Hello all and welcome to this month's thread!!
Let's all stop feeling sick and start expanding now

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
skidaddle · 28/06/2007 15:51

ooh does that mean it's a girl then pecka?

suey2 · 28/06/2007 16:26

no worries loucie- i see loads of women before their baby so i am up to date with that but none immediately after- wouldn't want to give you dodgy advice. (have already read a couple of things today which have made my toes curl!)

Loucee · 28/06/2007 16:32

46% boy, 54% girl for me!

Pecka - hearing the HB is so comforting isn't it. Do you mind me asking how much it is to hire a doppler? Like I said in my previous post I am really interested in getting one but the purchase price was just too steep (we have to pay £200 for the private 20wk scan so its all adding up).

Caz10 · 28/06/2007 16:38

Phew I got to hear the heartbeat today! Still some confusion over my dates (well they are confused I am sticking to what I think I know ha ha!) but EDD is the same so I guess that's the main thing.

What a relief though! She did say please don't worry if I can't hear it, but thankfully LO must've been near the front or something as she picked it up straight away.

She also said that this 14-18 weeksish stage that most of us are in is horrible - early symptoms wear off, no massive bump yet, and a few weeks till we can feel them move. So she didn't think I was a nutter for being so relieved when I heard the heartbeat!

But hopefully bumps will start to get more active soon - we should have a prize for whoever feels the 1st kick ha ha!

PS this is soooo late in saying but thelady your hotel looks great!

becklespeckle · 28/06/2007 17:06

Might sound daft but why can't you wear underwires in pg? I didn't with my DSs but this time have bought an underwire in a size larger than usual and although getting a little small now it is comfy and fits well. Is is just important later in pg? I will prob go into maternity bras soon but would like to keep the nice underwire ones for the summer!

Caz10 · 28/06/2007 17:11

My MW said that after 16 weeks or so your milk ducts start to develop and the underwire can cut in and damage them, you can even end up with mastitis! However I have not gone up a bra size at all and will certainly been wearing one now and again when the outfit requires it! I'm sure it's just continuous wear and/or bad fitting that would cause any problems...although that is just my (very uninformed!) opinion!

littleoldme · 28/06/2007 17:58

Re the whole bra thing - and this is real bug bear of mine so forgive me if I rant.

If you wear an underwire that fits properly it's fine. I believe that's what the royal College of Midwifes now say. and if they don't Miriam Stoppard does and who are we to argue.

If an underwire fits properly it should sit against your ribs and the mibble section of teh wire should rest against the bit between your boobs with no gap.

When buying them when pg make sure they fut comfortable on the tightest fitting to allow room for growth.

I'm 18 weeks now and have gone from a 32 f to a 36g !!

My mum was a breast care nurse and I've always been quite well endowed so I have a bit of a thing about bras.

INHO M&S bras aren't much good Debenhams do a good fitting service. Also for those of us with big ones I can highly recommend Bravissimo.

suey2 · 28/06/2007 18:09

I totally agree littleoldme. That was the info i was given- the wire should not dig into the breast at all, that is when it can block the milk duct and cause problems. (i started at 32f too so I can empathise with your correct-fit obsession) Rigby and peller are horribly expensive which is why i bought one from them, then 'matched the fit' with john lewis. (R&P £60 JL £20)I did order a couple from bravissimo (who i used loads pre-preg) but this time the fit was way off and i had to send them back.

suey2 · 28/06/2007 18:23

oo- there are a couple of bravissimo shops- they are an excellent company, for sure- that will guarantee the fit

Loucee - the prices on eBay don't look too bad to buy an Angel Sounds one - I don't know if they work or not, perhaps it's something to Google? Dopplers

littleoldme · 28/06/2007 18:36

Hello Loopy - we get about don't we!

Suey2 - there's a shop where I live and It's fab. Bit airy changing rooms, fitting service and dressing gowns and t shirts in cubicles. Bra heaven !

Housemum · 28/06/2007 18:37

Did the quiz - 50:50!! So no wiser than before...

suey2 · 28/06/2007 18:40

i was 52/47 which is a little alarming!

Loucee · 28/06/2007 19:49

Housemum - thanks for the link. I had heard before that those Angel type of dopplers aren't that great and that the MAS ones are much better (but are £80). If anyone has used the Angel one or similar I'd love to hear!

Hi to the new ladies joining,

Louise76 · 28/06/2007 20:57

Hi, I just wanted to add some advice re bras. I am a stickler for making sure I am wearing the right size bra and I read that underwired bras are fine as long as they fit you properly - ie the wires are not digging in to your skin. I'm a 30E and dread to think what bizarre size I might end up by the end of my pregnancy! I highly recommend Bravissimo (website and they have some shops)and I plan to continue wearing underwired bras - I couldn't leave the house in a saggy soft cup bra!

mad4girls · 28/06/2007 21:17

ooh how exciting ppl hearing lo's heart beat

caz 10- i felt lo kick about 3 wks ago

can i have my prize please

suey-dont worry too much about not hearing lo's hb i went to mw last week (16wks)and my mw couldnt find a hb either

she said not to worry as it could be my fibroid in way or placenta (think she was trying to make me feel better about having layers of lard hiding the lo )

as for finding out sex were hoping to find out at 20 wk scan on 19th july and as for being supersticous i obviously cant be as have been buying things left right and centre, already bought pram and all sorts bought my highchair yesterday how mad am i bet you all think im a loony now

its just me i get really anxious when pregnant about having everything ready and that so i start early (i cant help it those baby things are too cute)

macdoodle · 28/06/2007 21:28

Was in Ikea baby section with friend recently she kept showing me things including these little box things to clip on changer/cot etc......and I had real full blown panic attack red clammy heart racing.....
Note to self - get a grip this baby is real will be here in less than 6 months get used to that fact !

MamaMaiasaura · 28/06/2007 21:39

I have stayed in underwired bra still although I think I might need a bigger one soon. I am already 34G so dont really want non wired as need the support. I plan to breastfeed so I know after birth will be waering delightful nursing bra which offer me not much support tho. Will try and get a sleep bra tomorrow tho.

No ms for 2 days, had headaches instead but not too bad.

MamaMaiasaura · 28/06/2007 21:43

78% a girl from that test.. will see at 20 week sscan

PeckaRolloverAgain · 28/06/2007 22:48

Loucee - I have paid £25 for a months hire.

I figure that after that month bean will be moving a lot more adn it will nearly be time for my 20 week scan.

MotherofZ · 29/06/2007 08:14

My bra size is still the same, has anyone else stayed the same? The only thing bigger are my stomach and thights...!

Housemum · 29/06/2007 09:06

Mad4Girls - I don't think you are a loony - we've bought a pram (though it's because I wanted a second-hand old-fashioned Silver Cross and I was checking eBay every day until one came up within travelling distance at the right price!)

Now we've had the first scan, I might treat myself to a little white outfit for it - they had some really cute ones in Mamas and Papas - and they are cosy enough for a winter baby.

Told DD2 last night (DD1 already knew as she's 14 and she would have guessed something was up, but thought we'd wait until the scan before telling the 4 year old). She has been absolutely wonderful - she even asked if she could give the baby her Giggy which is her favourite blankie-bear toy. We told her we'd get it its own Giggy, but it would be lovely if she had some toys she'd outgrown for the baby. She sang a silly song to my tummy "so the baby will dance in your tummy"!

suey2 · 29/06/2007 09:43

hey loucee, have checked my facts re abdo stuff post partum. For the first 4-6 weeks, you should avoid doing transversus work on all fours (although, as i said before, it is the perfect position just now). All other positions you should practice transversus contractions, preferably with pelvic floor to begin with. Starting on your back with feet on the floor and knees bent is good to get the technique: don't use gluts or quads. If you do the all 4s stuff now, it will be a synch. Traditional sit-ups and curls are a total no-no until transversus is stronger. Oh, and vitally, you must be able to keep breathing when contracting transversus: cheating with the diaphragm is not an option. This advice is good even if you have diastasis recti: although when you start adding other things there are extra precautions if you do. (eg no twisting abdo work or anything that makes the abdomen dome) Hope this helps

suey2 · 29/06/2007 09:50

oh- and to everyone- you shouldn't be doing any exercises lying on your back after the 4th month
