@Yakadee
Yes I have that test In November x

Baby160P · 05/10/2018 12:35

By the way I too have worked for people who obviously adore their children and would be there at the drop of a hat and have to just go to work to live and support their children or I have babysat for their nights out and I respect those people as you say it's needed very much!

BUT we were simply discussing the other end of things which baffles me

Alicejj8x · 05/10/2018 12:39

@Baby160P
Exactly by no means as I saying everyone is the same parent wise at all

Just in our jobs I think it is a lot different

Like you I've done first hair cut , taken them to hospital and doctors .. first jabs 1 year check up and reviews etc etc

It's very hard and I understand that parents find it hard to juggle work and childcare and defo do need their own time tooo but sometimes I jisy find it abit sad when I see things from the side we do

Celebelly · 05/10/2018 12:39

I assume I'll have to do the GTT as my BMI was just over 30 when I got pg, but it hasn't been mentioned yet! Maybe they'll arrange it at my 24-week appointment.

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 12:42

@yakadee @Alicejj8x I have it too. Not too worried about not eating, more drinking the drink and sitting at the hospital for 2+ hours 🙈

@Alicejj8x like you say everyone has their own opinions and experiences but I’d let it go now

Since2016 · 05/10/2018 12:49

@yakadee my parents are in Patagonia (I know!) for 3 weeks and nursery have no space! It’s first thing but I’m not looking forward to entertaining her in the hospital for 3 hours! You’re not allowed to walk around too much etc as it will burn it off so we can’t even go to the canteen!

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 12:57

@Since2016 we must be able to go to the cafe / canteen in the hospital??

Baby160P · 05/10/2018 12:59

@Alicejj8x exactly. There's a wider world out there.

I have GTT booked in a few weeks.... I don't have a toddler and I'm dreading having to sit still for that long! I feel for you.

Mine says I'm not allowed to walk even to the canteen. They basically want to see what your body does with the sugars without you moving around.

Since2016 · 05/10/2018 12:59

Sorry I meant ‘we’ as in toddler DD and I. In my hospital the canteen is a long walk, two lifts and another long walk! If it’s closer then I’m sure that’d be fine - but maybe ask?

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 13:09

@Since2016 Yes I realised you had meant you and DD but assumed I might be the same for all of us eg they sit you in a room and ask you not to move unless to go to the loo!

I previously had thought I might be able to go to work (my work is 5 mins from hospital) but someone previously said on here that wouldn’t be an option as you’re not supposed to walk around.

I don’t love the idea of sitting in the waiting room for hours but I suppose I will take a book or download something to watch on my tablet and take my earphones / headphones!

I could potentially work if I could take my laptop and get online but not sure whether hospitals have WiFi you can use?? Then again might just be uncomfortable sitting in the waiting room trying to work...

Yakadee · 05/10/2018 13:11

Mine doesn't say anything other than show up and don't eat etc.

Our hospital has a play area in the same room so maybe that'll help keep her occupied for some of the time if yours does? When I have my son I go armed with snacks that take a while to eat to kill some time lol.

Did I see somebody post something about what you're not supposed to eat the day before? Xx

Alicejj8x · 05/10/2018 13:14

@AliceRR
I have let it go there wasn't ever a reason for this in the first place me and @Baby160P are allowed to talk

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 13:16

I found my letter - says stay around the clinic area - to be fair the cafe isn’t far at all although I don’t know if I’d really rather sit there if I can’t eat or drink other than water...

Book / Netflix it is!

Due Feb 2019 - we’re halfway!
Since2016 · 05/10/2018 13:18

@Yakadee - no play area in antenatal sadly! She’s very good so with snacks and books well hopefully be ok but I may buy a special treat magazine or something if all hell is breaking loose!

@alicerr I hadn’t even thought of it until I mentioned it to someone at work who had to repeat it because they walked around saying hello to people (used to work there)!

Yakadee · 05/10/2018 13:20

@AliceRR - Yeah I didn't get anything like your letter? I'm thinking book or Netflix too - abyt

Yakadee · 05/10/2018 13:21

(Pressed too quick!)

Anything to make the time go quicker!

How soon do you get the results? Could you have diabetes and totally not know? I've always told myself that there would be signs but not sure now? X

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 13:22

@Since2016 Ha! Well at least we know and can plan.

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 13:23

Incidentally my colleague did it a couple of weeks ago and was sick. I don’t know the full story as it was her manager who told me she’d gone home due to that but made me wonder how sickly it is! I think someone else said it was just like warm orange juice and not that bad...

Since2016 · 05/10/2018 13:26

Ugh sounds grim. Didn’t have to do it last time although MW said my bloods looked fine so hopefully unlikely. 🤞🏻🤞🏻.

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 13:27

@Yakadee I booked at hospital when I was in with consultant after 20 week scan and they gave me that. They are a bit hit and miss with info though like with 20 wk scan when some of us didn’t know whether to have a full bladder or not.

Let me know if you have any Netflix download recommendations!!

I quite like The Good Place for something lighthearted

The Letdown(?) is good

Yakadee · 05/10/2018 13:39

@AliceRR - my new fave is Atypical - I think it's fab, quite funny too. X

Baby160P · 05/10/2018 15:43

Wonder is now on Netflix if anyone fancies a cry! ❤️

AliceRR · 05/10/2018 16:01

Thanks I will take a look at both of those! 😊

twiglet · 05/10/2018 16:36

Its been busy on here today!

I've pretty much been a zombie most of the day. Had to push back a deadline to Mon as I knew I would make mistakes if I sent it today which I hated doing but definitely for the best!

Also realised today that I have 2 weeks to sort out my maternity notification/leave form and I don't have a mat b cert! DH has just started a new job still in the same council but different department. I don't have a clue what to put, originally we were doing 9/3 split and then he was having a sabbatical for a Yr.

Now it's no sabbatical and will have to wait a Yr to see if they let him go pt as I was due to be going back ft. Still receiving comments on that one from some female colleagues but that's a different thread for a different day!

Not sure HR or my manager will be too happy with unsure box ticked throughout......

twiglet · 05/10/2018 16:37

Ps I did put spaces in that but the app doesn't apply them!
