@toastfiend I’m glad the scan showed a healthy bean. Listen to the Drs you and the baby are the most important thing work and anything else do not matter. Rest and rest some more x

Sophlou · 26/08/2018 07:23

@toastfiend what a relief that you've seen your baby. It must be very scary being abroad but French hospitals are very good you're in good hands. Have you tried using google translate on your phone that's what I use with foreign patients at work.
Take their advice and rest take good care of yourself x

MistakenHoliday · 26/08/2018 07:28

Oh @toastfiend I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I'm glad bean is staying sticky and am sending all the positive vibes your way Thanks

ladycarlotta · 26/08/2018 07:47

@toastfiend how frightening - I'm so sorry this is happening to you, and especially far from home. Rest up and I hope that bean hangs on. Thinking of you.

cardboard33 · 26/08/2018 07:54

@toastfriend wow, that's a lot to deal with on holiday!!!! I hope you manage to work something out work wise.

With regards to me, thanks everyone but we don't have any choice but to just deal with it and everyone has their stuff to deal with, such as all of you ladies who have been through years of ivf and/or miscarriage to get to this point. On a day to day basis it doesn't affect my life atm so it's just with "big" things where it comes into play and we have to consider things in a different way to other couples do, but then whenever you decide to have a child you don't know how long you're going to live so it's no different really. It was quite funny though at my booking appointment as they were asking about medical history etc and I'm completely healthy other than this so was like "just the awake brain surgery for me... Don't wanna do anything by halves" :) it's weird though as I get way more nervous about pregnancy related appointments than I have with brain stuff. I don't know if that's because they try so hard to make them "fluffy and non medical" to not panic you, and I guess there's so much choice/fluff whereas we are used to dealing with "bigger" things very methodically, clinically in a fact driven way, so I just can't help thinking that it's all very melodramatic for no reason which makes me nervous.

Thanks also reg the not feeling pregnant thing... I was so worried about it as I'd read things saying you're symptoms should peak at weeks 9-11 then ease off. I guess they've still got time to peak... Just over a week to go till I hit week 11.

ALRM · 26/08/2018 07:55

@toastfiend so glad that the lillte bean is currently ok, good to know about the previa now so you can do what you need to do. Try not to stress about work. That is something you can deal with when you get home. Rest up and take care xx

Funnybunnyfluff · 26/08/2018 08:53

@toastfiend so pleased I woke up to everything being ok. Must be frustrating for you to be on holiday now in hospital, however sounds like they are looking after you well.

Had you told work about your pregnancy before you went away on holiday?

Also hoping the hospital is not too far away from where you are staying for your DP.

LittleKitty1985 · 26/08/2018 09:19

Second trimester today!

@toastfiend I am so sorry you have all of this to deal with. I guess it’s months of rest for you now. It goes without saying that work will have to be accomodating. Please keep us updated.

Anyone else suffering with trapped wind down below? Blush I have strange sensations and aches in my lower tummy and lower back, but I know it’s wind as it eases when released Blush I’m 8+6 today. Currently sipping a peppermint tea, hoping it will ease it.

Marmite2018 · 26/08/2018 09:49

@toastfiend sorry to hear about everything you have been going through. I'm just pleased to hear that everything is okay. Take care.

@VillageFete I have had this on and off. Try Deflataine by Rennie. They're a bit like Rennie's and are safe to take in pregnancy. They really, really helped me. I also try yoga postures. Have a look for "wind relieving poses", sounds weird but it will help!

Murphyrocks · 26/08/2018 10:05

@toastfiend oh my goodness that sounds terrifying, particularly in another country, but so glad to hear the bean is OK. Thinking of you.

@Villagefete yes I had this a lot around that mark, blame the constipation from early pregnancy exacerbated by eating a terrible diet! Again has eased going into the second trimester (eek!) so afraid not too much advice but hang in there!

toastfiend · 26/08/2018 10:44

Thanks all. I'm back home (well, still in France but lucky in that we're staying in my parents' holiday home so it does at least feel homely). I honestly cannot say enough good things about the hospital, they were absolutely fantastic and the level of care was incredible. If anything bad had to happen then I couldn't have asked for a better place to be looked after to be honest. Bearing in mind we arrived at 4am on a Sunday morning, I was seen immediately and within an hour had been examined, consultant called in, scanned, advised and given a room for the night. They even brought breakfast for DH this morning.

I'm now on bed rest for the next few days and if no more problems I'm allowed to fly home on Wednesday (provided I follow strict instructions to lift nothing, carry nothing and walk slowly.) Then I have to go for a scan at my local hospital once I'm home. I'm finding it quite confusing and worrying at the moment. My local hospital were lovely when I spoke to them but very much "We don't generally advise bed rest or diagnose this condition this early in the pregnancy." Butbi really did lose a lot of blood and the doctor at the hospital here very definitely stressed that if I don't rest I will lose the baby. So I'm feeling a bit at sixes and sevens now. Sad

Anyway, bean is apparently hanging in there for now so I'm thinking sticky thoughts and praying all continues to be OK.

HidCat · 26/08/2018 10:52

@toastfiend thank god you've been seen and got the relevant advice. Get plenty of rest and take everything one step at a time.

Gronk27 · 26/08/2018 11:04

@toastfiend it can be confusing when different doctors say different things but rest can only be a good thing surely? I hope you feel better soon in every way.

wordsmithereens · 26/08/2018 12:59

Oh @toastfiend, how scary that must have been. I'm so glad you got good quality medical care so promptly. As everyone else has said, focus on yourself and rest - work and the other things will work themselves out. Hope you make it home all right so you can have the comfort of being in your own surroundings and that follow up in the UK is just as good. Xxx

Nightmanagerfan · 26/08/2018 13:18

@toastfiend so sorry to hear of your scare. Rest up and hope to hear good news soon.

10.5 weeks ish here and apart from tiredness and occasional nausea I’m feeling loads better. I’ve started to crave healthy food and am thinking about swimming later this week, but still aware of the need to take things easy. Hope you’re all feeling ok!

I’m reading Rebecca Schiller’s book, “Your no guilt pregnancy plan”. It’s ok - very heavy on not wanting to give advice and that each mother should have the right to decide for herself, which I wholeheartedly agree with, but not having any children I think I’d prefer a bit more advice! Anyone have any other recommendations for pregnancy books?

Murphyrocks · 26/08/2018 13:43

@nightmanagerfan I highly recommend Expecting Better by Emily Oster; a few of us on this group have read it I think. Quite similar to what you're reading at the moment I think in reinforcing that every mother should decide for herself but it basically breaks down all the decent medical research and what it shows in terms of risks and benefits of various aspects of pregnancy/labour/birth, then includes what she did based on that research. It's my second time around and I've adjusted some of my behaviours from last time based on her research, although still not taking her word as law! But really useful to know what the stats show - I'm very info-positive!

Nightmanagerfan · 26/08/2018 13:47

@murphyrocks Great, thank you. I’ll look that one up. Out of interest, what behaviours have you changed in light of reading the book?

Murphyrocks · 26/08/2018 14:03

@nightmanagerfan main thing I'm changing is that I love a good bath but the 'standard' recommendation is to only have them warm, up to 38 degrees, which isn't really worth it imho! However the only medical research behind it that stands up is that raising your body heat too much during the first trimester can cause birth defects, but after that you're good to go. So at 13 weeks today I'm looking forward to enjoying some hot baths! I'll still monitor the temperature though to make sure I'm not going too silly. She also warns that gardening is actually a much bigger risk for toxoplasmosis than changing cat litter as you're more likely to come into contact with it in the soil, so I'm not doing any gardening that involves contact with the soil which I did last time.

The research also suggests that up to 1 alcoholic drink a day is fine from the second trimester; I strictly limited myself to 1 drink twice a week last time and while I don't plan to drink every day I'll probably be less stringent about only twice a week, for example around Christmas I might have 1 drink a day but for a few days in a row. Oh, and the research on caffeine intake is pretty iffy too so while I've actually been totally off coffee due to morning sickness anyway I'm not monitoring that as carefully as I was last time.

I'd definitely have a read though - I finished it in less than a week and found it very interesting. Lots of good stuff in there about the research on different labour and birth choices too.

Finally for later I'm a big fan of the baby whisperer book by Tracy Hogg; helped me out a lot when I thought I might never sleep again!

VillageFete · 26/08/2018 18:26

Another fan of expecting better here. Defo worth a read.

I’m 8+6 today and have period pains. The exact same as I would get a day or two before my period. They are in my lower back too. They are quite uncomfortable, but I think some of it’s wind. Is this normal? They’ve lasted about ten minutes and are easing now.

PartridgeJoan · 26/08/2018 18:46

Hello :) been lurking for a while - can I please join? My EDD is 01/03/2019 and this will be our first!!

Is anyone else experiencing random bouts of excitement, followed my worry?! Can't work out if I'm more excited or nervous...

HidCat · 26/08/2018 19:06

I second the Baby Whisperer books! Godsend! I'm currently reading the positive Birth Book. It's all about the choices you have in labour and gives lots of info.

penguins18 · 26/08/2018 19:09

@Nightmanagerfan I just started how to grow a baby and push it out and so far am enjoying it. I also bought pregnancy for men for my partner and have thoroughly enjoyed reading that myself as it has a lot of stats and info in it!

Funnybunnyfluff · 26/08/2018 19:50

I like the pregnancy books for men I read my husbands and found out loads made me smile lol.

I am scared more so than excited at the moment I think until my 12 week scan I don't believe it's real if that makes any sense. I have not had a private scan. I think the same for my DH.

Funnybunnyfluff · 26/08/2018 19:50

@PartridgeJoan
Welcome and congratulations 😀
