@MissSmith80 that's my thinking too. I was so tempted to have an early scan but dh wanted to wait. I've come around to the idea now as I know myself and now the day after the early scan I will be worrying again anyway! Mind you that will be the same after the 12 week also.

ZoeOutdoors · 03/10/2018 12:58

I'm waiting for my 12 week scan, trying to take each day as it comes and assume things are ok but it is hard at times.

zoClueless · 03/10/2018 13:16

@sprinkleofsunshine it is my first and we did have an early scan at 8+6 (measured at 8+4). It was brilliant but hard to know if it's now made waiting for the 12 week scan harder tbh. It was only just over a week ago but feels like forever ago so the next 2 weeks and 5 days seem a lifetime! I think I'm also worried more now as I've seen a hb (we didn't get to hear anything) and so now it feels more like there's something tangible to lose if things were to go wrong.

zoClueless · 03/10/2018 13:16

It's all a bit damned if do and damned if don't really. A big worry either way 😞

frankiefumbles · 03/10/2018 13:28

@zoClueless technically now you've seen that heartbeat there is a much higher chance of the pregnancy continuing Thanks

I've finally caved and booked a scan for Friday late morning, mainly to eliminate the possibility of having an mc on the 20+ hour flight on Sat. I'm not sure I could handle that but if it's coming I want to know...! Mrs Glass Half Empty here again ;)

sprinkleofsunshine · 03/10/2018 13:36

@zoClueless your point about loosing something after seeing the hb is exactly what has made me worried but you're exactly right it is a bit of damned either way and your own preferences. I still now and then think of booking one as 12 weeks seems so long, maybe when I have an actual date for it it may come a bit faster.

MimiSunshine · 03/10/2018 15:13

@sprinkleofsunshine no early scan here for me (10+3 with number 2 here).

As others have said you’re more likely to not MC than you are to have one so just try to focus on the positive.

Without wanting too be full of misery or scare anyone, there is no ‘safe zone’ in pregnancy, I know and know of people who have had bad news / losses at every single stage through to the end.
BUT the odds get better and better every day you are pregnant so it’s better to keep your water intake high and your stress levels low.

Keep breathing lovely big lung fills of oxygen to help the baby be as oxygenated as possible and without being too ‘woo’ I’m a firm believer in projecting a positive mental vibe into the future so keep telling myself that things will be ok 🤞🏼

sprinkleofsunshine · 03/10/2018 15:17

Thanks @MimiSunshine I also think goes positive stAte of mind goes a long way. I've actually been pretty good but just have the anxious feeling every now and then as I'm sure most do. Overall I have a general feeling things will be fine so fx they will!

Out of interest did you have an early scan on your first or wait also?

MimiSunshine · 03/10/2018 15:46

I didn’t on my first either. But then that time I just tested once and then waited, this time Ive done 4 tests 😄

There is no right or wrong way to mentally get through pregnancy, it’s just what works for you. And if an early scan was free on the NHS then I’d do it (😄)

It’s quite early yet and I won’t be picking my book up again until Christmas at the earliest but if the cost isn’t prohibitive, then I’d really recommend the Mindful Mamma course a bit later on www.mindfulmamma.co.uk/

Or to be honest just reading the book (can be bought on Amazon). I’ve recommended the book to every pregnant women I know since I gave birth and they’ve all loved it.

I had a drug free water birth with my first (no g&a even) and it was the single most amazing / empowering experience of my life. If I could have got up out of the pool and run around the hospital telling everyone what an absolute superhero I felt then I would have done (was a bit restricted by waiting for the placenta 😂).

However you give birth is just bloody brilliant and my friends who’ve loved the book have had a variety of birth types but all said it helped them mentally and emotionally cope with the experience/ pain.

sprinkleofsunshine · 03/10/2018 16:04

Thanks @MimiSunshine I will definitely take a look at that in a little while. Water birth would be my ideal also though I'm not clued up on the options as of yet.

Dimblebimble · 03/10/2018 16:11

I think I'm going to have an early scan at 8 and a half weeks. I actually saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks but dh wasn't there so I'd quite like him to see it too and don't want to wait that long.

Also I feel like I don't want to get too attached just in case, but then I'm worried it will impact bonding with the baby/ lead me to not enjoy pregnancy. I'd like a little reassurance that the baby is still there and doing well. I still don't have any morning sickness at 7 weeks today which I'm a little worried about.

Do you talk about the baby with the father? I find I don't want to talk about it too much as I feel it'll lead me to get attached. I have an app and I do like looking at it but it doesn't look very baby like at the moment, more like a prawn 🦐

SurfingOwl · 03/10/2018 16:19

I had an early scan but it only really brought me reassurance for the duration I was there. It feels an age until my 12 week scan as well.

UntilTheVeryEnd · 03/10/2018 16:31

Early pregnancy is so fraught with worry - when there is so little we can actually do to affect the outcome. I had an early scan due to my dating issues re contraception... it was amazing to see but I wish I could just have one every week to check how things are going. If it brings you peace then do it! It was magical!

I’m a great believer in trying to be positive so that you enjoy the pregnancy and not spend it all worrying. My DH is the opposite, such a realist and won’t get too excited incase things don’t go well.
I have confidence that my body knows what to do just as you all need to believe your bodies know what to do.
If all else fails there is always chocolate 🍫

SurfingOwl · 03/10/2018 16:39

I think my entire pregnancy will be fraught with with worry but I like the idea of self medicating with chocolate!

sprinkleofsunshine · 03/10/2018 17:06

I fancy some chocolate now.

@Dimblebimble I know what you mean. I do talk to dh but more about my sickness etc as opposed to the actual baby being here. A couple of times in the last week I have said when baby is here etc but I try not to make a habit of it because like you it would be all the harder should anything happen. I agree with the previous poster though that our bodies know what to do and to trust that, I just get a little niggle of worry every now and then.

Also, I won't let myself read those pregnancy updates early. I'm 7 weeks tomorrow and I will read some apps etc in the evening on what will happen over the next week. I won't read them any earlier and it's like a milestone to tick off when I get there. Ive done it since I found out at 3 weeks lol.

rosettesforjill · 03/10/2018 17:18

We'll be waiting for 12 week scan. I feel like it's easy to drive yourself mad worrying about things being wrong but while I have no evidence to the contrary, I'm going to assume all is ok for now Smile

SJR86 · 03/10/2018 17:26

We're waiting for the 12week scan too, although I'm finding the wait hard!
I had my booking in appointment on Monday and the midwife said chocolate was a no go because of the caffeine content...has anyone else been advised this?

Shazafied · 03/10/2018 17:27

@SJR86 no!!! I think as long as you stay under ?200mg your ok xx

SurfingOwl · 03/10/2018 17:46

and the midwife said chocolate was a no go because of the caffeine content...has anyone else been advised this?

😱 No! What would I eat if I followed that guideline?

MimiSunshine · 03/10/2018 17:55

I take the guidelines with a pinch of salt really (and they are guidelines not laws).

So Im not a big fizzy drink drinker anyway. Unless it’s got a spirit mixed in 😉 and don’t really drink coffee but do have say 2/4 cups of tea a day.
In work I’ll have regular tea bags but at home we have decaf, if I do have a coke / lemonade then I don’t have a caffeinated tea.

As for chocolate, I have no idea how much caffeine is in it but I honestly doubt that unless you get through family sized bars daily then you’ll hit any worrying levels.

zoClueless · 03/10/2018 18:14

I think I remember reading somewhere that the average bar of say regular sized diary milk has 10mg of caffeine so you'd have to have a lot to reach your 200mg!
I don't drink tea or coffee anyway but I've been eating chocolate as I normally would and have a can of Diet Coke probably every other day.

rosettesforjill · 03/10/2018 18:16

NHS guidelines - https://www.nhs.uk/common-health-questions/pregnancy/should-i-limit-caffeine-during-pregnancy/

You'd have to eat a kilogram of milk chocolate before you reached the limit Grin

Shazafied · 03/10/2018 18:20

Ooh I love my daily Diet Coke with ice !

Amolly · 03/10/2018 18:32

Oh I'm jelouse of you all talking about coffee and chocolate. They are my 2 fav things but I've gone off them completely. Not managing to eat a whole lot at the morning as I either feel sick or am. But I'm taking it all as a positive sign the the baby is growing well.

I'd love to do an early scan but I think I'll have to twist the fellas arm aha. Glad your all doing well x

SJR86 · 03/10/2018 18:41

That's good to hear...I had no intention of cutting chocolate out! I've never managed to give it up for lent never mind the next 7 months!!
