@Tryingtoswallow101 hand holding, hope that you got your referral and all goes well today

SassehMonsta · 22/10/2018 11:48

Schrodingers baby made me properly laugh @Kescilly!

Been for booking in appointment. Lots of questions about previous health, previous pregnancies, family histories and a nice long page of mental health questions. Given some information to take away, given some blood to the lovely midwife, checked my weight, blood pressure, and took a urine sample to sent off. She's sent a request to the hospital for my dating scan, and talked me through what to expect.

I have declined the GTT. I will agree to blood glucose monitoring but I don't want to drink the vile sugary stuff again. It's my choice though so that's ok! I will be referred to consultant due to medical history and HG, but hope to be signed off before birth, all being well.

In all, a good appointment.

But, I want to make you all aware, if you don't like or get on with your midwife, ASK FOR A NEW ONE. There should be that option even if they have to work some sort of magic. I hated my last midwife and so glad I changed - a friend had her at the same time and didn't like her one bit, the whole way through her pregnancy. This one was lovely - it's been 4 years and staff change. :)

Pigriver · 22/10/2018 11:50

Best of luck @tryingtoswallow101 xxxx

There must be something in the water around here. What a nightmare trying to book in. I finally have an appointment for the 16th November Shock which is during work time which is massively frowned in here so I'm going to have to spill

Torsz · 22/10/2018 12:01

Good to read about your appointment @SassehMonsta - ours is tomorrow so it's nice to have a heads up of what will happen!

What do you mean about the sugary drink? This is all new to me 😂

Tryingtoswallow101 · 22/10/2018 12:05

Thanks for all the well wishes ladies.

I did get the referral over to EPU but they won’t be able to see me until Friday!!

Obviously I cannot wait that long so lovely DH has found an early scan for 7pm tonight. So hoping that will give me the reassurance I need.

Spotting has stopped but still cramping. GP said it sounds completely normal but best to get checked out anyway. Especially considering previous miscarriage.

All positive thinking and hand holds much appreciated.

fee1234 · 22/10/2018 12:06

@SassehMonsta thanks for the info it's helpful! My first midwife appointment is Wednesday.

Torsz · 22/10/2018 12:10

Good luck @Tryingtoswallow101 - I really hope your scan goes well xx

Napssavelives · 22/10/2018 12:11

@SassehMonsta the mental health questions scare me! I have quite a complex mental health history (kinda.. more I have been pretty messed up due to childhood abuse). Anyway I go the therapy (private) eat well, exercise regularly and do all the things I need to do to stay well.. I don’t want some midwife who’s not really trained in my issues trying to probe and get info out of me. I Can’t lie either as obvious self harm scars, fear judgement. I’m actually very well and high functioning, just had some crappy stuff happen.

jacquejacque · 22/10/2018 12:12

@tryingtoswallow101 Glad to hear the spotting has stopped. Mine stopped fairly quickly too and I had some weird cramos and other feelings which just sent me into a spiral of anxiety, so I do really empathise and understand what you're going through. Even during the scan I was laid there thinking the worst, I was properly taken aback when they said it was all fine. Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you tonight, please do come back and let us know how you get on.

Reastie · 22/10/2018 12:49

Tryingtoswallow sending lots of positive vibes your way

Sass thanks for the info, I don’t really remember my booking in apt at all other than I nearly fainted when she took blood (I’m not a fainty or a blood phobe it just made me feel really faint for some reason). Last time I had a wonderful mw who understood me so if I get a nasty one I will request another, a,though I’m not sure how you’d go about doing that? I’m the kind of person that would be too scared to tell the mw I was seeing I wanted another one.

Mrsssmith11 · 22/10/2018 13:02

I've had 2 booking appointments, one with DD 5 years ago, and one earlier this year. I've never had to give blood or do a urine sample at the booking appointment. I had to do both of those things at my 12 week scan. I guess different places do it differently.

7+3 today and still struggling with nausea. Trying to eat little and often. Also struggling to drink enough to keep hydrated, because I feel nauseous I just don't feel like drinking anything. I did discover this morning though that a hot blackcurrant goes down quite well, as long as it is made quite weak. I've drunk more today than I have in ages.

Hello to all the new people.

My mum is planning to buy tickets to go see Pink when she comes to Scotland in June next year. I've just had to tell her I can't go, but don't want to tell her over text why I can't go. It's 2 weeks after my EDD. I went 12 days over when I had DD. They won't let me go the 2 weeks over because I had an EMCS, so it could potentially only be a week after giving birth. Absolutely gutted to not be going, but totally worth it!!

KoalasAteMyHomework · 22/10/2018 13:22

@jacquejacque so glad all was well at the scan
And @tryingtoswallow101 I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you x

JBCG · 22/10/2018 13:28

@Tryingtoswallow101 wishing you the best xx

I am waiting the results of my blood work from last Thursday. I'm 5+4 and have a liver condition that is significantly effected by increased oestrogen so doctors have advised first tri is going to be most dangerous for me. Had all my normal booking in bloods along with my liver function so fingers crossed all is well!

Was feeling a little concerned yesterday at lack of symptoms but obviously tempted fate because nausea has hit like a steam train this afternoon. Had to go and hide in a meeting room at work for 10 minutes while I tried to recoup!

Stormwhale · 22/10/2018 13:29

@Tryingtoswallow101 - good luck at your scan later. Fingers crossed all is ok.

@jacquejacque - fantastic news all is ok!

Had a scan today and all is ok! The nurse thinks the extra pain may be due to my health problems. That's fine, I can take the pain as long as baby is ok.

SassehMonsta · 22/10/2018 13:47

The sugary drink is gestational diabetes related- of you are at risk (ie, family history, previous diabetes, over a certain BMI) then at 16 or 28 weeks they do a Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT). This involves having bloods, drinking a certain amount of sugary liquid, waiting 2 hours (not allowed to leave!) And then repeating bloods. I hated it so much last time I have opted out. They repeat at 6 weeks post-partum if you end up with gestational diabetes and that's vile too.

SassehMonsta · 22/10/2018 13:49

As for the mental health questions, just be honest. It's just to judge if you need extra support that they can provide. I disclosed.previous issues but stated that currently it's well managed and I have good support in place. They can refer you t9 specialist help if you want to be - but you can ask not to be, it's your choice and your.health. if you are stable and already under a specalisit MH team, then just let them know :) If you are struggling, they can signpost you towards talking therapies, or more active interventions if required.

stellarfox · 22/10/2018 13:50

Hello new people! Good to note about the midwife @sass, I had no idea what to expect and I have mine on Thursday! My symptoms disappeared for a few days but I’ve got a sore back, boobs and some mild cramping again. I’m 7+4 now! Still on holiday but hoping to get home on weds to a letter for a scan in the next week or so. Otherwise I might book a private one! The lady at the EPU also said I should come back when I get back but I don’t really want to use their time up unless I need to.

@Tryingtoswallow101 good luck at your scan fx

Skee · 22/10/2018 14:18

Just checking in! Hi and congratulations to the newest members 👋🎉

Great news on positive appointments and scans, really please for you @jacquejacque!

Hand holding to those who are anxious x x

Back rubs to all those with nausea x x

My stomach feels like it’s burning a hole in itself 😩

Just booked in for my flu jag... it’s not until the end of November, thinking I might just pop to the chemist 🤔

Torsz · 22/10/2018 14:29

@Skee I couldn't book one for ages but the. I went to the doctor about something else and she offered to just do it there and then! Might be worth booking an appointment and asking?

Blondcat · 22/10/2018 14:33

@skee I just went to asda with dh to get mine as didn't want to wait for gp one mid November. They send a letter to your gp to tell them you had it and it is free they didn't need proof of pregnancy. Just booked a couple of days in advance.

samanthajonespr · 22/10/2018 14:33

Pleased to say scan went well, strong heartbeat and all in the right place and right for dates. Thanks for the well-wishes ladies

Skee · 22/10/2018 14:51

Great news @samanthajonespr!

Thanks very much @torsz and @blondcat. I don’t need to see the doc for anything, but I live 10mins from an Asda with a chemist so I’ll pop in there! x x

Reastiepeace · 22/10/2018 15:17

So do we get flu jabs on nhs if we’re pg? Is that recommended during first trimester? I’m not sure a chemist would do it if you said you were pg. I know in the past I’ve lied and said I wasn’t bfing when I was because they wouldn’t do it even though it was safe.

Does anyone know about getting a certificate for free prescriptions? Dh collected a couple of pg prescriptions for me at the week end and I told him not to pay and tick the pg bit on the back and he said the pharmacist was really off as he didn’t show a certificate or something to prove I was pg. said he was risking a £100 fine or something. Don’t remember this last time.

Samantha that’s fantastic, great news.

I’m so so tired here.

Torsz · 22/10/2018 15:20

@Reastiepeace yes we get the flu jab for free when pregnant as it's really important for us to get one - you can have it at any stage but they recommend ASAP as it takes a couple of weeks to take effect.

I was told I'd get the form for free prescriptions from the midwife - not sure if it's at the booking in appointment or the next one ☺️

Mrsssmith11 · 22/10/2018 15:22

@Reastiepeace when I was pregnant earlier this year I got a certificate of exemption through the door. It came not long after my booking appointment. I didn't get one when I was pregnant with DD 5 years ago.
