OK I know it's VERY early days folks but someone's got to start this thread sometime. Due date between May 4 and May 9. Any other takers?

Anyone feel like theirs is a girl or boy prawn yet?

My very good friend went to a fortune teller at the weekend who told her that a good friend of hers was expecting twins - and it seems that im the only pg friend she has!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

logic · 11/10/2004 13:47

ooh that's scary, northstar
well, I did the ring test and apparently it's a boy. I really don't care either way.

I thought it would be cheaper to have a second child because I've already got all the equipment but now my MIL is trying to get me to buy a gorgeous silver cross pram and I want a new highchair - this is a tip for first time mums actually - we bought an expensive mamas and papas highchair and basically it's a nightmare to clean. I want to get a basic wooden one.

Is anyone else finding that their sense of smell has gone weird? I put my lovely virgin vie face mask on last night and couldn't bear the smell and I used to love it!

northstar · 11/10/2004 13:56

logic i got the mama's and papa's Prima pappa highchair for ds and it was a life-saver. He was in it by 4.5 mths as it was padded and reclined and I would say it was my best buy EVER!

Is cab back from holidays yet?

How are the rest of you? I'm really m/s at the moment, had to eat ryvita all weekend

cfkch · 11/10/2004 14:25

Been off work sick for the last week and a half and slept for most of it, I've never been so exhausted.

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but with my first child I had spotting and a period. I have had a bit of spotting with this one and then a bleed on Friday (nothing major) but panicked because GP was all for sending me to hospital. Had an internal scan and everything was fine. Just wondered whether anybody else thought that now it seems you can't do anything when you are pregnant (e.g. drink etc) and the slightest twinge gets you sent to A&E!

northstar · 11/10/2004 14:32

I was actually going to ask what anyone was doing (or not doing) different due to being pg?

It was so nice 1st time round

  • not carrying heavy things (like 2.5yr olds), -getting rest (instead of being woken at 6.30am) not hoovering (floors pretty clean then - not now)

any of you made big changes yet? My biggest one would be not drinking any alcohol, but due to m/s is not even an issue

LittleB · 11/10/2004 14:57

I've been feeling a bit up and down, always tired but some days feel bad ms and other days ok, was off this morning but have come into work this afternoon, feel bad being off work pregnant as doesn't feel like I'm properly ill even if I'm feeling really rough, can't help but feel guilty. Although my boss knows and his wife has just had a baby she wasn't sick at all! Northstar, not doing much differently, trying to avoid lifting heavy things and eating habits have obviously changed, can't eat much in one go and of lots of things like bananas, roast dinners, etc. CFKCH some of the bits about not eating pate, brie, peanuts etc are hard to avoid, my parents generation tell me they didn't have to worry about this at all, just the drink! I've been trying to rest more, and I've been feeling really car sick too, so trying not to travel too far. I haven't got any boy/girl feelings yet, don't mind either way. We've discussed lots of names, but nothing certain yet, we like Joseph, Jacob and Adam for boys, Megan, Holly and Emily for girls, at the moment anyway. Has anyone seen my 'Is this normal thread' - anyone else got this?

logic · 11/10/2004 20:16

northstar - rotfl we got the prima pappa highchair too and you are right, it is great from an early age but from 10 months, ds insisted on feeding himself with no help so ours got disgustingly dirty really quickly and I found that the covers took forever to dry especially in winter!

cfkch and others - sorry that you are feeing ill. It'll get better soon I hope.

I personally ignore all of the pregnancy scares on the grounds that a) no-one will ever dare do a proper scientific experiment on pregnant women so no-one really knows the truth and b) the doctors who patronise us are always male. Funny that

Roll on 12 weeks and a big glass of wine!

Myermay, artificially feed? WTF is that supposed to mean? what a cheeky woman! I firmly believe that as long as the baby is healthy and happy then nothing else matters.

Oooh Myermay, that would really get me. The worst I heard was "Are you feeding him?" I said "yes, I find he gets very hungry if I don't" while poking the bottle in his mouth.

I've been feeling really down the past couple of days. I'm very very busy at work and don't feel justified in taking any more time off. Plus the baby we lost was due this week. I thought I would feel fine about it because I am expecting again, but actually it makes me feel worse. The mc seems so long ago, yet that is how long I have to put up with this tiredness etc. all through pg - basically it makes May seem so far away, and an impossible feat to get through. And the thought that I could be there already! DP says we just have to focus on our gorgeous son! Will also focus on scan next week.

I know myermay, thanks. He is gorgeous too (if not a little grumpy). But I still feel very tearful. Have half term off week after next. Intend to put ds in nursery and sleep for England!

logic · 12/10/2004 14:03

myermay, I have no idea why people feel they have the right to judge how you feed your child Fantastic retort though Fisil! Hope you feel better soon.

Angeliz · 12/10/2004 14:09

Hi all
Just being nosy from the due in Feb thread.
Myermay,i am planning to bottlefeed too, and funnily enough she didn't give me a lecture this time. Last time i must have had 10 different ones telling me the benifits
I KNOW they do it with good intentions but sometimes they should just leave it as OUR decision which it is!
Hope you're all well+++++++++++++

logic · 12/10/2004 14:18

I did breastfeed for 4.5 months last time but no-one mentioned beforehand that I would be in tearful agony every feed for the first 2 months. Nor did they mention that bf does not prevent colds, chest infections and excema, all things that ds had in abundance for his first year.

Saying that, I hope to bf again but this time I will introduce one bottle feed a day from the beginning and not from 2 months in when my dh forcibly made up a bottle and stuck it in ds' mouth because he couldn't bear seeing me in such a state any more.

oh dear, that doesn't sound very positive does it?

northstar · 12/10/2004 16:39

logic - i have the laziest ds ever, or maybe he's just not the independent character he should be, or aaaaaaaaaaaaagh maybe i dont clean the h/c properly OMG that cant be true - I am going to check but obviously not publish the true results - no seriously, he's 2.5now, shouldnt be that bad

Was just over in due april05, everyone's getting their scans it sounds so exciting. Who's first from here?

logic · 12/10/2004 18:54

northstar - lol my ds has a massive independent streak about some things which can be a bit tricky. I hated cleaning the h/c and really tried to put it off hence i am tempted to forget about the dried on weetabix and buy a new one. Just don't look under the seat is my tip

I should be getting a scan in 2 weeks time. I'll get the midwife to book it tomorrow...

logic · 12/10/2004 19:40

northstar - I should also point out that my ds is the messiest eater in the entire universe. Fact.

fisil · 13/10/2004 07:31

My scan is a week on Thursday (21st Oct). Can anyone beat that?

I'm officially 12 weeks now (according to LMP). But according to my scan I am 11 weeks. We are a very short family ... All will be revealed at the scan next week. Seems a life time away.

Re feeding, I will try breast feeding again, but this time I won't put up with the pain. I resent the fact that I wasn't able to hold ds for the first 2 weeks of his life, and I won't make myself go through that agony again. But this time I will realise that when people say "it's painful but you get through it" they are not referring to the kind of pain I was in, and that breastmilk shouldn't be pink and lumpy, and that should have been my warning signal!

oooooooh pink and lumpy not good
I was very lucky with ds, although he was in scbu for 7days and was in shock for the first 3 and didnt take anything (which babies are designed to do by the way). When came out to bf he just showed me what to do, it was so so easy and we never had a hint of a problem.

I bf exclusively for 9mths, obviously supplemented with solids from 6mths, and only stopped when i got pg at 9mths ( then had mc)

It does make you really tired though, and that will be more of an issue with ds running around.

fisil · 13/10/2004 12:54

Thrush in my nips & breasts and his mouth, plus that one that starts with m and is really common and you feel like you're going to die because it hurts so much, but I'm too pg to think of its name right now (and they give you anti-biotics, so the thrush gets even worse!). Every time I asked for help they asked me to get ds to latch on and then they said "oh, he's latching on fine, it just hurts at first." I'd never seen breast milk before, or talked about it with anyone, so I had no reason to suspect that it shouldn't be pink or lumpy (after all, the breastfeeding lobby are always saying that breast milk is totally different to cow's milk - lol!)

Bubu · 13/10/2004 21:22

Thanks CP3 for the link. Am about 9 weeks then so should be due about the 16th May, unless this ones the same as DS and decides to stay in for another 2 weeks!! I hope not!!

Hope everyone is feeling okay....

I've been feeling really sick but haven't thrown up yet - desperately holding onto it!!!!
