@jeanzbeanz no shame in that. Everything I have been told/read about hyperemesis is that there is a very high percentage of woman who abort very much wanted pregnancies due to being able to physically/mentally cope with being so ill. Which is heart breaking but understandible so you certainly are not alone in having fleeting thoughts.

Have you been refered to the mental health team by your MW?

My midwife refered me automatically with out me asking. As she said illness in pregnancy is automatically a red flag you may later need a hand. As feeling so poorly only natural your mental health will suffer as a consiquence. Which makes sense. And im grateful to be in the system should I need it.

bubblybrit · 22/08/2018 12:28

@AliceRR. Thank goodness it’s not just me! I also have targets to hit and usually I’m so on the ball. Lately I’m just plodding away one day at a time! So don’t really feel very focused on driven at all 😢 hoping that I get some energy back shortly. My manager has requested a desk assessment so that I’m at least a little more comfortable at work....the first slot is the 4th Sept!

AliceRR · 22/08/2018 12:39

@bubblybrit I’m the same. Basically wishing the days away til I can go home and then feeling bad I haven’t done as much as I would have liked 🙄 I’m having an assessment too but not sure when. Not sure what they even do to be honest except she mentioned I lot get a new chair!

lanalawr · 22/08/2018 12:48

@Lookingforadvice123 Don't worry it's not just you. I look at my app occasionally and tend to read a few weeks at a time. DH is better. Last time around I could have told you without thinking how many weeks and days pregnant I was but not this time. It's mainly due to having less time to spend looking at these things this time.

I really feel for those of you who have struggled with sickness. I don't think anyone who hasn't had it can truly understand (me included). Fingers crossed it does lift/improve soon!

jeanzbeanz · 22/08/2018 13:16

Ahhh you ladies are so kind. It felt good to get that off my chest, I feel so guilty for not loving my baby already!!

@Notquiteagandt no I've not been referred. Tbh I have found the midwife has been a bit dismissive about the sickness, I guess they get so many women complaining of it. And I've not had it THAT bad, like you 😖

jeanzbeanz · 22/08/2018 13:19

@lanalawr yes totally agree that if you haven't had severe morning sickness you can't really understand how bad it is. I've had one bloke tell me it was all in the mind (😡) and a few ladies saying "oh if you think pregnancy is bad now, just wait until the third trimester / giving birth / you have a baby and you are exhausted" etc etc.

Notquiteagandt · 22/08/2018 13:22

@jeanzbeanz pregnancy sickness support are a great charity that have people to speak to and a wealth of advice. Deffo worth getting in touch with them Flowers

Just luck of the draw I think who you see.
Some drs are fantastic others not so much.

I think its reassuring to know so many others in same boat. But so heartbreaking to see the lack of help/support/understanding out there.

MrsY87 · 22/08/2018 13:30

@MrsSnootyPants2018 DH is getting the snip as soon as these two are born...no way are we risking an accidental 5th(&6th!) I think I'll probably go on the coil or something too to make doubly sure incase we are the unlucky ones where the snip doesn't work! 😂

MrsSnootyPants2018 · 22/08/2018 13:53

I'm seeing my midwife Tuesday. She told me if it hadn't settled by then (nearly 14 weeks) then she'll flag it.

lanalawr · 22/08/2018 14:22

@jeanzbeanz I definitely count myself lucky! I've got a friend who has had hyperemesis in both her pregnancies and it's awful! That said, I have another friend who had it on her first but not on her second (she was still ill but only early on and it was manageable, "normal" morning sickness). It might not happen every time for those who choose to have another pregnancy.

bubblybrit · 22/08/2018 14:27

@AliceRR. I’ve been told that I’m likely to get a new chair, some form of back support pillow thing and a foot stool! 😀 when are you thinking about starting mat leave? I’ve got quite a few holidays to take so I’m trying to wing it that I don’t need to go back after Xmas holidays. Would be ideal!

AliceRR · 22/08/2018 14:40

@bubbybrit We’ll have to compare goodies once we’ve had our assessments! My due date is 10 Feb so thought I might work til end of Jan if I can but I have 23.5 days leave left currently which is more than a month and I’d have to use those hols before 10 Feb I believe. It depends on the weather too but I could work from home if it gets quite cold / snowy / icy... I’m seeing the HR woman next week to discuss options 🙂

Alicejj8x · 22/08/2018 14:56

14 weeks tmo and feeling more tired!! Swear the exhaustion was meant to wear off.
Wish these bloody headaches would do one toooo

welshweasel · 22/08/2018 15:09

Had my 16 week appointment - all good, heard the heartbeat and was told my uterus is a lovely size 😂

Alicejj8x · 22/08/2018 15:23

Question
Have No paracetamol in the house where I work only calpol lol do you think I can take calpol as it says contains paracetamol

Lulabell1 · 22/08/2018 15:26

I wish i could have just a chAir let alone a foot stool and back rest at wirkSad really finding it hard i sobbed in the toilet yesterday i didnt have 1 lunch break from 9-6 back to back clients. After i get upset i feel guilty!! The sickness is still here at 15+2 dont see any sign of it clearing a stone and half down!! I havent had any letters about 16 week app but i do have ny early gender scan on sat very exciting x

welshweasel · 22/08/2018 15:31

Yes Calpol is fine - you just need to work out how much you need to get 1g - it’s usually about 20ml of the 6 plus but do check!

Alicejj8x · 22/08/2018 15:34

@welshweasel

Thank you ! I shall go and work this out :)

Just worried myself as it says online if you have headaches it's a sign of pre eclampsia but had my blood pressure checked last week and everything was ok there?

bubblybrit · 22/08/2018 16:03

@AliceRR. My EDD is 15th/16th Feb depending on whether you listen to sonographer at private or nhs scan! HR have advised me that it is easier to take holidays before rather than after maternity leave (although I do have the option of both)! Just need my manager to agree so will need to speak to her shortly and hope she agrees lol 😀

bubblybrit · 22/08/2018 16:06

@Lulabell1. That sounds tough. What kind of role do you do? Can you scale back or tweak your hours etc? I’m more or less chained to my desk which is the worst possible option for backache/sciatica! Trying to get up and move around every so often!

AliceRR · 22/08/2018 16:18

@bubblybrit Well yes and I worked out that I would be due back around Jan 2020(!) and holiday year runs May to April so I would have accrued a new set of hols to use... Trying to work it out money-wise too as we get enhanced mat pay for 6 months but then it would be 3 month SMP and 3 months no pay (if I take a year off)

AliceRR · 22/08/2018 16:20

@Alicejj8x The headaches are a pain. Its easy to worry if everything is a sign of something else though but seems usual to have headaches at this stage. You can always speak to your GP or MW if you’re worried. My GP is quite good with phone appointments which is often easier than going in (if you just want to talk things through)

Fredthespider · 22/08/2018 16:42

16 week MW appointment for me today, no heartbeat check, apparently it's now only after 22 weeks that they try to find it as in some people it's difficult to find and causes more stress than it's worth. She's recommended H&M for maternity clothes and said that our local shop has some in store which will be nice as I can actually try them on. I picked up some New Look jeans from the sale and they're skinny ones, but not stretchy skinny so a bit snug to put on and OH pointed out that there's no way I'd do that when I'm huge, but I loved the over bump comfiness :)

1Wanda1 · 22/08/2018 16:49

Hello everyone, am hoping to join this group. Bit about me:

42 years old
This will be my 3rd baby - the first 2 are teenagers now
16.5 weeks pregnant with a baby girl (did Harmony test).

I had a midwife appointment today and she listened to heartbeat with the Doppler and all was fine.

I've told 2 close friends about the pregnancy but for some reason I can't articulate, I am terrified of telling people more widely. I feel almost embarrassed about it, as though people will think/say "why are you doing that? Aren't you happy with the 2 you have?"

Because of this, I don't have many people I can talk to IRL about things like how difficult I am finding it to find clothes! Maternity stuff too big, as is most non-maternity a size up. What are you ladies wearing in your second trimester?
