@MissKatyKat welcome on board. You're my due date twin. Have you found out baby's gender or chosen not to? Smile

Belles86 · 24/08/2018 09:38

Hey new ladies, hope you're all good! Time is flying by isn't it? :-0

I'm due 4th oct, from manchester, having a girl and feeling LARGE.

DogMumOfOne · 24/08/2018 11:43

This was probably discussed ages ago but what changing bag have people bought/decided on?
I ordered the Babymel Robyn Convertible Packpack from Amazon but have sent it back, straps were uncomfortable even without tonnes of baby stuff in it!
So I am back to square one. I have looked at pretty much all thats out there on Mothercare, in TK Maxx and on Amazon.
My pram is the Joie Chrome DLX (khaki hood and seat) with black wheels and frame. Joie don't do matching bags so I'm open to anything!

MissKatyKat · 24/08/2018 13:07

Aww that's so exciting @Filzma I'm having a little girl. Do you know what you're having? I wonder how close we'll actually be in having them.

TinyTerror1 · 24/08/2018 14:21

@DogMumofOne my OH said the straps looked uncomfortable on the Babymel one. He used to sell walking rucksacks so I guess he knows what he's talking about! I'm tempted to use an existing rucksack with separate folding changing mat although the lack of pockets could be an issue.

I went and looked at loads of changing bags in John Lewis and this one appealed if you want a rucksack style: www.johnlewis.com/skip-hop-forma-changing-backpack/p3316956 although it's not the cheapest. Alternatively I didn't see this one in store but I liked the Bababing! bags I did see and the straps look like they have at least some padding: www.johnlewis.com/bababing-mani-changing-backpack-black/p3441508

twobambinos · 24/08/2018 15:11

Tk maxx often have changing bags in. Saw some skiphop ones the other day. I haven't actually bought a bag yet. I had for my two dds but this time I'll be travelling alot lighter. The bare essentials. We usually have the car any where we go so can keep a spare set of things in there.

unicornchaser · 24/08/2018 15:12

I've gone for this one. Arrives tomorrow but a bit dubious having not been able to see it in rl! If it's naff, I like the look of the bababing one so might try and track that one down!

I have a Knuddlestuff backpack changing bag, I liked it last time and will use it again this time. There's one on Amazon similar to what I have.

Has anyone else started nesting? I've been cleaning all day, only the BH have stopped me.

DogMumOfOne · 24/08/2018 17:33

Thank you those are great suggestions. Main requirement is a bag which is suitable for hubby to use as well as me. I am now open to over the shoulder bags too, but widening my search is not helping me narrow it down lol! I don't mind spending up to £60 as its a bag I'll be using every day and I don't want to be replacing it in 6-9 months.
Just want to make a decision so I can pack it with all of baby's things for the hospital :) Anyone else want to share what they have bought/are looking at?

Filzma · 24/08/2018 18:25

Haha @MissKatyKat, that will be interesting to see. I'm also having a girl! Smile

midnight1983 · 25/08/2018 04:00

I'm just sad there's no Boots free changing bag anymore! I used the one I got last time for three years!

unicornchaser · 25/08/2018 08:48

Oh @nervousFTM just reading that thread you posted. Too bloody funny. Ending myself entirely at this peach

  • I've just realised when I said 'recovery position' I actually meant crash position.

I want to clarify that as a matter of course I do not lie on my side to take a shit.*

@Filzma oh that's so exciting! Have you thought of any names for her yet?

nervousFTM · 25/08/2018 10:37

@unicornchaser I know right!? I literally couldn't breathe reading the thread but that was the corker!! Had both hubby and I in bits 😂

unicornchaser · 25/08/2018 12:10

Has anyone had any experience of using baby carriers? Are Ergo carriers really worth the extra cost? What makes them better than some of the cheaper ones that look exactly the same?
Looking for a carrier that OH can use when we go hiking with baby as he won't faff about with a sling...... I will use the sling for the early days/weeks but most likely to not do an awful lot of hiking till March time so baby will be getting a bit heavy for me to carry for any length of time then!

OP posts:
Belles86 · 25/08/2018 13:51

@unicornchaser I can’t speak for ergobaby just yet, but we picked one up second hand (fb marketplace) for £50 that we hope will suit us as have heard great things and fancy getting out and about as soon as we are able to 🤞

Havetothink · 25/08/2018 15:45

We've just got an ergo baby carrier, it looks nice quality and easy to adjust but I can't properly comment till we're using it. I will say that last time we got a cheap one and it just wasn't up to the job and I hated trying to use it, hence spending a bit more this time.

Filzma · 25/08/2018 20:20

Obviously I can google this but what's the earliest you can have the baby in a sling or carrier?

@MissKatyKat still have a number of names but waiting to see if she suits any of them. Hope we can agree. Last time we couldn't and went for a double barrelled name. Smh.

Havetothink · 25/08/2018 20:50

Depends on the carrier but you can use from newborn, just check the it says suitable for newborn and look at the weights, some start at lower weights than others. Some also require a newborn insert but not all.

Filzma · 25/08/2018 22:07

Thanks @Havetothink. Makes sense.

unicornchaser · 25/08/2018 23:20

@filzma you can use slings from newborn and they curl up in them, some carriers are advertised as from newborn but I think it puts too much pressure on their pelvis taking their body weight. I wouldn't use an actual carrier until they are older personally but some do say on them from newborn so it's a personal preference I think.

Filzma · 26/08/2018 06:03

Aaah thanks @unicornchaser, I couldn't visualise what happens to legs in a sling but just watched it. Glad I have one this time. I wasn't really comfortable with the carrier last time (in the first few months).
Thanks 🙏

unicornchaser · 26/08/2018 11:00

Yeah I'm going to get a carrier for 6-9 months once he is a bit heavier for me to carry any length of time and OH can carry him on hikes etc. But getting a couple of ring slings to use till then. Even just to potter around the house so I can still do stuff if baby refuses to sleep without being on to me Smile
