I'm on holiday and just started spotting for the first time. 5 or 6 spots of bright red blood on the tissue paper. Just went again and it seems to have stopped for now but I'm so worried. We've been on the go since 5 am getting to the airport, then to our hotel, then walking around the city all day. I'm so worried and don't know what to do :(

earlybirdhasanap · 21/09/2018 20:12

@Dimblebimble where are you? Do you have travel insurance? Have you got any pain?

Popsalot15 · 21/09/2018 20:15

Is anyone else go feeling really sick then immense hunger? Can’t get enough of carbs right now and I’m worried I’ll be putting stones on even before my first scan! Hmm

SurfingOwl · 21/09/2018 20:36

Where are you and do you have medical insurance @Dimblebimble? If it carries on, I’d see if you can get seen. Hopefully it’s nothing but spotting is always worrying.

I hope those who are worrying about lack of symptoms wake up feeling really sick and reassured.

Dimblebimble · 21/09/2018 20:37

@earlybirdhasanap in Paris from today until Monday. We have general european travel insurance through our bank, we don't have to get it for specific trips. No I feel normal apart from the spotting earlier. Just occasional gentle cramps like always....

earlybirdhasanap · 21/09/2018 21:04

@Dimblebimble ok there won't be a shortages of hospitals. Not having any pain is a good thing so fingers crossed for you.
If I were you I would phone your EPU and see if they can book you in when you get back just in case.

frankiefumbles · 21/09/2018 21:08

@Dimblebimble it's probably all okay but such a shame that it's while you are away.

Generally the advice is that if you're not filling a pad, it's okay. Given your cramps/twinges are fairly consistent that's probably also okay. There's not a lot that you can really do whilst you are away. And again, you're probably okay but it's easy to panic.

The only real options (if it doesn't stop) they have to check is to scan you or to check your hcg is rising or falling with two blood tests 48h apart. My first port of call would be to get some pass or liners from the shop because you can keep an eye on it better. If it drips in the loo it always looks worse than it is. Some bleeding is normal! Many people bleed. It can all be fine. If you want to take more action, you could try your GP or EPU in the U.K. if you have the number to arrange some reassurance when you get back. It sucks but there's not a lot you can do about it and hopefully it should just turn to brown spotting and it pass.

There are plenty of things that can cause short term bleeding - I think we've had someone on here or the other thread with one just the other day. Sometimes there can be little pockets of blood that burst in the womb lining where its sealing around and these show as bright red, they can turn brown and stringy but it's still all okay. They can be jostled out by activity etc. They can be seen afterwards on a scan. Thanks

frankiefumbles · 21/09/2018 21:10

@SurfingOwl lol at waking up sick haha I'm not sure about my symptoms but I'll make a note not to complain about lack thereof ;)

Dimblebimble · 21/09/2018 21:24

@frankiefumbles @earlybirdhasanap thanks for the advice and reassurance. The same thing happened 12dpo which I attributed to implantation bleeding. It looks the same, just spots on the paper. I had a spare pad in my bag so I put it on and there's been nothing on that or the toilet paper since (it happened about a few hours ago now). Will cross my fingers and see what it's like in the morning.

I'd been taking pregnancy tests every day and they'd been getting steadily darker but I stopped on Wednesday when I got my clear blue 3+ and don't have any with me to see if my hcg has gone down.

kiltedsheep · 21/09/2018 22:17

@Dimblebimble thinking of you. Tbh if it's just a few drops, you should (God willing) be absolutely fine. But do please ring up your EPU.

I totally agree with everything @frankiefumbles has said! I can only describe my own experience of an MC, which is really very different to what you've described. I was in Brittany back in May when I felt a sudden gush of blood and realised instantly that it wasn't right; we legged it to a pharmacy and I filled a pad within half an hour. I rang my EPU and they were great and booked me in for a scan the day we got back to the UK, and unfortunately it was the news I expected - but honestly, with the amount of bleeding I had, there was no way it was going to be anything else.

I'm really hopeful that your spotting is just that - a bit of spotting - and am sending thoughts and prayers your way Thanks

inkworks273 · 22/09/2018 08:41

Morning everyone.

Hope you're doing ok @Dimblebimble

I'm not sure if it's a coincidence or not but I decided to have some peppermint tea before bed last night and it's the first time in well over a week I haven't woke up with any cramping!

Going to try drinking a cup every morning and evening and see how it goes! I'm going to Fuerteventura a week today so would love to get the cramping under control before I go.

frankiefumbles · 22/09/2018 09:10

@kiltedsheep I had a similar experience. I had pinky discharge the week before which I believe was entirely normal, but each time for me on the day it occurred I had significant cramps (like...the worst period cramps you would get) and a gush. It's quite distinctive and the second time it happened I kind of knew. Sorry you had yours abroad. That's rubbish. I had mine just after I got back from France. That said, there is also the bleeding that comes from one of those pockets of blood and that seems to be similar in that you can get quite heavy spotting but it soon turns to brown.

It's impossible to be chilled when you see blood. But great that it seems to have stopped. I'd expect a bit of brown discharge in the next 24h or so and then that probably confirms it was a tiny blood pocket.

@inkworks273 I'm also off on hols but flying long haul so getting increasingly nervous about how tired I'm going to get. Canaries are lovely and you are almost guaranteed some sunshine :)

inkworks273 · 22/09/2018 09:15

@frankiefumbles Where are you off to and for how long?

I'm half looking forward to it/ half wishing I wasn't going!

I'm nervous about something bad happening while I'm there and also worried that morning sickness will kick in. This is my first pregnancy so I have no idea what morning sickness is like but being sick while travelling sounds horrendous!

frankiefumbles · 22/09/2018 11:38

We are flying long haul to Hawaii. I did think I might be pregnant when I booked the flights, but doesn't make it any easier. We can't cancel because the trip is a big deal for DH and I can't bear the thought of giving up another holiday only to have the mc and it to have been in vain.

I leave "home" on 1 Oct (6+7) working away and we have a conference in London 4/5 (7+3/4) when I'll hopefully sneak out and have the scan. We fly out on 6th (7+5) and fly back on 18th (9+3). 22 hours out and 20 hours back. And a ten hour time change. I'm quite intimidated by it to be fair.

frankiefumbles · 22/09/2018 11:41

@inkworks273 Ps. I know this is overly depressing, but I know what mine are like so I guess I just pack pads and let that be that. I've never had a physical problem that needs the attention of the Dr so I guess just let it do it's thing. I feel like I must be depressing all these poor mumsnetters who've come on to be excited and all I talk about is the MCs. Problem is for me it seems so intertwined with the pregnancy experience now I can't forget it.

inkworks273 · 22/09/2018 12:05

@frankiefumbles That's your experience and it's how you feel. That's what this forum is here for. So you can vent your worries and not feel alone.

I must say I am very worried about mc and it feels inevitable to me sometimes. I don't know if perhaps it's because places like these are skewed towards people who are worried or have had bad experiences in the past?

When I look at the statistics I'm far more likely to not have a mc than to have one but it doesn't stop me worrying.

frankiefumbles · 22/09/2018 12:26

@inkworks273 I don't think it helps being surrounded by people who have had MCs. Of the people in my life at the moment who are pregnant (3) none have had miscarriages. There have been no miscarriages in my family. It's unlikely to be an issue for most people. On my first it didn't even occur to me it might happen to me. All we can do is our best :) I'm sure you will be fine - things will get a little bit better after 12 weeks!

Firstbornunicorn · 22/09/2018 16:30

@inkworks273 I know what you mean about it sometimes seeming inevitable. Even being sick isn't really much comfort (is it ever?), but then not being sick is just as bad because you're wondering if something is wrong.

DH and I were invited to a wedding today. We made it a couple of miles away from home before I had to ask him to stop so I could be sick. I decided to drive the rest of the way as I get a bit travel sick anyway, and made it through the service. He's stayed on for the reception but I took the car home and have replaced my killer heels with fluffy slippers and my dress with cosy PJs! Not moving from the sofa unless absolutely necessary!

inkworks273 · 22/09/2018 16:46

@Firstbornunicorn Oh poor you! An evening snuggled up on the couch seems like the perfect plan!

I haven't experienced any sickness yet. I'm 5+2 and occasionally feel queasy if I don't eat in time but that's about it.

When did your morning sickness start? I'm going on holiday next Saturday so I don't actually want it to start! Although I think it would be more reassuring if it did!

Firstbornunicorn · 22/09/2018 16:53

@inkworks273 I'm 7+6 today and I started to feel really nauseous much of the time about a week ago. I was queasy on and off from about 4 weeks, though! I'm actually quite scared of vomiting and have loads of different techniques to stop it, but sometimes it's unavoidable.

Dimblebimble · 22/09/2018 16:56

Thanks @kiltedsheep and @inkworks273

No more spotting since those few drops, now 24 hours since it happened. Keeping my fingers tightly crossed it's going to be fine.

Pebblespony · 22/09/2018 16:57

I have nausea pretty constantly but haven't gotten sick yet. I'm 5+5. Only got sick once last time. Already have SPD though. It's killing me.

MissSmith80 · 22/09/2018 17:21

I'm 7+2 and occasional nausea if I get too hungry or certain smells trigger but that's it. I also feel really 'well'. While I'm really pleased that I can enjoy getting on with life while little bean grows (I hope), it's also making me really nervous that I shouldn't be feeling like this 😒

Firstbornunicorn · 22/09/2018 17:23

@misssmith80 I do wonder if my nausea is really as bad as I think or if I'm just a wimp! 😂

earlybirdhasanap · 22/09/2018 17:39

I'm holed up feeling really nauseous and I'm being sick at least 4 times a day at 6+4. I went to the doctor for anti sickness but they haven't got rid of the nausea they just stop me being sick and make me really sleepy.
I'm literally lying in bed today having a little meltdown. I'm not sure I can cope feeling this bad for weeks on end, my daughter is watching loads of tv and I'm barely managing to put meals on the table. Work cancelled me tomorrow and I actually cried because I've got a whole day feeling like this instead of being busy at work where I seem to feel less rubbish. Sorry for the self indulgent moan .
@Dimblebimble glad to hear that. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip.
