Baby160P · 11/10/2018 12:13

Team blue for us too, had the reveal last night. So pleased!

OH is the only boy if his generation with 5 sisters and all girl cousins so the name going down the family is up to us.
Glad number one did it whilst great grandparents are still around 💙

emalady · 11/10/2018 12:25

Travel system officially bought and MIL kindly also bought us a leaf baby bouncer for the front room.
Now to focus on clearing the kitchen ready for the building work Monday. Fun and games!!

I’m in the reusable nappy club and was planning to use them from birth. It helps that I live with my parents though, who cloth nappied 4 kids (5.5years between us in total) in the 80s/90s when things seemed much less advanced than today. I’ve ordered some to look at the quality/ease already and am quite excited by all the fun patterns.

For the first few weeks i’m just going to use muslins with nappy Nippas (www.thenappylady.co.uk/essential-accessories/nappi-nippas-snappis.html) as the main nappies will probably be a bit big for birth weight. I’m also planning to buy some of these little lamb ones for nighttime (www.thenappylady.co.uk/shaped-sized-nappies/little-lamb-bamboo.html) as they’re a good deal at 5 for £25 and well reviewed.

Also, to anyone planning on buying totsbots their trial kit is heavily discounted on their website at the moment, so you get 3 nappies/covers for just £28 which is a really good deal given how pricey they usually are.

Lookingforadvice123 · 11/10/2018 13:10

Good bargain Lulabell1! We had very similar when we bought our mamas and Papas travel system as the colour was being discontinued.

Another person who used Cow and Gate here, from 1 month to 12 months. No issues whatsoever.

I haven't bought a single thing for this baby, and I don't think I will until I get the snuzpod etc. As he's my second I don't need to get loads, so still feels like I've got ages!

AliceRR · 11/10/2018 13:16

I haven’t bought anything yet either both because I don’t want to buy “too early”, storage and thinking I might get some deals in January sales.

I’d like a silver cross wave or pioneer travel system but haven’t heard good things about their car seat so will probably go for a cybex or maxi cosi car seat. There is a SC factory outlet near our house.

I’d like the snuzpod3 for sleep so not even bothering with a proper cot or bedroom furniture or anything like that yet.

I assumed I’d use disposable nappies and probably wet wipes but you ladies are making me think about using reusable ones and cloths too. I will start looking into that.
Haven’t even thought about

AliceRR · 11/10/2018 13:17

Not sure what end of last post was but I probably want a bouncer for straight away too 🤔

AliceRR · 11/10/2018 13:19

Does anyone know are there usually decent discounts on baby stuff in Jan sales? I’m thinking the big purchases like pram, car seat, snuz pod etc.

I can’t help wonder if baby items are one of those classes of item that people will buy anyway if they need so maybe aren’t discounted as much

Since2016 · 11/10/2018 13:26

@AliceRR we have the silver cross simplicity car seat and had no issues. It got a decent safety rating on which when used with isofix but is only for RF and group 0 so isn’t an all stages.

Not bought a thing 😂 will do in Jan possibly. I didn’t find ‘big’ items came on sale but Jan sales good for clothes!

emalady · 11/10/2018 13:58

Our silver Cross pioneer system was on sale as end of the colour, I assumed even if it was in the sales it wouldn't be much better. Was hoping bedding might be on sale in January though.
I'm going to have a look and see if we have a sling library nearby. Might also see if there is anything similar for reusable nappies as there seems to be an overwhelming amount of options!

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 11/10/2018 14:19

I've found that the big stuff like Iran's are never heavily discounted so never bothered waiting for the sales with DD. Was always much better for getting out of season clothes in bigger sizes for next summer/winter.

Notquiteagandt · 11/10/2018 14:52

@AliceRR not usually as suppliers stipulate prices and alot are against discounting. They are not seasonal products and dont have a high margin with high taxes so stores dont have a reason to discount.

Your best bet would be black friday where stores have x% off whole store of £x off purchases over £x

The snuzpod 3 is a new model so unlikely to be marked down. Ditto prams and carseats.

The big baby trade shows are septemeber / october time which usually are launched soon after. Novembers a big month for new product launch. So black friday maybe oportunity for stores to clear a bit off stock.

AliceRR · 11/10/2018 15:08

OK thanks ladies

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 11/10/2018 15:11

Was going to say Black Friday/cyber Monday are generally better than January sales.

emalady · 11/10/2018 15:57

That's interesting. Might have to see what else we need and make a list to check prices on black Friday.

Fredthespider · 11/10/2018 16:50

We're going along to the mothercare expectant parents event where you apparently get a 10% off voucher so will pick up a few bits then. The travel system we've already picked and the best value is from them already, then some little bits that aren't too overpriced so with the 10% will make it cheaper.

anothermnname · 11/10/2018 18:14

We brought the snuzpod 3! It's lovely! We looked at the 2
Version but it was the same price!!

DragonFlew · 11/10/2018 18:32

I kindly got given a silver cross travel system Inc car seat and bought an isofix so have all that sorted. I have all the nursery furniture with cot bed from DS1&2. All i really need is clothes and a crib. I'm not getting a moses basket this time as they're not in them long enough so going to get the chicco next2me. I looked at that and the snuzpod3 but I like that the chicco is bigger and also has the lip to stop baby falling into the gap when slightly older and stop my quilt going over the cot onto baby. Although I think the snuzpod is more attractive looking!
Now I'm on DC3 I'm more practical than stylish lol!
My scan is tomorrow morning! Can't wait x

Celebelly · 11/10/2018 18:37

I really liked the Snuzpod but it won't fit on our bed whereas the Chicco Next2Me does so we're going for that one. I have bought a Moses basket but it was only £40 from Asda so it's not a disaster if we don't use it much - it's really just to keep downstairs/use for going between bedroom and rest of house as I don't want to hulk anything heavy up and down the stairs.

DragonFlew · 11/10/2018 18:51

@celebelly good idea. I am getting a travel cot for downstairs- one with the bottom that raises up and has a changing table on the top. Its the best and safest option for us with DS1&2 charging about and a hyper dog!
This can then double as a playpen when baby is old enough. Keeping him/her safe from the chaos haha!

Celebelly · 11/10/2018 18:52

Ooh that's a good idea (as someone who also has a hyper dog!). Which travel cot is that? We do have space for something bigger. I'm a little worried about the stability of a Moses basket if we're using it on the stand. Our dog isn't big but she does like to zoom around sometimes!

DragonFlew · 11/10/2018 19:19

@celebelly I saw a cheapish one in the asda baby event, and saw one in mama's and paper yesterday that was a higher price I think it was Nuna range was good as had a pocket for nappies and wipes etc.
I'm looking for the ones that have a vibrate function as I think they'll.be helpful!

Notquiteagandt · 11/10/2018 19:26

@celebelly and @DragonFlew the nuna one is fantastic!! Easy to fold up and down and the sales rep sales pitch used to be them standing on the frame with out it so much as wobbling 😂😂😂

Does anyone else pretty much spend their time now playing guess the body part or just watching their bump constantly squirm about with random lumps. Swear this hyperactive child of mine is having a one woman party in their. Im fascinated by it.

Nieve of me as my 1st baby but I had no idea how intense it would be and its only going to get more and more so.

Celebelly · 11/10/2018 19:29

My partner hasn't been able to feel baby yet :( it feels like she's kicking quite hard but he's had his hand on and not felt it. I'm sure he will soon.

Thanks for the recs, I'll go take a look! This is our first so I've literally no idea about most things. Pretty sure we'll end up with stuff we don't need or use, but I think that's probably par for the course!

DragonFlew · 11/10/2018 19:41

How many weeks are you @celebelly. My husband has only felt baby once and I'm 20+4. With my first he couldn't feel anything until 22w x
