@PaulHollywoodsSexGut do you want me to add you on too if you're also 10th June? Sorry I can't quite remember - will this be your second child?

Fabuluce · 06/12/2018 22:59

Wow @lstef amazing news!

Curlywurly3 · 07/12/2018 04:26

@istef that's wonderful news! Must have been a shock! I have twin brothers and the bond they have is something I can't even describe, even all these years later living their own lives, the are so so close.

Can they tell if they are identical or non identical?

I couldn't be any more awake.. It may as well be 4.26 in the afternoon! 🙄

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 07/12/2018 05:25

It’s my third @toasterstrudle

Don’t worry about adding me to the list though; I’m a bit weird like that Grin

lstef · 07/12/2018 05:30

aww Curly thats lovely to hear.. The sonographer said they would definitely be non-identical BUT further research on NHS and Tamba says they can be either (strange that she didn't know that)- we are finding out sex so if theyre both boys/girls we won't know until birth or beyond and if one of each then non-identical ha. They have a placenta and sac each which is the lowest risk twin pregnancy acc to what I've read and what she said.

I was in such shock that now I'm at home I have more questions and so wish I could see the heartbeats again (and ask if they are both strong hb's!). Gonna be a long wait til next scan but 6 week wait instead of 8! (next one at 19w and I'm 13w3d by the scan, 12+4 by my calculations).

cant sleep cos still wired! So tired though lol. chill day today I think! zzzzz

will post pics later :)

Fabuluce · 07/12/2018 07:01

Ugh another night of being awake from 3am onwards. Zzzz. Damn you insomnia. My little boy was sick at bedtime so I've been in with him all night to make sure he was ok as he just couldn't settle. Poor little guy. He woke up at 5:45 (lie-in) so DH took him and gave me another hour in bed. Phew. But zzzz.

Fabuluce · 07/12/2018 07:10

That's funny @lstef I thought identical twins were in the same sac with the same placenta? Shows how much I know! 😂 not surprised you're in shock - I expect you'll have lots of questions for your next appt!

Reastie · 07/12/2018 07:28

Laura that was me the teacher. I’m a bit confused as mat leave info says we accrue holiday pay whilst on mat leave so lots of people seem to return to work but as their accrued holiday so not actually get to work until after that’s over but I don’t know how that works as a teacher as we don’t get to pick our holidays! I don’t we don’t get paid for long schoolmholidays but we must get paid for the minimum legal (is it something like 5 weeks). Hmm, another question for the union (who were useless and didn’t know much last time).

Istef twins? Wow, that’s amazing news, what a surprise! Two names to choose now!

hellotoyellow · 07/12/2018 07:41

Lovely to see the scans - and massive congratulations @Istef! Twins must have been such a shock!!

I had my harmony result and nuchal earlier in the week and am having a boy with an EDD of June 10. Was a bit shocked, think we were somehow sure it would be a girl and having the sex makes it all seem much more real! Due date twins @PaulHollywoodsSexGut and @Istef! Then had my booking appointment and NHS dating scan so the baby's been scanned a lot.

stellarfox · 07/12/2018 07:48

Congratulations on all the scans and the twins, how exciting!

Thanks for the replies re telling work or not yet. I think I will hold off for a couple of weeks and tell them either right before or after Christmas. I’m not too fussed announcing on social media anyway so maybe we just won’t at all (have work friends on there)!

coastergirl · 07/12/2018 08:08

Congratulations on the twins @lstef! My friend has 17 month old twin boys and she had a similar experience with the doctors and sonographers giving them incorrect info about whether they would be identical or not. Like you she found out that unless they were one of each, they wouldn't know until they were born. They ended up paying for genetic testing after birth as they were so curious (they were pretty alike at birth but completely different sizes so hard to tell) and now we laugh about it because it couldn't be more obvious now that they are not identical.

I feel like I'm having the longest pregnancy ever. Still only ten weeks and just so exhausted. The antenatal depression I had last time has started to kick in too so I've had my meds upped. I need a bump and movement and to know the sex to make it feel more real lol. So impatient.

Congratulations on the twins @istef what a surprise. Twins run in my family and being older the cans were higher for me so went with open mind yesterday though just one very active baby.

@coastergirl sorry you are struggling a bit but glad you can get support and hopefully the meds will help Flowers.

JBCG · 07/12/2018 08:36

Had my scan today and confirmed I'm 11+1 so EDD is 27th June. A very wriggly baby!! Didn't stay still long enough to get a really good picture so she gave us them for free.

toasterstrudle · 07/12/2018 08:56

Fab scan @JBCG !

@PaulHollywoodsSexGut Aw lovely! I can't believe how many in our thread are on number 3! I would have loved 3 but I think we'll be stopping at 2, DH is not keen on 3 (although he is also anti-vasectomy and knows I don't get on with hormonal contraceptives so won't be taking any - crossing fingers for a happy accident down the line Grin)

Napssavelives · 07/12/2018 10:06

Blood results are back . 1 in 141051 for Edwards and Para’s and 1in 17028 for downs. So relieved :) everything looks great!

Curlywurly3 · 07/12/2018 10:09

They are great results @napssavelives! I have my 12 weeks scan and bloods next Thursday when I'll be 13 weeks. My midwife didn't take any bloods at booking in so I haven't had any blood tests yet! At least I've got Iceland to occupy my mind and then my scan as soon as I'm back:) x

Curlywurly3 · 07/12/2018 10:15

@istef I have twin brothers, twin cousins and twin aunties. DP was relieved when we had our first scan and we saw one! I think two would have been lovely but of course happy with my little bean:) I was also under the impression non identical twins have their own placenta's. I know my brothers who are identical only had the one.. good job they are good at sharing! X

toasterstrudle · 07/12/2018 10:41

@Napssavelives great odds! You get far more specific results than I did with DS (in jan 2017). Were those the nhs tests? I'm in Scotland so appreciate different trusts will do different tests, but wondering if they've got more specific since DS.

hexagon01 · 07/12/2018 11:20

Ahh congrats to everyone for their good news!

I had my scan this morning - very wriggly baby and my due date has been moved forward a bit to 16th June which is the day before my birthday! Currently waiting in hospital as the midwives couldn’t get any blood from me so I’ve been sent to the “people who can get blood from a stone”.

WeeBean · 07/12/2018 11:45

Congrats @istef twins!! So exciting! Lovely to see all these scan pictures too.

I'm 12 weeks today, had a day off from vomiting yesterday and really thought it was a turning point but I'm back to being sick again today. I've had 3 days in the last 44 where I haven't vomited despite the tablets, seriously ready for this part to be over!!! I've got my booking in and scan next Thursday and I'm already nervous, would be really lovely to be feeling better and able to go out for dinner after if all is well.

diamondbutterfly · 07/12/2018 11:50

Lovely to see all the scan photos!!

Did someone mention something about a Facebook group?

Someone in here mentioned they were getting a touran. Does the middle row fit 2 high backed booster seats and 1 iso fix? Of course it will depend on the booster seats. Trying to work out what we will need. Confused.

Current car focus estate, I don't think we'll fit an extra car seat but I love the boot space! So easy for the chameleon.

lstef · 07/12/2018 11:55

Thanks all! :) have been restless since 5am, sleepy now and completely baffled by it all! My head has gone to all the practical things that suddenly changed overnight - double buggy, new car, two car seats/cots, possibly even moving as not sure I can get out of my flat with two babies! we will manage somehow though!

@Curlywurly3 - yes, all non-identical twins have separate placentas and sacs, and a third of identical twins do (this happens if the zygote splits completely within 4 days of conception). The rest either share a placenta with a sac each or share both placenta and sac! All new info to me!!

@coastergirl - love that story about how it became obvious later on. We haven't talked about it (me and DP) but I'm not bothered about genetic testing atm- if theyre both the same sex then it will be fun to see how they turn out.

Here is the picture - she took a pic of each twin separately and joined them together - apparently they are now too big to get them nicely together in one shot - i have ones with both in but cant easily make out whats what!

ooo also - by LMP I am 12+5 today. I asked for measurements and she said 65mm and 69mm. Then when I got the report it says 68mm and 73mm - dating 13+3 (yest). I looked at the graph and by the original measurements she gave me I fall into roughly 12+3/4. so the 3-4mm diff between verbal and written measurements puts the due date a week earlier (by ov date EDD is 17th June). This is just a curiosity and I'm fine to go with the final measurements as it means I get to do the next scan in 6 weeks - but I think the first measurements she gave are the correct ones. I was tracking temperature/ovulation and sex and it's unlikely they were conceived a week earlier. Maybe next scan they will even out. But anywho I am just so pleased and grateful they are both growing ok and at the rate expected so far, that theyre not measuring tiny (they might even be big for their age? if second measurements are correct?).

Just cannot get my head around talking about twins and babies plural! eeeeek!

lstef · 07/12/2018 12:01

ooo and @Curlywurly3 and someone else (fee?) going to Iceland - I am Icelandic! It's a beautiful country. I've been in UK 16.5 years and go visit occasionally (some family live there). Enjoy your trips!

toomanyflatwhites · 07/12/2018 12:06

Yep I think I'm ready for the Facebook group too now - who is it who can add us please?
And @lstef I'm not surprised, it's a huge amount to get your head around and not even 24 hours since you found out! My colleague is pregnant with twins (her first) and only 3 or 4 weeks ahead of me, it's so funny hearing her talking about "the babies" Hmm
