Hello all and welcome to this month's thread!!
Let's all stop feeling sick and start expanding now

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Loucee · 02/07/2007 15:47

MotherofZ, yes I'd like to use DD's cot for this baby too. I'll have a wee while when #2 arrives as they will be in a moses basket for a while.
The MW gave me details of classes in my immediate area but I'll be looking for a class in Glasgow as will be closer to work.

Neuro - I agree with Skidaddle that if it's possible to wait until your baby is here to decide your working/studying load. I felt I would be ready to go back after 6mths but in the end I didn't feel a year was long enough!

Loucee · 02/07/2007 15:56

Skidaddle - I have similar thoughts of not wanting DD to feel like new baby has taken her bed (haven't stopped DD's pre bed bfeed yet so also worried she'll think new baby has taken those too!). We are planning on getting her new bed from Ikea and setting up her new room in a couple of months so she can get used to it and help to move her things there. We decided to move DD into the spare room as her current room is set up for a baby and is right next to ours.

skidaddle : i hope that means that us due in december lot have the best abs of any thread!

PBirdy · 02/07/2007 16:53

Hello all - sorry to crash the party a bit late in the day! I am actually on the New Year thread and now my due date has changed to 28 December so I thought I might join this one too! Hope that's not too cheeky. It is fun being the most advanced person on the thread but also a bit daunting.

I actually felt a bit guilty to my other thread, but then looked down the list and saw some familiar faces (err, names) Hello Housemum, Awen, Bettymama - busted!

well done on your results Awen - are you still thinking of having the 4D scan at Warrington?

We're also wondering about moving ds into the other spare room. His room at present is a little box room next to ours (we only have 2 average sized rooms then this box room) and I'd kind of like him to get used to it in plenty of time before the new baby makes its appearance. But...same as skidaddle i'm anticipating him wandering about upstairs when he's suddenly free to escape.

Are we supposed to be sucking in our tummies now then? Or is that for once the babies have arrived? I bought a dvd for when after ds was born and it's still in its cellophane wrapper . Gonna have to make much more of an effort this time.

I got all my maternity clothes down from the attic at the weekend - couldn't believe how much stuff i had tbh, plus i've bought more recently which i've hidden away from dh for the time being. it was very strange washing and ironing my maternity clothes from ds - it was a very stressful time for me because i was looking after a terminally ill family member at the time and also me and dh hit a really rocky patch with me nearly throwing him out. It almost feels like all those tears are kind of "sweated" into the clothing, if that makes any sense

skidaddle · 02/07/2007 17:12

peanutbutter - I know what you mean about old maternity clothes - I didn't go through anything awful like you but they still bring loads of memories flooding back - mostly me being a right stroppy cow to poor old dp

Loucee - Isn't it strange to think another baby will be coming in and taking over all your dd's things - it will be such a huge adjustment for them - and I can imagine it being even more of a wrench when you're still bfing. Poor little things ...

Housemum · 02/07/2007 18:22

Hello PBirdy - at first my date was somewhere between 28 Dec to 3 Jan, so I joined both threads and now decided I like them both!!

Am hoping this will be a December baby though - DD2 was 2 weeks early, same would be nice as I'd hate to spend Xmas day wondering if it was going to be The Day (and I'm sure DH would rather enjoy a drink or two on Xmas Day too!)

dazedorconfused · 02/07/2007 20:17

I'm no medical expert, but on the whole test front my mw explained nuchal tests and bloods are done for downs/edwards & patau, and then bloods done later c.14 weeks for spina bifida, known as triple or quadruple test depending on your health authority.

As a new comer, how do you scroll up and down the thread without getting thumb strain? Was trying to find transversus exercise detais (so in need) but didn't get to it and then struggled to get back to top. Novice I know!

Thanks for vest help - tummy sticking out cute for three year old, not so cute on slack transversus 33yr old!!

Loucee · 02/07/2007 20:37

DoC - I've copied what Suey2 wrote about the transverus exercises.

Quote Suey 2
"Transversus. Ok girls suck it in! Easiest way to know if you are doing the right thing is if you are on all fours, with a nice flat back, and suck your belly in without moving anything else or holding your breath. Get that right, then look at yourself sideways on in a mirror. Make sure that you are not shoving your hips forwards and overarching your low back: when your arms are straight they should fall through the line of your hips, not behind. then drawn in your LO, again without moving anything else and you should be able to hold this contraction whilst breathing. I can bring mine in about an inch. It should not be difficult/ hard work physically, just tricky to coordinate initially.
Once you ahve got the hang of it, try and do it, like, constantly. It should be working all the time you are not lying down. Try and draw it in and 'leave it there', if you know what i mean."

kerioke · 02/07/2007 21:04

hi all! wow looks like i missed quite a chatty weekend!

Hope everyone is well... only two days til i see mw again and finally get to hear the heartbeat! after seeing it wriggle and now starting to feel 'light turning movements' i want to complete the package and hear it!

had my first physio app this morning for my spd... was quite difficult.. she has ordered me a hip brace (so pride and dignity now well and trully gone!!) hey ho tis all worth it!

weather is still pants down here... cant believe its june!

dazedorconfused · 02/07/2007 22:25

Is anyone (2nd+ timers)thinking of doing ante natal classes again? Or even better heard of any 'refresher' (as if we could forget) courses.

I never joined NCT with DD as they could only offer classes after due date but as in new area would be nice to have new mum pals.

I know from friends who have had children after me, you're never as interested in feed sizes or weaning schedules etc when you've passed on from that point yourself. But when you're at that point having someone else 'in the zone' is so useful - which is why you guys are such a find!

Housemum · 02/07/2007 22:59

Please be kind to the NCT - the teachers have a pretty hard job, a lot of them have young families too (well, the ones in our area do) so it's hard to cater for the amount of demand there is. The amount of training they go through to teach the classes is phenomenal - it's 3 or 4 years of essays, study days and tutorials.

You could try asking if they do a refresher course in your area? Not all areas do - we don't, because the teachers have such a waiting list of first-timers that there's no way they could meet all the demand.

Does your local hospital do anything? Ours runs AN courses for first-timers, but they are pretty basic and I couldn't sit through all that again, but they have a Saturday afternoon informal session where you have a brief chat with a midwife, get the opportunity to ask questions, and get shown round the hospital as a reminder.

I did a second antenatal class with number 2, but that was because I had a 10 year age gap, and also had had an emergency section/premature baby first time round so knew sweet FA about labour.

dazedorconfused · 02/07/2007 23:03

Definitely didn't mean to be mean to NCT! am hoping they may provide the answer as hospital doesn't really cater beyond first timers.

Definitely couldn't sit through that again - would be forced to laugh at the rose tinting!

MotherofZ · 03/07/2007 08:13

Dazedandconfused - In our area we have 4 sessions of antenatal classes that we can go to and they cover = labour and birth - 2 classes, breastfeed vrs bottlefeeding, looking after a new born. As I already have an 18 mth dd and had such difficulty breastfeeding her first time (got mastitis 3 times!) I think I am just going to attend just the BF one.

Caz10 · 03/07/2007 09:52

Morning ladies

Would anyone mind if started a new thread? As someone said at the weekend, this one is now taking a lonnnng time to load.

Hope everyone is well will go and do this now....

kerioke · 03/07/2007 09:55

its odd how different every area is isnt it??!!

where i live (cornwall) the midwives run the antenatal classes and various other classes to help prepare and answer questions... i went to antenatal classes again with number 2 as i also had an emergency section with my 1st, which left me panicking about number 2 labour.. and guess what i'm going back again this time as this is my partners first labour and he feels he could do with the help!

when i went to these classes the second time around i was the only mum on her second stint, but they still made me just as welcome! try having a chat to your mw and see what she suggests. often they are more flexible than we realise.

Caz10 · 03/07/2007 09:56

Done!

And no-one has even mentioned antenatal classes to me, I suppose I should be asking..!

becklespeckle · 03/07/2007 09:58

Well done Caz - new thread here
