Thought I'd get the new thread started as no one objected to my title suggestion

Hi all, sorry to hear you're feeling isolated nellielula
When I had ds1 we were living in lambourn (in the middle of nowhere!) which is horse training county. We dont ride horses or train them so meeting similar people was really difficult. We then moved to humgerford which was better but not many young people and certainly no ch's playgrounds to catch people for a gossip. We have since moved (primarily to find a community) to swindon (hey, someones got to live here!!) and have made some many great friends in our street. I know it isn't that easy for everyone to upsticks and move but with dh working in london and being out of the house 13-14 hrs per day I really felt i had to be the one happy at home and not to feel isolated.

Am v jealous about the jam tarts!

designerbaby · 28/06/2007 15:47

Er...

You know what they say about not undergoing drastic hairstyle changes when under the influence of pregnancy hormones?

Um...

I just ignored it.
Have hardly any hair left.

Might have to go into the bathroom for a bit of a cry...

Mumpbump · 28/06/2007 15:50

What have you done? Shaved it all off? Hope not - this is the time in your life when it's meant to look super glossy, thick and shiny all by itself...

designerbaby · 28/06/2007 15:59

Ok - well it's not quite that drastic...

I've always had a long-ish bob - now it's a really quite short one. With a fringe.

Hair hasn't been looking any more glossy or nice than usual - in fact a bit wilder and frizzy and generally scruffy - which is what prompted the trip to Vidal Sassoon in the first place.

Maybe this new cut will tame it a bit?

DH is going to do his nut - is old fashioned and believes that women should have long hair, and men short.

Which ALWAYS makes me want to have a grade 2...

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 16:04

Do you know that is exactly why i refuse to have scissors in the bathroom!!
I don;t consider myself a weak person and can ignore urges ie, throw myself off tall buildings, under a train etc but if i get a feeling that i'd like to cut my hair in the past in invariably have.

Am quite lucky though, my hair is curly and long so any 'hacking' i do dh never seems to notice....

Mumpbump · 28/06/2007 16:12

DB - I'm sure it doesn't look that bad, just different to what you're used to! It will probably grow out really quickly anyway with all the pg hormones coursing around.

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 16:20

db -how about a headband?

People have been really nice about it at work - but I'm not sure that's a good sign - I work in a design studio and there's all kinds of whacky hair-do's on display here... along the asymmetrical line... iykwim.

Hair's always been a bit of a security blanket I guess - got NOWHERE to hide now!?

Put those scissors down muppet...

nellieloula · 28/06/2007 16:47

DB, I did exactly the same thing last week - regret is a terrible feeling, esp when you've paid so much for the privilege! But look on the bright side - it will be great when the sun does come back out - so much less firzzy hair to contend with -, will grow back brilliantly in time for our due date (I'm the 27th too!)and will be so much easier to manage. And who knows, you may grow to LOVE it!! I'm sure you look beautiful.

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 16:57

DB do you think ther's a support group i could go to?

TWSU maybe (those with scissor urges?)

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 17:02

SUA
Scissor urges anonymous

....my name is muppet and i have scissor urges.

FCA - Fringe Choppers Anonymous?
HHA - Hair Hackers Anonymous?
USAA - Uncontrollable Scissor Abusers Anonymous?

MrsFish · 28/06/2007 17:15

I'm sure it is lovely designerbaby, and if anyone says anything just blame the pregnancy hormones, and at the end of the day it WILL grow back

greedygreedyguzzler · 28/06/2007 17:33

can you let me know where this support group is please..............i need to join too!............. i am always hacking at my ever decreasing fringe! and worse still...........my dd's too!

oh oh! and does anyone know of a spotpickers anonynous group (SAG), cos my poor dd has unfortunately got spotty arms and i just CAN NOT resist picking them!

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 17:42

That's a bit like the pna

Pick nose association
(your children's obvioulsy!)

...well actually may not be obvious

j20baby · 28/06/2007 18:12

greedy! you ok?

well i've had enough of painting today, maybe overdid it again!

early night tonight, i'm shattered!

DB i tend to do the same thing with my hair, grow it long, get an urge to cut it short, then cry i'm sure it looks gorgeous, perfect for the hot summer

nellie sorry your feeling down, it soes get lonely doesn't it, although tbh i'm one of them people that likes being on my own, real people tend to annoy me

i can't bloody believe it, i've just paid for a newborn bundle of girls clothes to be delivered next week, even though i've already got a bedroom full-and one of my neighbours has just knocked on the door with a big bag of baby girl clothes, where am i going to put them all!?!

btw i've had butterscotch angel delight with hobnob biscuits crumbled into it, the only thing is i had to share with dd, the greedy moo

hope everyone is ok today

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 18:21

oo oo angel delight.....

Have said I would go out with girlies tonight and even said i'd drive. Now really wanting to stay at home as dh is coming home early so I can go out. As dh is coming home early I'd quite like to see him but he says no, I'm going our becasue that's the reason he's coming home early....

(If that makes any sense at all.)

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 18:22

Do men not understand at all that whatever a pregenat woman says is not in the least bit leagally binding...?

j20baby · 28/06/2007 18:26

muppetgirl-maybe come home early and get the best of both worlds?

muppetgirl · 28/06/2007 18:39

I think that's what I'll sneakily do...
Have just put ds to bed and are now out of breath from the walk up/down the stairs!!
Anyone else like this?

alicet · 28/06/2007 19:07

DB sure your hair looks gorgeous! It sounds fab - I always think its difficult getting used to a change particularly if you're full of pregnancy hormones!

Nellie - sorry to hear you're feeling so isolated. One thing that made a massive difference to me when ds1 was a tiny baby was having done NCT antenatal classes. The info they give is variable but the main thing is the social aspect. Out of 8 couples in our class we are still really good friends with 7 of them. And because you are there for a reason its not as scary as going to a mother and baby group. Might be a bit late to register for it now as I know they are always very oversubscribed but why not get in touch and give it a go? Think putting national childbirth trust into google should get you their website. And if their classes are full they arrange coffee mornings and stuff. ALso ask your health visotor for a list of local mother and baby groups - our list was massive but good to have lots of choice. I know what you mean that you don't really fancy doing trhis type of stuff at the mo but I think its well worth it in the end although a bit painful to start...

MrsFish am I too late for the jam tarts?

greedy good to see you again - are you OK?

Hello everyone else - can't remember what you all said but I enjoyed catching up with you!!!

ejt1764 · 28/06/2007 19:26

nellie - I did nct classes with ds too, and like alice, am still in regular touch with all of the others. www.nct.org.uk/

db - I am sure that your hair looks lovely - I was a tad unsure about mine when I had it cut - I think I may have inadvertantly started the haircut trend a couple of weeks ago [embarassed!], and, although I love my hair now, it was a bit of shoch to the system at first!

muppet - put down the scissors ...

can't remember what anybody else said ... haven't got my usual word document open in another window to put my messages in (now you know my guilty secret!)

We've just been to pizza express for tea - there was a voucher in the sunday times a couple of weeks ago, so we just had a bogof on pizzas ... then went and blew the savings we'd made by having pud ... mind you, the cheesecake was delicious!
The waitress didn't realise she was looking after our table at first, so we sent ds to do the cute 4 year old, and ask if he could have some dinner [coward emoticon!] ... to make it up to us (for forgetting us for all of about 5 minutes), they whisked ds away to make our pizzas ... he's come home with a chef's hat!

Now going to watch bblb ... my name is ejt and I watch crap on tv ... I've been watching Canada's next top model avidly (how sad is that!), and I can't wait for the next series of Britain's next top model to start on Monday! hee hee

Have a lovely evening all!

MrsFish · 28/06/2007 19:34

J20 - that butterscotch AD with hobnob biscuits sounds divine, I made ds a strawberry one for his tea, but he didn't want it, so I had the whole packet

alicet - yup, there are still some left

muppetgirl - I am getting out of breath easy too. My main annoying thing at the moment is that I feel like I need the loo ALL the time, but when I go its barely a dribble (tmi) Have a good night

ejt - I love pizza Xpress, must get a visit there soon
