Welcome @Bramble88 I've no major tips other than to prepare to just go with the flow, you'll know what to do in the moment and you'll be well looked after x

Yakadee · 17/12/2018 02:05

No!!!! The sickness is back! My son managed to go nearly 48 hours and 1am hit and bang!!

Going to look so bad at work tomorrow (today), it's a Monday, it's (Christmas / bonus) payday, plus, I am was only off week before last because I was ill. 🤢

maxiflump1 · 17/12/2018 07:09

Oh no @Yakadee that is some bug he has!! We didn't have a great night either. DS woke up coughing at 1am and then couldn't get back to sleep so both of us ended up in the spare bed where he went back to sleep but I was then wide awake! Thankfully he's at nursery today and I'm already off work so can have a nap later!

@Bramble88 welcome to this lovely group. No real advice re labour: my first wasn't a good experience so I can't be much help! It's all worth it though!!

Yakadee · 17/12/2018 07:19

@maxiflump1 - I know! It's a sneaky bug! He was sick twice and did fall back asleep around 4:30 until about 6:45 so that's something I guess. Me and hubby got a bit of sleep but won't be going into work.

Coughs are awful - relentless! Hope you get some proper rest xx

Hi @Bramble88 - unfortunately my labour wasn't a good experience either however my advice would be to keep an open mind and not be too strict / heart set on birth plan as very possible it could change xxx

DeliberatelyGinger · 17/12/2018 07:45

Hi @Bramble88 I’m due 27th Feb so pretty close. It’s my first too so we’re in it together

babyp160 · 17/12/2018 07:48

@Lulabell1 could you buy a cheap phone like this and put a emergency £10 credit on. (Not on the same network)

sickmumma · 17/12/2018 08:15

@Bramble88 I am also due on 28th Feb! This is my 4th baby so feel like I am pretty experienced now with birth, mine have all kind of gone the same way apart from my first who I was induced with. All I would say is have a loose idea of what you want (so I know I want to have a water birth this time if possible) but don't get too worked up on the small things and if things things change especially with your first as you don't know what to expect, how you will manage the pain or how long it will be etc. I always said I didn't want an epidural but with my first I asked for it (but by then I was 10cm so was a bit too late!) with the others however I coped just fine on gas and air. Everyone is different and it's not a competition, do whatever you can to make yourself more comfortable and relaxed as at the end of the day.

Camsie30 · 17/12/2018 08:33

@Bramble88 welcome! I had a lovely birth and am looking forward to doing it again. Hypnobirthing was the key for me, I couldn't recommend it more highly, and being clear sky what you want to happen whilst also being flexible should things take a turn. Also make sure you have the people you want in the room with you.

Lookingforadvice123 · 17/12/2018 10:06

Yakadee oh no!!! Poor little boy. I hope he gets over it soon, that's so frustrating when it was almost 48 hours later. Did anything trigger it before bed eg milk?

Since2016 ugh me! Well maybe not the same bug but I've basically been ill every single weekend in December (and at least two or three weekends in November too!). It's made me a bit sad as I usually love the Christmas weekend build up but other than DH's work kids' Christmas party (which was actually the last weekend in December) we've not done anything Christmassy with DS. At least we have this weekend coming, just hope no one is ill again!

Alicejj8x · 17/12/2018 10:35

@Since2016

Feel better soon :(
Yesss! I'm a nanny and the kids I look
After had it all
Last week it's really taken it out of them bless them they are finally on the mend a week later!! anyway yesterday evening I felt so rubbish and cold and I woke up shivering. I have a awful cough which brings up the acid reflux and then makes me feel and be sick :( unless morning sickness is back
I feel so crap been trying to avoid paracetamol too but I think if I've got to be at work all day that's the only thing that'll help. Which I would of phoned in sick :(

Yakadee · 17/12/2018 10:58

@Lookingforadvice123 - he did have a little cup of milk with a banana for supper but thought we were safe because he'd been fine all day! He hasn't been sick again since about 3:30am and has eaten a little. He's so thirsty but we're just giving him little sips as and when as don't want to go crazy. He seems OK in himself really, we're just having a film day and lots of snuggles!

@Since2016 - hate this time of year! Sickness of all kinds everywhere. Hope you get some rest and feel better soon x

Lookingforadvice123 · 17/12/2018 11:10

Oh love him Yakadee. That's so annoying. Banana should be ok for him but I would definitely avoid milk even if he seems ok. There's something about it which disturbs sickness! Hope that was the last of it now.

Yakadee · 17/12/2018 12:12

Yeah, no chance he's having any tonight! He must be on the mend, this is much less sickness than Saturday. Fingers crossed anyway - my Pjs and hair have certainly taken a beating this weekend!! Haha x

Since2016 · 17/12/2018 15:04

Thanks all. Awful night - woke up soaked in sweat several times and then shivering again. Coughing improved. In work today as I would have been persona non grata if id called in sick but defintely feeling better than I did last night!!

@lookingforadvice123 us too. We did manage a Christmas meal at a friends this wkend but last wkends plans all went in the bin. Rubbish!

powkin · 17/12/2018 19:28

Feeling very peculiar this evening, my 6pm client was a struggle. Think it is just lightheadedness. Cannot wait to get home and have dinner! Not sure I’ve eaten enough today :/. Looking forward to having a week off at Christmas although the cat has developed some weird bumps so we are worried the cattery won’t take him (cat had some tests today but might not be back by cattery Friday) AND there is a train strike on the line to my parents (MIL comes too) so sure it will be fun and games getting down to theirs!

Lulabell1 · 17/12/2018 19:36

@babyp160 I purchased a rubbish samsung it now has a giffgaff sim in and i topped up and got some freebies quit happy with my bargain and I shall call her “labour phone” better not call DP off it anytime soon he might have a heart attack!

@sickmumma yes we live on same road as the fish shop dorking road! How very strange and so close!

I have my growth scan tomorrow very excited too see what they say I feel tiny but everyone keeps telling me im massive!

twiglet · 17/12/2018 21:49

😢Sad stretch marks have begun across the bottom of my bump! I know there is a certain amount of genetics and my mum got them but I've been so good with bio oil everyday.

I'm gutted and know they are only going to get worse and more angry Sad My DH is trying to cheer me up saying they are tiger stripes I just feel like crap!

Lulabell1 · 17/12/2018 22:06

@twiglet Everyone I no that has got them including myself got them about 30/32 weeks i have them from DD but they are hardly visable now but was red and purple massive big stripes when pregnant with her so they do go! I dont beleive in any creams oils helping if your skins not stretchy it just happenes! Very sweet of your other half saying that they dont bother my parner neither!!

twiglet · 17/12/2018 22:21

Thanks @Lulabell1 I had just hoped that they wouldn't appear as made it to 32+5 I had some on my thighs from a growth spurt as a teenager and was self conscious about them for years hence wishing to escape them.

I do look like someone who has shoved a beach ball up their jumper very bump heavy and measured at the top of the 32 week line at my 32 week appointment so I have a big baby.

babyp160 · 17/12/2018 22:58

@Lulabell1 lovely labour phone will be your saviour!

Since2016 · 18/12/2018 05:10

Well done @lulabell1 glad you are sorted.

@twiglet ah love I could have written your post with DD1. I was SO pleased to have not gotten any and almost overnight around 30 weeks... honestly - you won’t notice once baby is here. I still wear (high waisted) bikinis and once you lose the weight they’re honestly not as noticeable. Oil does jack all tbh - if you’re going to get them you will. Thankfully I’ve so far escaped the hereditary varicose veins - now they are awful!

I feel hideous. Felt better at work yesterday and slowly declined all afternoon. Have been coughing / sweating / shivering all night, massively dehydrated no matter what I drink and just been sick from coughing. Despite being almost 100% sure I’ll get my ELCS agreed I have my consultant appt today so am anxious. Could have done with a decent nights sleep.

Added to which I’ve been feeling so unwell and coughing so much I’ve hurt my side and unusually, feeling quite anxious it’ll have harmed the baby. I know she’s fine It’s just anxiety but I could do without it.

Please let this be the last hideous night of this!

Yakadee · 18/12/2018 06:19

@Since2016 - what kind of cough is it? I know when my son's bad we use a humidifier in his room and it really does help.

Also, could you try some of those things you put in your drinks to help with your dehydration? (Sorry can't remember what they're called?).

Coughs are just awful, I really feel for you. I'm sure baby is fine though.

My consultant appointment was great - no argument whatsoever. Mine went through my previous labour notes paragraph by paragraph (almost as if she was checking everything was done right by the hospital) and talked me through everything. She really listened to everything I had to say and wasn't even the slightest bit pushy - she said from the start it was my decision.
I'm sure you've done your homework but just made sure you've read up on the risks as they'll go through these with you (I found nhs to be useful).

Good luck but I'm sure you won't need it xxx

Since2016 · 18/12/2018 06:39

Thanks @yakadee I think I’m also stressed about work which isn’t helping. It’s a productive cough which combined with asthma is just awful. Will have a look at those sachets thanks - just feeling rough!

I’ve got some notes to talk to and am going to insist on seeing the consultant rather than a reg as I want the decision maker in the room. Hope they have my previous notes!

Yakadee · 18/12/2018 07:25

@Since2016 - they had every single comment since I went to hospital so sure that they will. I saw the consultant midwife. I know what you mean, pointless if you can't get the answer today. Just a note though, they didn't book my actual section in at this appointment i have another on 4th Jan x

Since2016 · 18/12/2018 08:07

Thanks @yakadee no I’m entirely expecting them not to book until 36 weeks so Jan, but a decision today. What I do not want is to have the reg have to go out and consult and come back in.

Everyone I’ve spoken to and the midwives I’ve seen is convinced it will be fine - if I’m honest part of me is dreading having to relive / recount DD’s birth - I’ve never really dealt with it.
