@Angelmiracle I wish I could have left it to be a surprise but I just had a feeling it would be a girl and really needed to know if I was right. Luckily I was haha

Wineandchoccy · 16/11/2018 17:59

I have just been for a pregnancy massage I could just crawl in to bed now

MistakenHoliday · 16/11/2018 20:16

Just checking in Smile

HidCat · 16/11/2018 20:36

@Wineandchoccy love a pregnancy massage - going to get one booked in after Christmas! The spa near me does a fab bump massage too, love it!

Angelmiracle · 16/11/2018 22:28

I also had a pregnancy massage tonight but wouldn't call it relaxing. After few minutes in bed lying on my right i started having horrendous shoulder pain. I had to lift my right arm with my left to move! No position or amount of pillows helped. I was up from 4am and felt better not lying down. Went to work but it was very sore. Rang around 6 salons pleading for a pregnancy massage and got a 30min appointment!

I've had a lot of massages and physio for shoulder pain over the years but I never felt knots and tension like this ever before. I had no niggles or pain prior to last night it literally just appeared! The therapist done a great job but there's still tightness there causing nerve pain 😣 I will lie on hot water bottle tonight! Can't use voltoral or ibuprofen gel either.

Oh no @Angelmiracle that doesn’t sound great, how are you feeling today?

I fell asleep listening to my hypnobirthing app as I have a lovely imprint of the earphones on my cheek Grin but that and the massage must have done the trick I slept from 10pm - 8am without waking up.

melissa112 · 17/11/2018 08:52

Congratulations on the everyone who has had a 20 week scan. All sounding good Smile

I love the sound of a pregnancy massage, what makes it different to a normal one? @Angelmiracle i hope your tension/pain managed to ease off overnight?

To anyone that has bought a cotbed yet, do you know if all 4 sides have to be railings? I read something about it being safer due to air circulation but then all the cotbeds I've seen have solid end sides? As in no rails, but rails on two of the sides. Once we've decided on drop down vs fixed sides, how do you narrow down which ones are best? With car seats I could look at crash test scores etc but with cotbeds I have no idea! Mamas and papas have a couple on sale as part of their black Friday, they look fine to me but then I wonder how I know how safe they are.

Mothercare also have one of their own cotbeds reduced from 300 to 140 I think but they have also recently recalled two of their cotbeds so not sure now.

As for mattresses.. that's a whole other stress! Confused

Wineandchoccy · 17/11/2018 09:06

Our cot bed had solid ends but then fixed slatted sides, I’m not sure but I think most will have fixed ends as they make the headboard when you convert in to a bed.
It had 3 levels I would say this is important to check as you don’t want to be leaning over to far with a baby as they know when you are putting them down.
We went with one that was in budget and also had plastic rails along the sides to stop them chewing the wood.
We got ours from Smyths toy shop.

Wineandchoccy · 17/11/2018 09:12

@melissa112 this was ours www.smythstoys.com/uk/en-gb/baby/cot-and-cot-beds/nested-sorrento-cot-bed-natural/p/163560

SquirtlesMumAgain · 17/11/2018 09:12

If anyone is looking at Gracco baby stuff amazon have up to 50% off some items on their black Friday offer today

SquirtlesMumAgain · 17/11/2018 09:15

We were the same as @wineandchoccy with the choice of cot bed (although the little sod still chewed the solid ends instead.....)

This is what we got but not in this colour way

melissa112 · 17/11/2018 10:23

Thank you for the help with the cotbed. I find too much choice so overwhelming sometimes that I end up just leaving it and leaving it and letting it stress me out. I'll definitely check for the 3 levels. Thanks for the suggestions and help

melissa112 · 17/11/2018 10:28

Just out of interest, are fixed sides considered safer or is it just personal preference?

Bluebelltulip · 17/11/2018 10:32

We got a cotbed with solid ends, bars on sides, 3 levels. No drop side, I think fixed sides are safer.

melissa112 · 17/11/2018 10:37

@Bluebelltulip thanks, I did read something about drop sides in the USA so a little bit cautious

With mattresses are the ones with springs considered best? Are there any big no-no's to look out for?

Angelmiracle · 17/11/2018 11:22

Thanks @Wineandchoccy @Melissa112 thankfully I slept so long as the hot water bottle was on my shoulder the whole time.

I feel slightly bruised from the massage but much less nerve pain. Will book in with physio next week.

We have a Mamas and Papas drop side cot with three levels - i bought it second hand from a friend. I have never, ever used the drop function, partly because I didn't feel the need and partly because I didn't want DS to realise it could do that as I am aware they are not approved of in the US. I did however use all three levels! It has solid ends. We are now using it as a toddler bed.

melissa112 · 17/11/2018 12:53

@Angelmiracle glad you managed to get some sleep. Hope the physio can give you some more relief!

@BadBadBeans thanks for that, I feel much better now about the solid end thing as it seems most people have those. I have 2 friends with children and their both have solid ends too. Sometimes I read too much! Will get searching and see if we can pick up a good Black Friday deal

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 17/11/2018 17:55

Spent the afternoon having a look round Mothercare at prams. We've settled on silvercross but are unsure whether to go for the wayfarer or pursuit. The only problem with the pursuit is that it doesn't come with a carry cot. Has anyone had any experience with either?
We've also spent our wedding vouchers buying a cot bed which was reduced from £280 to £135 and a mattress reduced from £150 down to £70. Very happy with our bargains so far!!

Wineandchoccy · 17/11/2018 18:58

We have the pioneer @AssumeItWasSomethingClever love it had it for dd and it has been serviced by silver cross for £50 and looks like brand new. I haven’t seen the pursuit but a carry cot is handy for naps and March can be cold so baby may be cosier in a carry cot.

I’m not sure where you are but they gave an outlet shop in Bradford but also a online shop babycare @ Bradford if you want to save some money.
Ours was an ex demo and cost £400

Angelmiracle · 17/11/2018 19:13

@melissa112 the below mattress got the gold Mother and Baby for Best Safety Product 2018

@Assumeitwassomethingclever this looks like the mattress we got DS 6 years ago. Good bargains you got. I think we'd feel better getting a new one even though it's a washable cover? It's only been in a spare room not the attic but the thought of bacteria build up or something.

Ooo while we are on the subject of mattresses, we bought DS a Moses basket mattress and his cot bed mattress from The Little Green Sheep. They were both absolutely gorgeous quality and I will be doing the same again for this little one. We go

BadBadBeans · 17/11/2018 20:24

Whoops, my phone froze there. We got one of the Twist cot mattresses, I was going to say. Bought the mattress protectors to match and the mattresses still look beautiful. DS is obviously still on the cot one but I am considering reusing the Moses mattress for the new baby. I am a bit unclear on whether the guidance

HidCat · 18/11/2018 07:08

@melissa112 I think the main concern over safety with cots / cot beds / bed rails is the gaps between the slats and the base/sides as children can get wedged once they start moving / climbing. Drop side cribs have been more problematic due to the gap between the frame but they've improved this now so just check there are no gaps a small child could wriggle through. Once our lo was big enough to get stuck in the gaps we took the sides off. Using sleeping bags helps in my opinion as it seems legs getting stuck is really common!

Went to a restaurant last night and was served a burger that was still pink in the middle, like medium rare. Sent it back and asked for it well done due to being pregnant and they sent a better one but out of two patties one was still pink throughout so I removed it and just ate the well done one. Think I'll stick to McDonalds in future...can't be dealing with chefs who don't take requests!

SquirtlesMumAgain · 18/11/2018 09:01

@Hidcat - shame about the burger. I was served raw lamb at Miller & Carter, sent it back and it didn't look like they had even tried to cook it any more!!! Medium I wouldn't have personally minded but it was properly raw (not even rare!)
