Morning all,

Must not spend all day on MN! Have sewing to do! I have a quilt to finish for exhibition at the Festival of Quilts in August - and it needs to be done by 1st July. Problem is that sitting on my sewing chair is too painful to manage to sit for any more than 15 minutes at a time - the chair at the computer is not much better, but at least here, it doesn't matter if I kneel down!

I've also started crocheting a blanket for madam bean - I've been agonising over patterns and yarns for week,s but eventually decided yesterday to just do an enormous granny square - it's not like it's going to be an heirloom or anything - I just want it to be used.

I have an heirloom blanket - am a bit actually - I made it for my neighbour's little girl who is now 2 - and they have passed over all their baby clothes in the past couple of days - what did I find in one of the black bags, but the blanket. Makes me quite cross! Never mind, I'll just not make anything for them again!

My hydrotherapy appointment came through - my class is next Wednesday at 10.30 - I'll get to meet other pg ladies who have spd / pgp / coccydinia - it'll be good to swap stories!

Apricott - lovely to hear from you, and thank you for the suggestion of acupuncture - I'm already having acupuncture, and have been having it regularly since last November - first to regulate my cycle, then to support the pg during the 1st trimester, and for the dreaded ms, and now I'm having it for ms (yes, I'm still being sick!) and pain. Thanks for the suggestion though - I find it really helps! I've just had a bad few days with pain this week, and wasn't dealing with it very well. Every day is another day closer to the end!

Hope your GTT goes well - bleugh - I can't keep anything sugary down (still), so would be an absolute nightmare if they decided they wanted to put me through that!

jersey - lovely to hear from you - glad all is going well - you take care of yourself!

floria - I hope you manage to get some rest at some point this weekend. Take care of yourself - I hope the funeral goes as well as possible, and that your dinner party is real fun!

muppetgirl - hiya and welcome to the maelstrom that is the October thread! I apologise in advance for my inane ramblings!

MrsFish - your hair sounds good - I suggest you leave it a bit to get used to it - I wasn't quite sure about mine when I had it done - they'd blow-dried it straight - and ... well, let's put it this way, I don't do straight, sleek hair! It looks much better now that it's had a couple of washes without recourse to a blowdryer ... my hairdryer was bought to blow up airbeds ...

kitti - hiya - lovely to hear from you! Glad you enjoyed the aquanatal class - am at the thought of bits of teddy bear all over the table!
lol at the jojo maman bébé sale - dh was like a rabbit in the headlights the one time we ventured down there!

Am listening to the 90s anthems CD - have just been listening to nirvana - took me back to my days when I was working in France! Now, there are some stories from that time ...

Apricott · 22/06/2007 11:16

Morning all

Welcome Muppetgirl

Ejt - where do you get your energy? Quilting AND crocheting, and I seem to recall yoga and welsh lessons and playing music, not to mention having a job and a small child. Am impressed! I've been in the middle of knitting a cardigan for myself for quite some time now (it was supposed to be finished for the winter just gone!). Must finish it and maybe embark on something for the baby.

Kitti - hello again after an age. I knew not of this warehouse in Newport. Is it any good? Would you recommend a visit? Where are you based?

Turns out I had the wrong end of the stick about today's test. Wasn't the GTT, was just 'starvation bloods'. Presumably if there's anything not right with the sugar levels the GTT would be teh next step. I'm feeling so much better now I'd be surprised if there was anything amiss. Thanks for all your good wishes .

Has anyone here any experience of the Amby baby nest? I'd never heard of them until I think it was ejt mentioned them the other day. They look and sound fantastic. Showed DH whose initial reaction was that we weren't having anything that ugly in the house! Think have convinced him that this is a case of function over form. If babies really sleep as well in them as the blurb and reviews would have us believe then I will be sorely tempted even though already have perfectly good cot waiting in the attic. I still feel like it's too early to start buying for baby.

We give out our degree results this afternoon. Always a (largely) enjoyable occasion. We lay on wine and nibbles for the poor dear students - and plenty of tissues of course to mop up all those tears! Am looking forward to it.

Take care all.

Apricott · 22/06/2007 11:27

Just to clarify - the students' tears to which I refer and look forward are generally tears of joy! Am not some sort of evil lecturuer revelling in students' unhappiness

And Kitti - I only ask where you're at cos thoughts of a south wales get-together with babies at some point in the future are forming in my head. Just thought reading it back that it seemed a bit of a strange question out of the blue like that.

muppetgirl · 22/06/2007 11:32

Hi everyone,
JUst been in the middle of the 'racism' thread and it's so refreshing to hear you are all talking about real things!!
I am in the middle of crotcheting a blanket for no2 and are going to have a go at re-lighting my fire for knitting too.
Spoke to the midwife today as needed advice on what the sonographer said in my scan on wed -that either the baby's big or the dates are at least 2 weeks out! - and she has said that the 4 week growth scan should give me clearer dates. SO I am either 20 + 4 or 22 + 4.
Anyone else had this?
Also anyone with tummy cramps a little like braxtons or a low lying placenta?

HonorMatopoeia · 22/06/2007 12:26

Hi all,
Welcome Muppetgirl - I'm sorry but can't really help you with any of those things, I get cramps regularly but not sure i ever had Bh with Dd1 and certainly had none yet with this lo so can't compare. One of these wonderful ladies will have shed loads of advice for you though, I'm sure!
Amby baby nests sound great, I'm going to have a little researchwhen I finish posting.
Once more my brain has given out and I can't remember who has posted what - I'm so sorry! How do those of you who remember, do so?
I find that I'm marking days to the end of term now. School is out in 4 weeks but then I'll have to do a lot of helping in moving the old site to the new site - it's all very confusing. Then it's back for six days in september then FREE FREE FREE!!!
Oh well, I'd better get on to Dd's dinner as she's just opened the freezer and is sat there looking hopeful!
x

Kittiwake · 22/06/2007 12:27

Apricott I live near to Brecon but sometimes venture down south would be lovely to have a meetup at some point.

I am no expert on this warehouse thing as hadn't been before last weekend but I think they have a shop there next to there warehouse selling end of lines and returns at pretty low prices all the time then twice a year they have a massive sale where everything is half the already low prices. I managed to get a huge bag of maternity clothes and another huge bag of baby clothes for £40 although I was limited to neutrals which was probably just as well! It is madness though massive queue outside and then everyone rushing in and grabbing handfulls of stuff!!!

waves at Ejt glad to hear everything good with you so impressed by all you activities! my mother in law is making us an alphabet quilt really excited as I think it's going to be loevly and I really appreciate the hard work that goes into something like that! boo to your neighbours though for not treasuring your lovely blanket I think some people don't realise how long these things take. how is your garden coming along I have lots of veggies growing now looking forward to begining to harvest some.

Katsh · 22/06/2007 13:49

hi all, haven't posted since early days of this thread. Just wanted to respond to Muppetgirl - I'm nearly 24 wks with low lying placenta. I take it from your question you have it too? Mine is anterior and low. I have to have re-scan at 33wks. Haven't been told much else, but have googled for more information.
Sympathies to all those with back pain. I've got permanent back problems and this stage of pregnancy tips it all over the edge. Any good remedies for muscle spasms?

Apricott · 22/06/2007 13:53

Great news Honeyapple! Another boy!

Kittiwake - Brecon is so lovely. I grew up in Newport, then Llanover (just outside Abergavenny). I'm now living outside Swansea.

Ooh, you could cut the atmosphere here with a knife. The foyer is filling with anxious students. We put the degree results up at 2 pm. I'm starting to feel nervous on their behalf!

j20baby · 22/06/2007 14:02

great news honeyapple. congragulations

ejt1764 · 22/06/2007 14:10

Have had to get off the chair for a bit ? if you could only see me now ?

muppetgirl - looked at the racism thread ? didn?t want to get involved ?

I?ve been having Braxton hicks for nearly 8 weeks now ? did have contractions so strong thought everything was going t!ts up and ended up in hospital a few weeks ago, but now it?s just the BH ? my placenta is right at the front and quite low down so I only ever feel movements that hit the sides or top!

Kitti - I?m in Penarth ? would love to have a meet-up when we have the babies!
It?s bizarre about the blanket ? I don?t expect people to get all precious about the things I make ? I just want them to be used! Never mind, I?ll use the one my neighbours didn?t ? I really liked it when I made it, and I like it even more now ? it?s really chunky, made in Tunisian crochet.
My veggies are coming great guns ? we?ve been harvesting the peas (well, ds has ? he?s been eating them straight out of the pods!), and we?ve got 2 cucumbers that are ready to eat. The beetroot and turnips won?t be too much longer either ? yum! Can?t wait for my courgettes to start producing ? although I always end up with a glut! Enjoy your veggies!

HMP ? am very into the idea of an Amby baby nest ? DH isn?t so sure ? he points out that we have a perfectly serviceable crib upstairs ? think I may have to work on him a little more!
Good luck going til the end of term!
As for my perceived energy levels ? as ds is that bit older, I?ve been able to start getting some semblance of a life outside being ?mammy? ? I?ve enjoyed going to Welsh lessons this year: but the last one was this Tuesday just gone ? boo! I have a vested interest in learning Welsh though, DH is Welsh speaking, and speaks to ds in Welsh ? ds also goes to Welsh school ? and I want to be able to help him properly with his school work. It?s actually been a really good exercise for me too ? I teach French, so putting myself in the place of a language learner has been very interesting!
Enjoy giving out the degree results this afternoon ?

honeyapple - great news!!!

honeyapple · 22/06/2007 14:43

Those amby nests look great... and have a fantastic resale value on ebay...

muppetgirl · 22/06/2007 14:52

Thanks katsh, mine is 1 cm and should be 4-5cm not sure what that means but they are re-scanning me in four weeks due to baby too big for dates.
Ejt -thanks for the advice, husband thinks i'm going mad saying i think they're braxtons but they really feel just like they did with no1.
BTW he's a boy!

Mumpbump · 22/06/2007 14:55

Can't believe all the scans seem to be finished thankfully, all with positive results!! What's the next hurdle? Starting maternity leave for those who work? Any late scans??

muppetgirl · 22/06/2007 15:00

To all those with backache you can go and see a chiropractor (Spelling sorry!)
a lady on my first son's group did and she said it really helped.
I went after my son was born as the backache didn't improve -something to do with the ligaments losening up for the birth but still lose after the birth. I went for 2 sessions and it was FANTASTIC. Bearing in mind i found it hard to walk upstairs, bend over etc.
I even had him look at my clicking jaw (I developed after i had ds1!!) which was agony when i yawned, sounds daft but true!
Apparently the whole body losens up -even my jaw.
Haven't any backache yet but jaw starting to click, here we go again......

gemmamc · 22/06/2007 15:36

Hi all,
haven't posted for a while. I must confess I've been feeling pretty crap. Today I've seen the GP and I have:
-round ligament pain on both sides (but this is not so bad as it only happens once in a while)
-pain around the bladder area which GP also attributes to ligament pain, although I tend to think it has to do with the bladder being under growing pressure. Got tested (yet again - 4th time maybe) for bladder infection, as I've got symptoms, but that's not the cause.
-most worrying of all, a strange pain in my right side under my belly button which she thinks is due to preexisting bowel problem (IBS) and the pressure of the growing uterus. This pain comes and goes, but when it's there it stays for 24 hours at a time, and stops me from having a proper night's sleep and even from leaving the house, as I can't walk properly...before disappearing all of a sudden. Very strange. Anyone with similar experience?
-nasty piles (these were diagnosed a couple of weeks ago, though, and are actually improving now - at least some good news!!).
-pelvic and hip pain (ongoing, mainly happening at night - I'm on a waiting list waiting to hear from the physio...)

Oh dear. The wonders of the second trimester??? To top it all up, and of course, because of all this, I've been feeling pretty down and defeated. I also feel my dh does not really understand why I moan so much and seems to underestimate my problems.

I know none of this appears to be serious and they are all very common problems (why all together though??), and the baby is kicking and obviously doing well. But I am terrified at the idea of being in almost constant pain of one kind or another for another 4 months (and then labour!!). I am also going paranoid about the possibility that my bowel problem may be more serious than IBS (I've had appendicitis, so at least I know that's not what it is...) given it's pretty clear doctors don't really understand bowel problems very well and they are very difficult to diagnose....

Sorry for the rant. I needed to let off steam.

Will welcome any recomendation for pain relief that can work for all these problems in one go!! I was considering acupuncture...

Mumpbump · 22/06/2007 15:38

Gemma - sorry you're not feeling too good. I think bubba is kicking the sh*t out of my ribs and was just thinking today that another three months of pain is not terribly appealing... All I can suggest is increased fibre to help with piles and maybe the IBS as well. Otherwise, I know lots of people who swear by acupuncture so definitely worth a shot.

muppetgirl · 22/06/2007 17:36

Hi gemmamc
Iknow a lady that had piles ever since she had had children -way over 20 years ago and someone suggested taking a spoonful of honey a day and she said they all cleared up really quickly.
I understand you'd need to check if that was okay during pregnancy but worth a try.
Can't help with the rest but sounds pretty awful..
I've heard acupuncture is good too.

MrsFish · 22/06/2007 17:45

Tmi alert -

I have one pile left over from the birth of ds, it doesn't hurt or itch or anything it is just there and I can't get rid of it I think I may have to have it cut off after this one has been born I just can't get over the embarrassment of having to go see someone about it.

Its certainly correct that you have no dignity left after childbirth

muppetgirl · 22/06/2007 17:49

My embarrassing left over bit from pregancy no 1 is that i'm convinced i've been stitched up wrong but can;t go and ask anyone....
I am very sore down there when i've been cycling and also seem to find it hard to keep clean.
Anyone else got any other 'leftovers' from pregnancy?

gemmamc · 22/06/2007 17:53

MrsFish, I haven't even had a child yet...and I am only 22 weeks with my first....so I dare not think what will happen after the birth or for subsequent pregnancies (if the problems of this one don't put me off from repeating the experience iykwim).

TMI, I know.... - but I guess this may be useful for some. I thought I was in real trouble given how early in the pregnancy the problem started and how bad it became so quickly....

I tried a really good yoga exercise (basically pelvic floor exercises to be done with your bum up in the air while hugging a pillow....! - three times a day ) from a yoga for pregnancy book, and I think it helped a lot, as well as the prescription cream of course... I am continuing the exercises every day in the hope the problem won't be back soon, or at least not until I actually give birth to a child!

HonorMatopoeia · 22/06/2007 20:07

Gemma - sorry you're feeling so ill and down I hope some of these remedies help some of your problems,it seems really unfair to have them all at once.

ejt -thank you, I'm looking to the end of term and counting down in 'prison release' stylee!

I've been feeling so tired today, had at least 2 naps, really pleased Dh was working from home but poor bloke hasn't got a lot of work done . Also been feeling a bit low as lo seems to have gone quiet and Ihaven't felt much movement over hte past coupleof days. I'm pretty sure I have felt some though, just want her to have a good old wriggle and put my mind at rest.

My Dh has announced that he is taking Dd to visit his family in Finland the week after next. I'm pleased he's taking her (mainly to see his nan who is now over 90) but I'm distraught that I'll be without her for 5 days. What am I going to do?

HonorMatopoeia · 22/06/2007 20:09

Oh and I forgot to say.. .regarding left overs from pg number 1. . . my piles are awful but can't bring myself to see a doctor about them and my c section scar is still numb in places, which is very weird!

MrsFish · 22/06/2007 20:16
