Flu jab available from sept in most places (I’ll get it at work - hospital). We’re all almost 20 weeks anyway and season not infl full swing yet so wouldn’t worry.

Re movements - check count the kicks website. Bit early for pattern but nice to feel them moving!

UndercoverLauren · 06/09/2018 17:34

I can't wait to feel movement! When I'm in bed I try to feel it, then realise how many random twinges my abdomen makes XD

Lulabell1 · 06/09/2018 18:34

@sickmumma aww lovely!! I had my DD at kingston hospital because i lived in putney at the time amazing midwife team.
Im in ashtead now so epsom hospital is close as i would of gone back to kingston although epsom have just had a brand new delivery suite built! X

Lulabell1 · 06/09/2018 18:54

Iv never had a flu jab and never will neither has my DD (shes never ill) Personal reasons and thoughts on it but will have whooping cough.

Iv only felt movements average once a day....but once it gets more frequent thats when you need to make sure theres movement every day x

Lookingforadvice123 · 06/09/2018 19:07

I have the flu jab every year anyway (as I'm asthmatic).

I've only felt the odd flick of movement (16+1). Probably at least once a day, but you don't worry about a pattern until 24 weeks I think. DS never had a "pattern" other than being really wriggly so I used to freak if he didn't move for 15 mins.

Baby160P · 06/09/2018 19:13

My midwife said

20 weeks scan
20-24 weeks whooping cough
24-28 weeks gestational diabetes

Flu jab when it's released.

Baby160P · 06/09/2018 19:15

Also if you have a high bmi aspirin (75mg) so low amount reduces chance of diabetes

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 06/09/2018 20:26

Thank m also not sure on the flu jab. Thank m asthmatic as well, but never had it.

I know of several people who have had pretty severe side effects from the jab, and also... the strain mutates every year, I’m just not sure that this jab can protect against any current strain.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Will have the whooping cough one, but the jury’s still out on the flu... 🤔

Since2016 · 06/09/2018 20:43

Jab changes every year - to reflect changes in the strain. Last year there was a slight variation between what you got in primary care vs. Secondary (hospital) but this isn’t the norm. The benefits of jab while pregnant are that you pass on your immunity to your baby which lasts post birth when baby is at their most vulnerable. No brainer as far as I’m concerned.

I’ve had it for years and never had a reaction. Obviously I’m a staunch advocate, as much for the protection of other vulnerable people (new babies, immunocompromised, elderly etc) as it is for myself.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 06/09/2018 20:46

For myself... I’d never have it. But, it’s the immunity it claims to give the baby that has me rethinking it, it’s not just me any more.

It wasn’t offered with my previous pregnancies, and I want to look at how long it’s been offered and anecdotes from those experiences before I make my choice.

Lookingforadvice123 · 06/09/2018 20:51

Have to admit I've never understood vaccine reluctance. Obviously for things like flu jab it's a personal choice...but imagine if you caught flu then passed it on to a vulnerable person? You'd feel so guilty. I can't quite believe there's still people who won't vaccinate their children...

Baby160P · 06/09/2018 20:56

Completely agree. My midwife explained how babies don't have their first immunity jabs until 8 weeks which is why they encourage pregnant women to have them to protect their tiny baby.

Eyedontknow · 06/09/2018 21:08

Had the anomaly scan. No severe issues detected (heart, brain, spine all okay), but have to go to FMU for another look at the little one's mouth. It's crazy how much it's grown since the last scan! Also quite weird to feel the movement and see it on the screen. Now I know it's not gas and actually is the baby rolling around/kicking.

As far as jabs, I'm planning on getting both. I'm assuming midwife will speak to me about it at the next appointment.

AliceRR · 06/09/2018 21:37

Im feeling so clumsy at the moment! Just fell on my butt. I literally misjudged how close I was to the radiator when trying to sit down on the floor and hit the radiator! Didn’t hit bump or tummy area so that’s good but really need to be more careful 🙄

Yakadee · 06/09/2018 21:49

@AliceRR - I hear ya! I haven't fallen but I've smashed a few glasses and dropped 2 eggs on the floor 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

welshweasel · 06/09/2018 22:00

The flu jab isn’t just important for protecting your baby - when you are pregnant you fall into one of the highest risk groups for suffering severe complications from flu, including death. During the last epidemic our ITU was full of young people, including a couple of pregnant ladies. I have it every year as side effects are minimal but it’s particularly important now.

UndercoverLauren · 06/09/2018 22:01

@Lookingforadvice123 there's a huge misinformation campaign, so I can understand why people are reluctant. But it is very frustrating, and now I'm pregnant the whole anti-vax thing is starting to frighten me.

Lookingforadvice123 · 06/09/2018 22:18

UndercoverLauren I cant believe people actually take the campaign seriously though, it's ludicrous. The anti-MMR was originally based on one Doctor's claims who was eventually banned from practicing medicine! I understand why people were scared back then, before his claims were found to be ludicrous, but still?

Since2016 · 06/09/2018 22:37

Yes @welshweasel should have said this too. It’s why pregnant women get more colds etc! I also can’t understand the anti vaxxers. Insane. I’m not sure I could socialise with someone who refused to vaccinate their child - I certainly wouldn’t put mine at risk around them.

Fredthespider · 07/09/2018 06:34

So glad there aren’t any severe issues at your scan @Eyedontknow! Do you have to wait long for the scan to look at their mouth? Hope it’s nothing too bad. I assume you didn’t find out if you’re having a boy or girl?

AliceRR · 07/09/2018 08:18

Sorry if someone’s asked this but I wonder if you are planning to do NCT courses and whether you’re already signed up? I was going to sign up then put it on hold as house is up for sale and if we move we’ll be in a different area but seems unlikely we’ll move so soon (house is on market and we are looking but that’s it - it’s only been uk for sale 2 week’s!) but I heard classes fill up so maybe I should just book on 🤔

Notquiteagandt · 07/09/2018 08:28

@AliceRR I was looking at my local NCT the other week. Went to book it this week and its full...!!! Had to book one in the nearest town rather than our village. Which would of been nice to have people who where living closer. Ahh well. I have emailed them to ask about a waiting list.

Id book asap if I was you.

Since2016 · 07/09/2018 08:28

I’m not this time as #2 and have quite a few friends due around the same time but I did the first time and thought it was good. I booked I think around the sept (was due in jan) as local ones to me booked up fast. Depends if you want one that’s several shorter sessions or longer ones too as longer ones book faster I think as it’s easier to fit in!

twiglet · 07/09/2018 08:31

We have booked NCT classes I know it's not for everyone but our only other choice is a few hours NHS one in my area.
The NCT classes aren't in my town about a 30 min drive but from speaking to a friend who has done them they have a reasonable wide catchment.

Surprisedmom · 07/09/2018 08:50

I have booked for NCT classes as i’d like to get to know people in the area. I think if you’re not planning to move too far away you might still stay in touch with people you meet at NCT, but also I hope the content is worthwhile not just the socialisation element.
