I’ve been scared to lie on my back for anything more than a few seconds!

AliceRR · 12/10/2018 18:54

What are you all doing about a maternity coat? I thought I’d be ok in my normal coat but the one I wear now is quite snug. It just about zips up but I expect to get bigger. Don’t want to spend a lot on something I will only wear for a few months...

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 12/10/2018 19:05

I never bothered with a maternity coat. Just stuck with my normal one and wore good jumpers and a scarf with it.

Celebelly · 12/10/2018 19:05

I got one from Asda for £30. It's great.

AutumnLee12 · 12/10/2018 19:06

@AliceRR I was thinking the exact same thing! Seems silly to buy a maternity coat but my one won't last me much longer! I was thinking maybe a cape/poncho type coat as technically that will last during and after pregnancy. Just need to find a nice one now!

Yakadee · 12/10/2018 19:31

I actually lucked out with a coat. My sister has lost loads of weight so we've traded coats. X

welshweasel · 12/10/2018 19:35

I got a coat last time from the Jojo outlet - it was great for during and after pregnancy. I lent it to a friend when she was pregnant and I’ll use it again this time. I struggled on with my usual coats for ages but it was nice to have a coat that actually fitted.

Since2016 · 12/10/2018 20:03

Not bothering. It’s SO mild here still I’m just going to go with what I did last time - wear my existing as long as poss and then open with scarves. I have an oversized fur which will do me towards the end and I can nick DH’s parka 😂

AliceRR · 12/10/2018 20:11

I may just see how it get on with the one I’ve been wearing and I’ve got another coat I can try. It’s not that cold but when it’s windy it’s nice to be able to zip up

Lookingforadvice123 · 12/10/2018 20:18

The weather here has been horrendous today so I feel like I need a rain coat! I've been wearing my nice Joules one and it still does up (size 10! Makes me feel better even though my bump is enormous) but I don't want to risk stretching it. I can wear it open but on days when it's pissing it down I feel like I need a proper one!

twiglet · 12/10/2018 20:31

I'm still in my usual winter coat thankfully it has a bit of space as long as I'm not wearing a thick jumper.

Going to see how long I last. My DH has a big winter jacket for walking the dog might steal that if I need to! 😂

Since2016 · 12/10/2018 20:36

I think it totally depends on where you live weather wise too. London is never THAT cold for that long plus tubes are boiling! But obv if you live somewehere where it’s already cold (ie not in freak town here where I didn’t need a coat or a jumper today!) then it’s worthwhile investing.

Made the decision yesterday not to go back after Christmas. I’m taking annual leave till mid Jan and then starting mat leave at 37 weeksish which will be approx 2 weeks before c section. I was planning on going back for a week but tbh the commute is so stressful and so busy I just can’t face it. So on a countdown!

Lulabell1 · 12/10/2018 20:55

The whole laying on your back thing i learnt from this thread. Slept on my back whole way through my last pregnancy was never told by anyone i couldnt so i asked midwife she said that its not necessarily to do with pregnancy even people with a higher bmi shouldnt lay on their backs when sleeping due to the weight, thats why its inly really stated later on in pregnancy...she told dont really worry about it unless you feel like you are heavy when on your back? What ever that means!!

twiglet · 12/10/2018 20:58

Haha yep you definitely need a winter jacket in North Scotland!

I've been trying to work out shared parental leave it's a bit of a minefield thankfully my HR begrudgingly agreed that I don't have to put the form in until after 3 months after birth (as DH will be using the end) which gives us a lot more time to sort dates.

emalady · 12/10/2018 21:33

My "fat coat" is now pretty snug over boobs and bump. Will have a look in outlets for a cheap maternity coat or smart poncho type thing. Keep saying I will stop spending money and then realising I have to look smart rather than drowned at work!!

Yakadee · 12/10/2018 21:44

Totally different note

Yakadee · 12/10/2018 21:45

Flipping hell, pressed too quick.
Yeah husband has just asked me how I can be ready for bed at 9:35pm! Lol!

He has no idea that it takes me everything I have to not fall asleep at 8! Haha z

Camsie30 · 12/10/2018 21:47

@DragonFlew do you have to watch all of the videos? I'm confused about where the quizzes are. help! x

Baby160P · 12/10/2018 21:51

I second the one from Asda online.

I have a khaki Parker that has a section in the middle bit you can take out once baby is here and love it

Baby160P · 12/10/2018 21:52

£30

Surprisedmom · 12/10/2018 21:54

@Since2016 I am also on the countdown to Christmas even though I actually only started work full time this week. I’m a supply teacher and just don’t see the worth in only going back for a few weeks in Jan, especially as I live in the sticks and the weather can be really cold and the roads icy and dangerous. My journey home today was delayed by half an hour due to a tree in the forest falling across the main road. I imagine such events will be even more common in January.

lanalawr · 12/10/2018 22:02

I bought a maternity coat from New Look for £30. I'm usually a cold person so decided I couldn't get by with an open coat and scarf. Especially when I'm trying to just use my maternity clothes from last time (mainly summer stuff). It's been foul here today so I was glad of it.

powkin · 12/10/2018 22:11

@Camsie30 - you can skip through them and then when you’ve “watched” 13 you do a super easy quiz. They are actiallly very good though so worth coming back to, especially ones about car seats, a hot topic here!

powkin · 12/10/2018 22:13

So to add to the cramp this morning my dad has told me the rash on my back is shingles YEY. Come down to see them this weekend and he’s a nurse, I was praying it was a reaction to my new maternity tights, as it’s around that spot but noooooo.

maxiflump1 · 12/10/2018 22:15

Re coats I bought a maternity one in new look this week for £30. They seem to resale really well on eBay so will sell it on this time next year!

@Since2016 I'm starting my maternity leave at the end of November! Had a super stressful job (detective in a child protection unit) and am going to extend my mat leave with a years career break (plus I was due to work all over xmas and new year if I stayed!)
