I don’t like liver or soft cheese so no avoidance needed! Still eating fish and seafood, I just make sure I trust the source. I’ve had rare steak and dippy eggs, oily fish is actually good for you/baby I thought... it’s just tuna/swordfish/shark you need to limit I thought?
Im not drinking or smoking, but may have a small wine at Xmas.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Had my NIPT scan today, alls looking well 🙌🏼 Sonographer thinks boy, need to wait for blood results to confirm this... it’ll be my third DS.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 20/08/2018 19:48

Oh, and I’ve eaten loads of chorizo! 😂

DragonFlew · 20/08/2018 19:52

I've eaten chorizo too! Didn't know you weren't suppose to?

I eat salmon twice a week and canned tuna.

Its shark, marlin and swordfish that are totally banned. And then 2 portions of oiley fish twice a week (like salmon). Fish like cod are fine to eat as much as you want. Tinned tuna also doesn't count as the 2 portion rule so you're allowed two tuna steak or 4 cans of tuna a week - if you can eat that much!

Shellfish like prawns are also fine as much as you want providing it's cooked through. I wouldn't eat raw prawns anyway!

DragonFlew · 20/08/2018 19:53

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking I've got 2 DS' too. Find out on 12th October what this one is!

Celebelly · 20/08/2018 19:57

Chorizo is fine if it's cooked, same as pepperoni, etc. It's eating it without cooking first that they advise against.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 20/08/2018 19:58

@DragonFlew I’m trying not to count my chickens just yet... but I’m so pleased it’s another boy! 🙌🏼

Since2016 · 20/08/2018 20:03

Just the usual - uncooked cured meat, raw meat, raw shell fish, unpasteurised cheese, liver etc. No caffeine and no booze. Christmas is hard 😫I love cheese. Will have a sneaky prosecco on Christmas Day.

Oh and the other thing to say is - careful of ‘ready washed’ bagged salads. I know someone who caught listeria from some while pregnant. So I now wash again before eating.

Since2016 · 20/08/2018 20:05

Although DH prevented me from eating (minimally) burnt toast this am as it’s bad for the baby.... I honestly think he makes this shit up...

DragonFlew · 20/08/2018 20:05

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking how old are your others? Mine will be just turned 6 & 4 when this one is born (Jan & Feb birthdays!).

AliceRR · 20/08/2018 20:08

@DragonFlew I will check our next mat wear, hadn’t thought to go there!

@Alicejj8x Downs risk is 1 in 18,884 and Edwards / Patau’s is 1 in 100,000

Food wise I am avoiding caffeinated drinks (didn’t drink much anyway so prefer to cut it out) so no Coke etc, trying to keep sweetness to a minimum but haven’t completely cut them out, no cured meats other than pepperoni on pizza, no runny eggs, being a bit more careful with foods that are out on display and reheating etc, don’t eat seafood or soft cheeses or liver anyway, avoiding rare meat (apart from accidental bite of raw burger) and ice cream can ice cream (although had a bite of DH’s once and then panicked).

Lookingforadvice123 · 20/08/2018 20:11

When I say liver I mean pate, I hate actual liver! Love pate though Sad

Chorizo from a supermarket is cooked/cured anyway isn't it? I tend to have it in these two recipes, where you chuck it in near the end and heat it through but I wouldn't say cook it, because it's already essentially cooked. Does that make sense?!

AliceRR · 20/08/2018 20:14

@Lookingforadvice123 I think it is cured so some advise you shouldn’t have cured meats but it’s ok if cooked or frozen beforehand

AliceRR · 20/08/2018 20:38

Anyone else find they feel sick AFTER eating? I used to feel sick and then usually feel better after eating but the last week or so I have felt sick after I’ve eaten especially on an evening

twiglet · 20/08/2018 20:38

I've just been avoiding the mould ripen cheese, cured meats and liver. Well and no alcohol.
I've reduced my caffeine to within the limits and been having runny eggs as long as they are lion stamped as the advice changed on that one.
Also only having mussels from trusted farm areas (joys of living in Scotland and a good fishmonger) and if I've cooked them myself as although you can have them, mussels in general are a higher risk of food poisoning.

Alicejj8x · 20/08/2018 20:40

@Lookingforadvice123
Yes I'm having coke too was abit worried as people
On here said about no caffeine or coke but I've always kept within the recommend allowance and even can work it out online on the caffeine calculator for pregnancy and it works out how much you've had and in always well in the limit

FrowningFlamingo · 20/08/2018 20:44

I'm generally following the nhs guidelines for foods, they don't seem too extreme.
I will have he occasional small glass of wine later on if I fancy it but I don't drink that much anyway and haven't really wanted any so far.
I'm not worrying about caffeine as you have to have a fair amount for it to be harmful from what I've read. And at most I have a cup of tea and a fizzy drink daily but even that is uncommon.
Im washing fruits and veg that I wouldn't usually have bothered with but not much else different really.

Annoyingly I've been underpaid by about 25% this month, seemingly at random. Stress I could really do without.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 20/08/2018 21:03

@DragonFlew my boys are 12 and 10... (will be 12 and 11 on this ones due date) there’s a bit of an age gap this time round! 😂

DragonFlew · 20/08/2018 21:05

@NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking that's good to have 2 little helpers though!

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 20/08/2018 21:07

Yeah, hopefully I’ve got two ready made babysitters in situ! 😂😬

Baby160P · 20/08/2018 21:07

Thank everyone. I'm terrible and if I read something bad I'm like nooo!

Although I have to say I've been trying to diet for years and now it's not for me my will power is amazing with the things we shouldn't have. I wish my will power was like this for me! lol

@Lookingforadvice123 I read this on aspartame and it's just made me weary.

Feb 2019 Babies thread 6. Into the second trimester
Lookingforadvice123 · 20/08/2018 21:22

Where's that from Baby160p? I know aspartame is generally bad anyway Sad but I can't imagine pregnancy with no fizzy drinks, (obviously as well as no alcohol!). How miserable!

Alicerr it's not necessarily after eating for me but I feel sick every evening without fail.

alicejjx yep I couldn't live with no caffeine! A cup of tea is 75mg and a 500ml bottle of coke is the same or less, so if I have two of those in one day it's well within the 200mg limit. I'm not having any "proper" coffee from Starbucks etc though as one cup can have about 200mg! Would rather spread my caffeine out over more than one drink!

AliceRR · 20/08/2018 21:25

One of my friends just told me she’s pregnant on whatsapp! She’s due 2 Feb! I was like me too!! I’ve been secretly hoping one of my friends would also be pregnant so I have a mat leave / baby buddy!

twiglet · 20/08/2018 21:31

@Baby160P and @Lookingforadvice123 there has been a lot of scare mongering in relation to aspartame over the years with one study then counteracting another one.

Best advice is go with the NHS www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/aspartame-facts/ it's only a risk if you have a rare genetic condition. As with anything it's all in moderation and there is not that much in diet drinks/fizzy drinks

DeliberatelyGinger · 20/08/2018 21:40

Too be honest I've always avoided aspartame but it's hard as some non diet drinks include it AND sugar.

DeliberatelyGinger · 20/08/2018 21:41

Did anyone not have the Down's etc screening? My scans on Weds and I'm still on the fence. I'm pretty sure DH is against it.
