emj - i'm crawling too as it helps to take the weight of the baby off my cervix! i do pregnancy yoga and crawling alternatives include braking position - called cos it slows labour - sit on knees with knees apart and toes together and lie forward resting head in hands, keep bum in air and back straight. rest for as long as your comfortable but come up slowly as may feel a bit dizzy. also cat position - on hands and knees puts baby in a hammock and generally leaning forward helps (try sitting backwards on a chair and prop with cushions)!

toadstool - so sorry to hear you're in hospital! It must be horrible to be dealing with this and pregnancy. I wish you a speedy recovery xx

helenelisabeth - welcome

HIWBB - i like the thread name! Certainly don't envy your lack of kitchen! But agree that bribery goes a long way!

Sorry about grammar - keep being distracted!!!!!

LoopyLouLisa · 19/07/2007 12:20

Have just bought a buggy off ebay and I'm already wondering if it's the right one for me. I am just sooooooooooooooo fussy and I've had 8 with ds in 17 months cos I can't find my perfect one. I've bought the cosatto duo traveller but I really didn't want this year's colours, hence buying one from ebay. I was getting panicky cos section is 6 weeks tomorrow

MrsBumblebee · 19/07/2007 12:38

I really ummed and aahed about buggies as well. Have gone for M'care Trenton Deluxe. It's quite big and heavy, but looks like a very cosy and comfortable ride (and I just love the soft carrycot that comes with it!). Someone told me that full on travel systems like that are great, as long as you resign yourself to the fact that you'll also want to buy a lightweight pushchair after a few months. So I hope that's true!

Toadstool - so sorry to hear about your experience! I hope they damn well start treating you nicely.

LoopyLouLisa · 19/07/2007 12:46

Hi MrsB, I thought that as well but I have reverted to my old faithful graco travel system (my first pushchair) as I find it so much sturdier than the lightweight strollers, and I can lean on it zimmerframe-style! I think the buggy's weight only becomes a real issue if you have hills/steps to negotiate on a regular basis. As far as I know I can't get a car seat to fit this buggy but I'm going to use ds's old one anyway, maybe with a strap to secure it onto this buggy. In an ideal world I would be buying a carrycot style buggy, think like the really old fashioned silvercross type pram from decades ago, but alas I don't think ds will be walking alongside for a while yet and he's still a bit young even for a buggy board. I really envy all of you being able to choose from sich a wide range of single prams. I can't even find a shop locally that stock doubles to see them in person before buying one xx

emj23 · 19/07/2007 16:50

LOL LoopyLouLisa, you haven't scared me, don't worry! It's always good to hear other people's experiences of these situations so you can think about what to do carefully, it's better than reading it in a book or something, I'd rather have an honest view of what might happen, honest! So, thank you and Hopeitwontbebig as well.

Chattyhan, thanks so much for the advice on ways to sit that will help, much more useful than what MW told me, she just told me to crawl around without explaining why it would help, so I'm really grateful.

I really like the new thread title as well.

dal21 · 19/07/2007 17:16

Defo yes to the new thread title! Looks as though it is going to absolutely chuck it down! Looking at the weather for tmrw - doubt i am going to be able to paint my windows! Oh well, since everything inside is done- looks like I have to spend tomorrow morning with my feet up! Ha ha!

MrsFish · 19/07/2007 17:25

Its been lovely and sunny in derbyshire today with a temp of 26 degrees, its now clouding over though and I suspect rain

dal21 · 19/07/2007 19:20

I have never seen so many people be happy at this time of year with so much rain! I do feel terribly selfish! But not enough that i want it to get hot!

canadianmum · 19/07/2007 19:52

toadstool - you poor thing, please keep us all up to date with all of your news, what a bloody awful thing to have happened while you are pregnant!

HIWBB - LOVE the thread title and glad you are feeling better today. Good luck for your DH, hope he recovers beautifully .

Emj - was speaking to a friend today and both her los were OP (back to back) but turned just before the birth. Not sure how common that is, but worth hoping for if nothing else works!

Feeling a bit weirdly envious of those of you with low blood pressure. Mine is rising and I now need to have it checked weekly, they are obviously worried that my pre-eclampsia may return. Bit of a pain as I have to take my boys with me to appts now as they are out of school. Not great for my BP!! I actually feel completely fine but I guess the machines know best.....

Pennypops · 20/07/2007 14:27

Hi all,

Been out for a couple of days - will be commencing work on an ark very shortly. It's CHUCKING it down.

Toadstool - you poor thing, what a nightmare this must be. I hope the NHS hospitality perks up for you. (((((big hugs))))))

Helenelisabeth - welcome to the largest virtual antenatal group in the world!

Hopey - loving the thread title. I hope dh is still resting up (well, as much as he will do anyway by the sound of it!) and I hope the kitchen project goes well!

Dal - We have bought The Baby Whisperer as well as we had to read it for NCT class and it seemed such a nice book. I really liked her general tone of voice - nice but not too bossy!! By the way have you started your hypnobirthing stuff yet? I bought a set of CD's to practice with and I am doing the preganancy relaxation one every day and its really making a difference to my frame of mind. I feel really positive about everything and really not frightened about anything.

The baby is still kicking the living daylights out of my ribs but somehow it just doesn't upset me that much anymore. Am prob just becoming accustomed to it!

Hope you all manage to avoid the rain today! xx

dal21 · 20/07/2007 14:56

Hi PP - i do the first hypnobirthing session this sunday. am hoping aside from helping me stay positive, it also increases relaxation! Will let you know how i get on - am really looking forward to it.

Had such a stressful few hours this am! Booked addison lee yesterday to take mum to station - heavens opened in london, so they start prioritising account bookings over cash bookings. Long story short, spent 20 mins refusing to put phone down and eventually they sent a car! mum made the train by the skin of her teeth!
Sorry rant over! Now relaxing for the rest of the day and looking forward to a chilled weekend!

Pennypops · 20/07/2007 15:16

Dal, rant away! We all have our moments!! x

Pennypops · 20/07/2007 15:16

And good luck on Sunday - looking forward to hearing about it.

amyclaramum · 20/07/2007 16:44

Mrs B - how did your appt go at Kings today ? Hope all is ok with you and the LO!

Hi to everyone else - hope you have a fab weekend !

MrsBumblebee · 20/07/2007 17:24

Hi amyclaramum, that's so sweet of you to remember. Just got back, as it happens. And very pleased to report that everything is fine !! Quite weird experience (five doctors in the room, all very high tech and formal, not at all like a normal antenatal appointment), but at the end the cardiologist said that there's nothing at all wrong with the heart. The irregular heartbeat will almost certainly go away by itself either before or shortly after he's born. Doesn't even affect the birth, apparently, though they'll probably keep a closer eye on the baby's heartbeat than normal.

Such a relief!! I can now go back to being excited about everything. Bought some newborn nappies to celebrate .

Hope all is well with everyone else, and thanks for being so supportive.

dal21 · 20/07/2007 17:36

Mrs B what great great news! you must be so happy and relieved! Have a sparkling water to celebrate!

My glider chair just arrived - soooo comfy! Methinks will be spending lots of time in it!

MrsFish · 20/07/2007 17:58

Great news MrsB

Chattyhan · 20/07/2007 18:29

Pleased to hear all is well MrsB i got soaked this morning with DS - he loved it though and wanted to walk through the puddles shame his wellies weren't longer! Half the shops flooded and i couldn't get what i wanted done! But it was different!!!! Tesco this afternoon was even worse - DS hadf a tantrum all the way round so i had to pull the trolley from the other end to avoid being kicked in the bump! Came home with £60 of food but can't actually make any meals!! I must start shopping online so it's burgers in finger rolls for dinner!!!! Sorry why i am having another child???

EmLouT · 20/07/2007 19:24

Hi all - hope no one is suffering too much from all this rain.

Just thought I would pop in for a catch up before DH gets home. It's my birthday tomorrow and I think he has plans for tonight since we can't go out tomorrow because we have to stay in to supervise the plasterer.

HIWBB - I can really sympathise about the kitchen. Mine is also being ripped out next week and I have to empty it this weekend - these jobs always seem to take longer than you thought they would. Our kitchen people think the whole project will take about 6 weeks so, seing as I am 32 weeks at the moment, I hope they get it done in time.

Toadstool - I am so sorry to hear that you have hurt yourself - you poor thing, it sounds horrible. Try not to worry too much about the pain relief - if the codeine isn't working too well , it might be worth asking them to give you pethidine, it does nearly the same job as the morphine but is much less risky for the baby. I am thinking of you and I hope it all goes well!

Like a few of you, I am also spending as much time as possible on all fours - my baby is still breech and beginning to descend - I need to get him to move before he engages. I have found resting over the arm of the sofa on all fours is the most comfortable way to do it - it does mean that you have to stick your bum in the air though.

Hopefully the weather is going to pick up tomorrow and Sunday. Hope you all have a good weekend!

Hopeitwontbebig · 20/07/2007 22:14

MrsB, that's FANTASTIC news. I'm SO pleased for you, what a relief. It must have been very stressful for you leading up to the appointment. Yay, shop away!!

EmLouT, that's a coincidence about your kitchen! Hmm, our 'schedule is, the building work'll be finished in 2 weeks, then 1 week for kitchen fit, then granite company come and template kitchen, then however long it takes for the granite to arrive. Hoping not too long! Just think of the end result !! We'll have to compare notes as we go along. I'll maybe take some progress photos and put them on my profile. Happy Birthday for tomorrow

Chatty, sounds like you've had a fun packed day!

DH is doing really really well. Recovering much better than his op last month. SO happy.

Is anyone getting kicks in their cervix? I'm sure that's where it feels like I'm being kicked....almost painful.

hannahsaunt · 21/07/2007 09:49

Happy birthday EmLou!! Hope you have a really lovely day. You will need to get scrubbing your floors down on your knees - meant to be a great way of getting the baby into the right position.

Good news re your dh, HIWBB. Hope he continues to make good progress.

Good news for you too MrsB. I'm wondering about buying something in the Next sale today to acknowledge that we are having a new baby and the wee soul might need some things not passed down from ds1 and ds2. Actually getting any of the stuff from them involves going down to the basement and facing the enormity of the task in emptying it in advance of the building work starting...

No rain here yet but have my fingers half crossed to justify taking the boys out to a local cafe for lunch which devotes it's whole mezzanine area to children's crafts and games for 2 hours over Saturday lunch times whilst parents eat lovely food and read the paper (and it's free!!!)... Dh is working all weekend (9-9 Fri, Sat and Sun) so on sole entertainment duty. Of course, it should rain all over lunch and then be hot and sunny all afternoon (from about 3!) so we can then go to the park. Please .

MMooMar · 21/07/2007 12:47

Hi All,

Hope everyone is relaxing today as weather is dire yet again, dont mind the cold just the rain I dont like.

MrsB ,fab news now enjoy!

HIWBB ,So disapointed in you ..... was it having to take my 2.5 DS too that put you off having my dog! ,no actually they havent been that bad today ...yet! Good news on your DH,pleased for you both.

Happy birthday EmLou.

Been feeling off colour for the last few days or so.Started on Thursday, just seem to ache and stuff .I think LO has dropped as it feels like it is low and pressing on bits and pieces. Also had some dull aches in the groin area, have felt sick and had the runs!(just hope its not the onset of prem labour)just feel a bit unwell really.heres hoping its a bit of a bug.DP has moaned at me cos I told him I had been pushing DS round the garden in his car on Thursday and now he thinks I have done something ,know when you should`nt have told them something

LO is really active though,so nothing wrong there, dont really know when it sleeps cos its always moving about and sometimes gets on my nerves(sorry I know that sounds awful).

Going to go and order the pushchair tomorrow.Still undecided on the colour but it will either be the charcoal P&T`s or the orange one,as you can see not much difference .I think we will finally decide on the colour in the shop...maybe.

Anyway have a good day all.

toadstool · 21/07/2007 13:24

Afternoon, all, from an osteo ward. Feeling better for having had the op yesterday.there are now 2 old men yelling but now I have the mp3 player, it's bearable... DD managed to visit just as I was puking so big drama for her. Plenty of movements from bub, should have a scan later in the week.currently on epidural for 2 days, so what with entonox and laxatives, this is all feeling like a dry run! All the best to all, esp those with LOs engaging.xx

TinaLC · 21/07/2007 14:16

Toadstool, so nice you can email. Get better soon!

Mrs B - such good news, so pleased for you and hope one of the 5 doc's was worth looking at . My problem is I watch too many american emergency room dramas and am convinced all doctors must be vaguely attractive.

HIWBB - I am also getting kicks in the cervix. it makes me wince at the most inopportune times, like in a meeting with all men and me! The other thing that seems to be happening is whole body stretching where the head pushes on one side and the feet on the other sode. I want to shout that "I don't stretch that way" but that seems mean

Also having a kitchen fitted this weekend but will only take 4 days - you can tell we live in a tiny cottage!! Still the main aim is to get a dishwasher and microwave into the space. We have managed without one as 2 adults but I think that washing up will fall way down the list of priorities after no sleep.

Happy birthday Emlou - hope you are not being too washed out where ever you are celebrating.

My mum has just called to say that she has a pro-lapsed uterus. Not really sure what this is but she sounded in quite good spirits and seemed to think it was fixable. i couldn't talk as the dishwasher delivery turned up but pleased she sounded chirpy as it sounds painful to me.

Off to wield my dyson and try and keep on top of the dust.

dal21 · 21/07/2007 15:26

Emlou - happy birthday! how far along are you? I am just past 30 weeks and baby was breech at last presentation. I keep getting mixed messages about whether to worry about it this early - keep reading that babies can still turn easily. My obs wasnt fussed at my last appt, will talk to my midwife when i see her this week.
HIWBB - if you are getting kicks in cervix, does that mean that your LO is breech too?

Mmoomar - Sorry you aren't feeling great. I have felt off this week too. I slept til midday today (first time in MONTHS i think). Feel really lethargic but really well rested at the same time.

Hope everyone else is ok and no one is flooded. Have great weekends all!
