RachelYC · 12/11/2018 21:14

Thanks! I hope you guys are all getting on well. This is our first baby after an MMC earlier this year, so it’s been a bit stressful but all going well so far - had our 20 week scan last Thursday and it was lovely to see our little girl rolling around on the screen Smile! I’m just reading all the posts about baby stuff and hospital bags - you guys are super organised so I’m hoping to pick up lots of tips Grin

ballanj · 12/11/2018 22:08

@cardboard33 @WhatALearningCurve another Spice Girls ticket success story right here 👋🏼 I fully intend to make the most of my maternity leave. So far I have a hen, a wedding, a 40th weekend away, Spice Girls and hopefully the Dolly Parton musical all to look forward to without the strains of work. I'm sure the baby will make me feel the effects of all of those things though 😂

@Gronk27 not sure if you recall my saying about lack of movement, but now my Hulk is making his presence very much felt. So much so when he kicked tonight it make me screech which made my other half jump out of his skin 😂

And I'm pleased we all have this forum as our safe space, it's lovely to share with you all xxx

Gronk27 · 12/11/2018 22:43

@ballanj can’t believe so many of you have tickets! I do remember, haha they’re letting their presence be known now!

melissa112 · 13/11/2018 08:02

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever glad all went well with the scan! Haha i did laugh at your balls comment!

@RachelYC welcome and congratulations on your little girl :)

@ballanj snap! Was concerned about lack of movement and all of a sudden little guy has been kicking like crazy. Weird watching my belly move! OH has felt some of the stronger kicks now which he's thrilled with.

@wordsmithereens thanks for your advice regarding anxiety. I do need to speak to someone in real life but for some reason something keeps holding me back. I have my 25 wk appointment in 2weeks so I'm going to make myself mention it then.

@VillageFete thinking of you. What an awful time for both you, your friend and your friends little one. Just so sad Sad

Feel like I have so much more to catch up on. Trying to read back and type before my boss gets in!

Just out of curiosity. I've noticed in each of the ladies toilets, the cleaner has put one of those read diffusers. They do smell quite strongly but not sure if this is an issue as I'm only using the toilets for a couple of minutes 4 or 5 times a day? Hopefully not anxiety head rearing up. Just trying to get in and out as quickly as possible but can't avoid them as they're in all the toilets!

melissa112 · 13/11/2018 08:06

Reed** not read diffusers!

PartridgeJoan · 13/11/2018 08:28

Checking in after a long absence! Wow this thread fills up so quickly I really need to stay on top of it...

cardboard33 · 13/11/2018 08:40

@ballanj & @whatalearningcurve yay!! I am so so excited and it was my news at work yesterday whenever people asked me how much weekend was... When I was younger we lived somewhere fairly remote so it was a trek to get to any concerts and my parents were never interested anyway so I didn't ask them, but a few people at school did go occasionally to see "big" names and I was always secretly jealous... But now I can do what I want #girlpower ... It's clearly going to be full of people aged around 30 acting like they are at primary school again. Oh how embarrassing.

@assumeitwassomethingclever my baby was similar with its hands and feet in a ball/in its face. The pics from the 12 week scan are much better as it's smaller. Not sure if we will bother getting them at the later scans other than for completeness.

@villagefete you're right in that there is no ideal time and all you (and everyone else) can do is be there for them, but also making sure you are getting the right support yourself. You owe that to your friend.

@gronk27 thanks for the support & stories. I'm sure in 10-15 weeks time when I'm walking around like a whale I'll be thankful for this time!!

@melissa112 I think it's your anxiety finding something else to focus on, as whilst I know they can be quite over powering so get your concerns, I also don't think they would put them in ladies toilets if they were a danger to pregnant women. Can you imagine the legal case if people were able to claim against their workplaces for doing harm to their unborn babies etc? Hopefully you get the support you deserve at your next appointment. Is your partner going with you? Maybe you could tell him your plans as then there's two of you in the know to share the news before you leave.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 13/11/2018 08:49

Glad it's not just mine that was being uncooperative! We were debating getting s 4d scan but I don't think we'll bother now as we'll more than likely just see baby's back!

Sorry if I've missed this in previous conversations but has anyone else bought big bits for baby yet? I've just seen that Halfords have got 30% off certain car seats with a further 10% off with the code "child10" (just in case anyone needs it!). The one DH and I liked is in the sale so I think we might get it and other things in the Black Friday sale but not sure if it's still too early.

Bluebelltulip · 13/11/2018 08:57

@melissa112 you seem to be the most worried about strong smelling things which is a natural response heightened in pregnancy. Our bodies have evolved to be very good at many things but our instincts do unfortunately lump all strong smells together as bad, there are not many substances that you will come across in daily life that cause a problem. I hope your midwife is helpful.

firsttimemumjess1 · 13/11/2018 09:11

@villagefete so sorry to hear the news of your friend. Take care of yourself as it’s an emotional rollercoaster I know too well. Sending hugs.

@RachelYC welcome to the group! Glad to hear the scan went well.

I’ve not been on here for a while so just catching up. I’ve been suffering from dreadful lower back and hip pain! It’s keeping me awake! I started yoga on Saturday in the hope that it may help. I’ve heard that pregnancy pillows are great for back pain. Is anyone using one? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

WhatALearningCurve · 13/11/2018 09:12

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I've got nursery furniture and the pram/travel system with a car seat. All completely "accidentally".

I was adamant I wasn't buying anything till after Christmas, especially as we're living at my mums until our house is renovated. But then went to the baby show in September and the offers were much better than we'd get in store so got duped into ordering them then ha.

Won't have anything delivered until February though.

firsttimemumjess1 · 13/11/2018 09:13

@cardboard33 well done on the tickets. You will have a great time! I loved them when I was a kid too! Smile

firsttimemumjess1 · 13/11/2018 09:18

@WhatALearningCurve ah good to hear that the show was worth it. I’ve got a ticket to this one so was hoping to get lots of stuff there. My Mum and I are going and she’s super excited!

cardboard33 · 13/11/2018 13:09

@assumeitwassomethingclever a lot of our friends had the 4D scans but I think much earlier, as they found of the sex then (I think) rather than waiting for the NHS 20 week scan. I guess it depends how expensive it is and if you feel like you'd benefit even if there's no guarantee as to what you'd see.

We've literally bought one baby thing so far... Which is the pushchair/pram. We weren't planning on getting it until black friday but then we randomly saw the exact one we wanted at more than 50% off in the online clearance (think it must have been a mistake) plus an extra discount as we were new customers which meant it was just too good a deal to pass up on. I figure if you know what you want and think it's a good price then get it. We hope to have more big ticket items in the next few weeks due to Black Friday and then we will look again after Christmas in the sales then.

LittleKitty1985 · 13/11/2018 13:31

@cardboard33 What are you hoping to buy on Black Friday? I thought the sales were mainly for electrical items

WhatALearningCurve · 13/11/2018 13:53

@firsttimemumjess1 the baby show was great but REALLY overwhelming because there was so much there.

The furniture I got was a set that i'd wanted right from the very start but it was too expensive. I'd chosen a potential other set (from looking online) but when I saw it in real life at the show, I absolutely hated it and the offers there meant i could get the original stuff at more than half price.

The pram I went with was a Mutsy I2 - i'd never heard of the brand before I went to the show as my friends all have iCandy's and Eggs. I was really impressed by the features but I couldn't make a decision.
But on the Sunday I found a local shop that had one in stock so I could go have a proper look - then found out they were matching the baby show prices with other items thrown in so again it seemed like the best thing to do was to buy it.

I'd gone to the show on the Friday so then had the rest of the weekend to think about stuff because most places near me were matching prices over the weekend.

When we walked in it was honestly so overwhelming, I found it easiest to walk round with the maps they give out and cross off what I knew I didn't like - rather than look for stuff I did like (if that makes sense) because it narrowed the shortlist down quicker. When I got home as well I then went through all the online shops of the smaller brands that were there selling small items) and made a list of ones that I might shop from - but again, it worked best for me to cross ones off that I straight off didn't like

Hope all this helps and hasn't sounded like a garbled mess!

melissa112 · 13/11/2018 14:08

@cardboard33 yes you're probably right and that my anxiety has just found its new target. My OH is actually off work that day too so that's a good idea to take him with me. He knows more than anyone how bad the anxiety can get. That sounds like an amazing deal on the pram! What a great find.

@Bluebelltulip I never thought of it that way but you're right. It is mostly strong smelling things that I've been anxious about. Thank you, I'll mention it to the midwife.

@firsttimemumjess1 I have a pregnancy pillow but haven't had any back pain yet. Whether that's due to the pillow or just in general I don't know but i do find I've slept better since having it so I'm sure it would be worth giving a go?

We've bought car seat, pram and bedside crib/snuzpod. We went to the Mothercare event and got 20% off everything so ended up with a great price overall. We were going to wait til later but the voucher ran out on 4th November so we bought it all after the 20 week scan. Wish we'd have worked out where to store it all first though!babys room is currently the place where everything gets dumped/storage room so really need to sort it out!

Has anyone bought a cot yet? Are they all much of a muchness or are there certain things to look out for?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 13/11/2018 14:48

Cots vary vastly - some have drawers under (we decided not to incase of puke incidents!), some only have one adjustment level of height which may be problematic if you aren't very tall, then there is the size of cot vs cot bed, oh and whether you want a drop side or not!
Very much personal preference but lots of variation out there beyond just the colour.

If you're buying prams check around as it may be cheaper buying any component parts separately rather than a deal (we saved over £100 that way).

firsttimemumjess1 · 13/11/2018 17:53

@WhatALearningCurve thanks, it all makes sense. Good idea to get the map and plan ahead. I’m really looking forward to it now, especially if there’s some bargains! I love a bargain! Who doesn’t?!

Kee80 · 13/11/2018 18:17

Hi all just a little advice regarding bras!
My normal bras are getting a little to small now (the cup size) nether needed to buy maternity bras before. My question is do I just get bras the next size up or do I get maternity bras in my size??? I'm clueless

Kee80 · 13/11/2018 18:18

*never not nether!!
