Morning all!

Pheebe - I had something similar last time where I felt travel sick, threw up in a garage toilet - nice! - and when I stood up, felt dizzy and had spots in front of my eyes. It went away and never came back. I am feeling quite ill with exhaustion from time to time and just dump ds on dh and go to bed if it is at the weekend. First time around, the pg really didn't touch me, but I'm finding it much harder this time. I think you just need to take it easy when you start feeling like that and get some rest.

Inzi - I hope it isn't a slipped disc and that you feel better soon. Being in that amount of pain on an ongoing basis is not good - have they given you painkillers for it?

Nellie - what is the cardiac scan for? Sorry if I've missed something...

I'm not too bad today, although my digestive system has slowed down massively - despite my daily breakfast of all-bran, muesli and raisins - which is rather unpleasant. Think I'm going to have to start eating beans as well - fortunately my roomshare is away next week so I might have a go at "purging" my system then!!

Ds is under the weather and I think being pg is kick-starting all my maternal instincts again!! He fell over on concrete yesterday, didn't manage to get his hands out and bumped/grazed his head... He had a HUGE bump still when I picked him up from nursery yesterday and was ultra clingy today. He was carried off by the carer, looking over her shoulder with his arm outstretched in a Titanic-esque way (you know, where Leo sinks into the murky depths!). I felt absolutely awful leaving him and am now really feeling that having him at home with me for for three days a week whilst I'm on maternity leave will be the best for him. Isn't it awful when they are so small and keep hurting themselves?

Well, have been to see the doc - and she's signed me off for 4 weeks.

School have talked about doing a h&s review - but nothing has actually happened. TBH, I think I'm better off now - hopefully.

Just sorting out some work for my classes - will be back later to chat!

Blimey it took me a while to read the other thread and then found a new one had started and that took me ages too

The electric was off most of yesterday so I couldn't get on.

mini rant - I have started waddling big time and I can't walk 5 mins without getting really bad stitch under my bump which makes me double over and I have to stop to let it subside, I feel like a whale at the moment and the weight is piling on at least stone and 8lb already. I have had to take my wedding rings off and luckily it is summer as I can only wear my flip flops which brings its own problems of dirty feet and cracked heels. Sorry I know that is nothing compared to what some of you are going through so I will shut up now. I hope those with bad backs feel better soon [hugs]

Went out last night and had a lovely meal as it was our 3rd wedding anniversary. Also had ds's new big boys bed delivered so need to sort a mattress out for that now and get him moved into his new room. It is his second birthday on saturday. He was due on our first wedding anniversary but arrived 4 days late, for which I am glad so we can celebrate separatley.

Feeling so knackered today, got to bed at midnight then proceeded to wake at 1.20, 3.10, 4.30, 6.10 and 7am, had heartburn till 4.30 (ate too much too late) falling asleep sat up with DH in the spare room, dreamt I gave birth to this one at six months he just popped out but looked like he was six months old and the spitting image of ds1...
yaawwwnnn!! Off to SiL's in an hour so ds can keep himself occupied with my two nieces
Sorry to waffle on, will catch up later

Hope you all have a good day.

honeyapple · 06/06/2007 11:12

Someone noticed that I was PG yesterday and felt confident enough to actually ask me to my face...

Sorry to hear of all the sh*t some of you have been going through, what with pain and work.

TENS machine- I hired one from boots with my first child- but thought it was pants. Didnt bother with second baby. I reckon the early labour pain is quite easy to cope with without a TENS. But, each to their own... and probably worth having a go with if you havent tried one before.

Having a lovely lazy day today. DP working away from home. DC at school/playgroup. Dunno what to do with myself.

FloriaTosca · 06/06/2007 12:05

Inzi
Im so sorry things arent better today..(hugs)..I must admit I wondered yesterday why they hadnt got you straight down to physio but didnt want to say anything ...I'm glad your mw is going to sort something out now ..getting downstairs is a problem ...for me, on all fours backwards was just about do-able but you sound so much worse I cant see how you are going to do it either apart from on a stretcher . I understand your not wanting to take painkillers, I've not taken anything myself, but I think that taking a few paracetamol (please correct me if I'm wrong)wont harm lo and though it wont really touch the real pain it might just take the edge off for you..at least until they can get a physio to you.

OP posts:
alicet · 06/06/2007 12:17

Inzi a few paracetamol won't harm your baby and might take the edge off your pain although sounds like its too bad for them to completely ease it. There might be options that you could take that don't harm your baby. I know morphine is OK for example - they use it (or very similar drugs) in labour anyway. Not so sure on milder painkillers....

Mrsfish ds2 might well arrive on our wedding anniversary if he's a week late! My bil was born on mil and fil's wedding anniversary too. I'm also hoping he avoids that day as it will be nice to be able to celebrate on the day we actually married rather than another time.

I found tens really helped in labour - agree early labour pain doesn't necessarily warrant it but the trick is to start using it really early at the first twinges as it takes a while to take effect. Plus if you wait till the pains are severe it doesn't work very well.

Thinking of you all and sending big big hugs to those with all the eches and pains. I felt really sick yesterday am at work for about an hour and had to go lie down. But a minor thing in comparison to everyone else! This pregnancy thing isn't easy is it!!!!!

Pheebe · 06/06/2007 12:31

Hi Everyone

Inzi, don't you dare feel guilty, your pain sounds hideous and mine's all gone now. I don't know where you live but if you're anywhere near stoke I'll come an turn the tele on for you and bring you a bag of peas...

ejt, glad to hear they've signed you off , take it easy and try to enjoy it!

mump, hope your ds is feeling better. My SIL is trying to decide whether to take her girls out of nursery or send em less when her new baby comes. They've decided it will probably be best to keep as close to their normal routine as possible and they'll probably be glad for some 'quiet' time away from the new baby til they get a routine of their own sorted out. TBH it hadn't crossed my mind to keep my DS out of nursery, I only plan to be off for a couple of months and he has such a fab time up there. makes me sad sometimes as some days it seems like he'd rather be there than with me

MrsFish, know wot you mean about the heartburn, it sucks! Never had it with DS and everyone thinks its another sign that this one is a girl only a week to wait now, if it cooperates of course!

Nipped up to get my bp checked and its all normal, mw said the same as you guys, just ride with it for now and if I'm tired, go to bed. Not so easy with a 2 yo but DH is trying to get home about 2 every day to help me out bless him

FloriaTosca · 06/06/2007 13:07

Pheebe. Glad everything is ok and I didnt give you any misleading info., my dizziness etc only really lasted a long weekend and then I think I must have adapted. The tiredness is still there, but I'm an old bag, I suppose its natural. And I must admit I'm getting very breathless recently, especially finding the hills round here steeper than usual (why oh why did I teach this dog to walk to heel...if he pulled it would be a help at the moment!)

Well all, new washing machine is here at last and I've unwrapped it, but am going to wait for DH to wrestle it into place. Time for lunch now I think before 1st pupils of the day start arriving...oh how I wish I could be a lady of leisure.

j20baby · 06/06/2007 13:10

hi all

aw inzi, poor you!! have you got noone to come and look after you?

well, ive been for my apointment and she said my iron is still low but steady so not to worry to much, just carry on taking the tablets, but then they found +2 protein and some lucasite's in my urine, so had to give another sample to send off to check for infections.

feeling quite tired and a bit cr*p today, probably because i've been rushing around, got to take the cat to the vet in a minute to have her stitches out, when all i want to do is lay down!

sending hugs to everyone else

alicet · 06/06/2007 13:21

J20 glad to hear your iron levels are steady and you don't need any painful injections!! Did you mention a while back that you had a sore tongue or was that someone else? You can get that with iron deficiency anaemia so that might well be the reason if it was you! Lots of other things can cause it too....

I'm going to keep my ds in nursery when I go off work. Currently he is there 3 days a week. Might have to cut down to 2 for financial reasons but will see - I think its important for him to have as much consistency as possible at a time when his little world will be turned upside down!!! He also loves it. It will be great to have the chance to catch up on sleep on the days he is there too - I know last time I surveved the sleepless nights by sleeping with ds off and on till lunchtime - tricky with a toddler about!!!!

Ejt def don't feel bad about the time off. Nor should any of the rest of you if you need it. Its really important to look after yourself at the moment and not worry about others - they wil manage fine without you and being signed off makes it easier for them to plan rather than having you in sometimes and off sometimes....

Inzi do you have any family or friends who could help you out at the mo? You sound like you could do with it. The best thing for you is probably going to be reast at the mo if you're in so much pain.

Hope nellie's scan is going well!

alicet · 06/06/2007 13:26

mump hope your ds is feeling better too. Its so hard when they're ill and hurt themselves and just don't understand. ds falls and hits his head / shuts his fingers in the door etc etc at least once a day at the moment. Thankfully so far hasn't hurt himself too badly - nothing a mummy cuddle doesn't cure - but its still hard. He is 16 months now and at that age where he wants to clamber on everything and be in everything. This am he pulled a jar of passata out of our kitchen cupboards onto his foot!

I think its a real difficult balancing game this one. I have made safe / removed anything that could really hurt him but I also want him to learn what is ok as when ds2 arrives I won't be able to watch him all the time despite the best of intentions. Plus I want to be able to take him to other people's houses and know what is safe as not all of them will be childproofed!

You can use the tens machine for back problems before 36 weeks - My mate with the bad back used one last time and found it great. Not sure if you need to adjust the settings or anything though so perhaps it might be worth waiting and asking your physio for advice tomorrow. Sure you will be able to get one that does both! Large boots dept stores stock them so could get your dp to check it out if he can?

Why don't you ask your mum to come and stay for a few days? If you do have a prolapsed disc you will need it honey. She would probably be delighted to help you

Pheebe · 06/06/2007 14:13

I agree with alicet, if your mums anything like mine, she'll be furious you didn't ask . My being pregnant seems to bring out the mothering instinct in her too and soemtimes its good to be the child for a bit, specially when you need trays of food in bed, lots of drinks and sympathy

Hi everyone; Inzi you sound like you're having a nightmare - sure seeing the physio tmrw will really help. hope everyone else is ok. We had a really good scan in London this morning; no heart defects that they can see at this stage which cancels out all the main ones and all looking great - so that was massively reassuring. And just an amazing experience seeing it on such a powerful ultrasound machine. So looking forward to the anomoly scan next week now. Is anyone else having a bad time with hayfever by any chance? I don't really want to take any of the over the counter things - anyone know of any more natural products that work? Hope everyone is managing to get some rest - sounds like we all need it at the moment!

Great news about the scan nellie!

Inzi if you say your mum would be happy to and keeps asking please ask her. your recovery will be so much more complicated if you try and do too much when you're struggling. I know all about wanting to be independent (I am bad at that too!) but like pheebe says sometimes you just have to allow yourself to be looked after

nellieloula · 06/06/2007 16:57

I totally agree with alice inzi - you've got to look after yourself now so that you can do everything that is ahead of you. Otherwise, if you're anything like me, you'll only end up making it worse. take care and think about asking your mum.

Hi Nellie glad your scan went well today I am sure that is a weight off your mind. Sorry don't have any natural remedies for hay fever apart from putting cold tea bags on your eyes if they are sore!

Sorry to hear that so many others are in pain and I hope that the Physio can do something for you Inzi.

My next scan was supposed to be today week but my DH is going to be out of the country so he changed it to the following week, I really want him to be there so I don't really mind it being put back, its just having to wait another week I think I live from scan to scan and another week seems like a life time to wait!
