Hey all, 👋🏻

Would love to join I'm due a little boy on March the 14th! This will be our first baby 🤰🏻😁 x

Wineandchoccy · 13/11/2018 21:18

Hello @SunshineAndRainbows6 welcome Smile

SquirtlesMumAgain · 13/11/2018 21:29

You don't necessarily need Maternity bras @Kee80, but it is likely they are tight because they are too small.
The Boob or Bust calculator will let you measure yourself at home and get a starting size (www.booborbust.com). Don't bother with nursing bras yet (if you plan on breastfeeding) whatever you do, still way too early

SquirtlesMumAgain · 13/11/2018 21:31

Welcome @SunshineAndRainbows6 :)

ballanj · 13/11/2018 21:43

Hi @SunshineAndRainbows6 we are due date buddys, I too am having my first, which is a boy due 14 March 👋🏼

Kee80 · 13/11/2018 21:46

@SquirtlesMumAgain thanks for the advice

Gronk27 · 13/11/2018 23:53

@firsttimemumjess1 I’ve been having back and hip pain, leg cramps and trouble sleeping. Found stretching/Pilates/yoga helps and seeing an osteopath-would recommend. I’m also using a pregnancy pillow, it sure it’s helping or not but I don’t normally sleep on my side.

@melissa112 we’re getting a Stokke cot (second hand!) think it will fit in the box room better and like the fact it supposedly grows with baby/toddler.

cardboard33 · 14/11/2018 10:40

@littlekitty1985 everything?? Haha, no we won't go that far but I'm expecting there to be a lot of baby stuff as it's got bigger and bigger over the years. We got married 3 years ago and got all of our clothes, rings etc at that point as we'd done a similar thing in deciding what we wanted and then just held off buying it. Most stuff was around 50% off the prices we'd been looking at earlier in the year. I've asked around (and looking at threads on here from last year) and apparently Mothercare does Black Friday which means other places have to as well in order to remain competitive. Mamas & Papas have already launched their initial black friday stuff as I had an email, and then as places like John Lewis price match they have no choice but to also discount if others are doing it.

I'm not expecting to get everything and it's definetely the kind of event where you can end up spending loads on stuff you don't need but if you're strategic about it, do your research in advance and have target products (and know how much they should usually cost/what is a good deal) then you can save a lot if it's something that you need to buy anyway. We've got the day off work and will just do it all online then collect over the weekend, which again worked out well in previous years.

Disclaimer: I'm also the kind of person that hangs out in the reduced section of supermarkets and never buys bread full price.... So I guess it's in my genes. My family are the same!

This is the pillow I got last week. I have hip, pelvic and tailbone pain and this really helps. I'm 5ft4 and the 9ft is about the right size. I'd get 12ft if you're taller.

@Kee80 with DS I kept randomly buying maternity bras going up cup sizes however it was a waste of money. When I finally got measured I was up 2 back sizes and not up in cup Blush Will just buy ordinary bras this time and get nursing bras nearer the time.

Has anyone tried Hyponobirthing (or planning to)...thoughts? I had some reflexology yesterday it was really relaxing!

cardboard33 · 14/11/2018 15:45

@angelmiracle that is a pillow and a half!!! My husband would laugh so much if I had that in the bed... He already hates the one I have which is less than half of that size as apparently it takes up too much room. Bare in mind that I'm an 8 and he's extra extra small (he weighs less than me) so it's not as if we need loads of room in bed. Do you feel it's made a real difference then?

I've had my pillow for about 10 weeks now and still finding it really hard to sleep on my side as my default is my back. I'm always waking up on my back which I know is fine but I'm concerned that when I actually fall asleep it's also on my back. I thought Id get better (hence buying the pillow quite early) but I really haven't. I suppose all I can do oa try and that has to be good enough!!

BadBadBeans · 14/11/2018 15:45

@Kee80 my boobs suddenly went extra huge when my milk came in so I concur with Angelmiracle not to bother with nursing ones yet. I'm a 30DD normally so not huge, so I typically wear non wired bras as they give me enough support. However I have grown out of all my usual bras too and I am struggling with discomfort. I've got a stretchy one from urban outfitters that looks a bit like a crop top but has bra clasp, and that is tiding me over for now. I also got a really good stretchy one from JoJo to wear in the third trimester last time that actually does nursing too, and I think I will get another couple of those now as they will cope with a few more size changes - I think they come in S, M and L and each size covers a range of bra sizes - very handy.

@Priscilla83 I had a hypnobirthing CD for my son. It was brilliant. I was induced and only had a 6 hour fairly intense labour before needing an EMCS, but I hypnobirthed my way through it all. The midwife, I remember, commented several times to my husband about how calm and focused I was. I had been shit scared of having a Caesarean beforehand too but the hypnobirthing put me in the zone and I was really calm. I am having a planned section this time and intend to use hypnobirthing again nevertheless! Definitely worth trying in my opinion. I also have a friend who had a very long labour and a natural delivery and she found that with hypnobirthing she didn't need pain relief.

Kee80 · 14/11/2018 15:55

Thanks @Angelmiracle @BadBadBeans for the advice. I'm a 36c so not massive but def got a little bigger. I am managing for now in my normal bras so think I'll wait a little longer before getting new

orangekitkat13 · 14/11/2018 16:00

@BadBadBeans do you mind me asking what CD you used?

BadBadBeans · 14/11/2018 16:21

@orangekitkat31 I was a bit naughty and had a copied CD from a friend - but having had a quick look on Amazon I'm pretty sure it was the Effective Birth Preparation one by Maggie Howell. I have since mislaid the copied CD so will actually be buying it this time!

orangekitkat13 · 14/11/2018 16:38

@BadBadBeans great thank you! Been wanting to get one but just not sure which one to get!

TheWanderlust · 14/11/2018 18:45

@Angelmiracle I have one of these and absolutely love it. My OH calls it the cock block pillow 🤣 I do sleep with my usual pillow on top though to keep comfy and prevent heartburn

Wineandchoccy · 14/11/2018 19:07

I have this one bought from wowcher, it’s amazing. I had a dream genii last time but I didn’t rate it at all www.wowcher.co.uk/deal/shop/9462016/u-shaped-pillow-pillowcase-12?st_cid=GoogleShopping&ito=GoogleProducts_RevenueMarketing_9462016&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0rbD-8nU3gIVa7XtCh0R4Q5mEAQYAiABEgLB-vD_BwE

toastfiend · 14/11/2018 19:29

I'm planning to try hypnobirthing. I have a few friends who have used it. All have said, whether a vaginal or caesarean birth, that they found it really helped them to stay calm. Thank you for the recommendation @BadBadBeans. My car journey listening material may finally flick away from The Archers... 😂

Marmite2018 · 14/11/2018 19:58

@Priscilla83 I have just purchased the digital pack with the positive birth company. It's really really good. They have it for £25 today until midnight with a code! Very annoyed as I bought mine a few days ago 🙄.

orangekitkat13 · 14/11/2018 20:23

@Marmite2018 do you have the code? I really want to try this.

SharonO225 · 14/11/2018 20:47

Hi all,
I hope u don't mind if I join. This is my first time on Mumsnet and I'm just trying to find my way around it. I was in another group on Netmums but everyone tends to use FB instead so all went very quiet for weeks now and I don't have FB. I'm due on 15th March with my 4th baby which is a little girl although I expect to go around the beginning of March as others all arrived at 38wks 🙈. We already have DS1 who is coming 14 in Feb, DS2 coming 8 in jan and DD1 who is 2 on Friday.

VillageFete · 14/11/2018 20:54

Hi all, thanks for your kind words re- my friend. It’s a heartbreaking, intense time and it really is stealing my happiness and excitement over my pregnancy, but today has been lovely. I had my 20 week scan (i’m 21 weeks) and my very lazy, unco-operative little boy is healthy and well! Thank goodness.

Also got this brilliant bargain from Mamas and Papas. £600 for the whole bundle in the Black Friday event! Should have been £1,200. I’m booked in to the parent and baby event on Sunday and they said that this will be one of the best deals. I like how classic it is, and also that it’s unisex because we’d like one more baby in a year or two.

@melissa112 I totally get the anxiety thing. You aren’t alone. My midwife and GP have been fantastic. Don’t be scared to open up to them.

@firsttimemumjess1 I couldn’t be without my pregnancy pillow! Best invention ever. My partner ordered it online, so I don’t know the brand, but i’d defo recommendedand you get one. Only way I can sleep.

HidCat · 14/11/2018 21:21

Hi everyone, I hope you're all doing well. Welcome to all the newcomers!

@Priscilla83 My local midwife unit is running a hypnobirthing course in January so I'm doing that.

Had a consultant appointment that was a bit of a pointless task really but have been released back to midwife led care so all options are open.

@VillageFete I'm glad you've had a good day with all that you're going through. Congratulations on having a boy!
