I had my 12 week scan this morning - I think I may be one of the last 🙈

Baby was very still for the measurements, then (after I emptied my bladder), they started jumping up and down like a dolphin, which was incredible to see. I can't believe how clear the pictures are on the monitor as you're watching! It's so much fun to see!

We were thinking about finding out, but DH has changed his mind and is adamant he wants s surprise. He comes from a family of boys, so I'm just going to assume it's a boy.

So we've just had the gender scan, and the nub techs were right! It's a BOY!

So happy, although when they were scanning we could see the cord wrapped around the neck (you can kinda see it in this pic) which made me worry but it seemed to free itself a few minutes later, apparently that happens quite a lot in the womb.

Hope everyone is doing well

@LauraLovesLuke that must mean you are due June 30th right?

@fee1234 that is a super clear picture - hello little boy!

LauralovesLuke · 19/12/2018 20:53

@fee1234 gorgeous picture!! So detailed!

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut I thought so - but they've re-dated me to 25th June - so 5 days earlier than previously thought! I'm 13 weeks instead of 12 which probably explains why I was showing a bit earlier too.

Bigonesmallone3 · 19/12/2018 22:55

@fee1234
Wow what a great picture!
Gorgeous lil man 💙

stellarfox · 20/12/2018 06:51

Aww great scans! @fee1234 what percentage chance did they give you for boy?

I’ve started trying to sleep on my sides only now that I’m 16 weeks but it’s so uncomfortable I wake up loads during the night! Is anyone else doing this yet? I’ve read mixed things about when to start avoiding sleeping on your back.

toomanyflatwhites · 20/12/2018 07:18

@stellarfox I asked a pregnancy yoga teacher about this last week as also, in yoga, you are not supposed to continue resting flat on your back after a certain point and I couldn't remember when it was (I don't do much pregnancy yoga, mostly continue with my regular yoga practice with modifications so thought I'd check with an expert!).
She said that actually it's really individual and while the advice is to lay on your side (usually from 3rd trimester) that some people feel fine whereas others it just feels wrong. So - granted, this isn't medical advice!! - I plan to go with this, and do what feels right for me.

coastergirl · 20/12/2018 07:31

I feel like crap. My grandad died last night. We were prepared but then the end came quickly and I didn't get there 😢 Then my little boy decided not to sleep last night. Up several times and now asleep in my bed. He had a rough day at nursery yesterday. Apparently he was an emotional wreck and struggling with the younger ones. Doesn't bode well for a baby sibling!

The exhaustion in this pregnancy is really getting to me. I wasn't like this last time. It's all-consuming. 12 weeks yesterday and hoping it will improve soon. I've got my scan tomorrow.

Sorry for the big old moan.

toomanyflatwhites · 20/12/2018 07:35

Oh @coastergirl you are allowed to moan....so sorry to hear about your grandad and everything else. Hope you can rest a bit or do something nice in the next few days? I know this time of year if pretty relentless for most of us though so that's probably a silly suggestion!

Curlywurly3 · 20/12/2018 08:05

@coastergirl sorry to hear about your grandad :( xx

annihall · 20/12/2018 10:01

@coastergirl sorry for your loss :(

@stellarfox I started sleeping on my side, even try to stick to the left side as that's what my midwife told me. But I can't sleep properly because my shoulder starts hurting and I roll back to my back during the night. I feel really bad about it but it's not uncomfortable at all so far so I'm thinking it can't be that bad for me and the baby really?

KoalasAteMyHomework · 20/12/2018 10:08

@coastergirl I'm so sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, its always hard, but I remember Christmas being so hard when I lost a Grandparent at that time of year. You moan all you want! Hope the next few days are a bit easier and you get some sleep!

Reastie · 20/12/2018 10:42

Coastergirl I’m sorry. It’s always tough whether it’s expected or not. I hope you get some sleep tonight.

Stellar my logic is if it feels ok on your back it’s ok (disclaimer this is my opinion and could be wrong). Last time I slept on my left side from the very start as I was one of those people that read ever book and tried to do everything right but I’m sure I didn’t need to. This time I’m staying on my back as long as possible as I remember the last few months of pg I was desperate to lie on my back and I couldn’t and it was one of the things I really missed. I can still lie on my back but it just doesn’t quite feel right. I can’t explain why and I can’t pinpoint it but I don’t tend to stay on my back for long periods as I become uncomfortable in that position.

Cant remember if I said but due date has been moved forward due to scan to 24th June so I’m wondering how far before that the csection will be booked for.

Those who have had a planned csection, how does it work? Do you go to hospital first thing in the morning and just wait until it’s your turn on the list for the day? Or do you come in at another point in the day if you’re having it later in the day? Do you get a bed whilst waiting to have the csection or do you sit for hours in a waiting room waiting for them to be free? I am clueless on this as I had an emergency csection last year.

Torsz · 20/12/2018 11:09

@coastergirl so sorry for your loss xx

Congratulations to those who've had recent scans - lovely seeing the pics ☺️

And I'm a side sleeper naturally which is fortunate - although I am struggling to sleep generally at the moment!

Littleray84 · 20/12/2018 11:22

@reastie I think elective sections are booked at 39 weeks or near as possible dependant on the reasoning for the section . I've had an emergency section and an elective, my elective was at 38+6 last time sou they could fit me in. This time I've been told I could attempt a vbac even after 2 sections 😱and have been booked in for a birth options chat. I think I'll still be opting for a c Section I'm terrified of the idea!!!

Littleray84 · 20/12/2018 11:24

@reastie also as far as i remember, You turn up to the anti- natal ward in the morning the day your booked in and just wait until your taken down. Emergencies obviously take precedence so you just wait your turn.

Reastie · 20/12/2018 11:26

Littleray I had a failed induction last time and I’m convinced my body refused to go into labour as I was so petrified of it. They tried for 5 days before they gave up! But because I was in the hospital already I already had a bed etc so I’m not familiar with logistics of waiting around/whether you get a time for your csection (which presumably could change if there are emergencies in front of you?).

Got my 20 week scan booked for beginning of February.

Reastie · 20/12/2018 11:28

So littleray did you know your order for where you were in the queue for the csection? Presumably if you’re later in the day you can eat until later than having it first thing and not have to fast a while night and the day waiting around all day

Kescilly · 20/12/2018 11:29

@coastergirl I’m so sorry for your loss.

@stellarfox I think it’s from the third trimester. Do you have a pregnancy pillow? Putting a pillow behind your back could help stop you from rolling over. I used to sleep on my stomach but it’s terrible for your back, so after a lot of effort I am now a side sleeper.

I had an appointment at the hospital and was given a prescription, but they neglected to tell me it could only be filled at the hospital. I feel stupid for not noticing. I don’t drive here yet, so now I need to wait and see if my husband can get home from work early and take me back. Plus we will have to pay for parking.

Reastie · 20/12/2018 11:30

Sorry, I’m very nervous about this as last time I had nausea throughout which never went and I had to eat regularly. Because I had an emergency csection I never had to fast for the full time as if it were planned. I’m worried I’ll be feeling really sick and horrible if I can’t gake my medication because of being nill by mouth and the symptoms being flailed up by not eating. The thought of having to sit around all day waiting for my turn having not eaten since the previous evening and knowing how sick it’ll make me is scaring me more than the csection itself Blush .

Reastie · 20/12/2018 11:31

Kescilly that’s really annoying. Can your dh circle the car park in the car whilst you go in and get the prescription so you at least don’t have to pay parking?

JBCG · 20/12/2018 11:31

@coastergirl so sorry to hear - hope you and your family are okay x

I'm thinking of an elective c section as well - so keen to find out how that all works!

I have my scan today at 2.40 .. hopefully we have a slightly more cooperative baby this week who is willing to get into position to be measured!!

Kescilly · 20/12/2018 11:38

@Reastie can you speak to someone about your fears so that they can explain the process better? You don’t need to apologize for being nervous. I’m terrified of giving birth and would love to have a c-section, but I don’t think that will happen here.

Unfortunately there is nowhere to stand or circle or anything without paying. It’s not a huge amount, I just feel stupid for wasting time and money like that.

I’m also a bit sad as my mom is coming to visit in Jan for less than a week, and I’m have several appointments during that time. I rarely get to see her and wish I didn’t have to take the time to run around to all these extra appointments. I’m worried that I won’t be able to see her at all the day she leaves.

Littleray84 · 20/12/2018 11:51

I think I'd been told to fast from midnight and arrive around 7am to the ward. It was 11 years ago now so things are a little hazy. I wasnt aware of where I was on the list but there were only 2 of us booked in for an elective that morning. To put a spin on things I'd started in labour myself that night (early hours) so was taken down first to theatre, as they walked me down my waters broke just outside the anaesthetic room🙈.
I think most electives are planned for the morning, where there are more staff about so you shouldn't have to be nil by mouth all day.

Plus sides of having an elective for me where that I was well prepared for baby and I had a much faster recovery than my previous emergency section because i hadn't had the exhausting 24 hour labour prior, failing to progress from 9cm for hours and resulting in fetal distress and the mad panic for an emergency section. It was a much calmer controlled positive experience. I'm really hoping for that again! I feel like a first time mum again its so daunting, my older 2 are 17 and 11 years old now. I'm due on the 18th June so am expecting a section would be carried out around the 11th.

Reastie · 20/12/2018 12:06

Little I think big age gaps are ace! There’s 10 years between my sister and I and we got on really well and I looked after her a lot and played with her etc and we didn’t fight like we might have done if we were closer in age. I bet you’ll find the older dc very handy to have helping! I’m feeling slightly daunted by things like going back to the nappies and sleepless nights after so long, especially being that much older! Thanks for the csection info, I’ll have to start writing a list of questions for the consultant I see to discuss it and I’m seeing an AN MH nurse because of anxiety when pg so hopefully she will help calm my fears. You had to get there at 7? So they started sections early, that’s good.
