@WhatALearningCurve you're thinking of the right one @cardboard33 me and my other half have been together just over 2 and a half years in total and we only moved in together in early November just gone. We planned our baby but at the time of trying were both living in our own places. I was married when I was 24 (I'm 34 now) and divorced my ex husband in January of last year. It's definitely about life stages and not how long we've been together for me and my current partner. We both very much were at the same stage and wanted a child together from the get go. My partner is 41 and there's only so much longer both of us wanted to wait. In some ways we are still 'new' so to speak but in other ways with what we are dealing with and have dealt with in the past, it feels like we've been together a lot longer. So long as you're a team with your child that's what counts at the end of the day.

Gronk27 · 05/01/2019 09:38

I’ve been with my OH 5 and half years. When we met I still had property with my ex and it took a couple of years to shift but once it was gone we were engaged, married and pregnant in pretty quick succession especially the last bit!

SoBoredOfWaiting · 05/01/2019 11:24

Just catching up with this post, sorry for the absence ladies!
@VillageFete so sorry to hear about the passing of your friend. Hope you are ok and big hugs.
@Gronk27 yes me also, I was so sore and uncomfortable the other night I went to bed at 8.30. Think it is just between growth spurts! Also had a huge braxton hicks contraction the other day that took my breath away, so don't think they are helping!
Love to hear your OH how you met stories ladies! Mine is a bit on the soppy side- we have been together nearly 14 years, childhood sweethearts, married a year and half and now expecting our first! 😊

Talking of prams, I need your thoughts on travel systems ladies. I have had my eye on the mothercare journey 4 wheeler, but I am a bit concerned for warranty as they are announcing more and more closures! Should I go for it?!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 05/01/2019 11:48

DH and I met at 6th form in an English lit class. Hit it off pretty much straight away and haven't looked back since! Been together nearly 9 years. Bought our house a year after we both finished our Masters', got engaged a year and a half later and got married October just gone. Very very soppy... but do you ever sit and feel like you need to pinch yourself? Everything seems to be coming together and I couldn't be happier!!

@SoBoredOfWaiting ooh that's a very good point about the warranty with all the store closures! However, they're pretty much the only baby-only store left so I'm sure even if they do shut down every store they'll continue to trade online so you should be okay with warranty. However, it seems you never really know with any company nowadays!

Miami81 · 05/01/2019 14:10

Hi all.
@VillageFete I am so sorry about your friend. Please be gentle with yourself as much as you can. Grief is a funny bugger and can be so tiring so if you can at all take some down time for you and baby.
I'm loving all the relationship catch ups as well. We have been together for 8 years since October, we met online and I knew pretty quickly that he was mine and that we would be doing all this stuff together. Married for 3 (also October). We started Trying for a baby after our first Christmas. We have had a bit of a rollercoaster with two miscarriages, one in April 2016 and another in December 2016 and then our loss of our beautiful girl to stillbirth in September 2017. I am so glad that we are quite open with each other about how we feel about things as I think this level of a shitty start to married life is very very hard on relationships. But we keep trucking away. He is amazing and I honestly can't imagine going through all this without him here to calm me down.
On another note - baby seems to be head down now, so seems like induction at 37 weeks will be our plan unless anything changes before that. So I am now on the countdown. Weeks seems too long for me in terms of milestones so I am now on days. 48 days (as she runs off to boots in a panic thinking shit we really need to start a hospital bag soon)...........

SquirtlesMumAgain · 05/01/2019 16:32

I remember expecting DS that the run in after Christmas seemed really quick and he was April, so even closer this time.
Feeling so poorly again, it's been 3 weeks now it seems so not fun in the slightest. Been trying to have a restful day but DS sadly had another idea about that.... He has hardly wanted to be away from me, but is being really full on... Silly boy!
We asked him what he thought of our 2 top names and the moment and he really liked one, sadly it was DH's choice rather than mine (not that I don't like it!). Even though he knows he has a middle name he wasn't sure about the idea of giving her one!

Miami81 · 05/01/2019 17:44

Sorry you are feeling poorly @SquirtlesMumAgain is it just generally rundown or do you need a full checkup do you think? Growing babies isn't easy and with DS needing you as well it must be hard.
I took my first iron tablet this morning. We shall see how we get on with that.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 05/01/2019 19:13

I definitely have a bug, but with the breathing issues and gunky chest I think it may be a case of a run to the doctors next week. Am seeing the midwife on Tuesday so will see what she thinks on the sleeping/breathing issues.
I am definitely dehydrated too so that's a major issue. I try and rehydrate but my lips are so painful I am obviously struggling to keep it up!

Wineandchoccy · 05/01/2019 19:24

Oh no poor you @SquirtlesMumAgain hope you feel better soon it’s tough looking after another child as well, it’s not quite as relaxing this time round is it Sad

Good luck with the iron tablets @Miami81 I can’t wait to stop them and go to the loo normally Blush

SquirtlesMumAgain · 05/01/2019 20:41

Definitely not relaxing at all @wineandchoccy. How things change!!!

WhatALearningCurve · 06/01/2019 09:22

Aldi baby event www.aldi.co.uk/c/specialbuys/baby-and-toddler?q=%3Apopular&page=6

Gronk27 · 06/01/2019 09:38

@whatalearningcurve thanks for the Aldi heads up. Apparently they’re doing some reusable nappies which I’m going to check out. Anyone have experience of biodegradable/reusables? I’m thinking of starting with biodegradable then moving to resusable. Like the look of cheeky wipes. I use flannels myself (for my face!) so seems like not much of a jump to using a version of them on a baby. Cotton wool at first I think, although getting some biodegradable from birth wipes just in case.

@soboredofwaiting thanks, feeling reassured now and it’s eased off. Think it was a growth spurt.

Wineandchoccy · 06/01/2019 09:48

@WhatALearningCurve great minds sorry I hadn’t seen your post Smile

Wineandchoccy · 06/01/2019 09:51

@Gronk27 I used disposable nappies but cheeky wipes at home although used disposable wipes when out and about as dd always seemed to save poonamis until we were out and I was caught out with not having enough cheeky wipes a couple of times.

Gronk27 · 06/01/2019 10:06

Yeah I think the reusable wipes seem like the most user friendly thing but like you say fully prepared that I will need back ups! Even a combo of reusable and disposable is a step in the right direction surely. Thanks for the warning and the Aldi heads ups!

HidCat · 06/01/2019 10:18

I plan on mixing reusable and disposable too. Once I get into the swing of things hopefully it will be more of the former!

@SquirtlesMumAgain hope you feel better soon!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 06/01/2019 14:19

Just popped into the local kiddicare which is closing down. Got a Mam steriliser and bottle warmer for £30 rather than £90. And then a medela breast pump down from £100 to £40.
I never get bargains so I'm very happy!

Wineandchoccy · 06/01/2019 15:07

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever great bargains. There is going to be nowhere left to shop with lots of Mothercare shops shutting as well Sad

Sictransitgloria · 06/01/2019 22:49

Hello! Hope you are all ok. Sorry to hear your sad news @villagefete - you sound like a wonderful person and I hope you are being looked after by those around you.

I am having a glucose tolerance test tomorrow and feeling worried for no good reason. Has anyone else had one? I haven’t had my blood pressure or urine checked since 16 weeks and I’m now 28 weeks (long story - a lot of to and fro-ing between gp and midwife. Saw the gp who said I looked fine 😳 ) seeing my midwife tuesday. Had a few comments from people saying I look small for my gestation and now it’s playing on my mind. Hoping all is well, been feeling lots of movement and haven’t had any other symptoms to suggest otherwise. I also have a 2 hour antenatal appt at 34 weeks at the hospital but no explanation of what it is? I’m not under consultant care so not sure what that is.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 07/01/2019 08:29

@Sictransitgloria Good luck with the GTT hope all goes well. In regards to bump being small. I've had loads of comments on being small and I'm tiny in comparison to some friends who are at a similar stage but when I went to my last midwife appointment I'm measuring in the top percentiles so I'm sure you're fine! She said It's all what's happening inside that counts not what shows on the outside. 😊

I haven't felt baby move properly since yesterday early afternoon and I'm getting irregular mild cramping. When I mentioned it at my 28 week appointment she said any cramping that comes and goes is fine and likely just Branston Hicks but I'm a little concerned I haven't felt baby move in a good few hours. I have been asleep so I'm hoping I've just missed it's active time! Anyone else had anything similar or am I right to be a bit concerned?

ballanj · 07/01/2019 08:50

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever it could very well be that you've just missed baby's active time. I've found that I'll have a couple of days where it's constant movement followed by less frequent movement. If you feel concerned about any changes call the midwife as it's much better to put your mind at rest. My midwife told me that if baby is being a bit quiet, test the water by having something cold to drink and maybe something sugary. Perhaps that might prompt some movement. I'm sure it's just baby having some quiet time but make sure you're comfortable and reassured. If not, call it in.

VillageFete · 07/01/2019 09:00

Thank you kindly for your comfort over my friend’s death. It’s been a hard time, especially on top of Christmas, that’s for sure! I need to throw myself in to prepping for baby now.

@Miami81 I am so sorry to hear what a terrible time you’ve had getting to this point. I am terribly sorry to hear about your daughter Sad All my love to you.

@sictransitgloria Urgh I had my GTT test on Friday. I have PCOS so apparently needed it. Heard nothing back re - results yet. The drink is nasty and the wait afterwards is boring but it’s not too bad. I too have had comments about how i’m carrying. I’m not as big as I was with my DD but to be honest i’ve been so busy and stressed in this pregnancy with nursing my terminally ill friend that i’m not surprised i’m not as big.

I’m also not happy unless i’m worrying. Someone on an IVF group i’m part of posted saying there could be a link between high doses of folic acid and autism?! Before I conceived this miracle baby, I was prepping for another IVF cycle, so was taking folate and Vit D every day for about 6 months. I then changed to a folic acid and Vit D tab in first few weeks of pregnancy, and then moved to a pregnancy multi vit and a extra Vit D tab from about 7 weeks to 12. Now I just take a pregnancy multi vit (when I remember Blush) Could I have taken too many supplements here? I’m so scared of the ASD spectrum in case it was something that could have been prevented and i’d unwittingly caused my child to be on it?

SquirtlesMumAgain · 07/01/2019 09:51

Pretty sure most of the autism caused by X stories are scare stories at the moment with very little scientific backing. Go and look for scientific papers if you are concerned - not just random articles on random websites. Also make sure you look at any sample size - a sample of 12 (for example) isn't enough to actually tell anything.

Good luck with the GTT. Nothing to worry about just a boring wait. If you haven't heard back in a couple of days then all should be OK.

toastfiend · 07/01/2019 10:44

So sorry to hear about your friend @VillageFete.

@Sictransitgloria a lady in Tesco asked me when I was due the other day and then told me I was tiny for how far along I was, so have lots of others (Lord knows what they're looking at, I feel huge!) but whenever I've been measured I've been around the 50th centile (and last time near the 90th with my post-Christmas bloat!) 😂 So I wouldn't worry too much how you look objectively, we all carry differently I think. Hope your appointment goes well! Smile

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I find I have a couple of days where baby is massively busy, followed by a quiet day. It worries me a bit every time but if I have a drink and something sugary and lie down to focus on movements for a bit it usually moves enough to alleviate my worries. If you try that and it doesn't work, though, then do give the day assessment unit a call. I've been in a couple of times when baby didn't respond to the usual coaxing. All has always been OK, but they've stressed every time that if you have any doubts at all then they'd far rather see you than not and it's much better for your peace of mind too if you have any worries.
