Thanks torzs, I really don’t remember having a certificate last time.

Urgh, the bread maker has just finished a loaf of bread and the smell is so overpowering and making me so queasy. Think it might have to be shop bought bread for the foreseeable!

Reastiepeace · 22/10/2018 15:23

Xposted mrssmith. Dd is 7 so that,k be why I don’t remember one then

Skee · 22/10/2018 15:26

Hey @Reastiepeace, was just coming to say what Torsz has. I was encouraged to get the flu jag ASAP by my midwife when I was pregnant in 2016 with DS, so thought I’d be proactive this time... oh well! 😂

Skee · 22/10/2018 15:28

Oh, meant to say, I’m not sure about prescriptions, it’s different in Scotland x x

Mrsssmith11 · 22/10/2018 15:33

@skee I am in Scotland too and I got one last time I was pregnant.

Mummytomollyandbean · 22/10/2018 15:34

I got my maternity exemption when I had my booking in appointment with my midwife. She did it online this time so I got it straight away to my emails

Reastiepeace · 22/10/2018 15:37

I’m presuming I’m ok to get free prescriptions before the certificate comes through though? The prescriptions were pg related and wouldn’t have been necessary and gp knows I’m pg. I’m worried now I’ll get a fine!

Kescilly · 22/10/2018 15:42

So happy to hear about all the successful scans! Sorry for not replying individually, but this thread moves so fast.

For those of you who have had a scan, has it been external or internal? I’m due to have one in a few days at 8+1 but I also have a high BMI and am wondering if I need to prepare for an internal scan.

Also thank you to those describing the booking appointment process. I have no idea what to expect so this does help. Should I write down some of my medical history ahead of time? I’ve had lots of various issues over the years and am not sure which ones they’d be concerned about.

Skee · 22/10/2018 15:49

Oh I don’t remember getting an expemption form for prescriptions last time? Our prescriptions are free here, perhaps it depends where you are? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Clueless 😳

My midwife did give me the form I needed for work, can’t remember what that’s called though, think it was about 16wks ish? It’s amazing what you forget 😳😂

Torsz · 22/10/2018 15:51

@Kescilly mine at 7 weeks was internal, but it was at the fertility clinic and I'd been having internal scans there monthly for the past year so I'm not sure if it's different when you go elsewhere...

And for my booking in appointment I was emailed some forms which capture all my medical history etc - I've been asked to fill them in beforehand so not sure if this is different elsewhere too!

Reastiepeace · 22/10/2018 15:54

Kes it’s been a few years since I had dd but I had slot of scans in first trimester as I was a worry wart. Tbh some were internal and some external and it didn’t seem to make a difference on the number of weeks pg as I remember having a scan at 6 weeks which was in the tummy and m 12 week one was internal! Think it depends on the person doing the scan and how they prefer to do it. I do remember the 6 week one being quite uncomfortable as they pressed really hard into my lower tummy when they did it. I had a highish BMi in that pg and I remember feeling mortified that the notes of the 12 weeks scan said something like view obstructed due to adipose tissue (ie fat!).

SassehMonsta · 22/10/2018 16:12

My 8+3 scan was external. :) thought I was 8+1 so they would have still done external. Pregnancy exemption from was.given to me.today to fill in, and it back-dates it by a month from when the midwife fills in her part. Mine needed filling in and posting. If you don't get it at first appointment, chase - mine took a long time last time. It gives free prescriptions and NHS dental until baby turns one.

Mrsssmith11 · 22/10/2018 16:14

@skee I was just pregnant earlier this year. I didn't get it when I was pregnant with DD 5 years ago. I was surprised too because we don't pay for prescriptions

Skee · 22/10/2018 16:15

Ah! The dentist! Yes, that’s what I used it for!

Don’t mind me, I think I’m going senile 😬

Skee · 22/10/2018 16:17

@mrsssmith - thanks, it’s all coming back to me now 🙄😳😂 x x

Kescilly · 22/10/2018 16:19

Thanks ladies, looks like I should brace for an internal scan. I had a really awful smear experience earlier this year so now I'm scared of any exams.

I already have a medical exemption card for a different condition so I don't know if they'll offer me one for pregnancy.

pollykins151 · 22/10/2018 16:46

@jacquejacque so pleased about your scan!!

@Tryingtoswallow101 everything crossed for you for tonight!! X

Torsz · 22/10/2018 16:49

@Kescilly please don't worry about it being internal - I always find smears uncomfortable but scans aren't at all. They just lube up a rounded plastic thing and put it in - it's not at all painful!

JBCG · 22/10/2018 16:51

Just went for an internal scan as my gp was concerned about cramping on the left side of my womb. Internal scan showed a black blob in my womb but the gynae said that because I was so early (no heart beat or evidence of a baby in the black blob) there was no way to tell whether I was having a viable pregnancy or potentially ectopic. I have to go back for another internal scan in 2 weeks when they'll be able to hopefully see more. He did add 'if you don't mc by then' which made me quite upset I must admit. Not quite the bedside manner I was expecting.

jacquejacque · 22/10/2018 17:01

@Kescilly mine was internal and - apart from a small amount of cramping now - it was totally fine. Not sure DH expected to watch another bloke stick a wand up his wifes hooha today though - especially since it's his birthday 😄

Skee · 22/10/2018 17:09

@jacquejacque 🙈😂

@JBCG 😕 not the most tactful or wording, hope you’re ok x x

toasterstrudle · 22/10/2018 17:22

Great news on successful scans!

@JBCG I had similar before. I do sometimes wish medical professionals could remember that patients are quite sensitive and be a bit more tactful!

I still don't have much by way of symptoms yet, but only 5+6. Trying not to wish for the sickness as ended up with hg last time! Usually doesn't kick in until around 6/7 weeks with me anyway.

I've got my booking app for 8th Nov and scan booked for 7th Dev! Exciting now. Also waiting on a call back for EPU early scan (given history). Trying to manage my emotions and not get my hopes up too much but it does all feel exciting that things are moving along!

Reastiepeace · 22/10/2018 17:35

Jacque that made me laugh!

SpunBodgeSquarepants · 22/10/2018 17:36

Out of interest @Kescilly, what is your BMI? Mine is 43. I'm
6+5 am d thinking I'll have to have an internal scan due to the weight on my tummy! Actually feeling a bit guilty about it as I don't want to make the sonographer's job difficult.

Kescilly · 22/10/2018 17:56

It’s hard to say because our scale is so erratic, but I’d guess somewhere between 33 and 34. I have a lot of guilt about it but I have brought it down a bit over the past year. I thought we’d be TTC longer and was worried about my age, so didn’t want to wait too long. I’m worried about how I’ll be treated after reading so many stories online.
