I do not have Facebook, but I’ve tried expressing and half formula too, but tonight I’ve tried to express and nothing is coming out apart from a tiny bit and blood and my boobs feel like they are going to burst. I want to BF badly but it’s so so painful I sat with ice packs on them last night crying. I don’t know what to do:(

Amelia - breasts sore or “ just”nipples? (I appreciate if you’ve not fed tonight your breasts will be sore anyway, but I’m asking about the pain from the feeding itself)
Can you examine your nipples carefully and look for any cuts opening up or any sore spots? Are you using lansinoh?

Engorgement - if you can’t feed due to pain you’re going to get engorged. Can you hand express if the pump isn’t working for you? Potentially you may be able to latch the baby in a different position with less pain

Feeding - extreme nipple pain suggests a latch issue and/or a tongue tie. Can you afford to get a lactation consultant to come out to your house? Can help you find one nearby if you want toPM me your postcode

Healing nipples - lansinoh on all the time. Fresh air as much as possible. Medela hydrogel nipple pads will speed up healing so send somebody to get some ASAP. You can take paracetamol and ibuprofen to help with pain. Keep up with the cold compresses for engorgement but take these off 20 mins before feeding/expressing as they’ll make it harder to get the milk flowing

Sorry this is short/abrupt answer - trying to get (older) child back to sleep. Happy to chat via pm x

Also - if you can’t feed or express call your midwife ASAP and get them out for help in the short term

Aw Ameliaclem congratulations on your baby and I hope the feeding side takes a turn for the better asap.
Balalala congratulations to you too!
I'm now 39 weeks and a day, had excruciating lower back pain on Friday night and thought maybe labour was on it's way but nope. My bump is rock hard and my rib pain is back worse than ever. Also heartburn is rife so still popping my ranitidine pills. I'm not able to do much other than shuffle about the house and have to keep lying down to ease the rib pain. May sound silly but, might all the lying down delay his arrival? Not using gravity to my advantage as it were. Or is he just not ready yet?

Oh @Ameliaclem I hope you've had a better day with the feeding, it's such a tough thing to do when you're already hormonal - you're doing a great job no matter what you do! X

@Athers666 I am with you on the back pain/ contractions thing. Have been getting them in my back roughly every 10 minutes since Thursday and it's waking me up but they are no stronger or closer together, so am at a loss! My trust won't see me in day assessment as I'm now past 37 weeks but triage (understandably!) won't see me until I'm sure it's labour so I have nowhere to get checked! I've also been wondering if all the time I'm spending lying down isn't helping... but what are we meant to do when everything else is uncomfy?!

I’ve been combination feeding since Friday night to help my pain. The nipples were cracked badly and bleeding. I have been pumping and using nipple shields which have been agony just to keep it flowing as boobs were so big and enlarged. Literally sat with ice packs on them at night crying with the pain! Woke up this morning to them leaking down me so shoved baby straight on each one for 20 mins with a shield! - it is still painful but just about bearable and pain has subsided today without my nipples sticking to anything! Will continue with combination feeding til they are fully recovered but very scared to breast feed without a nipple shield ever again! midwife coming tomorrow will get her to check my feeding, but he is a lazy feeder so I think I’ve let him hang off them which has caused the issue! :( thanks everybody for the advice and help

FYI anybody having c sections I am 4 days post now and can stand up straight! Amazed at how quick I’ve recovered but key is to move often otherwise does get very stiff!

1 more question - sorry to bombard. Sterilising - says after 6 hours you should re sterilise? Is this a golden rule? Even if bottles and dummies are in a sealed sterlisered box? - and with dummies do you replace every few hours even if it hasn’t touched anything other than the air?

@kaytees it's rubbish isn't it? Im on my back again as I write this. The baby has obviously decided that he is going to stay until at least the end of his tenancy I think despite the midwife saying she thought he'd be arriving early!

My little one is finally here! Little Elliot James made an appearance 9 days overdue. I was booked in for a sweep and mentioned that I hadn’t felt him move much that day. I was sent in for monitoring which was fine and when I had the sweep they found I was already 4cm dilated so suggested breaking my waters to see if that would speed things up just in case there was a problem. Well it certainly did speed things up and he was born 1.5 hours later with only 5 mins of pushing. It was a crazy, intense experience but overall a very positive one which is such a relief as I had a really traumatic delivery with my first. We are both doing well and back at home. I had a small 2nd degree tear due to his fast delivery but seems to be healing well and I’m feeling great if a bit tired! Hope everyone is well

@0lgaDaPolga congratulations - and that sounds like a great second time round experience, I'm glad it all went so well! He's beautiful.

@Athers666 how are you getting on? I decided to do errands today hoping that all the walking would bring on something, so far all it's given me is a seized up back to go with my tightenings 🙄

@kaytees Still got rib pain and feeling rubbish. Managed to do one laundry load and empty the dishwasher and then had to go and sleep! Getting soooo depressed. No signs still of the little cheeky chops arriving yet. Can't remember if I've said already but I do have a growth scan tomorrow so maybe they can tell me how far engaged he is now.

Athers666 · 11/12/2018 17:18

All was good at growth scan, been discharged from consultant care now and just have to wait for him to arrive!

@Athers666 woo hoo! So glad it was all ok - do you feel a little better now?

I ended up in for monitoring this morning after baby was very quiet - he naturally wriggled around so much as soon as the trace went on. They were really worried about how high his heart rate was for ages and I had to talk to various consultants about what we would do if we needed to deliver today but thankfully he stabilised and they let me home. So tired!

@kaytees Oh that sounds scary, glad you're ok! Hopefully it wont happen again. Let's get these babies out already!

Hello all, I'm new to this thread (and late to the party!)
I was due on the 10th Dec so currently 3 days overdue and desperately googling /searching mumsnet for reassurance.

I have a m/w appointment today and sweep booked for 17th. I'm terrified of being induced as I've heard things happen much quicker and your body has no time to get used to the pain- not ideal as planning a water birth with just G&A!
Has anyone had a positive experience with induction?

Loved reading all your posts and hearing about the babies that have come, makes me feel more excited rather than scared so thank you for that!

Hello everyone - just a quick note to say our baby has arrived! No name yet but 8lb and very happy and healthy. 😊

@Morgan my birth plan totally went out the window - I was induced after reporting reduced fetal movement on sunday, treated with Propess and was on labour ward from then on. Propess took 24 hours to work and then things happened VERY quickly from then on - about five hours to baby arriving, and I needed no more gels or the drip. I would keep a completely open mind on the pain relief options. Take it one step at a time and listen to your midwives. Do whatever is right for you at the time.

Good luck everyone with your deliveries!!

@Morgan2018 welcome to the group Hun.
@kaytees that does sound scary. The thing I really like about being on maternity leave now is that I feel like I can keep an eye on and concentrate on Baby’s movements a lot more.
@Athers666 fantastic news about your scan.
@AGirlinLondon Congratulations!!!! Another with reduced movements though. That’s the thing that scares me about going overdue. Surely baby is just safer out then in at this stage. So pleased it all went quickly for you after the induction. And that he’s feeding well. What a bonus. Hope your feeling good in yourself too 😊 x x
