Am getting prodded quite low again this time. This little one is running a race like her big brother.
24 weeks now, so pleased to be classed a a viable as still feeling really rubbish all the time!

Gronk27 · 29/11/2018 12:16

Went for my 24 week check up, I'm 25+1 today. Baby is having such a wiggle low down at the moment. Like she's running a marathon down there.

Had a dipstick and BP done and Midwife listened to the heart beat. Didn't have a bump measurement that will be done at 28 weeks as well as bloods. She asked me how I was, feeling safe, etc. If I was going to any classes.

She also keeps reminding me to talk to baby and rub tummy as it helps with development/building a bond has anyone else been told that?

I also to her about my cramp and hip pain and she gave me some leaflets and said if gets unbearable she can refer me to physio. Now I'm in a bit of a routine with work I can look for a pilates class.

I'm also getting night sweats!

wordsmithereens · 29/11/2018 12:40

@Gronk27 I came across this a few weeks ago (it's aimed at midwives but a great geeky read as well), and it includes talking to your bump and some other suggestions for bonding. In hypnobirthing we're encouraged to visualise baby as well. (Which I struggle with a bit as I'm not a very visual person.

melissa112 · 29/11/2018 14:31

@Murphyrocks oo thanks, I'll have a look at the spinning babies site. When is it likely that they start running out of room to turn around or can they do that quite late? Midwife said they don't worry about position until 37 weeks. I thought space to turn would be tight by then but i don't know much!

@wordsmithereens thank you, that means a lot. It's nice to have others who are going through the same thing to chat to.

Ha yes I'd never felt anything painful before until it came to belly button kicks. I normally love baby kicking but for the first time it was uncomfortable. Wonder if it becomes painful elsewhere as they get bigger! I find it hard to visualise baby too. Like I can feel him but can't picture him as a baby at all.

@PurpleFlower1983 hi! Feeling the same too, when I move around I look a bit penguin like Blush bump taking it's toll now!

@SquirtlesMumAgain sorry to hear you're still feeling rubbish, must be horrible for it to be so relentless. That 24 week milestone is quite nice when you know that intervention could mean they'd be ok should anything happen. Fingers crossed they stay nice and cosy for a while now but I agree that it's reassuring.

@Gronk27 had my 25 wk appointment on Tuesday and midwife didn't mention talking to bump. She felt around and showed me where my uterus started/ended but no official measurement. I ramble away to bump a lot anyway, the dog can't work out what I'm doing when it's just the two of us.

Speaking of bump being able to hear us, on my pregnancy app when I got to 16 weeks it said that baby can now hear you etc and to talk to it, then at 24weeks it mentioned it again as though it was new? Today at 25weeks apparently baby can remember songs and voices and react to them! It's all so fascinating.

Murphyrocks · 29/11/2018 14:41

@melissa112 no worries! Yes they can still change position right up until birth but obviously the later it gets the less space they have and there's some evidence they show preference for a position from quote early on so I'm doing what I can to maintain optimal positioning from the start! Frontal inversions followed by ball bouncing/pregnancy yoga is working great so far.

Also I couldn't picture ds as a baby at all, it's totally normal, I found it so bizarre when they laid him on my chest after birth and couldn't really get my head around the idea that he'd come out of me!

SoBoredOfWaiting · 29/11/2018 15:33

Hi all! Checking in again as I have dropped off for a while :)
I am currently 24 weeks +3, expecting a baby boy! Need to update my due date in the next thread to 18th March! He is currently in breach position, but they did not seem to worried about this when I had my scan.
Had a few issues with sleep - basically I haven't slept since I was about 8 weeks. If one more person says it is good practice for when baby is here, I think I will tired scream in their face. I have also had the delights of a sickness/other end bug this week, so not going well!!

@BadBadBeans so sorry to hear about ds, hope he is doing ok now!
@melissa112 sorry to hear about the workload, it must be so stressful. It is not right that they are completely ignoring your emails though and the fact you are struggling.

Hope the rest of you are all ok and anyone is more than welcome to message me at any time for a chat or a rant!

ballanj · 29/11/2018 20:05

Hi everyone 👋🏼

Sorry I've been away from this board for some time. Had so much going on, what with settling in to my new home and making some important baby purchases. We've got a pram and car seat. Albeit mild drama where we ordered a fix car seat and then had it delivered to my in-laws, but changed my mind about it so ended up ordering a maxi cosi in Black Friday! It's the only time me and the other half have had a full on fall out in the two and a half years we've been together! But all resolved and pleased with our purchases. We're also picking up our new car tomorrow and I haven't driven in a couple of years so I'm excited and nervous!

I had my 25 week check on Tuesday which was all good. Hulk had a nice strong heartbeat and he's been moving lots. A little less so over the last couple of days but I have an anterior placenta so I'm not worrying too much. He does like music and went nuts when I played some on my phone and rested it on my tummy, actually saw my tummy move for the first time which was really strange but lovely to see!

I've also been prescribed some internal cream for the thrush I've been suffering as it's not shifting. And the other half has been instructed to take an oral tablet in case all we're doing is passing back and forth.

So that's been me these last few weeks! I now know I'm going to become obsessed with hulk's movements soon, some reassurance in that respect is always welcome. Xx

SquirtlesMumAgain · 29/11/2018 20:28

They definitely can recognise songs. When DS was born the term before I had him we were singing Royals by Lorde in our community choir and it was the ONLY song that would calm him when he first arrived. Blah to nursery rhymes, but Royals worked for about 2 weeks!!!

toastfiend · 29/11/2018 22:04

@SquirtlesMumAgain oh blimey!! I fear if that's the case my baby will be falling asleep to dance music when it arrives... 😂

I'm another who is starting to feel quite sluggish now. I'm just permanently exhausted currently! I've become a real old fart, in bed for 9pm almost every night!

Wineandchoccy · 30/11/2018 10:18

I’m on annual leave today and dd is in nursery so blitzing the house my parents have just popped in and my Mum asked me if I’m nesting Grin

Gronk27 · 30/11/2018 12:56

@wineandhoccy I keep been asked if i’m nesting. No I’m just trying to sort out the chaos that is my house and have somewhere other than a drawer for my baby to sleep! We have been here for two year and have as yet failed to move in properly!

Wineandchoccy · 30/11/2018 15:19

We have been here 6 years and still haven’t found homes for everything @Gronk27

My back is hurting now I think I have done to much, just run a bath so going to have a leisurely soak and then I am off out with friends tonight to an Italian 4 out of the 7 of us are pregnant so at least the bar bill will be cheap

Gronk27 · 30/11/2018 17:31

@wineandchoccy that makes me feel better! Wow you know a lot of pregnant ladies!!

Hermagsjesty · 30/11/2018 17:47

I think I’m getting nesting urges but can’t act on them as we’re due to be moving but the date keeps getting pushed back. We were originally hoping to be in the new place by end of Oct! Starting to get a bit fed up and anxious about it all now - just want to know where we’ll be spending Xmas

@hermagsjesty moving is so stressful! We were the same a couple of years ago. Fingers crossed it all goes through quickly for you.

Just booked on a Hypnobirthing course!! Bit pricey but I'm not doing NCT and everyone has raved about Hypnobirthing. Spoke to OH about it last night and he was all for it, said we've barely had to spend any money yet (lots of hand me downs). I was explaining I wanted to go into birth with lots of knowledge and feeling as in control and positive as I could (and not just because I'm a control freak!) Hope it's money well spent.

HidCat · 30/11/2018 21:50

@melissa112 so sorry things are still tough for you. Keep talking to your midwife and self refer if you feel you need to.

Things ok here but starting to feel it a bit. Lots of movement from baby which is fantastically reassuring. Having trouble eating though - I keep getting food stuck in my throat and have to chew very carefully to avoid it. Very weird!

ballanj · 30/11/2018 22:59

@HidCat the kicks are so reassuring aren't they. I think someone said about how strange the belly button kicks feel (@melissa112 perhaps?) I've been having those this evening. I saw my stomach move properly from the kicks for the first time aswell which was so weird! Other half can now feel quite the kicks really clearly aswell (after about three weeks of me feeling and him not being able to) so even though I'm feeling like a whale and shattered right now I'm keeping all the new lovely positive parts in mind.

Does anyone else play music to their bump? Hulk seems quite taken with George Ezra and Rick Astley!

melissa112 · 01/12/2018 08:31

@Murphyrocks that's interesting, baby seems to have moved again after saying I haven't felt kicks on the left for weeks, low and behold..! I think I'll have a look for a pregnancy ball too!

@SoBoredOfWaiting hope your sickness bug has disappeared by now. Horrible things, especially now when there's so much other stuff going on! Congratulations on your baby boy!

@ballanj hi due date buddy! Glad all going well with you and all good at the check up. Yes it was me who mentioned the belly button kicks, so weird! Haha baby sounds like he has good taste in music! I keep playing the Greatest Showman soundtrack to baby and soon will be Michael Buble's Christmas album on the way to work. Think OH has ideas about my taste of music but baby is with me all day so Buble it is Grin

I think I'm having some nesting thoughts but not sure if they are just general 'omg I need to do this, this and this before baby comes' we did spend our two days off work at the start of the week giving the kitchen a sprint clean, on top of cupboards (well OH did that), pulled fridge out and washing machine and tried not to vom and dogs fur that had gone underneath it BlushBlush

Silly question.. Can we have minced pies? I know they're soaked in alcohol but not sure if I'm being silly? We are going to put the Christmas tree up today and fancied some nibbles and I love a minced pie! Also got myself some alcohol free mulled wine from Ikea, hope it's nice!

melissa112 · 01/12/2018 08:37

Oh before I forget, is anyone else doing Kegel exercises? I completely forgot about them so haven't done any. Put a reminder in my calendar for 3 times a day from yesterday onwards to do some.

Baby seems very annoyed every time I do them trying not to tense stomach and I don't think I am but he still kicks me every time!

ballanj · 01/12/2018 08:59

Hi @melissa112 👋🏼👋🏼

Personally I think you'd be fine with a mince pie. I'm not entirely tea-total this pregnancy and do allow myself the occasional glass of wine, so if it wasn't for the fact that I don't actually like mince pies I wouldn't worry about having one. The alcohol content would be so minor it would barely register.

Your spring clean sounds brilliant! If that's the case then I've been nesting the best part of my adult life 😂

Oddly enough my cousin has just got us tickets for Michael Bublé next year. She's due her 2nd 4 weeks after me so we'll have a lovely date to keep and chat all things baby.

I've not tried kegels but I am trying to remember to squeeze my pelvic floor a few times a week. Hoping the fact I'm still able to run a little is helping to strengthen my pelvic floor aswell.

Murphyrocks · 01/12/2018 09:21

@melissa112 I'm pretty sure all the alcohol boils off with mince pies, I've let my 2 kids have them with no qualms! I also find the nurture app is good for reminding me to do kegels - my pelvic floor is pretty weakened anyway from a forceps birth last time so doing what I can!

@ballanj I haven't been able to run since ds was born as my pelvic floor just can't handle it! The joys of childbirth...

melissa112 · 01/12/2018 09:43

@ballanj Oh wow, jealous of the Michael Buble tickets! Haha I love a good spring clean too. Although I'm probably not nesting as baby's room is still the storage room and the pram, car seat and cotbed plus mattress are all in boxes in the living room til we can sort it out. It's making me itch haha.

Thank you and @Murphyrocks for the mince pies advice. Going to treat myself to one today! Didn't think about kids eating them actually but my step son always has one with me so good to think of it that way. Thanks ladies.

I might give the nurture app a go for the kegels, I have a section for it on my pregnancy app but it goes up to the next level every time you use it so I'll be on day 100 soon when I've only been doing them a month!

Miami81 · 01/12/2018 10:12

@melissa112 just tried doing some kegels (thanks for the reminder) and little lady does not like them either. Kicking back like a bronco in response. Hilarious.

Jellybean023 · 01/12/2018 10:45

Can I join? Just discovered this thread after lurking on the pregnancy forums for a while. I’m due 2nd March - first baby.
