size, a teddy, and we just ordered the pram which hopefully should be with us at the beginning of Jan. Need to start shopping really - I have made a big list! I'm almost 34 wks now so should crack on!

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 22/12/2018 07:46

@lanalawr

My levels came back as 109 from my 28 week bloods, so when I turned up to my 31 week appointment they wanted to retest to see what they were doing (was gutted as I’d been told no more needles! 😭). They’d gone down to 108 at that appointment and my stores were a lot lower too (I think it’s more dependant on your stores..? However, as I said, I don’t fully understand it.. 😬), so they’ve put me on tablets.

Got to say I’m not loving them.. they appear to give me belly ache (feels like I need a period poo!) and they’re making me paranoid. Mild period pains were the first signs of my labours last time. I know it’ll be the tablets... but it’s ramping up my paranoia anyway!

lanalawr · 22/12/2018 08:07

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking thanks for explaining. I haven't seen the same midwife more than once yet so nobody seems to know what I've been told (or not). Mostly that's fine but this bit is different to my last pregnancy. I'm sorry the tablets are making you paranoid. Are you able to alternate them with something more gentle like spatone? I'm not enjoying the side effects either but I know that spatone doesn't cause those for me so hoping that I can switch to that after my next appointment.

Yakadee · 22/12/2018 08:29

@2019Mama - you totally win! I know my husband made a comment about 'how can you be tired already though?' (At 9:30pm!) Erm, because I'm pregnant, have a 2.5yo and have been to work! Really? He hasn't asked again x

Surprisedmom · 22/12/2018 09:03

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking it’s worth noting that the tablets the midwife gives you are usually one of two brands that upset almost everyone’s stomachs. I was told this by a medical professional friend of my mom’s and it makes sense as they’re the ones you can’t give to people with pre-existing stomach issues such as colitis. I also had lots of stomach cramps and felt awful, so I went to the doctors and got ferrous glucomate prescribed as it’s less harsh on your stomach. I’ve been a lot better since and would recommend doing that if you can, just tell the doctor you can’t stomach the current tablets and ask for ferrous glucomate instead.
