I have a dream genie but I managed to roll on top. 😩 thanks for the support!

@Lulabell1 I am having a baby shower as it's my first baby and everyone keeps asking.

I've hired a hall and will have close friends and female family there. A friend has a dinner booked but has asked for payment per head. From what others are saying they didn't want to pay £30 for a meal and buy a present on top. It's just too much to ask.

Leonora94 · 02/10/2018 11:01

@HugoBearsMummy Yes we are I can’t wait! :D

Surprisedmom · 02/10/2018 11:28

@Baby160P I think in general the theory is that as we get bigger sleeping on our backs won’t be comfortable anyway so perhaps you’ll stop rolling onto your back then.

This morning my cat came and lay on my stomach when I was lying in bed, it was too much weight for my tummy so I had to shift her. I figure I will probably gain her weight (and a bit more) before the end so lying on my back just won’t be possible further along.

Lookingforadvice123 · 02/10/2018 12:52

Don't worry Baby160p I sometimes wake up on my front partially! I'm trying to stick to my side but I naturally go onto my front.

I'm having a baby shower - well, lovely friends are organising a joint one for me and another friend! I had one organised for me for my first and I said I really don't need another, but my friends are quite insistent (in a nice way!). It'll only be my local friends though, my friends from uni live all over and I would hate for people to feel obliged to come so keeping it my local group.

DragonFlew · 02/10/2018 13:34

Bit late to the party. But i am here!

AliceRR · 02/10/2018 13:50

I don’t want a baby shower. I don’t really like them and it’s not really my thing and I’m a bit superstitious so don’t want gifts before baby is born really.

A friend of mine offered to host one for me (I put a separate post up about it actually) but I’m going to say no.

If I did anything it might be afternoon tea or a meal but asking for no gifts until baby arrives.

If I did have one though it would be jan as I am due mid Feb (for those thinking about timing)

DragonFlew · 02/10/2018 14:14

@hugobearsmummy my scan is also next Friday! Can't wait!

powkin · 02/10/2018 14:17

I have a bbhugme (splurged because it has so many other uses - love it for just sitting on the sofa!). I got a gross colour at a discount as it was old stock. If I’m realllly tired I might stay on my side but usually I end up on my back again. I love sleeping on by back :(
I do wonder how they reached the conclusions around lying on your back, I’ll do some of my own academic research, it seems implausible that any really firm causality could be drawn from real life data, it wouldn’t exactly be ethical to do a controlled trial!
My thinking is that healthy babies have been being born for thousands of years before we had a million bits of advice so although I’ll do my best I’m not going to stress. It’s onlu by doing my own reading that I even found out about it, my midwife certainly didn’t mention it to me at our 16 week appointment.

www.nhs.uk/news/pregnancy-and-child/pregnant-women-should-avoid-sleeping-back-last-trimester/

Very sensible analysis here for people who are anxious.

emalady · 02/10/2018 14:31

@powkin, thanks!

We are going to have a sort of baby shower. I don't like the all female thing as DH is hopefully going to be very involved so we are having a little house party /baby shower in January. Hoping for some second hand bits as all my friends already have kids. Otherwise just a chance for a catch up and possibly tasting baby food!!!

powkin · 02/10/2018 16:10

The thought of a baby shower is horrifying to me, I hate being the centre of attention and am terrible with birthdays so definitely a no from me. I don’t have many friends locally to me either and would spend all my time just worrying about feeding everyone and baking cakes/treats (I’m irish, I can’t help it!). Hopefully I’ll have a little farewell do at work, that would be nice. Because I never have any money I worry about other people’s finances so never want to create situations where people feel pressured to buy something, especially if there’s a risk I won’t use it.

Hope no one takes this as judgement though, this is all my weird internalised shit and is all a bit sad, I’d love to be able to gracefully receive attention and good wishes rather than run a mile in awkwardness!

Yakadee · 02/10/2018 16:35

My sister threw me a shower with for my first and I have to admit I really did cringe. Nice to get everyone together but awkward around expectations for presents etc. I don't want one this time. Wouldn't mind a little get together but low key x

twiglet · 02/10/2018 16:36

Baby showers aren't my cup of tea I'm a bit superstitious about gifts etc as well.

I'm having a girls catch up of lunch with a few friends we generally meet up every few months. Strict instructions of no gifts or baby related cards/cakes etc.

twiglet · 02/10/2018 17:30

Sods law the first time I can feel him kicking from the outside and my DH is out for the evening!

Yakadee · 02/10/2018 17:32

@twiglet - on man! We've done this dance for a while and she stops the minute my hubby comes over! X

Celebelly · 02/10/2018 17:36

I feel like I can feel her kicking from outside but DP can't whenever he tries :(. I think I just feel like I can more because I'm also feeling it from within, though, so it might just need another week or so. I'm so impatient though!

Celebelly · 02/10/2018 17:37

Our car seat just arrived! It's our first big purchase and was £80 off so I'm pleased we got a good deal! I've left DP looking through all the manuals on how to install it Grin Hopefully he'll have it figured out by Feb!

Since2016 · 02/10/2018 17:42

I yawned earlier while chatting with a colleague and felt such a sharp jab in my tummy I asked my colleague if she had poked me with a pen.

Never been so embarrassed. She was so shocked - obviously she didn’t but baby decided to jab me!!! I was completely taken aback it’s the first big proper kick!

Notquiteagandt · 02/10/2018 18:10

So today went shopping for 1st time for clothes. Managed 2 shops and collapsed and had to rush home. Feel like next time need a padded suit 😂

But general concensious is its between seasons so not alot in and quality is awful.

Unsure if its because its my job (im a buyer for baby things!) and im extra fussy.

Anyone seen anything nice in the shops? Preferably nothing with cartoons or patterns on and not to garish.

Only made it as far as m&s and john lewis.

Notquiteagandt · 02/10/2018 18:12

@Since2016 thats so funny! Remember being sat next to a friend once when she was heavily pregnant and feeling something kick me in the side. Was her baby inside her hahaha

Celebelly · 02/10/2018 18:13

Do you mean baby clothes or maternity clothes?

For the former, I've seen some really nice stuff in Next and also Tu have some sweet stuff (the Very Hungry Caterpillar collection is SUPER cute). Mothercare stuff seems quite bland at the moment (at least for girls - it's either bland or too pink and froofroo). But Next has a lot of really cute outfits for boys and girls.

For the latter, I've got a mix of some cheaper bits from Asda and New Look and also a couple of pieces from Jojo Maman Bebe.

Since2016 · 02/10/2018 19:08

@notquiteagandt I was mortified - I just asked on instinct as that’s what it felt like?!! 😂

Re baby things - I’ve not bought anything for this one so haven’t looked but Jojo generally is v nice and the baby gros are thick although small. Also Zara (online) do gorgeous stuff - I buy toddler DDs clothes mostly there. JL is a bit meh but cute and traditional generally. Gap baby stuff - knits especially are nice. Boots also tend to do quite nice bits. Majority of DDs early baby stuff was Jojo though - and MandS also Di built in scratch mitts which we found essential as DD scratched her face.

Notquiteagandt · 02/10/2018 19:11

For baby clothes felt very disapointed what was out there. Got given money for her 1st little outfit and couldnt find a thing. Going to keep looking though. Maybe im just fussy! Just wanted something a bit special. Not to pink. Not to frilly. Not to chavvy. Or covered in cartoons.

Why is it there will be a really cute little dress or something then have a random hedgehog or something sewn on it. Baffles me.

Got some basics sleepsuits & some lovely muslins though and some sleeping bags. So not a wasted trip.

Celebelly · 02/10/2018 19:15

I'm in love with this wee dress from Next.

Due Feb 2019 - we’re halfway!
