Aloha just wondering if anyone is any good at looking at scans I'm 11 weeks and wondering where the placenta is forming here in this pic . Just curious! Thanks xoxoxox

Lazysundays · 26/09/2018 09:58

Anyone else need to have more blood tests for blood group and antibodies? I freaked myself out when I got the letter, but gathering it can be common and easily treated with injections.

monkerina · 26/09/2018 11:38

@Lazysundays do you mean negative blood groups for anti D? It's very common, approximately 15% of the population is rhesus negative (I'm O neg) and if your baby is positive there's a chance you would produce antibodies which would potentially endanger a future pregnancy if that baby is positive too. If baby is positive you'll be given an anti D injection during pregnancy and post partum, used to be the case for all rhesus negative mothers (I had 3 shots with DS 3 years ago, plus with miscarriages) but now they can test for baby's rhesus status they only give anti D if baby is positive. It's all OK and perfectly normal, honestly!

I've just missed a call and am now FREAKING OUT there's something wrong with nuchal screening 😥

monkerina · 26/09/2018 11:41

It's almost certainly PPI or 'about your car accident' I haven't had 😅

Ohnonotanotherusername · 26/09/2018 12:28

@monkerina it's almost certainly fine, can you google the phone number? If it were the hospital I reckon they would have left a voicemail.

Lazysundays · 26/09/2018 13:08

@monkerina that’s right. They just left a note to say they needed to do more blood tests so I’m assuming from the booklet they left it is to test for this. I didn’t know anything about this and panicked thinking something would be wrong.
DONT freak out, probably a simple call to say all ok.
Another Q. If you had your bloods before scan will they give you nuchal screening results there and then at scan?

monkerina · 26/09/2018 13:25

It was a no number call, trying to convince myself that the hospital would have left a VM to call them. They did say that high risk results would receive a call within 3 working days to discuss further tests and next steps, normal results are delivered via post within 7 working days, trying to sit on hands and chill!

The blood they take at the booking scan is for different tests than the blood they take at the same time as the nuchal screen, I think it's because they're looking for specific byproducts likely to be produced in different amounts by the baby if certain genetic conditions are present- this is called combined screening (blood + nuchal translucency). You can choose not to have bloods (or indeed not to have nuchal translucency measured) but I don't think it makes any difference to when they deliver results, if you elect to receive them, iyswim? The sonographer and phlebotomist gather data which all goes off to the team to be processed and it's them that sends out the results.

@Lazysundays I think the midwives sometimes forget that most people don't deal with blood tests every day so hearing that you need more tests without prior warning is liable to freak people out!!

Ohnonotanotherusername · 26/09/2018 15:01

Easier said than done I know @monkerina but try not to worry. Even if it was the hospital, it's just a risk factor and not a diagnosis. Will be thinking of youThanks

unicornxo · 26/09/2018 16:32

@monkerina have you heard anymore? I think if it would have been the hospital they would have tried to call you again by now. Try not to worry Smile

Stargirl7 · 26/09/2018 19:26

Due 12 week scan on Friday but had our Panorama results yesterday and all low risk. Could not have been more relieved. We also found out the sex, which am keeping quiet at the moment!

luckyleeds · 26/09/2018 21:58

Hi hope it's ok to join ! Due 3rd April. Second baby. Already have a 16 month old DD. Feeling constantly hungry all day long and still shattered but don't think that symptom will leave me for a few years yet !

AllTheProsecco · 27/09/2018 10:58

Anyone else experiencing any cramping? I've got a bit of a stabbing pain quite low down, kind of groin area and a little bit higher but same side. Don't remember from last time if it's normal.

italianwifey · 27/09/2018 11:12

That’s good news @stargirl7 I’m pleased for you. Welcome @luckyleeds :-) @alltheprosecco I’m occasionally having mild pains low down on either side like you’re describing, I thought it was maybe just due to everything loosening/things growing down there! Not very painful though?

MigMog · 27/09/2018 12:04

@alltheprosecco I get them now and again. They are very quick, not highly painful. Only occasionally but can happen over the day. I think mine are muscular or ligaments from my hip or leg. One of my hips has been achy and it's always on that side, on the crease of the leg and body

Lorrie3 · 27/09/2018 12:19

With you on the cramps ladies hip and legs mostly ...ive been lead to believe it's normal in early stages and just everything expanding!

Familyfeud22 · 27/09/2018 13:04

Hi, hope it's okay to join!
Had my 12 week scan today, due April 11th!!
It's our first baby and we had a previous mmc so still super anxious but was reassuring seeing everything okay today! Hope everyone's feeling okay and so sorry to hear bad news Flowers

Annie264 · 27/09/2018 13:13

@AllTheProsecco I've been having that too, quite intermittent but always on the left side. I asked my midwife about it and she said it's perfectly normal, likely to be the ligaments stretching Smile

SheRaTheAllPowerful · 27/09/2018 14:34

@Stargirl did you do panorama privately? I’m 38 so should probably do it, feels a bit weird, my friend said to me yesterday ‘but if there is something wrong 13 weeks is quite late isn’t it ?’ I know she was voicing concerns as if it was her own pregnancy (she is 40+) but now I’m feeling a bit weird/nervous to do it.
I had an awful pregnancy with my twins because I was told I had a20% chance of losing one/both of them, so I was obsessive about hitting weeks 12, 20,24, 30 to give them a better chance. This time it’s only 1 but I am 8 years older and now I’m totally panicking.
100% sure this wasn’t her intention but feeling very Sad

39Suzy · 27/09/2018 20:42

Sorry to hear about the recent losses, my heart goes out to you ❤

I am now 11w and next scan is on 8th Oct.

I have been getting ligament pain around lower belly and crease of hips too. I had if last time so i think is normal. Knackeredness and nausea is definitely improving too 😁 however, i look about 16 weeks 😕. I think two pregnancies in quick succession is taking it's toll!!!! Desperate to keep it secret a bit longer, preferably until my early anomoly at 16w on 5th Nov. A long time to be breathing in...

AllTheProsecco · 27/09/2018 21:10

I'm not sure I would call it mild but perhaps I am a wimp!!

@39Suzy what will the age gap be? DD1 will be 20 months when this one arrives Confused

newrubylane · 27/09/2018 23:54

Hello. I have a question. The midwife called me today with the results of my blood tests from my booking in appointment, and said my iron levels were a little low (103 so not drastically low or anything), and said I should make an appointment with my GP for some iron tablets. However, I didn't think of it at the time, but I've literally just started taking a pregnancy vitamin supplement, also on the midwife's advice, which of course has iron in it - 14mg. So given that I'm already getting iron from my diet, plus these tablets now too, do you think it's necessary? Obviously it would probably be best to see the doctor to find out, but I don't really want to have to take time out of work to see the doctor if they are just going to say I don't need them. Do you think maybe a telephone appointment with the doctor would be a good start, to get their thoughts. Also, given that I can buy iron supplements really quite cheaply, if the doctor could just recommend the dosage over the phone then I wouldn't have the faff of going into the doctor (I'm rural so it's a few miles away) and then going to pick up a prescription. Or perhaps I could also the doctor if I can wait and see if they pick up from the vitamin supplement, and be tested again in a few weeks? Do you have any thoughts? Does anyone know anything about iron supplements and what kind of dosages I might expect based on my current levels? (not that I'm going to buy them based on this recommendation, to clarify - I just want to get a sense of whether I am likely to need them or not...)

newrubylane · 27/09/2018 23:56

Oops, I posted by accident before I'd finished - just to say thanks in advance for any help or advice! Smile

AwkwardAsAllGetout · 28/09/2018 06:40

So sorry to read the recent sad news. Look after yourselves x I’ve suffered low iron on and off for 2 years now. I’m not on any supplements at the moment, and thank goodness really as they really constipated me. I needed a huge dose of them after a blood transfusion and was told the stuff you can buy over the counter is pretty much useless compared to the stuff on prescription (I don’t have any kind of exemption card yet but my recent prescription was free as my pharmacist took my word for it that I was pregnant so please don’t worry about cost). If you don’t need quite such a high dose, try one of the liquid forms of iron, much kinder on your tummy. Spatone or floradix are good.
I’ve been a bit quiet as I’ve been fairly anxious. We told our families at the weekend and the reaction was pretty muted. I totally get that at dc 4 people are over it Wink but it’s dh’s first and I expected his family at least to be visibly happy. Maybe they were just so surprised I’d put myself through it again after our losses. Anyway.
We had our scan yesterday which put me a whole week ahead of where I should be, so I’ve now skipped week 13 totally which is a little strange and am now 13.5. I’m pretty sure my dates were right, especially as we had scans at 6 and 9 weeks, and now I’m worried as clearly this baby is going to take after dh and be a giant! Baby was not playing ball and I had to jiggle as if my life depended on it, but it would not budge, hence the picture of it essentially lying on its tummy looking like it’s crawling. It’s arms and legs look so long compared to 3 weeks ago, it really is extraordinary. I need to try and learn to relax now. My colposcopy showed no problem with my cervix, and the sonographer seemed happy with the unchallenged measurement of 2.2. Anyone care to have a stab at the nub for me if the picture isn’t too bad? I have no idea what I’m looking for!
