I ventured to the local pool tonight (first time ever) and managed 20 slow lengths in about 30-40 minutes. Was really relaxing but am feeling absolutely shattered now, hoping for a good nights sleep 😴

toastfiend · 17/10/2018 22:28

Glad to have given everyone a chuckle! I've been laughing at it all evening and feeling like a terrible future parent as a result! πŸ˜‚

Angelmiracle · 17/10/2018 22:44

I love that scan @toastfiend it's so cool. It's nice to have something different than the usual pose!

@BadBadBeans yes I was and will still be writing it when my funding finishes, luckily we are keeping DD in nursery 2 mornings a week so I can have some time to write it.

melissa112 · 18/10/2018 08:18

@Nightmanagerfan so sorry to hear how unwell you have been. Hope you are feeling better soon and good to hear you've been able to keep fluids down.

@toastfiend haha i love your scan pic!! Our baby turned to face my belly on the 12 week scan and looked just like your pic, I had such a shock. Such an amazing picture you've got there!

melissa112 · 18/10/2018 08:22

@TheWanderlust hope you got a good night's sleep after your swimming!

@Bluebelltulip congratulations on coming to the end of your PHD!

TheWanderlust · 18/10/2018 08:36

@melissa112 it was bliss ... a few sprays of lavender and camomile sleep mist on my pillow and I was off to sleep in no time. Managed about 6 hours before waking up which was very welcome!

Nightmanagerfan · 18/10/2018 09:15

@melissa112 feeling lots better now thanks. Managed to negotiate late check out so had a lazy morning before we move to our next hotel (different location).

@toastfiend that photo is hilarious and brilliant!! Our baby definitely didn’t do that at the scan

wordsmithereens · 18/10/2018 09:38

@nightmanagerfan Glad you're feeling better! Better luck on the next leg of your trip.

@Thewanderlust Hurrah on the swimming! Nothing as lovely as a post exercise sleep.

@toastfiend I am actually disappointed the sonographer didn't give us a head on shot. This close to Halloween as well, it should be part of the standard repertoire!

Angelmiracle · 18/10/2018 12:53

My sister is due in 10 days and has asked me if it's normal for your down below area to be swollen and 'sticking out' more! I didn't have this with DS have any of you? Does it sound normal close to birth?

OP posts:
Murphyrocks · 18/10/2018 13:06

@Angelmiracle yes I had that in the 2-3 weeks leading up to birth and worsened during labour, but went down in the days post-labour. I was actually asked during labour if I was ok as I was so swollen! Sorry to scare all the ftms!

Nightmanagerfan · 18/10/2018 13:27

@angelmiracle a friend of mine had that from about 8 months - she said it was awful but that freezing a sanitary pad and putting it on made some difference. Flipping heck pregnancy is a barrel of laughs isn’t it!

Angelmiracle · 18/10/2018 13:28

Thanks @Murphyrocks she'll be reassured to know it's normal as she was worried and I had no experience of it!

My pelvis is really sore like around the top of my pelvic bone just below where the baby is. It was achey yesterday but I could not get up from lying on my right side last night I had to let my legs fall out of the bed to get up. It was achey more so this morning and when I sneezed it was so painful. I hope it's just ligaments not PGP.

Angelmiracle · 18/10/2018 13:31

I will give her that tip @Nightmanagerfan 😁 she said her underwear is rather uncomfortable atm and she's still at work!
I'm definitely having more issues this time compared to DS but that was 6 years ago maybe I dont remember!!

OP posts:
Murphyrocks · 18/10/2018 13:54

No worries @angelmiracle. Yes I'm definitely finding it tougher this time round too but comforting myself that I'll never have to do it again! Also if she's not in maternity underwear already I'd definitely recommend it, the extra space helps...

Nightmanagerfan · 18/10/2018 14:01

@murphyrocks @angelmiracle maternity pants are the best - I got a three pack from H&M which turns out to be the best Β£9.99 I’ve spent... I need some more but don’t want to spend that much really. Any other recommendations for comfy, preferably cotton pants?

Murphyrocks · 18/10/2018 14:05

@nightmanagerfan absolutely! I've got these ones whicg are great but the same cost as your H&M ones... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0746FPKJH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_CsiYBbJ38A794?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Angelmiracle · 18/10/2018 14:11

@Nightmanagerfan @murphyrocks I never realised you can get maternity underwear Blush Of course you can lol I just kept changing size and style!

OP posts:
Nightmanagerfan · 18/10/2018 14:27

@angelmiracle they’re amazing! I think it’s the cut at the front so they don’t dig in and being very soft. Lots of my other pants dig into my abdomen and leave a line.

@murphyrocks they look good too. Will keep an eye out

wordsmithereens · 18/10/2018 15:06

Ohhh, I had no idea either those existed. Tempted to get some soon, for now I have some stretchy ones which work, but can imagine they won't last.

Wineandchoccy · 18/10/2018 15:56

Have you seen that the safety of baby boxes is being questioned? It was on radio 2 Jeremy vine show at lunchtime. www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-45889226

melissa112 · 18/10/2018 16:43

@Nightmanagerfan glad you are feeling better and hope you have better luck on the rest of your holiday!

@TheWanderlust sounds lovely and 6 hours is great non stop!

I've had a pretty rubbish day and worrying about what to do. Last night I had a pain about an inch above my belly button, almost as if I'd been leaning on something with my belly and it was sore (I haven't been leaning on anything but was similar to how I've felt pre pregnancy when washing up and leaning on the worktop with my belly..)

Went out with my mum to the garden centre last night after work anyway and didn't think much of it. Last night quite late on I still felt the pain but then also pressure in my pelvis, particularly when I went for a wee (sorry TMI).

Today I woke up with the same but as the day went on at work the belly pain became cramp like and got quite bad so I rang the triage and spoke to a midwife. She told me to go home if I could, put my feet up and take paracetamol and if it got worse or there was bleeding to call them back

That was around 11ish and I came home and basically just slept from then until about 4ish on and off. The cramping is less now in my belly but it just feels like a general uncomfortable feeling, like pressure?

Does this sound normal, or has anyone experienced it? I'm hoping it's just normal stretching aches and pains but just worrying about the baby. As it's not got worse I don't feel like I can ring back the triage and don't want to waste their time.

Kee80 · 18/10/2018 17:01

Hi hope everyone is well.

Just read that sleeping on your back isn't safe or recommenced in pregnancy!
Anyone know how accurate this is? I'm 18+2 and can only get comfy by laying on my back, now I'm worried

Murphyrocks · 18/10/2018 17:05

@melissa112 it sounds like normal stretching pains to me (mine have been pretty intense this time particularly around my belly button) but please never worry about bothering triage - that's what they're there for and they would much rather you called if you're worried.

Angelmiracle · 18/10/2018 17:07

@Kee80 hey! Yeah this is do with the weight of baby pressing on a main blood vessel that can restrict blood flow to baby I think and leave you maybe feeling dizzy or faint. I'm a tummy sleeper but love lying on my back when pregnant. But I'm 17 weeks tomorrow and can feel more pressure lying on my back so trying to stick to either side.
