When you ring your go surgery do you tell them you're pregnant? If I just ask for an appointment there'll be at least a 5 week wait making me 10 weeks by the time I notify a docto. Assuming thats cutting it fine to arrange the 12 week scan?

Dimblebimble · 18/09/2018 11:38

*gp surgery

LittleTipple · 18/09/2018 11:52

@Dimblebimble I've never notified a doctor, just said that I'm pregnant and asked for a 'booking appointment' with the midwife, which is normally at 8 weeks.

SurfingOwl · 18/09/2018 12:09

I’ve always gone to a booking in appointment based on my LMP @LittleTipple and then told the midwife what I think my due date is and asked for my 12 week scan to be based on that.

Dimblebimble · 18/09/2018 12:23

Thanks @SurfingOwl and @LittleTipple, so did you just tell the receptionist that you were pregnant and let them book the midwife appointment?

DietCoke1 · 18/09/2018 12:27

You can self refer to a lot of hospitals- usually an online form or a contact number and then you get an appointment with the midwife and your scan booked through them. Then you can see you GP at any point before or after that.

frankiefumbles · 18/09/2018 13:09

@LittleTipple that's certainly awkward. I'm on my second cycle post mc. To calculate my first period/ovulation I did the following...not sure if this will help and apologies for TMI for non-mc people.

There was a distinct day for me when the mc had ended but I had run on bleeding. This was when the cramps had stopped and it was just spotting. I took this to be the first day of the new cycle (ie the LMP) rather than as you did calculating it from the start of the mc. I ovulated 12 days after this (+ve test). I usually have a 14 day luteal cycle but I suspect the difference here was in calculating exactly when the mc stopped, as is your challenge which is why it looks like you ovulated late.

I would err on the side of caution on your estimate, or alternatively spell this out for your midwife so she knows exactly what she's working with. If you actually had a positive ovulation test that will be the most reliable way forward, and you'll notice that there are websites that allow you to calculate due date from ovulation rather than LMP. You can change the date on your app in the settings to go off ovulation date rather than LMP however obviously it sucks to feel like you're going back in time.

@Turtle05 the only thing I've found is elderflower cordial made up with fizzy water. Gives me enough sugar to not feel grim but doesn't involve eating food first thing!

@earlybirdhasanap I see what you are saying. Equally though, from your mums perspective it may be that she would like to know either way so she can support you through these days? I have told my mum even though it's crazy early because she wants to be there through the good and the bad. She'd have been really upset if I'd covered up the two MCs before. That said, you know your mum best! Personally I've told quite a lot of people strictly outside work, mainly because they are the people I would want to talk to if it all went wrong!

ZoeOutdoors · 18/09/2018 13:48

Hi all, I'm 30 and 7+1 with my first. Tiredness is kicking in now, I wake up in the morning feeling like I've not been to sleep. Having nausea when I get hungry too so snacking all day at work! Surprised nobody has noticed yet as I feel so bloated I bought tights 2 sizes up and they are still uncomfortable.

inkworks273 · 18/09/2018 14:20

I haven't told anyone at work. I'm only 4+5 so it's super early. I may need to let my manager know soon depending on whether I get morning sickness or not.

So far other than DH I've only told my mum and my sister. I figured I'd want them to know even if it doesn't go well.

I'm still really worried I'm going to have a mc. I find myself making plans with DH which include a baby coming in May and then I stop myself as I don't want to jinx it.

Teladi · 18/09/2018 14:23

I don't know what's wrong with me, I called up to cancel my smear (no problem) and then I asked about booking in... For some reason I said "OK, great, well, I'm not sure of my dates right now so I'll call back". WTF? I know fine what my dates are. I think I just need to get used to saying the word pregnant and not getting in a flap. I clearly have issues!!

SassehMonsta · 18/09/2018 14:47

Teladi - it gets easier!

I haven't told work yet. Stupidly early at 3 weeks but the nausea has already been on and off. A second bfp after breakfast confirmed my thoughts from 5am. I will have to soon - we have just cut down from 5 staff to 4, and I have taken on a whole bunch of work, along with it being year end this month and auditors and all the stress of a restructuring company. I am part time and so I my counterpart, though she has just reduced her hours further and is actually on holiday this week. Aargh!

I have told 3 close friends. One of whom I told because she's around 7 weeks pregnant herself and I wanted her to know so badly. And DH. My mum will know as soon as my boobs swell again, just by looking. It's how I knew my bestie and another friend were pregnant too - Bewbs! The ladies I told are the ones I would lean on if we did mc. Plenty of time for telling other people.

Pebblespony · 18/09/2018 14:55

@Teladi It went fine. I have to do a health and safety assessment now but she seemed to be delighted for me. I won't tell the general population until after my first scan but I'd say people will know before then. I'll prob tell some people I'm friendly with. I have a colleague who is dealing with infertility so I'll probably tell her first to avoid a public 'baby bomb'.

Teladi · 18/09/2018 15:05

That's great, pebblespony. I know my manager will also be pleased for me but I'm nervous about how some of the rest of my colleagues will react. Some of them have a touch of the chauvinist and no one was expecting me to have another baby!

SassehMonsta, this is DC2 for me so you'd think I'd be better at the whole thing...

LittleTipple · 18/09/2018 17:44

@frankiefumbles thank you for the details. That makes sense actually, as I did have the heavy bleeding then some spotting/ a light bleed day. If I count this as CD1 it puts my ovulation at CD14, which would be spot on 'standard.' Think I'll do this to avoid any issues!

@Dimblebimble yes, I see my midwife at my GP practice so the receptionist books the appointment. The midwife then refers me for my 12 week scan. Not sure if this is the same in all cases or if some people see their midwifes at their nearest hospital.

UntilTheVeryEnd · 18/09/2018 17:46

Everyone meet my little bean! A perfect 8 + 1 and lovely little heartbeat 💗 so emotional today...can’t believe it’s actually real.

May-ish 2019 - thread 2!
LittleTipple · 18/09/2018 17:47

@frankiefumbles Meant to say I did get a positive OPK, so can be fairly certain of actual O day.

frankiefumbles · 18/09/2018 17:59

@LittleTipple sounds promising :) there will always be a bit of flexibility but hopefully that will get you fairly close to the "real" date

@UntilTheVeryEnd yippee! That's super exciting!!!! I'm slightly envious but very excited for you!!! I love a good bean pic! (and now for the gossip, did they get that from an external scan or did they have to go internal?)

zoClueless · 18/09/2018 18:03

@UntilTheVeryEnd lovely scan. How exciting!!!

Interesting that a few of you have told work. I think I've been put in the position where I'm going to have to tell my line manager tomorrow. Been offered an opportunity I'm going to have to decline and feel like I need to explain myself. Will ask for the official reason to be noted as 'personal reasons' but would want to unofficially explain properly to manager. Will be stressing that I'm telling her in confidence though as my mum doesn't even know yet! Also I'm still really nervous about a MC - if only this was coming up a week later as I have my early scan next week and would have at least felt a bit more comfortable sharing...

inkworks273 · 18/09/2018 18:12

How exciting @UntilTheVeryEnd!! So glad the scan went well Smile

MynameisJune · 18/09/2018 18:16

@untiltheveryend fabulous pic! So glad everything is well.

UntilTheVeryEnd · 18/09/2018 18:19

Thanks everyone! We are just delighted.

@frankiefumbles pleased to say that it was an external scan and picked up straight away. Needed to have a crazy full bladder tho - a touch uncomfy.

kiltedsheep · 18/09/2018 18:21

@UntilTheVeryEnd Congratulations!!!! So exciting! And wonderful to hear the heartbeat 💗

I told my line manager and his line manager at work today, as I'm not exactly on my A-game. I think it's pretty bloody obvious given I look shattered and ill, and they've both been great about it.

I also had to leave suddenly in the middle of a meeting that was held near our canteen. The smell just made me feel 🤢. That may have given the game away to other colleagues! I was hoping not to make it public until after the 12 week scan...

SurfingOwl · 18/09/2018 18:38

Lovely news and a beautiful picture @UntilTheVeryEnd.

I had a scan today which went well. Baby is measuring ahead of my dates so I will wait to see what the dating scan has to say.

BoomKapow · 18/09/2018 18:45

Just had my scan. All looking good and I’m now further than I was when I miscaried. Dates match mine exactly so 8 weeks today. It was internal cause I have a retroverted uterus (which I knew about already).
