@LittleKitty1985 that's hilarious. I hope you don't teach biology!

melissa112 · 22/11/2018 17:09

@LittleKitty1985 haha oh dear!!!

@Angelmiracle think my little one is in the same position as yours. I can feel kicks quite low down at the same time as other movement up near my ribs and feel breathless a lot! In fact I'm just sat here now and feel a little breathless Confused

Had my bump touched for the first time by someone not in my family, I was taken by surprise but at least it wasn't a complete stranger!

How is everyone getting on diet wise? Throughout the morning sickness phase my diet was terrible, I did a little better once it eased off but I'm very aware that the last few weeks it's been full of too much rubbish and not enough good stuff. Me and OH both feel quite run down at the minute and our oven is broke (landlord has finally agreed to buy a new one but still waiting for it) so we've been eating too much quick and convenient stuff that isn't very healthy.

I still take my pregnancy vitamin but starting to worry about baby and the nutrients he's getting. Could I be doing loads of harm or will he take what he needs? We're making a conscious effort to eat better from tonight onwards!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 22/11/2018 18:11

Trying to eat OK, but still horribly sick and exhausted. My bump aches like hell too - it wasn't like this last time.

Mixed comments on bump size. Wish I had a full length mirror to be able to compare to the photos from last time. I feel massive and uncomfortable :(
Definitely not enjoying this pregnancy in the slightest

melissa112 · 22/11/2018 18:31

@SquirtlesMumAgain oh gosh I'm so sorry to hear you're still feeling so sick Sad I'm the same with not enjoying the pregnancy. The past two evenings when I lie down (even though I've not eaten) it feels like I've got something stuck in my throat, well not in my throat but that pain you get with it, it's all across my back on the same level as my bra strap. No idea what it is, other than it's so uncomfortable.

Hope you get some relief from the sickness soon Flowers

cardboard33 · 22/11/2018 19:16

@toastfiend We've had similar. We'll have been married for over 3 years by the time the baby comes and together for almost 10 years. All of our friends who got married at the same time of us had "honeymoon" babies other than one couple where I know they've had a lot of difficulties (but are now pregnant!) whereas we never intended to start trying straight after getting married and have actually bought the whole baby thing forward by a few years due to my health.

@wordsmithereens oh no, I don't take offence to it, it's more that I'd never noticed this before as I'd just assumed that everyone was able to work out what people meant (even roughly) when someone says how far along they are... particularly if they were the ones who asked!

@melissa112 Sorry to hear that you've been in pain recently. I think babies are resilient and resourceful so can get everything that they need from you regardless of your exact diet, particularly if you're also taking vitamins anyway. I saw a study recently that claimed the majority of pregnant women didn't take any vitamins* and obviously most people go on to have healthy babies. Plus I expect that with the majority of those who don't it is down to other things out of their control, or simply bad luck, rather than things that can be controlled. The fact that you're actively posting on here and are worrying about him so much shows that he's getting a lot more TLC than most babies, even if you feel that you can't give him everything you feel he needs right now... and the reality is you'll probably always feel like that as a mum too as the best you can do just has to be good enough.

  • I suppose I'm in that category as I haven't ever taken anything other than folic acid (which I still have to take) and vitamin D.
Wineandchoccy · 22/11/2018 21:36

@toastfiend we had been married for 6 years and together for 12 years when we had dd and the amount of comments we got about it was shocking Angry
We will have been together 17 years next year and some friends of ours who met at the same time have a son who is 16 so they had the comments the other way about it being ‘an accident’ you can’t win Hmm

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 22/11/2018 22:15

Has anyone else's OH not felt baby kick yet? Everytime I feel a kick, I call DH over but it stops by the time he gets there and puts his hand on my belly. He's not that bothered and says he'll feel it when it's bigger but I feel like he's missing out!

Wineandchoccy · 23/11/2018 05:55

www.happymama.co.uk/maternity-clothes.html

I have just ordered a few things from here dressing gown for hospital bag, a dress for a works do and a baby wearing fleece. I have things before from here the quality is ok for the price and they have lots in the sale.

Wineandchoccy · 23/11/2018 05:58

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever yes DH hasn’t got the patience to sit and wait so as soon as I say feel now and if it doesn’t kick straight away he wanders off.
DD (3) who we only told on Sunday has felt it loads because she will sit for ages with her hands on my belly Grin

cardboard33 · 23/11/2018 10:17

@assumeitwassomethingclever one of my apps this week had an article about "don't worry if your partner can't feel baby kick yet" as it's apparently much more intense for the woman than it is from the outside. It's only been this last few days where my husband has genuinely felt it move whereas I've been feeling it on and off for a few weeks now. But normally it has finished by the time he comes anyway, or when he does come I then can't tell if it's kicking as I can only feel his hand. The app article said that this is common until the start of the third trimester, which made me less concerned.

Nightmanagerfan · 23/11/2018 10:30

Just checking in - it’s been a bit hectic but have the day off today.

@squirtlesmumagain I feel huge too - it’s my first baby and so far about six people have commented on the size of my bump... I find it a bit upsetting especially as I’ve only put on 3kg at 22 weeks which is in the recommended amount.

@assumeitwassomethingclever I think that’s normal re others not being able to feel the baby. DH has only felt our baby once -
It usually stops when he puts his hand there!

@melissa112 that sounds grim - have you worked out what it is yet? I thought heartburn but that wouldn’t stretch across so far I don’t think? I’m with you on not enjoying pregnancy so much.

Nightmanagerfan · 23/11/2018 10:34

Oh and we had our “20 week” anomaly scan on Monday - all looking healthy! Baby slept throughout. I found it pretty tough as the combination of lying on my back and being poked for 45 mins (we are part of a research project so they do extra scans including a separate cardiology scan and an internal) was a bit much and I felt quite faint and sick. But worth it to see this little one sucking his/her thumb!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/11/2018 10:48

They definitely press firmly for the anomaly scan - I don't remember that from last time but it definitely hurt!
Woke up unable to breathe for the second night in less than a week, going to have to prop myself up already

Gronk27 · 23/11/2018 11:05

@wordsmithereens thanks! I'm already booked in for Anti-D in the Christmas break, joy!

@melissa112 feeling guilty about my diet and terrible and taking my Pregnacare and I know I need Vit D because I had a horrendous deficiency last Winter. I take comfort in the fact that the baby takes what she needs first!! And healthy babies are born in terrible circumstances all the time, sadly so me stuffing my face surely can't be that bad. I am trying to eat more fruit and veg and to take my tablets though.

I'm sorry others are feeling poorly :( I just miss sleep!!

melissa112 · 23/11/2018 14:26

@cardboard33 thanks for your reply, it's nice that others see my worrying as caring a lot, even if it is a bit OTT!

@Nightmanagerfan no idea what the pain is, never have it during the day at work when I'm sitting and definitely happens when I lie down. Mum thought heartburn too but I agree that I didn't think it would stretch so far. Will mention it to midwife on Tuesday if it's not gone.

Your scan is gorgeous by the way! So clear and how lovely to capture baby sucking their thumb!

@Gronk27 I've also comforted myself with the same thought that healthy babies are born in all sorts of circumstances and hopefully there's something useful to him in most things I eat (bar the chocolate habit..). With you on the sleep!! Are you waking up a lot or needing the toilet a lot which is waking you?

melissa112 · 23/11/2018 14:30

Is anyone having the glucose test? When i went for booking in I'd lost 10lbs through sickness. When I first got pregnant my BMI was 29 so right on the edge of needing the test but because of the sickness my BMI was 27 when I went for booking in.

Wondering whether I should mention it to the midwife on Tuesday and see whether I need it as I was so close to the limit when I found out I was pregnant.

Is anyone else having the bloods taken for their 28 wk appointment at the hospital separate to the midwife appointment?I'm classed as out of area so I go to my GP to see the midwife on 18th December and to the hospital for full blood on 19th.

Miami81 · 23/11/2018 14:46

@melissa112 I had my OGTT today.
I would mention it, but unless you have other risk factors (family diabetes etc) I think she will say there is no need.

melissa112 · 23/11/2018 16:40

@Miami81 thanks, will do. How did you find it?

Miami81 · 23/11/2018 16:56

@melissa112 it's gross. But just one of those things that you have to do. I had it in my previous pregnancy so will always be tested for it now.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/11/2018 17:21

Did you have the lucosade version or the other @Miami81?
We had lucosade down south but this time I just have to turn up having not eaten..... Not looking forward to whatever concoction they give me (I hate lucosade too)

Miami81 · 23/11/2018 17:33

@SquirtlesMumAgain it's the horrible super concentrated Capri sun type thing. No lucozade here.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/11/2018 18:30

How much do you have to drink.
The lucosade was 1ltr in an hour, 2 hours before the test (which was obviously at something daft like 9.30am.... Early morning wake up no-one needs!)

Miami81 · 23/11/2018 19:53

@SquirtlesMumAgain my first fasting bloods were done at 8.40 and then drank the pouch, it's a big Capri sun type size. Then waiting around for 2 hrs, then second bloods at 10.40. Can't eat or drink anything other than a few drops of water. Can't go for a walk or anything like that.

SquirtlesMumAgain · 23/11/2018 20:33

That's not too bad a volume then. I'll "look forward" to it... 19th Dec for mine, at least DS and I are going to see Father Christmas that afternoon

Gronk27 · 23/11/2018 21:38

@melissa112 I'm waking a lot, struggling to sleep on my side, getting leg cramps and hip pain and night sweats. I can sleep through needing a wee or at least ignore it as the moment!
