@LookingAtTheStars89. So pleased that the scan went well. It’s a lovely picture albeit of a very active baby! Ooh I can’t wait to find out what you are having 🙂 x

bubblybrit · 01/08/2018 16:19

@twiglet. I’ll not be making another journey like that in the near future! Absolutely knackered now so planning to spend the afternoon on the sofa!

Baby160P · 01/08/2018 16:24

I had the genius idea of walking around the zoo today. No sickness for me but extreme tiredness 😴

Notquiteagandt · 01/08/2018 16:31

@jeanzbeanz I think alot of it is money too. Whilst I am eturnally grateful for the fab treatment ive recieved on the NHS. I know their hands are tied and alot of it is down to funding.

In the states people have feeding tubes, fluid drips at home, pumps (like an insulin pump) giving drugs etc. Provisions like this just aren't available in the UK.

Here you need to quite literally be in dire straights after several hospital admissions for them to begin to take you seriously.

I am lucky that my dr had is also. So she totally gets it.

But the 1st dr I saw basicly told me to just get on with it.

Hope these drugs work and get you feeling better soon Flowers

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 16:34

@jeanzbeanz was it promethazine? I have a packet in my draw... feel awful today, so tempted to take on tonight. However, 13 weeks now and wondering whether I'll magically feel better soon. Main issue is struggling to drink anything. I've had milk on my cereal this morning (mistake - all came back up), one minute sip of water a couple of hours ago and about three sips of very dilute elderflower cordial (which made me feel sick.) I do feel for you. It's just grim!

jeanzbeanz · 01/08/2018 16:43

@Picklesandpies it's prochlorperazine that I have been prescribed.

If you have been prescribed something, take it!! No need to suffer without at least seeing whether drugs can help you. Grim is a good description for how it feels!

I can't find any specific trigger for my sickness, there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for what my stomach decides to keep down. Sometimes I'll be feeling OK and then suddenly need to vomit with basically no warning. It makes me so nervous to leave the house as I have no idea when it might hit!

welshweasel · 01/08/2018 16:45

Yay, new thread!! I had a call from the midwife today saying the consultant had reviewed my notes and they want me to come in next week for a thrombophilia screen (I had a rubbish placenta last time so had my son early and he was small) then have to see community midwife at 16 weeks, then see consultant at 17 weeks for uterine artery dopplers and a scan, then have my anomaly scan booked for 19 weeks exactly! So looks like I will be busy. I’m pleased I’m being seen soon though, the midwife said I wouldn’t see a consultant until 28 weeks so this is much more reassuring.

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 16:55

@jeanzbeanz oh ok, I haven't heard of that one. I know I should just take what I've been given but the doctor put the fear of God into me before issuing the prescription ('only to be taken if REALLY bad'). I believe mine is an antihistamine. Pharmacist said he felt it was safe for pregnancy but doctor laboured the point about how it can't be tested on pregnant women and they can't say it's absolutely safe.

To be honest I'm not getting any vitamins as can't stomach anything 'wet' like fruit and veg (other than occasional banana) so maybe it's best to take meds and eat better if possible.

I hope your meds work for you. Like you, it's the unpredictability that I find difficult!

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 16:56

That's good news @welshweasel

jeanzbeanz · 01/08/2018 17:02

@Picklesandpies it's really not fair when they say "take it if you REALLY have to" as it means you feel like you have to choose between feeling really ill or potentially harming your baby!!

I can't comment about the one you have been prescribed, but my Dr has assured me that both cyclizine and prochlorperazine are absolutely safe. They wouldn't prescribe it otherwise! My sister has also taken both when pregnant and has a healthy toddler now.

It is hard knowing that your diet isn't very healthy. I keep telling myself that as long as I'm eating that's the main thing. I have had some smoothie today and it's stayed down so far, so hopefully that will give me (and baby!) some vitamins!!

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 17:07

@jeanzbeanz that's reassuring about your doctors words and your sisters experience - thanks. I feel a bit like 'I've got this far, surely I can last the next week or so until I feel better' but then again there are no guarantees as to when that will be.

May I ask what smoothie you had? I am just trying some Ribena (wrote a post to ask for recommendations of other drinks to try earlier today and bought a load of new things!) Ribena hardly choc full of vitamins though... Confused

jeanzbeanz · 01/08/2018 17:08

@Notquiteagandt Interesting to hear about what is available in the US. For the lucky few who can afford it anyway!!

My sister says that she thinks the Duchess of Cambridge having HG helped to raise the profile of it. She (my sister) was pregnant at a similar time to when Kate was pregnant with George, and was being sick 10+ times a day. She wasn't given any medication or anything. But when she had her second pregnancy more recently, she was prescribed the two drugs I've had to help with the morning sickness even though she wasn't as badly sick as the first time. So she feels that the provision has improved. Of course, she might have just been unlucky with the Dr the first time and luckier the second time!

I'm hoping that I'll feel better around 16 weeks like she did 🤞🏻

Being able to moan to people who understand is amazing 😊 my husband is wonderful and feels so so sorry for me, but I don't feel like he "gets" it. Thanks ladies!!

jeanzbeanz · 01/08/2018 17:10

@Picklesandpies it was the original yellowish Innocent smoothie - think it's mango and passion fruit or something like that? I just had half a glass at a time, with loads of ice. Good luck finding something that works for you!!

Picklesandpies · 01/08/2018 17:14

@jeanzbeanz - thanks!

purplechandelier · 01/08/2018 17:20

@jeanzbeanz I got prescribed prochlorperazine early last week and it definitely helped! I was being sick about 20 times a day and it brought that number significantly down (although didn't completely alleviate it). I have ordered a repeat prescription for it even though I am feeling a lot better, just in case!

Notquiteagandt · 01/08/2018 17:23

@jeanzbeanz yeah every dr I have seen said that 16 weeks is the point your hormones level out. So alot of people see a vast improvement then. They have booked my next consultant appointment then on that premis. So 🤞 things are looking better for us all at 16w hey.

Yeah everyone ive spoke to is like "oh like kate middleton"

Whilst I feel shes helped people to hear about it. The fact shes got best medica care in world on tap, privaite hair dressers and make up artists on tap. So still looks wonderful hasnt helped.

Mean while theres me with matted hair. The thickest tena lady on. And tissue shoved up my nose to stop the nose bleeds from vommiting hahaha. Not quite as glamourus!!

@Picklesandpies the benefits vastly out weigh the risks. My dr had HG herself and she said she wouldnt perscribe me anything she wouldnt or hadnt taken herself. Malutrision is dangerous for the mother. So that outweighs any risks.

Breaks my heart as I always wanted a big family. But this has traumised me. So this will defiantly be my one and only child. So I am wanting to do the very very best by them.

jeanzbeanz · 01/08/2018 17:24

@purplechandelier ooh that's good to know. Glad it worked for you and hope it does for me too!

@Picklesandpies I'm also obsessed with heinz chicken soup at the moment - it seems to go down easily, isn't painful in reverse, and with being a liquid hopefully it's helping keep me hydrated a bit? Might be worth seeing if there's any soup you can stomach too 😊

MrsY87 · 01/08/2018 17:27

Thanks for the new thread!

We did NCT for our 1st but only made on class as DD arrived early! Still I made some friends through it and we hung out on mat leave but haven't stayed in touch particularly since we went back to work & we moved area. For DS I did a local refresher and hypnobirthing course & met some friends through those who have become firm friends and I can see us being friends for a long time to come. I'll probably do something again this time as I find it nice to have a group with babies a similar age, if you don't all gel hopefully you'll meet someone do!

@Picklesandpies NCT do a refresher for 2nd + time mums is there one of those near you? They tend to only be 3 or 4 2hr sessions I think so better than 19hrs over 6 sessions!

Leonora94 · 01/08/2018 17:58

Just place marking 😊 had the most intense day at work today...feel asleep on the bus home!

UndercoverLauren · 01/08/2018 18:09

I've noticed so far the midwives and doctors don't seem that fussed about how I'm coping with pregnancy (aside from checking I'm not depressed), they seem more interested in assessing risk. It seems you have to make an effort to get help with symptoms.
I know they have limited resources, so can't really blame them.

somethingfromnothing · 01/08/2018 18:48

Just place marking. 1 week to go until my scan, feels like forever away. I had hyperemesis in my first pregnancy and it was awful. I’ve not been as bad this pregnancy, I’ve coped with the help of the cyclizine.

Koalatom1 · 01/08/2018 19:01

I did lazy daisy with #2 and will with this one. Met mums and enjoyed the course.

Should book it soon!

Yakadee · 01/08/2018 19:06

Hi ladies! Thread 5 already! Hope everyone is OK today xxx

Lookingforadvice123 · 01/08/2018 19:20

All good at my scan Smile measuring 10+3 which is 2 days ahead consistently so I've mentally moved my due date to 24th of February, see what the dating scan says!

Baby was moving its legs and arms, heard the heartbeat and saw blood pulsing through the cord, pretty cool.
