Not sure about you all but I'm definitely feeling a lot better now at 14 weeks. Let's hope it lasts!! As you were.....

I had the NHS and private NIPT. I couldn’t imagine not having it... whether you’d choose to terminate, or just use it to be informed. Knowledge is good imo 👌🏼

craftymum01 · 20/08/2018 21:49

@DeliberatelyGinger I didn't :) didn't with DS either.

Think I must be massively in the minority as the sonographer spent 10 minutes looking for my consent forms before asking me and me telling her I do not consent. Then she asked well why was I there!

Baby160P · 20/08/2018 21:58

@DeliberatelyGinger I've just been drinking squash which is very unlike me xx

jeanzbeanz · 20/08/2018 22:24

@DeliberatelyGinger I almost didn't. I wouldn't terminate, no matter what, and I'd be very nervous of doing the invasive testing if I got a high risk result, so I had decided it was pointless to have the test at all. But literally in the waiting room before the scan my husband said that he actually did really want to know if there was likely to be any problems, so we had a change of plan and did do it! I have a couple of friends who haven't done it, for the same reason as I wasn't going to. I did feel like I could be setting myself up for needless worry. However now it's done and I was low risk I'm glad I have one less thing to worry about.

jeanzbeanz · 20/08/2018 22:29

On food, I'm avoiding deli meat and unpasteurised milk (eg brie) and really rare meat, I'm also trying to remember to wash my veggies, but I'm being pretty relaxed tbh. I've had a (small!) glass of wine with my meal a couple of times in the last few weeks, and sometimes I have a sip of my husband's g&t. I don't do fizzy drinks or hot drinks so caffeine isn't a problem for me.

Each to their own, but I'm being fairly laid back about the "rules".

Notquiteagandt · 20/08/2018 22:31

@DeliberatelyGinger I didnt as I was having an anixious pregnancy and knew id over analyse the results. And I also wouldn't want to risk the further testing. With the amnio testing. As if it came back negative id feel I had taken a needless risk. I also wouldn't terminate.

So those reasons alone I didn't do it.

No one questioned it. When I told my midwife my reasons why not she said I seemed well researched so understood but if I changed my mind just tell sonogrammer on the day.

I never once felt pressured or had it questioned.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 20/08/2018 22:34

The invasive NHS tests are why I went for NIPT. I would terminate for a chromosomal abnormality.. so I wanted to be sure, without putting my child at unnecessary risk.

I suppose if you wouldn’t terminate, it’s just a case of if you’d need time to mentally prepare etc.

welshweasel · 20/08/2018 22:42

Even if you wouldn’t terminate it’s still useful to know in terms of planning for the birth, getting detailed cardiac scans, making sure you deliver at a centre with a children’s hospital etc.

Rowse · 21/08/2018 06:57

Is anyone else still felling nauseous? I'm 15+5 and I feel sick most evenings or if I wake in the night and I am sometimes sick in the morning and I'm wondering if it's caused by my pregnacare vitamins, I was taking the Plus ones (one multi vit and one omega) and a couple of weeks ago I started taking the Max ones (two multi vits and one omega).

I take them in the evening which makes me think it might be the cause.

I feel much better than I did in the first trimester but would love for the nausea and last bit of sickness to stop!

FrowningFlamingo · 21/08/2018 06:57

I had NIPT as i would have wanted to prepare mentally and financially if here was a problem. I think DH and I would disagree about whether to continue with the pregnancy or not so that would have been really tough but I'd still have wanted to know either way. Some of the stuff they test for isn't compatible with life either and for those conditions I think I would have terminated rather than go through a whole pregnancy only for such horrible heartbreak at the end.

Doodlebug19 · 21/08/2018 07:07

Hello ladies,

Just wondered if I could join you all! 16+4 with first baby due 01/02 and have been keeping up with the threads Just haven't been brave enough to post yet! Smile
Next scan not until Sept 17th and I'm not sure if if I can wait that long for the gender! Smile

Lookingforadvice123 · 21/08/2018 07:10

At my hospital if you come back with a high risk result from the combined screening, they offer you the NIPT for free before more invasive testing. I had the screening both times, it's one less thing to worry about through the pregnancy for a few days of worry (I was so nervous my phone was going to ring Weds-Fri last week!).

I'm still really nauseous Sad haven't been sick in a week now but I think that's because I go to bed so early. I feel really ill in the evenings but sometimes it starts as early as 3pm. I'm 13+6 and it sucks as by this point with DS I was just tired but not sick at all.

Yakadee · 21/08/2018 07:43

@Doodlebug19 - welcome! I'm due 3rd Feb and my scan is 18th September - like you, can't wait to have another look at that gorgeous bean! X

Cheery1 · 21/08/2018 07:56

Hi @Doodlebug, I’m due 31st Jan - got moved back at my 12 week scan, but stuck here as everyone’s so nice!

Foodwise, I’m avoiding alcohol and caffeine, and then trying to eat well. I’ve really gone off meat but I don’t eat much of it anyway. DH is a cheesemonger so missing all the lovely cheese we normally have. Though gone off goats cheese too, normally a fave. Currently craving is orange juice and we don’t have any 😬

@Deliberatelyginger I did have the tests as I’d rather know. Like lots of ladies, I wouldn’t have had a termination, just better to be prepared IMO. Having said that, I know someone who had a 1 in 49 score for Downs for her daughter and that turned out to be misleading. Her DD doesn’t have Downs and has no issues so...

Had 16 week yesterday, very underwhelming. Sort of wished I hadn’t had to go after dragging my two year old across London on public transport!! No heartbeat check or anything tbh. Midwife was lovely though.

hayley013 · 21/08/2018 08:17

@Rowse I found the pregnacare made me very nauseous, mentioned to midwife and she said she's known for the same to happen to others. I just take the tiny vitamin d and folic acid tablet from Holland and Barrett and have no issues with that xx

Jesscaar · 21/08/2018 08:17

Hi @Doodlebug19, welcome to the group! I'm 15+6 today, and I have my 16 week midwife appointment later this morning!
20 week scan is 19th Sept, and it feels so far away!

Yakadee · 21/08/2018 08:17

@Cheery1 - aww, how disappointing! It's mine on Thurs and was really hoping to hear the heartbeat! X

Cheery1 · 21/08/2018 08:20

@Yakadee I think if you’re really worried you can ask them, but it seems to be standard not to. Basically because it’s really hard to find. It was a bit pointless tbh!

Cheery1 · 21/08/2018 08:23

When are people’s 20 week scans? Mine’s 13th Sept, seems so far away! Then consultant appointment on 17th, gulp 😳Had a pretty tricky time with DS so quite nervous about that.

Yakadee · 21/08/2018 08:24

@Cheery1 - I've got it in my head that they did it at my 16 week with DS. I'll ask anyway lol. I'm wanting to look into a consultant appointment too so will be asking about that x

lanalawr · 21/08/2018 08:32

@Lookingforadvice123 I'm not sure if supermarket chorizo is considered lower risk. I heated it through in a meal rather than eat it without hearing but probably didn't cook it hot enough to kill anything off. I ate it without thinking the first time but don't usually have it often. I have had it a couple of times though.

NIPT on the NHS is a new-ish initiative in Wales for high risk women. It's only been in the last year that it's been offered. I don't think it's in place everywhere in the U.K.

I don't think they listen for the heartbeat at 16 weeks here. My friend (in the next health board over) had hers the other week and asked them to listen but they refused because their guidance has changed. Apparently because there's only a 50% chance they'd find it they didn't want to worry her if they couldn't. I've got to wait until next week for mine so will see then.

Baby160P · 21/08/2018 08:37

@Cheery1 I'm a late Feb due on 21st, our 16 week app isn't until 5th September.

Our 20 week scan is 9th October.

DragonFlew · 21/08/2018 08:38

@cheery1 @Jesscaar my 20 week scan isn't until 12th October!!! Soooo long!

Baby160P · 21/08/2018 08:38

I'd be interested how many people hear the heart beat on the 16 week appointment if anyone has one coming up.

DragonFlew · 21/08/2018 08:41

@Baby160P I'm due 25th Feb. So 16 week appt isn't until 11th September. It's rubbish being last to have everything haha!
