Just had my 24 week appointment, all OK with little one. She was doing acrobatics so the student midwife had fun finding her heartbeat.
My blood pressure was a little high (still normal though) and a bit of protein in my urine so were checking for swelling, but all seems OK. Just got to keep an eye on everything, especially with my increased pre-eclampsia risk

Wineandchoccy · 04/12/2018 12:11

I have had my 28 Week appointment this morning all ok I’m measuring 30 weeks which is reassuring as the bright bowel can cause small babies so although measuring is not an exact science hopefully it means baby is growing ok for now.

ballanj · 04/12/2018 12:31

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I've gained 1 stone and 2 pound to date. Which I don't think is bad going. Seems to be steady gaining (weigh myself every week) so taking in my stride. I've been kindly told by many people I don't look pregnant from behind it's only when I turn to the side so I guess that's something!

Gronk27 · 04/12/2018 12:33

@assumeitwassomethingclever I haven’t weighed myself and now I’m scared to!! I need to stop eating so much crap and get back on the fruit and veg.

ballanj · 04/12/2018 12:34

@Wineandchoccy that's good news on your measurements. Have they given you a new due date on that basis? I've got my 28 week check in a fortnight. Had to have my bloods done in prep for that this morning and got all the way to the GP and they couldn't do without my notes and form which meant going home then back out. And only just arrived into London for work as a result. Definitely having one of those mornings!

Wineandchoccy · 04/12/2018 12:44

@ballanj no due date has stayed the same, midwife did say it’s not an exact measurement just an indicator but it’s all they have to go on.

I had bloods taken today to check my iron levels. What a pain you had to go back.

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I haven’t weighed myself and I don’t think I want to either my diet is shocking at the minute Blush

WhatALearningCurve · 04/12/2018 13:09

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I've put on about 11lb so far which I'm really happy about because I was overweight when I became pregnant and my diet is awful. But I think the difference now is I'm more little and often rather than before I'd eat less often but much bigger portions.

I've got my GTT test next week so I'm hoping the fact I haven't put on a huge amount of weight with work in my favour there!

LittleKitty1985 · 04/12/2018 13:29

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I've put on about 5kg (just under 1 stone), which is surprisingly little considering how much I've been eating! I've been really craving sweet things, especially chocolate.

melissa112 · 04/12/2018 14:02

@BadBadBeans sorry to read DS had to go back to hospital. Hope he is much better now?

Size wise I feel massive now! People keep commenting on how big the bump is! At my 25 wk appointment last week midwife had a general feel of my uterus, not an official measurement but didn't seem concerned or mention it was too big.

I'm not sure how much I've put on. Last time I weighed myself a couple of weeks ago I was 5lbs over my weight when I first found out I was pregnant, but I did lose 10lbs to morning sickness so reckon I've put on about a stone.

I keep meaning to weigh myself so that's on my list tomorrow morning. To be honest I was already at a 29BMI and planning to lose weight when I found out I was pregnant (27 BMI after morning sickness loss) so didn't really want to gain too much but hoping it's mostly baby. I'm really trying to eat better but I have such a sweet tooth! Trying to eat a lot of stir fries with wholewheat noodles.

Random question but has anyone had any boob leaking yet Blush I woke up last night and the bed sheet felt a little wet next to me. When I touched my boob it was wet too. In the morning I convinced myself I'd dreamt it but then looked at my boob and there were white bits that looked like dry milk on there... I'm 26 weeks on Thursday so thought it would be a bit early for that?

Gronk27 · 04/12/2018 14:19

@melissa112 no leaking but I know a few of us have had the dry bits which someone described as boob dandruff!! I’ve had it for a while now.

melissa112 · 04/12/2018 14:22

@Gronk27 Grin boob dandruff. I like it!I probably wouldn't have even noticed if I hadn't woke up and felt it. Is it something that comes and goes or once you start with the leaking/dandruff it carries on now?

Gronk27 · 04/12/2018 14:24

I’ve had the crusty part the whole time since I noticed it first, like I say never noticed any wetness yet.

ballanj · 04/12/2018 15:12

@Gronk27 no leaking boobs for me yet 😂 wondering when that particular joy will start! I'm still trying to get used to my increasing size and inability to roll over or bend down like a normal person 😂

Wineandchoccy · 04/12/2018 15:14

@melissa112 I have been leaking for ages and in my 1st pregnancy I was the same.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 04/12/2018 16:03

I've only put on 9lbs so far (I'm 24 weeks today). My App says I should have put on between 14-16lbs so I'm not sure if I should be grateful or ask my midwife if all is okay.
@melissa112 I haven't had wet boobs yet but have had crusty nipples a few times so I'm not sure if I'm leaking either!

melissa112 · 04/12/2018 16:37

Oh the joys of pregnancy! If it contains itself to evening leakage I can put up with that but very wishful thinking!

@Wineandchoccy do you have to wear breast pads or anything? If you don't mind me asking?

Wineandchoccy · 04/12/2018 17:03

@melissa112 I have started wearing them, I bought some reusable bamboo ones from amazon they are great really soft. I’m not sure what they will be like at full on leakages once baby is here but ok for now.

Angelmiracle · 04/12/2018 17:06

This is my 5th week back to work and such a difference in bump from I started back. Bump is high up and hard at top as baby keeps moving to breech.

I do not own scales as I torture myself getting off and on them must call into Boots or ask midwife to weigh me.

Last night I coughed with my hands on my tummy and could really feel the baby!! You should try it.

Right side of my pelvis really hurting at work now no matter how much getting up and down I do to try keep it at ease. Doubt I may need regular physio but so expensive. Will mention to midwife on Monday.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 04/12/2018 17:43

@whatalearningcurve the only person I know who has ended up having a positive GTT in pregnancy was slim and active (she's a head teacher). Doesn't seem to be really to do with size much at all, just personal bad luck (though I am sure there is more science to it than that!)

Might be brave and step on the scales, but not sure I want to know. I only put on about 7kg in total last time I think, but DS was obviously small

Gronk27 · 04/12/2018 18:11

@ballanj bending is the worst!

@angelmiracle physio is defo an option bug your midwife!

melissa112 · 04/12/2018 18:48

@Wineandchoccy brill, thanks for the tip on the bamboo ones!

@Angelmiracle I tried the coughing with my hand on belly and did feel something harder in the middle? How did you know what bit was baby? Hope the midwife can help with your pelvis pain. How are you feeling about work now, are you on the phased return?

cardboard33 · 04/12/2018 19:33

Evening all... I've been reading this thread but haven't got around to replying as I start posting a reply then forget to press send and the chat has moved on.

Whoever said about pain in their throat... I have that too!! It's so weird... I've never (knowingly) had heart burn so who knows!

Also been getting leg cramps at night. I've been told mixed things about them being caused by salt. I don't add salt on any foods, always choose the reduced salt/no added salt etc and generally have a good diet (cook mostly from scratch etc) so I'd be surprised if I had way more salt than the average person... but anyway, I heard this version first so then made even more of a conscious effort to reduce my salt intake. However, last week people at yoga were saying their midwife said it was down to lack of salt/sodium which made me think. I drink an excessive amount of water (as in 6-8 litres in a typical day) and I mostly drink exclusively water rather than squash etc which presumably means I have less sodium in my body. What are other people's views? I'm going to ask at my next appointment but it's not until later next week.

@assumeitwassomethingclever I'd mention it but I think as long as you are actually putting on weight and this doesn't stop (I've read it should be very gradual) it is considered fine. The app will only tell you an average or range which might be for like, 50% of people rather than everyone. Last time I was weighed (about 2 weeks ago) I'd put on about 3.5kg from my booking in weight which I think is about half a stone, so similar to you? I've put on about a stone since actually getting a positive test though.

Wineandchoccy · 04/12/2018 19:47

@cardboard33 my Mum suffers with cramps and she was told a lack of salt in your diet can contribute but how true that is I don’t know

BadBadBeans · 04/12/2018 21:20

Thanks all for the well wishes for DS. He is much, much better now and I think I can relax a little bit. The last couple of days I've been on alert watching his breathing in case he needed to go back to hospital!

Well after saying about the leg cramp I had the other night, the pain got steadily worse and worse until yesterday morning I was literally limping. I checked the back of my calf and it looked a bit red, so I called maternity triage as I am aware that DVT is potentially a pregnancy issue in the second and third trimester. I thought she would tell me not to worry but she booked me an emergency appointment at the hospital, which is an hour away! By the time I'd got there, OF COURSE the redness had gone - must have been the way I was sitting. I looked like an absolute twazzock, but the consultant I saw was terribly nice about it all. He said seeing as I was in, he asked the nurse to do some obs on me anyway, and then I turned out to have an abnormally high pulse rate (101) so I had to have an ECG. Oh god! Thankfully the ECG was 89 which was just low enough for them to send me on my merry way. I was pretty embarrassed but luckily nobody minded.

@cardboard33 I had heard that about low salt too, although it's not on the NHS page about cramps. My GP friend suggested drinking a little tonic water before bed to see if that helped. Now, quinine tablets are sometimes prescribed for leg cramps, according to the NHS website (although I'm not sure about during pregnancy), so I might try the tonic water approach. The NHS site also says that dehydration can cause cramps - clearly not your issue! (That is a LOT of water... Is that OK?!)

@ballanj I did not leak at all during my pregnancy with DS. (Despite having an oversupply of milk when he arrived.) So you may be lucky!

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I have no idea how much I've put on as I have only been weighed at the routine early appointments. I have only really gained on bump and boobs though. The consultant I saw about my non-DVT did say that he would expect by 25 weeks that I'd have some water retention in my legs, but I had absolutely none. So maybe if you haven't got any water retention then you will have put on less weight than someone who has?

I'm absolutely knackered at the moment. I'm behind on everything - work, life admin and housework - because of the extended hospital stay for DS. There are just not enough hours in the day. Argh.

BadBadBeans · 04/12/2018 21:21

Oh! Also I missed my bloods appointment with my midwife because of the emergency hospital trip, so that is rearranged for next week. I looked up what my iron levels were at the 12 week scan and they were 118 - normal range is 120-160 so I was a little low then. I reckon I'll be properly low now and that is why I am breathless. I also have dark circles under my eyes, which I have never had in my life before.
