Not sure about you all but I'm definitely feeling a lot better now at 14 weeks. Let's hope it lasts!! As you were.....

@powkin sorry to read your update. Hopefully you will get some more information/reassurance tomorrow. Thinking of you.

Visit with my midwife today and nice to know everything's fine. Only 14 and bot weeks but found a heartbeat quite quickly!

Anyone else who's had more than one, have you held off buying things? I just feel like we need to know the sex first as we currently have boxes of girls stuff when it might be a boy!

UndercoverLauren · 28/08/2018 15:20

Starting to show now and I have a job interview on Friday :S My mum's lent me a dress and cardigan that hides the bump.

lanalawr · 28/08/2018 15:23

@powkin Such a stressful wait for you but at least you're able to go in tomorrow. Hoping all is well and they'll just keep a closer eye as your pregnancy progresses.

@Notquiteagandt What do you think of the recline on the seats of the mountain buggy? I looked at a friend's duet yesterday and put dd in it. She didn't seem keen on the recline, it looked a lot more than her Silver Cross. Still don't know if we'll need a double with a 2.5 year age gap but dd currently naps in the pram. Will wait until Christmas to decide but I want an idea of what we're likely to want. I've also thought about the city mini double (want a carrycot to fit and maxi cosi car seat as a bonus). Sorry for all the questions!

@MrsSnootyPants2018 We aren't buying anything yet. I've got unisex newborn bits anyway then girls clothes for an older baby. I'll need to pick up some winter bits but will get round to it at some point. I feel much less worried about getting stuff this time because we've got some clothes, blankets and a crib from dd. Will need to bulk buy muslins though! Grin

twiglet · 28/08/2018 15:44

@powkin was it the spinal bifida hormone result which came back? Hopefully you can see someone soon but my friend also got called in for the above if it is, went for more scans and consultation and although she had elevated levels her pregnancy is fine. So I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry they have to tell you potential issues.

Notquiteagandt · 28/08/2018 15:44

@lanalawr the seat reclines further as the seat is designed for a much smaller baby then the silvercross chair or a carrycot to be put over it. She will be 3 when babys born no? The seats are quite narrow so if shes a tall girl you may not get as long out of it as other doubles. Whilst it converts to a single its a little more fiddley then just clipping a chair on and off. If its something you think you will alternate between regularily. (Ie use as single when eldest is in nursery etc)

Other prams ie. Donkey, vista, icandy etc whilst later 2 not side by side. Are easier to turn from double to single. 2nd chair clips on and off easy.

I love the city double. But it is stuck as a double and rather cumbersome if you only need the 2nd seat for ocassional nap or to take just the one out. But its the easy fold that sells it.

All of the above will take a pebble carseat and have a carrycot option.

Have you looked at buggy boards? You can get some that are a little chair or clip on and off as a scooter. Give you option to sling carry baby and put eldest in pram for ocassional nap if needed? Whilst keeping a single pram.

AliceRR · 28/08/2018 15:58

@powkin hopefully the nothing serious but can understand why you woke worry. Hope you get answers soon!

@alicejj8x I don’t know what a sleepyhead is even from the pic 😂

I’m not shopping for baby yet, feels a bit early, but had to buy more maternity clothes today!

Alicejj8x · 28/08/2018 17:00

@AliceRR
It's a little pod they can lie in and have a nap of sleep in in their cot or just have a little lie down in lol

I was about to buy one Friday from mother care £130!! But my friend had said I can have hers :)

AliceRR · 28/08/2018 17:20

@Alicejj8x 😊

I just found out my colleague who I’m friendly with and works in another office just had her baby boy (I am the third person pregnant in our team at the moment!) and called it a name that is top of my list, albeit I like it for a girl!

I feel slightly put out although I could still have the name (we are not in the same family / friendship group / we don’t even work in the same city) and DH isn’t set on it so we wouldn’t necessarily have it but still... what are the chances

powkin · 28/08/2018 17:29

@twiglet - the midwife didn’t say, she only said it wasn’t Down’s but now I’m wondering if I misheard that or imagined it. Sonographer had no concerns at 13 weeks so not sure if they’ll do more in-depth measurements or anything tomorrow? I’ll be 14+5 tomorrow so not sure what more they’ll see.

lanalawr · 28/08/2018 18:02

@Notquiteagandt Thank you so much! She'll be 2.5 when the baby is born and is tall (dh is 6'5"!) so I don't think the duet is for us. We're likely to keep our Pioneer as a single so would just (possibly) need a cheap second hand double for long days out and naps. I guess our alternative is to sell the Pioneer and buy a tandem that can convert to a single but I've heard that they can be more difficult with steering and kerbs when there's a bigger weight difference between children. Hopefully she'll have dropped her nap so we'll only need a buggy board but I'm not holding my breath!

MakeLemonade · 28/08/2018 18:54

Good luck for tomorrow @powkin - I hope they’re being over cautious and you’ve nothing to worry about 🤞🏼

UndercoverLauren · 28/08/2018 19:05

A warning about sleep pods - the Lullaby Trust say they increase the risk of SIDS as they're not a flat surface.

maxiflump1 · 28/08/2018 19:10

@powkin we had to go for a scan at the fetal medicine unit with DS. They have much much more sensitive scanning equipment than they have in the ante natal ward so they should be able to get a clearer look at whatever they are concerned about.

With DS At our 20 week scan the sonographer couldn't see the heart properly and was worried there was a problem. The fetal medicine machine gave a much more detailed scan and they could see in seconds that there wasn't an issue. Hopefully will be similar for you x

@UndercoverLauren the sleepyhead has a solid bottom with no cushioning at all. And breathable.

Think thats more aimed at ones that are like a cushion. Really thick and soft on bottom. Or ones that position baby like the cocoona baby.

The cocoona baby is used in french maternity hospitals though.

So its just as parents our prerogative isnt it.

I plan to use a sleepyhead, snuzpod cosleeper crib and swaddle. As I believe in the benefits for 4th trimester.
But I can totally see why others would choose not too. Flowers

maxiflump1 · 28/08/2018 20:15

@Alicejj8x @UndercoverLauren @Notquiteagandt. www.madeformums.com/news-and-gossip/tesco-mothercare-and-ebay-remove-sleep-positioners-from-sale/43265.html

This article is quite useful as talks specifically about sleepyheads. Although they weren't withdrawn from sale they are not recommended by the lullaby trust. I personally wouldn't use one but it's up to the individual as you said.

OP posts:
powkin · 28/08/2018 20:29

@maxiflump1 - thank you for that info. Fetal medicine is in the same room as the antenatal scan department at Homerton but I guess they have a few fancier machines!
I’m trying to hard not to freak out but it’s impossible not to keep going over worst case scenarios. What I’m most terrified of is a situation where I have to make a judgement call on whether to continue with the pregnancy. If there was something so wrong that the baby wouldn’t survive anyway that would be easier (I imagine) than a ‘it might be ok it might not’ situation where I have to keep anxiously waiting.

Alicejj8x · 28/08/2018 20:41

Thanks for the info on sleepy heads

I know so so many people
Who have used them and have no issue what so ever :)
Tbh I think with most things there's always going
To be some sort of warning:/ negative reviews but personally I don't see any issue with the sleepy heads so I will defo be using this :)

It won't be for their main sleep it'll be for a little nap here and there anyway

Alicejj8x · 28/08/2018 20:43

@AliceRR

Ah wow that's crazy they do say it comes in 3s don't they

And oh noo!! That's abit annoying isn't it especially if you had that name picked out but you still could call
Your baby that name thou :)

Lookingforadvice123 · 28/08/2018 21:05

Good luck powkin, will be thinking of you tomorrow, what time is the scan.

Re the decisions you're worried about having to make, try not to let your mind go there yet. If there was nothing alarming on the scan itself then I think there's every chance that it's nothing too serious.

AliceRR · 28/08/2018 21:08

@Alicejj8x Yes tbh if that’s the name I want at the time I will still call my baby that but we’ll see as it’s not DH’s favourite!

@powkin Good luck tomorrow. Try not to overthink although I know it’s easier said than done.

Lookingforadvice123 · 28/08/2018 21:12

Is anyone sharing names on here?

For a girl we are 100% decided on Emilia. Boys names aren't so easy as we already have DS who took our number 1 name! Booked a private gender scan for a week Saturday though so we'll find out soon enough.

Cheery1 · 28/08/2018 21:15

Sounds really stressful @powkin, wishing you all luck tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you. Xx

Since2016 · 28/08/2018 21:20

Oh @powkin how scary. Will be thinking of you tomorrow xxx

Since2016 · 28/08/2018 21:23

Re names. We’re sort of decided - as our DD has an unusual (for the UK) Irish name we need a ‘matching’ name for this one. I’m sort of decided on a boys and girls name but struggling with a middle name for a girl. Not sharing yet though! My girl name option is quite popular now which puts me off... 💔
