@TwinkleDay I was assuming it can be used along with maternity leave as you're still employed while you're on maternity.

I have added 4 weeks to my existing maternity leave! I hope that's not wrong as I only get 8 weeks full pay then following 8 weeks 50%. Those extra 4 weeks full pay will help massively. 'I've no idea what we'll do when statutory mat pay kicks in, we are mortgaged to the hilt! I might have to go back to work Sad

TwinkleDay · 06/11/2018 15:39

Christ that’s quite a lot of holiday then, what is the latest you can start mat leave ?

We have just renovated our house completely as of last year so that’s one less thing to worry about, and mortgage is quite short in the grand scheme of things for our age.

amanda2809 · 06/11/2018 15:58

@TwinkleDay at my work and my previous you were still entitled to anything that you would accrue whilst on maternity leave. But, they ask that you take anything you're owed in the current leave year before your maternity leave. When does your leave year start/end?

With DS1 I used the leave I would be accruing to drop down to 4 days for the last few weeks (helpful when I was getting really tired and sore!), and then the same the other end, used my leave I'd accrued for the first part of the year to ease back in to full time.

TwittleBee · 06/11/2018 16:33

Got through to GP in the end, they have booked me an early scan on the 13th November at 11am so only a week away. She did tell me to go straight to A&E if pain gets worse or if I get a fever or start fainting though. Really worried in case it is ectopic.

Frazzlerock · 06/11/2018 16:33

I've a question I'm not sure if anyone will know (and 100% jumping the gun here). If I had an EMCS 13 years ago and an elective (because of stubborn breech DS2) 9 years ago (will be 14 and 10 years by due date), what do you reckon I will be advised?
I'm assuming another elective c-section... but I then realised the time that will have passed and maybe they'll suggest a vaginal birth? Will it be like I've never had a section because of the years gone by? Or am just as likely to rupture?

Frazzlerock · 06/11/2018 16:34

@TwittleBee I'm glad you have got a scan booked! And not tooooo long to wait. I guess all you can do is sit it out and try ( I know, I know) not to worry..

Laburna · 06/11/2018 16:47

@frazzle my friend had an emergency c/s with her first. She had a normal delivery with her second 2 years later. She was advised that she needed to labour in hospital and that there would be extra monitoring with a view to emergency if there were problems, but as long as she was fine she could carry on.

edidxb · 06/11/2018 16:48

@TwittleBee - pleased you have a scan booked. Fingers crossed you are OK in the meantime.
I went back to work today after 4 days off sick plus the weekend. I survived with my bronchitis lungs and had many people laugh at me and my voice and also wince with me speaking! I was quite light headed today but not sure if that was my illness or pregnancy.
Still have very sore nipples and tender breasts as a whole, terrible constipation (but I now have some prunes and I am forcing them down) but no nausea or sickness. I have pretty terrible skin and I just look awful as a whole. I am pale, spotty, with dark shadows under my eyes!
I am 5+3 today so there is still time for nausea. I don't mind not having it as long as everything is OK and I don't miscarry......
This whole first trimester is an anxious head-messing time.
I told DH today I wasn't planning on going back to work until Jan and he looked very unimpressed and said - I thought we had a plan to pay off the mortgage!! Well we do....but I think I need a few months off work! I only get 45 days full pay......

Delilah7 · 06/11/2018 16:51

@Frazzlerock hi Hun! Xxx

@Onestep2 I hope so lovely! :) xx

Laburna · 06/11/2018 17:01

Only 45 days @edidxb ?! That's harsh! Your DH will just have to get used to it though, you don't want to rush back, and it'll be even harder to go back once the baby arrives!

StargazyDrifter · 06/11/2018 17:12

Frazzle I don't know the answer to your question but had been quietly worrying that I've massively jumped the gun myself looking into birth options and a condition I have that may affect it. I called a charity helpline for the condition and they sent me some info about it in pregnancy which was lovely and comforting until I decided I've probably jinxed the whole thing! Our brains and hormones do move in mysterious ways!

TwittleBee Glad you got your scan sorted, not long to wait now, even if it does feel like an eternity.

edidxb Great that you're on the mend. I'd been quietly thinking about going down to 4 days a week until January by using A/L if I don't stop feeling quite so sick. I'm at 5+1 today and the road to the second trimester feels loooooong.

Itsallgreek Hope all went ok at the doctor's today. Been sending you good vibes.

Does anyone have any info on PCOS and pre-eclampsia by any chance? I have PCOS and have been meaning to work out what the risks are, so far only know it's 'increased'. Some pressure to start booking a family holiday early next year but I don't really want to commit either way.

itsallgreek · 06/11/2018 17:17

Hi ladies... Update from the gyno I have a sack inside my womb yay meeee... But little bean hasn't developed as much as normal for the weeks I am.. Either I'm a week less or something else is up.

He saw somethings which might not be anything bad but they might be problematic he wouldn't tell me anything more than that probably coz I was bubbling away.. He's given me tests and iron and something else to take to ease my stress...

I'm still all emotional and he told me to relax until next week when I'll go again to hear the heart.. He won't tell me that I have a successful pregnancy till then. He's not worried about the spotting or my cramps and pains he told me the only thing he cares about is that my boobs don't stop hurting and uninflate...

Tell me how I'm gonna keep it together until the end of next week..

On the plus side its 1 sack so chance of non identical twins but until he hears heartbeats or see embryo on the scan not ruling out identical ones.

Laburna · 06/11/2018 17:29

@itsallgreek try not to panic, though I realise that's a ridiculous thing to say. The probability is the dates are wrong and when you go back you will be fine. Remember that our weeks are worked out by LMP date, and even if you use OPKs to find ovulation they aren't able to tell you exactly when you ovulate, and then there is no idea how long it takes for that little bean to get to the right place and implant. With all of that, there's a very high probability that the LMP dates and your actual EDD from implantation could be a week or more out.

I know it's really hard, and I feel for you I really do, I have everything crossed for you and your sore and balloony boobs!

(Interesting information about the boob thing! Wonder why he's only worried about those!)

Jalf · 06/11/2018 17:32

Hey all, I'm 4+5 (so says my app) est. due 12th July. BFP came on first day of missed p so we're all systems go. Booking in apt with local midwife team is in for 7th Dec... Very early days here but excited! Not sure exactly how much to share but this is first child, second pregnancy. Boobs tender, feel like a whale I'm so bloated and I'm already so snappy it's unreal.

Got to 8+4 last time and felt horrific from week 6 through 8 then so I know it's probably going to get worse!

I'm self-emp and have a house move probably in Feb 19 subject to completion so I'm panicking a little bit already about finances, stress and my distinct lack of maternity leave + pay Shock - also haven't told anyone and won't be until dating scan - is this normal?

Trying to stay calm but it's tricky. Any advice welcome!

Laburna · 06/11/2018 17:32

@stargazydrifter I had PE in my last pregnancy if you have any questions.

I also had Gestational Diabetes if anyone wants info on that - though my bloods are failing massively at the moment so I'm not sure I'm a font of knowledge 🤣

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 06/11/2018 17:33

Anyone else have little to no symptoms? I feels so normal.. other than 1.. yes 1 painful nipple. I feel normal

Frazzlerock · 06/11/2018 17:35

@itsallgreek what a worry for you. I've no idea how you'll get through the next week but we are all rooting for you and here for all of your wobbles 💜

@StargazyDrifter I have PCOS and had two successful pregnancies. What would you like to know? I can tell you that it made no difference to my pregnancies (it's just very hard to get pregnant). What I wasn't expecting was my inability to breastfeed which upset me hugely. PCOS can effect development of breast tissue during puberty. I knew mine were small but I had no reason to think that would be a problem until both my babies kept losing weight despite feeding 24/7 with a perfect latch and no tongue tie.
It's something you might like to think about if you want to BF. I'm going to join La Leche League ASAP and get my milk supply going ASAP too (if I can).

I'm happy to answer any PCOS questions

StargazyDrifter · 06/11/2018 17:42

itsallgreek Sorry you're having this anxious wait. It's very much an imprecise art rather than a science, and fingers firmly crossed for good news next week. I've been using Andrew Johnson's pregnancy app, it's a kind of mindfulness thing and have been finding it helpful.

Labruna That must have been exhausting! Can you remember when your PE was diagnosed and I'm assuming you then might have been advised not to travel? The two times I've had blood pressure taken since BFP it's been only just in the 'high' bracket on that chart so I'm a bit worried. GP says let's keep an eye on it. Ugh.

Laburna · 06/11/2018 17:43

@frazzlerock you can start from 36 weeks I think it is? Double check that though. With GD it's recommended to collect colostrum before birth to help with babies blood sugar...I never got far enough a long with DS to do it.

There's a cut off because stimulating them can cause you to go into labour so it's not advised to do it early.

StargazyDrifter · 06/11/2018 17:45

And thank you Frazzle, it's reassuring that PCOS doesn't have to mean PE or lots of extra difficulties. I had no idea about BF and would be very keen to follow what you're up to on that.

Laburna · 06/11/2018 17:56

@stargazydrifter I was diagnosed at about 28/30 weeks. DS was IUGR and I had GD so I was going for weekly scans/fortnightly growth checks by the time I was 30 weeks. I then had several periods of reduced movement, and I was on daily CTGs for the last 3 weeks to a month. We managed to get him to 36 weeks in the end, but I spent a lot of time in the hospital, had to give up work early (though not as early as I should have done) and yes, was never allowed to really go very far from the hospital.

I was lucky that my BP managed to come down with lots of rest and relaxing!

It did means I had to be hooked up to a monitor during labour, had a drip throughout and basically had few options for how my delivery went. Though to be honest I had no plan I knew all along it would be consultant led.

We were meant to be in Italy when I was 36 weeks for a friend's wedding I dropped out and then (thankfully) DH did too as DS came the weekend we were meant to be there. There's a cut off point for flying and insurance, where you need a fit to fly letter which you won't get if you have complications. 28 weeks? UK travel, I didn't want to go very far because I didn't want to risk having complications somewhere a different hospital would be involved. With DS being so small, there was a risk of him needing help after birth and I didn't want us trapped miles away from home!

Unfortunately, if your BP is high there's not much you can do bit rest, relax and listen to your Dr. It's so infuriating that there's no real fix! Medication can help for a certain time, but likely as you get further into pregnancy, like a lot of stuff, it gets less effective.

TwinkleDay · 06/11/2018 18:11

@fortheloveofdoughnuts I have had no symptoms since last Monday. Other than being quite tired and spotting. YET might I add... I think we have jinxed outselves

MrsKES · 06/11/2018 18:11

Hello! I just got back from the doctors confirming my BFP I got on Halloween. We were very lucky and got pregnant first try. So nervous and scared about things but also over the moon. No symptoms yet except constipation (sorry if tmi). Has anyone paid for an early scan? Are they good? Thanks in advance xx

silverrose56 · 06/11/2018 18:26

@ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts I have hardly any symptoms. I'm a bit tired - but I have a toddler 🤷‍♀️ the only other symptoms are a bit of back ache and some slight cramps. I was very ill with my first pregnancy so I'm finding it hard to stay positive.

ratherbeshowjumping · 06/11/2018 18:28

Thinking of you @itsallgreek what a worry to have. Genuinely don't have any advice for you but just letting you know we're all here for you x
