Thought I'd get the new thread started as no one objected to my title suggestion

Sorry to hear that J20 - fingers crossed everything works out ok.

j20baby · 17/06/2007 15:16

thank you, i've just read it can be transmitted through close contact. like shaking hands or kissing, but is only harmful to nb baby's. at least my dd(7) wont be affected, even if she's got it, hopefully the ab should do the trick when i'm in labour.

WinnieThePooh · 17/06/2007 17:01

Hi all,

Inzi, enjoy your holiday.

J2O, sorry to hear your news, I hope all goes ok for you.

DD has slept a bit better since the we saw rthe doic on friday and got a new cream, so fingers crossed she is over it now.

DP has moved his stuff from what will become DD2's room so I have taken all the baby stuff from the upstairs cupboard (except box containing cot, travel cot & playpen, which he took downstairs for me.

Just sorted through all the cloth nappiies I have already got and decided we only need a few more Tots Bots size 1, which I like for night time use. I have got 16 Motherease Sandy's in small and 8 motherease one size nappies. I have also got 5 Samdy's in the next size up as well as 3 Tots Bots in Size 2. I have 5 wraps in each size so I might get a few more in the smaller size as well. Might as well take advantage of the council's generosity, They will give me £30 back for using cloth nappies but I need a receipt and for a HV to see DD wearing them.

alicet · 17/06/2007 17:31

J2O try not to worry too much about the group b strep. Its pretty common and the main thing is they know you've got it so can take the necessary precautions. Shouldn't be a problem if they take those precautions. Problem comes when they don't know about it.

I was advised by a gp friend to say to my midwife last time I had a green discharge so they would swab me for it! More than happy to play the system in this way! Usually if you wanted to get tested for it (which you can do) its a private test - not sure how much it costs though...

I should also say that even if you have group b strep and didn't know about it and didn't get antibiotics most babies would be born absolutely fine with no infections.

j20baby · 17/06/2007 20:51

thanks alice, think i'm a little bit in shock at the moment, hopefully i will feel better tommorrow when i've got my head round it, according to the mw there are no symptoms, but on other sites i've been reading, un-pg ladies are complaining of excess discharge, but this may be related to the antibiotics, i have had quite bad cm, so it may be a sign, mines not green though! eugh!

well i've stripped a bit of the wallpaper, but then it got too much so i've sat down

hope everyone else is good

alicet · 17/06/2007 21:14

I didn't actually have the green discharge - I was being a naughty girl and making it up to get tested!!

j20baby · 17/06/2007 21:15

i know, thats very norty but what i mean is, for them to test you if your having green discharge means there must be some symptoms mustn't it? or did they test you for various things, like std's?

HonorMatopoeia · 17/06/2007 21:31

J20 - don't panic!! I was diagnosed with Group B Strep last pg and all was fine. I had the antibiotics and, as alice says, the main thing is the fact they knowso they can take it into consideration. I regret reading up on it as it just panicked me to death.
Hope everyone else is ok, Inzi - have a great holiday and relax!
I've just written my formal letter of maternity leave and added the fact i don't intend to return after my 9 months - ah bliss
Night all x

HonorMatopoeia · 17/06/2007 21:32

I was diagnosed through a routine smear type thing btw

alicet · 18/06/2007 02:21

J20 I basically told the midwife I had been reading about group B strep and was worried because my discharge had changed colour - she gave me a swab to do myself.

HMP - great news about your letter - must get in touch with my midwife to get the form you need to tell your employer. They know but need to tell HR formally....

Having difficulty sleeping because I have had some exciting news - I AM AN AUNTIE!!!!! Bil and sil had a baby girl Lily late last night - she is 2 weeks early but apparently both her and mum are doing well. Not many details as yet but sil went in at about 6pm at 4cm dilated so it sounds as though it was quick for a first baby if nothing else!

Pheebe · 18/06/2007 10:03

Hello everyone

Another busy few days in the Pheebe household so apologies for my absence (again )!

J20 - try not to worry too much about the GBS, it won't cause you any problems, most people live with it all their lives and never know and it only affects a tiny tiny number of babies. There's no routine screening for it because you can be negative one week and positive the next so even with screening there will always be women giving birth blissfully unaware they have it. All that is necessary is to protect bub while you're giving birth, which they'll do then keep an eye on her so they can intervene quickly if she is affected.

Got a cleaning lady coming round in a mo, not sure if she's interviewing me or I'm interviewing her!!! I just can't do it anymore, my hips are agony, I have too much work on and I need to start sorting out rooms and clothes and equipment...

Just about getting used to idea of having another boy. My nieces are very very excited and have a list of names already.

SO SO CROSS NOW!!! Just had a phone call from the people we booked a cottage with for our holiday in July and apparently the owners won't accept children under 10!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe it!!!!!!!!!!! I could spit. Told them in no uncertain terms how disgusted I was. Won't ever be able to book anything with them again

Right, off to find somewhere that is child friendly!

Have a good day everyone

FloriaTosca · 18/06/2007 11:14

Hi All!
Congratulations Aunty Alice!!!! How wonderful for your bro and s-i-l and how lovely for your LO to have a cousin the same age to grow up with! . Dhs nephews are 9 and 3 so the age gap (certainly with the eldest)will probably mean they wont be very close.

Sorry to hear about the change in holiday Pheebe; to tell the truth because I've always had dogs I wanted to take on holiday I'm very careful to read the small print, but with animals you accept that some places have rules and regs; I must admit I'm shocked that there are places that ban babies and toddlers! I hope you find somewhere even better to replace it .

Sorry I've not been around much;the whole weekend has been taken up with p-i-ls 40th wedding anniversary and friends wedding celebration (they got married 2 weeks ago in St Lucia)which was where incidentally I discovered that the friend due in 4 weeks is expecting a baby boy that already is estimated at between 10 and 12 lb!!!!(rather her than me!)and we were also busy seeing my mum and brother on our first fathers day without Dad...
Sorry, but I'm now going to vent: We also had the upset of discovering in the Sunday papers that there actually is a drug available to treat mesothelioma, the cancer that killed my Dad 14 weeks ago, but we were not told about it because it isnt offered in England on the NHS!! When Dad was diagnosed in November we were told there was nothing whatsoever that could be done...because, according to the paper, it costs £10,000 a year to administer !... but the government immediately gives exactly that amount of money as industrial injury benefit to anyone diagnosed with asbestosis (the condition that causes that particular cancer) and we could have spent that money on the drug to at least give him some hope, and perhaps we might even have had more time than just the 4 helpless, depressing months we got with him after diagnosis.. who knows, it might have given him enough time to at least learn that he was going to be a grandad, or perhaps to have even seen and held him/her.. I cant believe how angry I am that we werent given that chance...It must be the preggie hormones, I'm usually much more pragmatic about things, or perhaps its the irony of reading about it on fathers day, but today with LO wriggling about like mad I'm really really upset and angry that he/she isnt going to know the wonderful grandad who wanted him/her so much...all because of money!

That is upsetting to read Floria

I lost my dad to leukemia 6 months after my wedding on Jan 6th 05, I was 5 months pregnant with ds1 at the time, it was awful so I know how you are feeling. In fact it has set me off crying thinking about it We must just tell our dc how wonderful their grandfather was when they are old enough to know.

MrsFish · 18/06/2007 11:53

Pheebe - I hope you manage to sort out another holiday for you all

alicet · 18/06/2007 12:13

Floria you had me in tears too reading your post. Really sorry to see you upset - entirely understandable too. If its any consolation sometimes medical matters are not reported exactly accurately in the media - there may have been other reasons why you weren't told about this. Sure that won't make the pain any less though.

Pheebe we're in the process of trying to book something for our summer holiday and I have been surprised at how many self catering places won't take small children. I guess I can understand why they wouldn't want a toddler rampaging through their beautifully decorated place with loads of breakables (if thats the case) and even elder children can cause damage but some places won't take babies either - I mean what harm can they do before they can move! And thats what you pay the damage deposit for isn't it? Hope you manage to sort something else out.

ejt1764 · 18/06/2007 12:30

j20,got dh making a fruitcake now!!!think he is getting bored being at home so has moved into the kitchen!!made me a bacon sarny this morning!!how lucky am i?!!!!

is anyone else getting lots of kicks down below?when shes not kicking my ribs on the right side shes kicking my bottom!!its a really weird feeling, like wind but only with feet!!!!

betsycoe · 18/06/2007 13:06

Hi everyone,
I have just caught up after a few days, things move fast!

Floria - I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. We lost my Grandad to asbestosis 3 years ago and my other Grandad has recently been diagnosed with the same condition. I hope you manage to get some comfort from the fact that your Dad is at peace and no longer suffering as I can only imagine how awful it must be to suffer from teh condition.

Alice - we have also decided on the Mountain buggy urban. However, apparently there is a World wide shortage at the moment so you might have problems finding a retailer with any in stock. If you are looking at alternatives the Out N About Nipper 360 was a very close second for us and comes in a twin option. We are going to get a single Nipper if we can't get a Mountain buggy in time.

Mumpbump · 18/06/2007 13:12

Morning all!!!

J2O - you seriously sound like you need to rest, young lady! Listen to what your body is telling you and if you get at all light-headed, have a short lie-down. Sorry to hear about the strep B thing, but if they know about it, they can deal with it so it shouldn't be a problem, long-term.

Floria - the NHS is so frustrating. My mum got diagnosed with lung cancer a couple of months ago and she'd been in hospital in Sheffied two winters running with chest infections and they just dosed her up with AB's. I got her in hospital in Kent and they ran LOADS of test and came up with this diagnosis. I think she would have got diagnosed sooner if they'd run tests in Sheffield, but the NHS really does seem pretty arbitrary sometimes...

Hello to everyone else! Very busy at work at the moment - for a change - so not much time for posting/keeping up.

Found time to check out the weight gain thing. I am due to gain just over 1 stone and then the baby is due to be another stone or so, so my total weight gain shoudl be 2st 2lb or something. Have put on half a stone so far in relation to my normal weight, but I always seem to lose weight at the start of a pg, so I think in reality, I have put on a stone if you base it on the reduced weight. Not much else to report. The wire from my bra is pressing on my ribs - don't know if that is due to increased weight of my breasts or my expanding ribcage. I stuck with the underwire bra last time and only just remembers how painful it got towards the end so am thinking of swapping into my nursing bra soon. Comfort versus vanity... Tricky!

Anyway, hope you all had good weekends and father's days where appropriate. Will be lurking and trying to keep up, but unlikely to post much in foreseeable future...

FloriaTosca · 18/06/2007 17:17

Sorry Mrs F and Alice, I really didnt mean to make you cry too...I just really, really needed to unload...I certainly dont blame the NHS as a whole or consultants in general but I am furious we werent told about the existance of the drug and consulted about its efficacy in my Dads case so WE could have made the decision rather than the self opinionated consultant. Betsy; words cant express how sorry I am about both your grandads. And Mump I do hope your hospital in Kent can work one of the NHSs daily miracles for your Mum ....I know they happen a lot; DHs grandad is a living breathing example; 6 months to live 5 years ago, now totally clear!
Sorry again for ranting and upsetting everyone...

greedygreedyguzzler · 18/06/2007 17:18

hello all! too much to read again and i thought about not posting cos i am so out of date with everyone but decided a short post was better than no post at all!

inzi - hope your back has improved.

sorry to hear of everyones problems,..........i think i saw that flora and J2O were having probs and sorry about your fathers day flora and the newspaper srticle.

havent read back any further than that, BUT................i did want to say to Mrs Fish.............i read your post on the due in sept thread about certain wet patches and it was so funny! and cringy!!!

MrsFish · 18/06/2007 17:21

Thanks greedy - I can laugh about it now but was so mortified for years, I still can not believe I could do something like that

FloriaTosca · 18/06/2007 17:36

Buffy I know what you mean about the kicks down south! LO seems to have found both my backside and my cervix and gives one or the other a good boot every other day or so!; the first is, as you say, like having wind, the second feels like a cross between trampolining and an attempted prison break out and is disconcerting to say the least! ...
I've also joined the binge eating brigade... I cant decide if it is pregancy or comfort eating that is the reason, but at the moment it is dry crunchy oat ceral that keeps me heading back into the kitchen repeatedly...well at least it isnt cream cakes!!!
