Oh I got outed yesterday! My little sister (I'm one of 5 and we all live near each other) gets the same train line as me (but usually much later!!) and saw me with the badge (from across the carriage) so both sisters and 1 SIL know now, but no other siblings on either side. There is a LOT of family to tell... I also now definitely look pregnant so will have to come clean after the scan!

Since2016 · 27/07/2018 13:21

Musing while DD naps.

Does anyone else not really feel 'ready' to share the news? Is it just me? Is it nerves?

Celebelly · 27/07/2018 13:24

We dithered over FB but in the end it was just the most practical way to let people who we wouldn't necessarily tell individually know. DP has a huge extended family (more than 15 cousins).

I've also got a big event in Sept that lots of FB friends are going to, and it's easier this way than having to have the same conversation multiples times over the weekend (or have people wondering if I'm just fat!).

DragonFlew · 27/07/2018 13:26

@Since2016 I think then it becomes 'real'. Me and DH have discussed telling close friends but I said, once we tell someone we can't take it back, so I'd rather wait.
I'm so superstitious, I wouldn't want to jinx anything! I think that's why I've waited so long to make my booking appt. I don't think I can still believe this is real!

Since2016 · 27/07/2018 13:33

@DragonFlew exactly!!! I think because it's taken a long time and meds etc to get here and all the issues so far I'm so paranoid.
I'd rather wait as long as poss but I know I can't. With DD I was desperate to tell people!

Cheery1 · 27/07/2018 13:37

Ah thanks @Fredthespider!

Yakadee · 27/07/2018 13:39

@Fredthespider - Mine's the 18th top - we got to pick and it's my hubby's birthday! Technicall I don't think I have to buy him anything now?

@maxiflump1 and @Cheery1 - lovely scan pics!

X

Cheery1 · 27/07/2018 13:42

Thanks @Yakadee!

FrowningFlamingo · 27/07/2018 13:44

Yes I think part of my reluctance to do a fb announcement is because I'm not feeling quite ready yet!

I thought I was ok with smells but someone at work has just microwaved fish Envy (not envy)... why oh why would you do that on a day like today where it's so hot. Ugh.

sagasleathertrousers · 27/07/2018 13:45

There always one person on every office that thinks it's ok to microwave fish.

Lookingforadvice123 · 27/07/2018 13:51

I am so ready to share! Both sets of parents know, as does my sister and her boyfriend, plus four close friends and a friend in work who's pregnant at the same stage. And my boss knows! So quite a few people, I'm someone who hates the secrecy.

Help me decide something ladies, to have another private scan or not? I'm not particularly anxious or anything (had a scan at 7 and 8 weeks, all was good) but it still feels like ages until my 12 week which isn't until the 14th. It'll be 4 weeks since my last scan if I wait til then. It's so tempting to have one next week as it's only £40...

Alicejj8x · 27/07/2018 13:56

I too feel abit of a fraud I'm 10w2d and recently have been feeling just fine. Occasional nausea / gagging moments but other than that ok! Hoping it's where the placenta is taking over.
Had scan last week everything was fine so praying Monday when we have the next one it'll be just fine before we have our 12 week scan in a few weeks time.

Getting a few period like pain feelings going on and with you ladies on the opposite end to constipation! 🤦🏻‍♀️💩 ahaha!

Yay for the ladies who had there scans today looking lovely :)

I will prob announce on FB as I think it'll be the easiest way but I completely understand why people choose not too :) x

Alicejj8x · 27/07/2018 13:57

@Lookingforadvice123
I know how you feel

We've had 4 early scans with the nhs as I'm under fertility clinic but after 9 weeks they don't scan anymore
So my last scan was last Wednesday and I was 9 weeks and everything was ok but OH has suggested we have a private scan Monday to just check and see if baby is still doing ok rather than waiting till the 12 week scan.

I don't think for £40 there's no harm in booking one when usually there a lot more ££ :)

Lookingforadvice123 · 27/07/2018 14:10

Alicej we've paid for all of mine, the first was £75 (was at a different clinic as the £40 one only do from 8 weeks and that one was at 7 weeks) and then £40, so quite a lot spent already. We can afford it, but we're also hardly rolling in it, especially as we are having more work done on our house before the end of the year (plastering and decorating).

BUT, £40 isn't much at all! The plan is to have a private gender scan at 16 weeks, as that breaks up the 12-20 weeks wait nicely (plus we really want to know the sex early!) and then maybe one at about 28-30 weeks (just because I strongly believe you 20 weeks is far too long to wait, and the UK has the highest still birth rate in Europe, and is the only country which doesn't have a further scan after 20 weeks). So not many more, it just feels a bit silly have 3 before 12 weeks. I wouldn't have had the one at 8 weeks but I was worried that my symptoms had reduced (obviously they returned the day I had the scan and have been horrendous ever since!).

craftymum01 · 27/07/2018 14:27

I don't think there is anything wrong with getting extra scans. We get scanned every four weeks but I know if we didn't I would certainly be getting a 16 week scan because of what happened to us in our last pregnancy.
£40 is really reasonable as well.

maxiflump1 · 27/07/2018 14:28

@Cheery1 great news on you scan. I'm 37 so not exactly young! How old are you if you don't mind me asking?!

OP posts:
Cheery1 · 27/07/2018 14:34

Thanks @maxiflump! I’m the grand age of 39 (not sure how that happened), just aware that all the risks go up a bit.

Lookingforadvice123 · 27/07/2018 14:36

craftymum they usually charge £50 but they must've recognised my name from when I was pregnant with DS as they give me a regular customer discount 😂 surprised they haven't gone one step further and given me a loyalty card!

Alicejj8x · 27/07/2018 14:37

@Lookingforadvice123

I don't blame you hun if they don't offer you any early scans which they don't usually do they I would pay too! I only got my 4 early scans on nhs coz I'm under fertility clinic but now 9 weeks has passed if I want any Earlier ones I have to pay which if there cheap I honestly don't mind doing for that piece of mind.

£40 is so so good isn't it. Yeah I get what you mean and that's always the way you have a scan and the symptoms come back the day after or right after the scan lol but it doesn't matter aslong as you've got that piece of mind :)

Yeah I agree it's soo bad that there is no more scans offered on the nhs after 20 weeks! Like you say with the rates of stillbirth being so high! Wouldn't harm for them to scan again say 30ish weeks!

Yes I am with you on the gender scan and want that 4D scan tooo around 28 weeks :)

Ahh bless you but just think you've got to see bub a lot more than you would of :) xx

Since2016 · 27/07/2018 15:16

I don't blame anyone re early scans and agree actually that I do think they should do a growth scan as standard after 20 weeks. I'm having extra scans anyway, including a growth scan at 32 weeks but I'd pay for it if I wasn't.

I'm having trouble with the fact that my last scan was a week ago and my 12w scan isn't for another week! Haha!

Since2016 · 27/07/2018 15:19

Ps. Always worth asking the midwife re extra scan. I was referred as I was anxious about size (baby was measuring for forecast of 8 pounds at 32 weeks and I was concerned as we have a history of big babies - needn't have worried as she was a 9, 11 monster) but MW requested one no issue. And she was a scary Jamaican!

Yakadee · 27/07/2018 15:42

My first was 9lb2 and we had no idea as I was measuring on track! He was a bit of a shock lol x

DragonFlew · 27/07/2018 15:46

Haha I was petrified because my mum has 5 kids all over 9lbs! With looong labours.
DS1 was 5lb 4oz labour over in 2hrs 40mins.
DS2 was 7lb 6oz labour over in 2hrs 2mins!

Camsie30 · 27/07/2018 16:02

Had my booking appt this morning, loveliest midwife. At my hospital you see the same one all the way through so I'm relieved. Feeling gigantic today and like a sweaty whale. Even my eyelids are sweating!!!

Since2016 · 27/07/2018 16:03

Post op the paediatrician said it was barbaric they'd tried to let me go naturally!
