@sk17 I think those of us who have had early scans have either paid for them privately, or had them at the EPU because of possible signs of a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. My first scan with the NHS won't be until twelve weeks at the earliest. Basically I wouldn't worry; not having a scan yet means they don't think anything is wrong.

toomanyflatwhites · 30/10/2018 14:53

Hey @sk17 I haven't had a scan yet either! Am only 7 weeks so have self-referred but heard nothing yet. But how times have changed! DD is 2.5 and i had the harmony test privately when pregnant with her which included scans at 10 and 12 weeks so seems silly to pay for another private scan before that. Just interesting that even only 2 years ago it was unusual to get a private scan (I was one of the only ones on my MN group) but now it seems to be the majority. Nothing wrong with that of course!

I'm at home today waiting for a delivery - apparently I told DP I would weeks ago but had forgotten 🙄 so I haven't got the work laptop at home, have been barely able to do more than answer 3 emails and have watched a load of tv and eaten sooooo much! Feeling a bit guilty as I'm doing so little work at the moment....

curlypasta · 30/10/2018 15:04

@kescilly I’ll be consultant led. I’m very overweight, was on bed rest due to massively high bp last pregnancy. I also gave my baby group b strep and he was very poorly. Plus I’ve had 2 babies both with 4th degree tears. They are gonna love me having a third!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 30/10/2018 15:06

So I had my booking in appointment this morning and feeling a bit disheartened. I thought having had a missed miscarriage last year I would be able to have an early reassurance scan, but no. Apparently we only get those after 3 miscarriages or a bout of bleeding. I can't wait another 4 weeks till the 12 week scan to find out if everything is ok :( But cheapest scans around here are £95!! Just feeling really down.

Reastiepeace · 30/10/2018 15:25

Apparently I’m having an early booking in apt so that I can be referred to an obstetrician about my horrific nausea. I went to the gp again in floods of tears this morning. I think they don’t know what to do with me any more!

MadeInCornwallx3 · 30/10/2018 15:33

Oh @JBCG I'm sorry you're feeling so confused. I think it's a perfectly normal reaction to what you're going through. You're trying to protect yourself. I'm sure if the pregnancy is viable you will be over the moon and the acceptance will Come, though it's totally normal to carry some worry. Fingers are crossed for you for good news tomorrow.

All those concerned about appointments and scans. I think places vary around the country, but you should have a booking in spot by around ten weeks and first scan around the 12. If it's approaching that I would def Chase! At the end of the day peace of mind is so important.

I have my booking in appt tomorrow - it's weird because it will be five years to the day that I was giving birth to my first 😬 Also have a private scan on Saturday which will be 8+6.

@SpunBodgeSquarepants Have you tried looking in groupon or similar? I know they have deals for baby scans quite a lot?

sk17 · 30/10/2018 15:53

@Kescilly oh that makes sense. Might have to book a private one because i'm so impatient Wink thank you

@toomanyflatwhites would you not get another private one?
You're so lucky to be at home. I have to drag myself out of bed everyday to go work, when all I want to do is sleep Haloween Sad

toomanyflatwhites · 30/10/2018 16:11

@sk17 the harmony test is £400 so don't want to pay for another scan, plus for me I think it would probably only put my worries at rest on the day so there doesn't seem much point.
I really should be working though, I feel so bad! Have got to go to a course tonight and all I want to do is stay home...

mindthechaos · 30/10/2018 16:19

I feel like every time I come here it's to moan! I'm so hormonal - the receptionist at the dr's made me feel a right idiot because I forgot my dd's red book at home. I actually cried in my car Sad I'm flicking between losing my temper or crying at everything. This pregnancy is just making me feel so rundown and awful, it's like I'm doing a subpar job at work and at home with the girls - and now I'm crying again

fee1234 · 30/10/2018 16:38

I just got a letter through for my 12 week scan, but the date they have given me means I will only be 10+4, is this too early? Just wonder if I should phone and get it rescheduled.

fee1234 · 30/10/2018 16:59

Just called and got it rescheduled for when I'm actually 12 weeks.

JBCG · 30/10/2018 16:59

Bloods taken - hopefully I'll get the results tomorrow morning (if not no doubt I will harass them until they get back to me) so I'll know more then. So ready for this limbo to be over.

KoalasAteMyHomework · 30/10/2018 17:18

I have my booking appt on Fri at 8 weeks. Haven't got a scan date yet but hoping it'll be at 12 weeks as DH is off work then on annual leave.
My symptoms seem to have disappeared today but trying not to worry as sure I read they can come and go.

@JCBG thinking of you Flowers

coastergirl · 30/10/2018 17:32

@Kescilly I will be consultant led. I had gestational diabetes in my first pregnancy and I have anxiety issues too. I want another c-section anyway.

My gp called today and said she's done my referral to the antenatal mental health team and it's been accepted so that's good. I'm counting down the days until my private scan on Saturday. Feeling it all today though. I've got a headache, my boobs are agony, my ligaments are sore and I'm soooooooooooo tired. Moan over.

stellarfox · 30/10/2018 18:31

@Torsz so frustrating!

I don’t think I’ll be consultant led throughout but I do have an appointment with a consultant in November as I had a coloscopy within the last year and they want to check it won’t cause complications

Torsz · 30/10/2018 18:47

@stellarfox I know - I understand that it's only important to us, but it would be nice if they got on with things and stopped wasting time! I only just had a call back from the midwife team who confirmed that my paperwork needs to be resent so they'll do it tomorrow and I should get details of my scan appointment in a few days 😖

My main concerns are a) I'm trying to arrange time to see my family and want it to be after the scan and b) my work keeps booking trips/meetings for the next few weeks and I'm going to have a real problem if the scan clashes with any of them!!

Kescilly · 30/10/2018 19:22

@curlypasta and @coastergirl how often will you see a consultant? I think my midwife told me she'd refer me and I might see someone around 12 weeks? But my sixteen week appointment is with her.

@JBCG how are you doing today? Hoping you’ll hear back in the morning and finally get some answers.

@SpunBodgeSquarepants that must be disappointing. They’re costly around here too. You could try Facebook too, sometimes companies offer deals on social media.

@Reastiepeace that sounds horrible, I’m sorry you’re feeling so awful. I hope they find a better solution for you soon.

socktastic · 30/10/2018 19:25

@JBCG hope you get some answers from the blood tests tomorrow and quite right to kick up hell if they've not got them.

@Torsz have you told your work? I've told my line manager then sworn her to complete secrecy.

Had a hellish weekend and start of week. 2 year old has had some sort of virus, he's got an awful cough, temps been spiking and he's been throwing up so next to no sleep for the last 2 night's. Husband has been working pretty much round the clock as the shit has hit the fan. It's his 40th today so trying to be nice to him. It's hard work.

Reastiepeace · 30/10/2018 19:34

Coaster that’s interesting re MH team. I want to get someone to see this time as last time pg broke me mentally, I need it be more proactive before I lose site of myself. I wondered if I’d ask the mws or gp about referring me.

coastergirl · 30/10/2018 19:36

@Kescilly I don't know how often I'll see them to be honest. I don't think it was much last time.

coastergirl · 30/10/2018 19:38

@Reastiepeace I was referred by the midwife last time at my booking in appointment. This time the GP referred me, so it seems either can do it. I had horrendous antenatal depression last time. I'm terrified of it happening again. Hope you get the help you need.

curlypasta · 30/10/2018 21:52

Last time I was under consultant for many different reasons, one being baby growth issues, so every other week scans plus every other day midwife visits for blood pressure (I was on bed rest, they used to just let themselves in!) but I saw consultant at 16, 20, 30,34, 38 weeks and then 40 and after induced birth x 3 as well, but by then we were under several different consultants for the baby - who is perfect and has no lasting problems.
It was terrifying at the time, but the gestational diabetes risk was the easy bit!
They are very nonchalant but go in with a list of questions!

I had a lot of issues, this time is gonna be easy!

Torsz · 31/10/2018 04:57

@socktastic I've told the head of my function but haven't been brave enough to tell my manager yet - I only joined the company 2 says after getting my bfp and I don't think he's going to take it well at all!

socktastic · 31/10/2018 05:58

@Torsz my friend knew she was pregnant at interview, got the job and only then did she tell them. I think it's within rights to do that. They also have to honour appointments etc. But I can see why they might be a bit miffed. I hope the meetings aren't too exhausting and you get time for yourself in the evenings.

Napssavelives · 31/10/2018 06:35

I’m hoping to avoid consultant led care this time. Was first time due to small bang, second time as I had a small baby first time round but he was fine , also had thyroid problems post first baby. Second baby was fine, no issues at all so I’m hoping it’ll give us the go ahead for midwife led. I’m slightly concerned they’ll want to refer to the mental health midwife midwife because of my history, thing is it my history not my now. I’m well, not been on meds for 7 years. I have anxiety at times and having private therapy to process childhood trauma but I don’t want to drag myself to addiction appointments which I don’t feel that I need .
