Thanks. I'm really looking forward to the next three months now and just growing this baby.

Was employed until recently, but bosses thoughtfully removed my job from me a week after I told them I was pregnant. Although they did generously offer 3 months salary for the inconvenience.

After I had stopped laughing hysterically (they are fund managers so I didn't know they had a sense of humour), I started legal proceedings myself (3rd year law student too, because after I hit my 30's a lot of people started getting on my nerves).

Short story is 2 years salary after tax in pocket. But they did have the nerve to whinge that I was mercenary and greedy. I consider this a compliment from tax exile merchant bankers who specialise in asset striping!

ejt1764 · 20/06/2007 20:25

hi amie - nice to meet you! Glad you felt able to come out of lurkdom!
had to hold those pelvic floor muscles in to stop myself pmsl at the thought of those poor fund managers describing you as greedy!
enjoy your enforced extended ml!

Way to go amiej!!!! and welcome, most welcome to the group!!!!

PolarMummy · 20/06/2007 21:57

Hello Everyone and welcome amiej glad you decided to join us.

FT I would second the advice on the grief counselling, I lost my Dad a number of years ago and the counselling really helped, just having someone outside the family to talk to.

Well I had my scan today and everything went well although I am feeling rather deflated as the scan wasn't as clear as I was hoping and my blood pressure is up so I have to have it checked again in a couple of weeks. A wee question for the medics in the group!! My bottom line of my Blood pressure is fine its the top line which has taken a jump is there anything I can do to bring this down?

WinnieThePooh · 21/06/2007 02:08

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the group amiej.

Polarmummy, glad your scan went ok, did you find out the sex?

I have had a migraine again yesterday, not sure wehether to call midwife about them as I keep on getting them this pregnancy. When I was pregnant with DD1 5 years ago they seemed to clear up, but now they usually last a couple of days as paracetemol does not touch them and I can't take anything stronger.

Pheebe · 21/06/2007 09:01

Morning all and welcome ami, always good to hear from new people

Sorry to repeat myself but could do with your thoughts on my last post:

"Had a bit of a worrying afternoon. I got back from picking DS1 up from nursery and suddenly got the excruciating pain right across the top of my bump just under my ribs. If I wasn't pregnant and it was lower down I would have said it was IBS. It went after about 45 minutes of coming and going and me panicking I was in early labour and now I just feel sore and achy. MW reckons its really common and so long as it doesn't come back, get lower down my bump and there's no bleeding or fluid loss I shouldn't worry. Bub is still wriggling like a gymnast so I know he's OK. Anyone else had something similar?"

Bub is VERY quiet today, can feel soft little wriggles but have checked the hb which is still strong . No pain today either. I'm probably just being paranoid...

MrsFish · 21/06/2007 09:08

Yes, you are being paranoid. My lo seemed hardly to move at all yesterday, but is moving ok again this morning. If the heartbeat is still strong you should be ok

FloriaTosca · 21/06/2007 09:49

Pheebe I havent any experience of this so cant advise but if your MW isnt worried you should be ok...my lo has very quite days when I need to get the doppler out for reassurance and then other days when I think he/she is staging a breakout! I'm sure everything will be fine.
Polar I'm so glad your scan went well..try to rest and relax and hopefully your bp will right itself...it could just have been that you were tense at the scan...my bp went sky high when I had that check up last Thursday AFTER asking about my previous losses ( what did they expect!?)...2 hours later it was just fine!
And both of you thanks for suggesting bereavement councelling; we have actually applied for it through the Macmillan centre (who I have to say were just beyond fantastic to Dad and still are being for Mum) but they actually dont reccommend it until you have gone through the first 6 months of the grieving process... we are on their list for September. Truth be told, I'm actually relieved to have reached the angry stage, it feels healthier and more positive in a strange way than the crushing despair of loss and I'm glad Mum is showing such strength of emotion, because the woman who has been sorting out the house for the last 3 months "so you dont have much to do when I go" has had me worried sick (I had a great aunt who died 12 months to the day after her husband had passed; every important piece of paper was sorted and filed, every bin was empty, all the pots were clean in their proper place, every item of clothing was washed, ironed and neatly put away..even the clothes she had been wearing that morning were in the machine, washed and she was laid on her bed in her underslip, it was as if she had sorted everything and willed herself away...and I've had visions of Mum doing the same thing!) The anger is definately more positive step towards healing..the concelling should help too and hopefully if this LO makes it, it will give us all something incredibly positive to focus on and help finish the grieving process.(Poor little darling...so many hopes resting on his/her head already!)

Morning

Welcome AmieJ. So are you at home at the moment? Planning to go back to work? I have a 4.5 yr old DD and a 8.5 yr old DS... Will be nice to be me and LO during the day whilst they are at school.

I've got my scan tommorrow morning, feeling very excited and a little bit anxious... but sure all fine really. This baby is a real wiggler. MIL felt baby kick yesterday which was nice. She got really excited. DP not really bothered! That's the curse of being number 3. Hopefully the scan will get him a bit more interested .

I havent bought anything for baby yet, apart from some second hand nappies (reusable!) for some research before I fork out for new ones. Perhaps if we find out the sex at the scan then I might find myself lurking in the baby section of GAP or Hennies or somewhere...

Mumpbump · 21/06/2007 11:48

Morning all!

Polarmummy - excellent news on the scan! Don't know anything about blood pressure, I'm afraid so can't offer any advice on that point other than take it easy, maybe!!!

Welcome AmieJ and congratulations on making it this far. There is a separate pg after m/c thread you might find of interest. Dead impressed that you took your employers to the cleaners - they can be real *rseholes. Fortunately, my current employers are very supportive...

Pheebe - I haven't had cramping, but I have a very painful, bruised feeling at the very top of my bump, right next to my ribs. Thought it was because of my u/wired bra, but have changed to a soft nursing bra - little premature, but all my other ones are u/wired - and it doesn't seem to make any difference so I am now wondering if it is bruising from my karate champion of a baby...

Betsy - we now have a stroller for ds, a double buggy for him and the daughter of the woman who looks after him and a Bugaboo. Dh asked this morning if we really needed three buggies and I said of course we did because only the bugaboo was suitable for going for walks around the lakes near where we live... Other than the second hand cot for no. 2, I haven't bought anything else yet, alas... Quite fancy a bit of a spending spree...

Hello to everyone else. Sorry for shortish post, but have lots of work and other stuff to sort out. Am buying dh a flight in a vintage 'plane for his 40th birthday present - not an expense you need before signing off on maternity leave for 6 months - but a long-standing dream of his, allegedly... Not much to report, other than the fact that this baby is WAY more active than ds and ds is very active so very worried now about how I'm going to manage the two of them!!!

alicet · 21/06/2007 12:26

Hello ladies,

Normally should be at work now but had to leave to pick up ds from nursery this am as he has conjunctivitis. He is totally happy and well but they are worried because its so infectious and could affect others. While I can completely understand that its very frustrating. 'We've had 5 confirmed cases already' they said - so where has he bloody got it from and there are porbably no other children left to have it! Oh well - mustn't grumble... Can't say I'm disappointed to have the afternoon off with him! Plus no-one is on holiday at work at the moment so there are plenty of people to cover. So don't need to feel too guilty about letting others down....

amie - how did you manage to restrain yourself from saying 'pot, kettle, black' to the fund managers who called you greedy?!! Did they say it with any hint of irony? Anyway sure not having a job brings its own stresses but 2 years salary and time to stay with your baby guilt free while they're little without financial worries sound like a reasonable outcome! Hope it works for you....

polar - glad scan all good but sorry to hear you feel a bit deflated. I remember with ds I was expecting the 20 week scan to be so much better than the 12 week one and it wasn't - I remember feeling a little similar. This time I expected that so was able to enjoy it a little more.

wrt blood pressure (I think it was polar too that asked?) I'm afraid I will probably not be much help despite being a doc. As a surgeon its not a problem I have to manage very often. Def not sure about it in pregnant ladies but in patients developing high bp otherwise it is less worrying when its just the top number that is raised (the systolic BP) than the bottom one (diastolic BP). Reducing the amount of salt might have a some effect. It may be that it is raised because you are anxious - a one off high reading is not on its own a cause for alarm, more an indicator to keep an eye on it. Are they going to check it again soon? Sorry can't be more help!!!

Pheebe, funnily enough I got a muscular type pain low down on the left hand side of my bump this am but it settled quickly. But other than the bh's I had at about 18 weeks I have been pretty pain free. Sure you are just being paranoid but at the same time if you are worried go and see your midwife - thats what she is there for after all!!

Hello everyone else! Off now to enjoy some unexpected me-time while ds sleeps....

alicet · 21/06/2007 12:26

And good luck honeyapple for your scan tomorrow!!!!

alicet · 21/06/2007 12:29

And Winnie - I would call the midwife about your migraines if they are not something that normally troubles you (or are worse since being pregnant). It may be totally unrelated but headaches can be one of the symptoms of pre-eclampsia so worth getting your BP and wee checked to make sure you and the baby are OK. Again, likely to be a little paranoid but I don't think there's a lot wrong with a bit of paranoia as long as you seek advice if you are worried....

Apricott · 21/06/2007 13:27

Hello all

Welcome Amie - can't believe the bosses. Well done you!

Floria - So sorry to hear about your father .

ejt - your pain sounds just awful. This is just a suggestion from someone with no experience of these things at all, but have you thought about trying acupuncture? I think I'd give anything a go in your shoes and I know some people swear by it.

The worry about baby not moving enough is probably here to stay - off and on - until they're about three! DD used to sleep so soundly and still I sometimes used to stick my finger under her nose to make sure she was still breathing. Bet most mums have done the same.

My latest (probably unfounded) worry is that I've developed gestational diabetes - I've been suffering extreme tiredness and extreme unquenchable thirst. Am having a test tomorrow. Am less worried now that blood sugar level was fine this morning, but will feel even better once I've had the full GT. Not that it sounds like a very pleasant experience. Ah well.

jersey · 21/06/2007 19:17

Evening all, sorry not had time to catch up yet. Just dropping in, my back has gone again lifting DS2 ! Getting fed up with being in pain this preg. At least the boys have finished with the chicken pox now and DS2 has just started walking on his own. Baby seems to be doing somersaults these days.

If anyone is interested I have a Graco car seat (and base if I can find it) on the for sale section and a moses basket and bottle warmer.

Thanks got to go.

alicet · 21/06/2007 19:23

jersey sorry you've been having such a cr*p time. Hope you recover soon and that things settle down for you a bit so you can enjoy some of this pregnancy!

alicet · 21/06/2007 19:24

and apricott hope the GTT goes OK tomorrow... FIngers crossed that you're being paranoid!!

WinnieThePooh · 21/06/2007 22:17

Thanks for the advice alicet. I normally suffer from migraines when not pregnant, but Annadin Double strength normally does the trick a within a couple of hours. Paracetemol just does not touch them.

Had my BP checked last thursday at midwife appointment and all was ok then. Not due to go again until 12th July. Will call her if I get any more migraines before then.

FloriaTosca · 22/06/2007 08:15

Honeyapple; hope the scan went well..let us know.
Apricott; hope the gtt isnt too bad...I'll find out on Monday if they are going to put me through it too
I had the worst nights sleep last night.. needed to loo 3 times, gaviscon 4 times and lo decided to have a kick about at 4 am (seems to be sleeping peacefully now though!)....oh well, I suppose it will get me in training for October!.
Beautiful morning today after all the recent rain...baby sparrows sunning themselves on the shed roof, cute ...shame I've got to go to a funeral (one of dads old workmate friends), but I've got 10 for dinner tonight so at least I'll be busy entertaining instead of brooding
Have a good day (and weekend) all

muppetgirl · 22/06/2007 08:24

Hi, am still new to all this so might be butting in -sorry!
Am due Octover 07 (dates have yet to be confirmed as being bought forward at least two weeks. Previous due date 5th nov)
Am I in the right place?

MrsFish · 22/06/2007 08:24

Morning all, seems everyone has been busy the past day or two.

Weather is still shite here, lots of rain. Had midwife appointment yesterday, everything is spot on, my measurements are all spot on apparently. Lo was wriggling around, she had to chase him around for his heartbeat. Got next appointment on 12th July where I have to have some more blood taken, not sure what for, I didn't catch what she said.

Had my hair cut and coloured yesterday too, just a little lift with some red streaks put in. Not sure if I like it, but have already decided to go and get it redone before the wedding in august. DH didn't notice of course, I haven't said anything to him, waiting to see how long it is before he notices

MrsFish · 22/06/2007 08:25

Welcome muppetgirl

muppetgirl · 22/06/2007 08:29

Just off to take ds to nursery and then i'll be back to ask some advice!
Thanks Mrs Fish!

Kittiwake · 22/06/2007 09:39

Hi all

Haven't been around much recently as have been on my hols then really stupidly busy at work.

Hope everyone is okay and bubs are all doing well. All fine with me have had some heartburn but apart from that feeling pretty good right now.

I went to an aquanatal class last night was really good, my bump seemed pretty small compared to the ladies who were about to pop

Have also bought a cot from Ikea and am in the middle of knitting baby a teddy bear - at the moment my table is covered in body parts waiting to be sewn together [grin}

We went to the Jojo Maman Bebe warehouse sale last weekend in Newport think my DH was scared to death by the throng of hormonal ladies fighting for bargains

Hope everyone has lovely plans for the weekend

nellieloula · 22/06/2007 10:05

morning everyone and welcome muppet girl. Well, all my concerns about this LO not moving were quashed yesterday - had a really busy day in London, running around (amazing how fast you can go when your'e not with a 2yr old!) and lo and behold an acrobat is amongst us! Very reassuring - and can't remember who mentonned it, but I went through the same thing with a pain under my ribs with DS - changed bras, saw midwives and dr's and it turned out (from watching him in a late scan) that DS liked to lie in one place and just kick his foot high up into my ribs - all night for 4 months! I was bruised for some time but you soon don't notice it!
Other than that, nothing to report - hope you're all well though and have a good day.(and huge respect to amiej - love a bit of justice at other's expense!)
